It was a nice follow up to see Marsha get the keys to the house and car on location. I'll be looking forward to next years green home giveaway...

Awesome to see HGTV doing this and congrats to Marsha on her new home. Hopefully HGTV begins influencing us all more to live a greener lifestyle.

Don't know what we used to watch on TV before HGTV came on the air, but I do miss alot of the old shows.Decorating Cents has all but disapeared, loved Cash in the Attic, also miss The Kovel's and the guy who visited your home and looked at your antiques.Don't like the new group from Atlanta on Designed to Sell (too staged). Love that you have Vern and Carter!!!!

Enjoyed watching Marsha get the keys to her new Green Home.
Was extremely happy to hear Jack acknowledge that there is going to be another Green Home in 2009.
Would love it even more if Someone, Anyone at HGTV would have the heart to at least start giving us some hints/clues about where the Green Home 2009 will be built. Thank you, velvet350

I'm glad she's happy with her new home, although I would have rather seen some one win who had never experienced the east coast. When/where will the new green home be built? Colorado would nice. Green features are almost a necessity where people use large quantities of energy to heat a house.

Hooray for Marsha. I loved seeing how emotional she got.
On another note, I do hope that someday someone who lives in an rental apartment like I do could win a dream home. I know its pure chance but it never seems like someone who doesn't already own a home or at least lives in a nice place ever wins. I am hoping I could be that first apartment dweller in 2009!

Will there be another GREEN HOME next year?
Posted by Barbara Pope – August 18, 2008 1:48 PM
Barbara, If you watch the winners walk through video, at the very end it is said that there will be one and to keep checking back.
I wish they would give us some kind of clues about it. Good Luck.

how is she going to use the kids room? its a waste a space . next time you should look if the family fits with the house

Congratulations to all the winners!!!! However, I have yet to see any african american winners???? I watch the show just as much as the white viewers...sure I'm not the only one...but every winner so far has been white???? wonder why????

veronique***If anything is a waste of space, by far it is "your" comment. Had you read anything on this blog or watched the video you would have learned that Marsha (the winners name) has Grandchildren.
Hang on to your seat because here's another news flash: Just because that room is decorated as a kids room it doesn't have to stay that way. Yeah, can you believe it?? Who would have thought?? A very long time ago someone had the novel idea to "redecorate" or "redesign" a room! I know it's shocking, but true. Gee, they even have tons of information about how to do that right here on this very website. Funny, we must have read a different set of Rules for entering the contest. Because no where did it state that your family had to "fit" with the house. Glad all the contests are run fairly.

Just curious if either the dream home or green home winners have moved into their new homes yet?

I'm with SUE,and her blog of July 27. With the state of the economy, I really miss those shows where the participants could actually make money.
OK, guess I'm on the wrong blog. I REALLY loved the Green Home and was so glad to see Marsha win it. Loved SMART ALEC's comments. Question: Would HGTV consider building the next Green Home as far north as Michigan? Is this climate considered too cold for a Green Home? Anyway, I loved all the green tips while watching the GH being built and we're still trying to improve on our green endeavors. Thanks HGTV. Love most of your current shows, but more diversity would be appreciated.

Congratulations to the winner. What a dream come true!!! and to be located on the coast. Living on the coast is one of MY biggest dreams that I hope will come true....one day. Actually, I think it was three years ago, a local resident won the HGTV house giveaway. We live within 20 miles of him, making me feel that there will never be another winner from this area. YIKES! But, in my opinion, it seems like alot of the winners do come from up north. It also seems that most of the people have to sale the homes because of the expenses and taxes. I think HGTV should offer consulting to help the winners find a way to keep the house if they want to. That would be so depressing to win a dream home and then not be able to move there and keep the home. I have a degree in management and design and at the present time own my own business as a professional organizer/consultant....what ideas I get from HGTV!!! My dream would be to have a career with HGTV. What a wonderful job that would be.

The web site says stay tuned for the 2009 Green Home announcement as to where it will be. So we will have another Green Home. That's great!

I love the Dream Home Project. I have entered the Sweeptakes in the past a few times. Is there any information from interviews of the winners to tell if they entered one time and won, or were they people who entered every day? Just curious.

Still waiting for the announcement, can't wait to see where this one will be.

Loved last years Green Home, however I hope that the 2009 home will be universal design for those of us who have a disabled family member. Two bedrooms on the first floor, roll in shower and wider hallways would be perfect. Thanks HGTV for listening!

Just wanted to make a quick statement regarding all the comments about the winners coming from certain areas. When a sweepstakes is run the winner is picked randomly. HGTV would have to go through a vendor who would actually run the sweepstakes and pick the random winner. They don't look at where the person is locator or their race.

When we visited Tradition Hilton Head, which is really Hardeeville 20+ miles from the ocean, the first week of September, they suggested that the winner was unable to financially afford the home and may sell it back to them. Accepting the home prize would require a $400,000 mortgage to pay the taxes for winning. It would be nice for these homes that they GIVE away to be free of taxes.
