If you could be there when we surprise the winner of the 2008 HGTV Green Home, what would you ask them?
Post your question in the comments. We'll pick the best ones and send the list with our video crew when they ambush the winner for the HGTV Green Home Giveaway, airing Sunday, June 8, at 8/7c.
Check back later that week for some special videos, including one where the winner answers your questions.
Be the first to comment! Enter your comment in the form below.
How does it feel to know that you were the one chosen from so many entries?
Posted by deb – May 6, 2008 9:49 AM
First I'd tell them "congratulations!" then I'd ask them what they think the best "green" feature of the home is.
Posted by Snowapple – May 6, 2008 10:07 AM
What do you do in your evveryday life that would be considered green? DO you recycle, compost, drive a hybread, etc?
Posted by Pat Schroeder – May 6, 2008 10:08 AM
How much of your current personal furnishings and decorative items did you need to move in? What about any extra costs, like homeowners insurance?
Posted by Anna Hartley – May 6, 2008 10:11 AM
You are the lucky one, enjoy your new home and enjoy living living greener. Wish is was me

Even though I hope to be there on that AMAZING day because I hope and pray I'm the grand prize winner, my question is...Do you golf and if not do you plan on picking up the sport?
Posted by Lindsey S. – May 6, 2008 10:13 AM
I would ask her/him what on earth did they do right in thier lives to deserve such a blessing? and if they plan on giving back to some one in need, such as a charity, did they pray 24/7?? would they donate thier current home (if owned) to someone in need? and if i could come over to visit for a sleep over? ha ha, cause i would be a great house quest, shoot, i might not want to leave, i'd probably make them a offer on the home, hopefully i'm the random pick, and i'll be open to all questions, Lisa Barnard...Live Love Laugh..........

What I would ask myself is how many kids will I share this beautiful home with?
Posted by Patti D – May 6, 2008 10:46 AM
Congratulations!! I am very happy for you. Are you excited? How does it feel to have won? I would be so excited, I don't believe I would come down off my cloud for at least a week.
Posted by Gloria Moore – May 6, 2008 11:52 AM
I only hope that I won't be able to get a word in edgewise, much less a question, because the winner will be so excited and screaming and such! Unlike the very NON excited winner of the last dream home, make that the last TWO dream homes.
Posted by Tom Z – May 6, 2008 11:54 AM
I would ask "Now that you have won the Green Home, what will you do to help spread green living to others?" Good luck to everyone!
Posted by Charlene – May 6, 2008 12:32 PM
I would ask them how it felt to be the owner of a green friendly home and what did they have planned to do the first day in the home?
Posted by Candy Boney – May 6, 2008 12:41 PM
YOU WON! YOU WON! I know it must be like dreaming. What is the first thing that came to mind? Packing? Are there any neighbors yet that might be like me? Is this for real? Someone pinch me! Look at the view - majestic! Look at the screen porch. Enjoy every minute of this moment. When you wake up tomorrow it will be there again. Congratulations!

Do you think you will leave the house exactly as is, or are you already planning some rearranging?
Posted by Jennifer L – May 6, 2008 1:08 PM
I would ask the winner which room is their favorite?
Posted by Dana Dryburgh – May 6, 2008 1:27 PM
"Forget the Dream and maybe the Blog cause you just won the Green of them all." I enter for all the Dream Homes and have also been doing it for the Blog Cabin. But this is by far the BEST home of them all. GOOD LUCK to all of you who have entered.
Posted by clifton t wilder – May 6, 2008 2:40 PM
how cool is the room for the kids, and if that is one of your favorites.
Posted by johnnie banks – May 6, 2008 2:46 PM
What do you think helped you to become the random pick? In one word how do you feel right now that you have Won? Do you think you will move into this home or will you leave it for tourist for the next couple of years?
Posted by Southern Lady – May 6, 2008 3:35 PM
This question is for the fellow bloggers, are any of you entering the DIY sweat equity challenge? after all scripps owns it also, i've entered every day since it started on the 28th of april, i checked the winners list at least 10 times a day, well, now it is posted, the daily winners of a 1.000.00 home depot card and the first of 5 weekly winners of a 10,000.00 home depot card, i was alittle upset, i must admitt, almost threw in the towel, but i'm gonna keep on trying, because no matter the outcome, we all should never give up, and if i should not win, then oh well, life goes on, besides, the grand prize is 100,000.00 in cash, that sounds pretty good, hopefully after all this typing and entering these contests every time hgtv and diy has one, i'll win one of them, it would be right nice, Lisa...Live Love Laugh...

Just returned from Hilton Head...26 years vacationing there. My children always vacationed there every year with us, took their first steps there and always were taught to appreciate the well planned and eco-friendly enviroment that the city planners understood long before "greening" was fashionable. I hope the winner appreciates this exquisite coexistence with nature that HGTV has produced in true Hilton Head style!
Posted by Kathleen – May 6, 2008 6:32 PM
Congradulations! You won! Is the HGTV Greenhome as beautiful in person as it is on T.V? When you realized your prayers had been answered, did you remember who made it possible? And all the hardworking people who put their time into creating such a home? Alot of people don't realized how truly blessed they are to have good people in their lives. Once again, Congradulations on your new home and may you continue to be blessed. Welcome to South Carolina, the state with "Beautiful Places, and Smiling Faces". You will love it here! Don't forget to message us and let us know what it feels like to be a winner of a new home and car. How much of a difference is it? I have yet to receive my blessing. I've been patient for years but mines will come too. If I don't win this year maybe our Heavenly Father will bless us next year. I just got to continue praying and waiting. Well anyways, My children and I can't wait to see your reaction:) Thank you for your time. Smile and enjoy your home!...P.S. You might want to keep on watching this station with your family!

Now that you've won how are you going to pay the $365500.00 tax bill Good luck!
Posted by Norman L. Harris – May 6, 2008 7:13 PM
After congratulating the winner, I would ask: Have you ever posted on this blog....once, several times, often, or never? I've wondered the same thing about the the Dream Home. Has there ever been a blogger who has won? fcole and kwalters, please answer if you can. It really doesn't matter, because the winner could only answer, "I'm Blessed". LOVE this GREEN HOME, and thanks HGTV for building it. And Good Luck to all.
Posted by Katydid – May 6, 2008 7:59 PM
First I would say congratulations on winning one of the greatest homes ever! Then I would ask what their favorite room in the house is and why? Do they plan to live in the Green Home? And finally I would ask if the person would be willing to start a blog to share a bit about their experiences living in the Green Home (if they are).
I will miss talking about the Green Home when the contest ends. I know there will be other homes, but I am guessing none this like this one!
Posted by Mary – May 6, 2008 8:50 PM
I would see if they had kids and ask the parents if you could ask them a few questions.....I know My son and my daughter would be very excited and would love to see the childrens reactions to winning a HOME!
I would ask.....Did you ever think when entering this contest that you would be the one?
What kind of vehicle do you drive right now because you have a new one waiting for you.
Is there anyone you would like to call right now and hand them a cell phone and tape it.
I personally would love to see someone win who has kids and really needs it...like a single mom (hint hint...lol)
It seems like the last two dream home winners were not very excited and they already owned a home. I think it would be much more exciting to see someone who lives in apartment or someone who doesnt own a home to win this.
I dont umderstand how the people who won didnt look excited at all. Even if it is retaped....I would be in tears...thanking everyone for the rest of my life.
People dont win homes and cars everyday and I think they should be more thankful.
Im getting way off topic now....
Just want to tell everyone GOODLUCK;)
Posted by Jo~Jo – May 6, 2008 9:21 PM
I would ask if I could be their first home guest....because they sure could be mine!! I also would just tell them that they need to appreciate every ingenious idea and furniture tranformation, every still life out of each window and just feel the breezy air and relax on the screen porch. What an amazing home!
Posted by Mary Lyttle – May 6, 2008 9:31 PM
In your wildest dreams, did you ever think that you would be the winner?
Posted by Maximilian – May 6, 2008 10:02 PM
I would have to ask, "How many times did you entered the contect?" and "Was it on-line or through the mail?"
I've entered both ways!!! My husband and I went and took the tour of the Green Home in Tradition. It's less than 2 hours from where we currently live. The home is even more beautiful than on TV.
I think the best thing about the Green Home is that it has brought a greater understanding of what living green can mean.
Posted by Donna – May 6, 2008 10:19 PM
Congratulations on your new home!! During this contest my family has been looking at more ways to be "green" with the hopes to improve our current home, environment and way of living. What strategies have you been doing or will do to better our environment?
Posted by Pamela Capo – May 6, 2008 10:33 PM
First I will say...Congratulations! Then, I am going to ask them...Do you think this house is complementing all you need for the future?
Posted by Miriam – May 6, 2008 10:57 PM
I would, of course, say congratulations! Then I would ask: once the situation sinks in and you move into the Green Home, will you join the neighborhood clubs and take your kids to soccer practice and have picnics and parties for your family and friends like a regular home owner? Or will you feel out of place in your new environment and too much overwhelmed to relax in the most amazing prize of your life? Enjoy! Enjoy!

How does it feel to be the lucky winner of this beautiful HGTV Green Home? You are the envy of all of us and I wish you many happy years in this outstanding Home from HGTV.
Posted by Alice Muller – May 6, 2008 11:18 PM
Can you afford the taxes to continue to live there when you pay income tax on your winnings. It would be a shame to win this magnificent home if that person cannot afford to pay the IRS and keep it too.
Hopefully a retiree or someone close to that age can live out the rest of their life there and pass it down as their legacy. AWESOME HOME!
Posted by Annelle – May 6, 2008 11:22 PM
I hope you are more excited about winning this home than the last two people that won the HGTV Dream home! My question is, will you actually move to this home? If I win it, I will absolutely move there. I have relatives just a couple of hours away, and the climate here in Cincinnati is not very nice. I have family who vacation in the area every year. I will probably see them more often if I live there! Good luck, and God bless whoever wins.

I have another question to ask the winner. Will you honor HGTV and the 'Green Home' by living 'Green' and being respectful of the 'Traditon' that HGTV and the community of 'Tradition Hilton Head' stand for? Will you volunteer in the community, and/or help educate people on living green?
Posted by deb – May 7, 2008 7:30 AM
Thought of another question. Would you allow your home to be used for educational purposes, such as school groups, etc. to come tour the home? I would think that would be a wonderful way to give back, and a way to show how very appreciative one would be to win this home.
Posted by deb – May 7, 2008 7:34 AM
Did you enter the contest on-line or via email and did you enter multiple times? What is your favorite 'green feature'? CONGRATULTIONS, you must feel so BLESSED.
Posted by Debbie P. – May 7, 2008 8:21 AM
I would ask the winner how many contests they enter and if this is the first one they have won.
Also, to the gentleman who asked how the winner is going to pay the $345K taxes.....I assume he means 'gift tax', which isn't the responsibility of the winner/donee, but gets paid to the government by the donor, if I understand the IRS tax laws correctly.

Can I be there when you go to see the GREEN home for the first time?...mostly I want to meet Jack and Linda...an amazing duo!!

WOW, what an amazing miraculous blessing to be chosen out of ALL those people, !! i have imagined this all along and I THOUGHT HILTON HEAD was MY family's favorite place; but please use it for all your friends that need a good vacation also, and let them see the beauty of HH and also how it's great to live green.
Posted by diane – May 7, 2008 9:43 AM
I'm with katydid, i'm intrested to know how many times they entered, and if they at any time blogged on this blog, it would also be nice to know if any of the past winners ever were a part of the blogging, it would be nice if they did, us bloggers have been faithful to the blog, i realize that it is a random draw, but it would still be nice, i remember when a lady won the 21 thousand from century 21, it said on the website that she only entered once, and the guy that won the best built home for three hundred and fifty thousand was just completeing his newly built home, so he chose the cash option, i had planned on putting that home in mountain home arkansas, i got let down pretty bad on that contest, but got over it, just curious, it would be nice to have some of are questions answered hint hint kwalters, only two more days to enter for the green home, i'll wish you all the best of luck, and yes i do mean it, although i want it , ya'll hear me??? I WANT TO BE THE RANDOM DRAW GREEN HOME WINNER!!!! YAHOOOOO, Lisa... Live Love Laugh
Posted by Lisa Barnard – May 7, 2008 10:17 AM
I would ask the winner how many times did they enter online?
Did they send in any postcards or mail in entries, and if so, how many?
And I would like to know if they are one of the many awesome bloggers here!! :-)
I didn't enter via mail for the green home this time. I've sent in 100 postcards for the last 2 or 3 dream homes and I wonder if they are even counted and should I bother in the future?? Seems like all the winners so far only entered online (I think the last DH winner said she only entered 11 times??!! LUCKY!!) ;-)

Why do you think you have been blessed as the winners of this incredible Green House? How do you think it will change the very core of who you are?
You have been truly blessed...congratulations!
Posted by Liz – May 7, 2008 10:47 AM
I do have a question for HGTV: In the rules it states that a "predetermined number of finalists" will be chosen and that those finalists will participate in a live drawing (on or about June 7-9), where one winner will be chosen. It doesn't say anything about the finalists winning anything. Not that finalists are supposed to win anything, but gosh, what a let-down! To come so close and be standing in the house and then be told "wah-wah-wah....sorry, you didn't win...now go home the way you came here...empty handed and penniless". lol...okay, so maybe it won't be that rough, but ya'll know what I'm saying, right?!! It would be nice to offer some sort of consolation prize.
:-)

Posted by Tracey Cheramie – May 7, 2008 11:55 AM
First! I would say CONGRADULATION!, Then i would ask them How do you feel knowing that you will be living in an all GREEN house, and what does that mean too you, and how it will affect your way of living, do you know the amount of money that you will be saving a year by all the energy saving appliances and fixtures that come with your home, will this make you more aware of the importance in the way people should live.
Posted by Mary Cogburn – May 7, 2008 1:43 PM
I would ask them how they plan to use the house, and if living green is something they want to promote to others. My parents lived on Hilton Head for years, and I had my honeymoon there, so would love to retire in the vicinity myself!
Posted by Constance – May 7, 2008 2:15 PM
I've learned a lot about becoming green in my daily life through this Green Home. It would be
awesome to live in a home that has educated people across the nation. What does green mean to you?
Posted by Sheryl – May 7, 2008 2:21 PM
Congrats on your new GREEN home. HOPE YOUR ENJOY YOUR LOVELY HOME. Its my birthday (June, 8th). Maybe I will get something great like you did ;)
Posted by Lori Burrell – May 7, 2008 2:25 PM
Would you be willing to be part of a show (reality??) called "Living Right - Living Green" on HGTV?
I think it would be really great to show how this house really functions in day to day life and the reality of "Going Green"...the changes this house makes in energy bills, in the way we live, the way we feel, the way we buy, the way we interact with others and the way others interact when in the "Green Home". It could be considered "Continuing Education"! I would find this a life-altering experience and would embrace it as an opportunity to teach the world how and why to change what we are doing in our daily lives to save our earth, one house at a time! How could this incredible piece of craftmanship not prompt changes within the people who have been blessed to receive this house! If I could only be so lucky.
Posted by loddybroom – May 7, 2008 2:25 PM
You "Lucky-Ducky"! I hope you will be able to inspire others to "Live Green", mostly.
Q. Did you enter the contest everyday? Q. What do you do to live green, presently? Q. Will this be your vacation home? Q. Do you have lots of family that will want to see H.H., SC. all of a sudden? Haha!
Best of luck in your new "Green-House". Keep the good green vibes going.

For JUDY...the winner of ANY HGTV home gets a 1099 for the IRS based on the value of the prize, in this case it is approximately $850,000. That means that come April 15 of 2009, the WINNER will owe the IRS 35% of the value of the prize, because that will automatically put them into the highest tax bracket. The WINNER is solely responsible to pay this bill in it's entirety, not HGTV or Scripps. YOU!!! Not only that, you very well may owe both your home state and S. Carolina taxes too, which is why the previous blogger said $350,000. Even though the house is free, the tax consequences are substantial, which is why almost EVERY winner needs to sell the house, because they cannot afford the taxes. None the less, even if you cannot keep the house and need to sell it, winning is a huge blessing because you should still walk away with about a half a million dolllars
Posted by kim – May 7, 2008 3:01 PM
I would certainly be very happy & excited if I won this home. I am sure that there are many questions to ask the winner. I know that if I won I would be standing there asking if it was really "real"!! In response to Judy's post regarding "gift taxes". This is a contest so the winner is not given a "gift" for income tax purposes. It is considered income and taxable to the winner.
Posted by Kathy D – May 7, 2008 3:16 PM
How much do you have to pay in property taxes upon winning the Dream Home? Are you under contract to keep everything that comes in the prize package or are you allowed to sell some stuff...like say the golf clubs if you don't golf? And all the kiddie stuff if you don't have kids??
Posted by rachael – May 7, 2008 4:01 PM
Congratulations. How special does it make you feel to live in this Green Home in this green community? And my answer would be: It makes me feel more and more like a citizen of Plant Earth - because I will do everything that I can to preserve it - starting with my wonderful home.
Posted by Barbara – May 7, 2008 4:26 PM
I too would like to know how many times the winner entered. Is it truely random, or is it the amount of times you entered. Also good question about the taxes. Regardless, I can't imagine a more fabulous prize. What a house, what a location!!
Posted by Kel – May 7, 2008 4:45 PM

Posted by Donna – May 7, 2008 5:48 PM
Did you for one day think you would not win? If you have room, I would be happy to book a weekend in 2009 as a Bed and Breakfest Inn to help pay taxes!! Yeeee Haw!!! Have Fun!!!!

I would hug the winner, jump on the beds with the winner and toast the home on the North deck with the winner. Then my question would be "WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR :)?"

Prior to the Green Home contest did you ever think about the effect's of "Green House" on our planet? What does that one plastic bag or throw away diaper do to our planet, how long does it take to biodegrate? Now that you have this Green Home will you educate yourself and family on living green? How will you celebrate? Will you plan a big party, in your hometown or at the house? What feature of the home will you love the most? Will you keep the home? Whatever you decide, you are blessed and you can bask in this moment. Congratulations and best wishes in your future! For all those haters on this blog, ignore them! They are just jealous and wish they had the options you now have. To everyone: BE BLESSED and BE HAPPY and SHARE whatever you have. : )

I will miss you also Deb,
Reading your blogs have been entertaining and a joy, we got just one more day to enter, so GOOD LUCK to you girl, Nobody answered my question about entering the DIY contest, if we can't win this pretty little green house, then maybe we could win a home depot card, HGTV owns DIY, so it's not like i'm trying to take away from HGTV, we could use those home depot cards to make our homes more eco-friendly, myself, the 100,000.00 in cash sounds a whole lot better, i would be able to PAY OFF all my bills, then use whats left to remodel my entire doublewide, so, in other words, we all would still have a chance of winning something, we are all winners, because we are GOOD PEOPLE with GOOD HEARTS, like my fellow blogging buddy deb, so, if none of us are chosen as that random pick, then always remember that you are a winner, never give up, we might get alittle upset, but we'll get over it, if it is meant to be, than it shall, if not, then oh well, life will go on, make the most of what you got, cause we all only get one chance at life, so live each second/minute to the fullest, i call this ration'al (the secret), there is a book out there called THE SECRET, got to believe, have faith, and NEVER GIVE UP, take care to all my blogging buddy's, i'm sure we'll meet again, (the 09 dream home)ha ha, I hope you all have good, happy lives, enjoy your summer, Lisa...Live Love Laugh

Hi,
First I would like to tell everyone involved in the constuction and idea of the HGTV Green Home...."Kudo's"! I'm a great fan of mother nature and we should all be involved....even in small ways!
I would say to the winner: Congratulations and
welcome to your "Ever-Green Dream"!
It would be wonderful to win and guess what?
The day you announce it....June 8th, is our 40th
wedding anniversary!
Thanks again for all your hard work, Linda Dale

Congratulations. You have been blessed. South Carolina is my home. I know that you will share this home with family and friends. I know that I would if I were the winner. Enjoy.

I would first say Congratulations on winning the HGTV Green House. Then asked what does it mean to you to win this fabulous "green" home. I, personally, having been praying and hoping to win this green home. I will be waiting for HGTV to ring my doorbell and say "Congratulations-you are the fabulous winner of this amazing green home." After jumping up and down and thanking Jesus, I probably would ask if I was dreaming since I have never won anything before(other than my wonderful husband - LOL). I really want this home- I have been picturing my family in this home every night before I go to bed. Also been picturing my family coming down for the week and the weekends for a vacation. Also would love to have all my girlfriends from across S.C. to come down to Hilton Head for our annually "girls weekend". Boy would they truly love me. They could come alot more often. I have been going to their towns since I have such a small house- don't have the room. Could invite more than 6 at a time- Would love to sleep out on the porch/vernadez. I truly believe in conservation. I actually have been working with soil & water conservation for the past 17 years in Myrtle Beach/Conway, SC. I would give the hybrid to my daughter since she is in college in Columbia and she comes home on the weekends. That would help her with the gas prices while improving the environment. I have loved all of the homes before but when this came along- I told my husband that God had bless us by not letting us win before because this is the PERFECT home for us before of the eco-friendly home, love the color green, the location, I truly mean "everything" is perfect and who better to win the "GREEN" home than a true "CONSERVATIONIST" Good luck to everyone and God bless us all. I will be waiting for the doorbell to ring.

1.)YAY, congrats, hope you enjoy your new home!
2.) Are you going to keep the home?
3.) If No, Why wouldn't you? Its everything any family would want, specially with all the environmental saving materials and gadgets it has, I know with our Military budget, it would be a dream come true. LOL
Posted by Livette Vega-Sims – May 8, 2008 10:57 AM
I would have to say congradulations on a brand new beautiful home and ask how they plan on spending thier first night in thier new home.
Posted by Jessica Ives – May 8, 2008 11:29 AM
Congratulations! Will you be converting it to the first "Green Home Church"? This will be a way to get some sort of tax break from Uncle Sam. (That's what I would probably do) Just attach a Cross on the roof, but not on the solar panels, and hold meetings on Sunday, with golfing and barbeque afterwards. Big tax breaks if you do this.

Did you have a feeling this home would be yours?
Posted by kathy – May 8, 2008 12:15 PM
Now that you have been given this incredible gift, how will you give back?
May I suggest allowing HGTV to use the house to do shows on "Turning Green" that teaches people how to live GREEN. Taking a an average family who knows little about living green and teaching them ways to integrate planet saving techniques into their everyday living. Some people can't make drastic changes such as building an entire Green Home, but can make changes in their daily habits that can make a differencee. Share this incredible gift with millions! Share it with the viewers of HGTV!

Congrats on your big win, I really hope you take full advantage of your new home and all it stands for and offers. Do you plan to just move your family and clothes in only? I really hope this home goes to someone who is good and could not afford something like this ever in their life. I would love for it to be my family.
Posted by Trevah – May 8, 2008 2:43 PM
I think my question would be:
How do you think this will effect your closest friends and family?Do you think that"if you don't live in South Carolina",That some of your family and friends might make the move to be nearer to you?
Good luck to everyone who has entered!

To the new winner of this fabulous home I would also ask...Do you promise to love, honor, and cherish, this wonderful gift that has been bestowed upon you????
Posted by deb – May 8, 2008 3:13 PM
I would first say Congrats on winning!!! Then ask "did you think in your wildest dreams that you would win? Then ask if they plan to live there or sell?
I think we all hope that we might be the licky ones to win this fabulous Green home.
Who ever wins will be lucky. I have my fingers crossed it will be me and my family.

Could I pitch a tent within your backyard next to the fire pit ??
Posted by Tickle – May 8, 2008 4:01 PM
My questions for the winner would be: Did you think you were the one? How often did you enter? Did you enter on line or by mail? (all these questions everyone wants to know) Also, were they bloggers on HGTV.com. How is this going to change their lives. Do they live green now and in what capacity? It is a beautiful home that has been so well planned for a family and I truly wish everyone the best of luck as we enter for the last time tomorrow. I really hope that the winner does come from the blog. It would be nice to see someone that has been communicating on the blog for a long time become a real person instead of a thought typed in a box. GOOD LUCK

The question is "How are you going to pass it on?" Of course, winning something like this is astounding and emotional for the winner. The gift of this very special prize is that you feel good about what you are doing not just for your neighborhood by supporting this concept but what you are doing for the world. If every home owner would make incremental changes, by considering the couple extra cents "going green" requires, we could truly all contribute to salvaging our world for now and for those to come. It may start with the weird looking light bulbs but there is so much more out there. This is environmental responsibility at its best. Congratulations Winner and Congratulations HGTV for spear heading this movement. So winner, "Now that you have been given this extraordinary, sensational, tear inviting gift, how are you going to pass it on?" WE'RE All GREEN WITH ENVY!!! ;>)
Posted by C Schaefer – May 8, 2008 5:04 PM
Did you enter because it was a green home that was beautiful or just because it was pretty?
Posted by Emily – May 8, 2008 5:57 PM
Okay, I'm not homeless yet, but I AM jobless and I still haven't paid the rent cuz I got fired for missing too many days of work because of my migraines. I cannot help being sick, but they didn't care. My daughter and I have always lived in apartments since I'm a single mom (no child support, either)...except I managed to buy a house one time, then it foreclosed on me because I couldn't afford to fix the broken heater AND make the payment...it was a bad neighborhood anyway, as I found out AFTER I moved in. I keep hoping that God would allow me to win a house...I don't know how I would pay the taxes, but we desperately need a forever home someplace nice. Not in the ghetto like a Habitat home would be. I do have an education and will find work again. I know God will take care of us, He always has...but right now, I'm thinking, "Wouldn't it be GREAT if HE allowed me and my child to win this home?"...My question would be to someone else who won the home..."If you don't need it, can my daughter and I have it?" As I see most of the people who win things like this don't really need it. Someone who wins a piano already has a piano, someone who wins a bicycle already owns a bicycle, someone who wins the lottery already has his work life done and is living nicely on the retirement he created for himself. May GOD bless someone with this house who TRULY needs it, but if not, may that someone be a Good Steward of God's Blessings! :)

Since I am Dying to win this home as it is Beautiful and Eco friendly, I would ask the winner if they planned on living in the home and going to take care of the home, also how it feels to win such an extrodinary prize, and hope they know its truely a blessing and a honor to have been chosen. As a single mother of 3 wonderful boys(No child support here either) having never owned a home, I would truely baby this home. I'm with ya "homeless in Al" I'm not homeless, but living with my sister and husband... Thankful I have a home to live in but its not mine. I pray that whomever wins the home is truely deserving and appreciative of what an amazing honor this truely is... and be happy!!! ( unlike past winners who seemed to not really care). I was so Disappointed when I watched the winner of the last Dream House. Seemed like she didn't care. So to you who wins, a Ginormous CONGRATS!!!!! And cherish what you have been given!

We are currently unemployed and have been enjoying entering this contest daily as it gives us hope. We are dreaming of winning this beautiful house of course. My husband really wants to win and I think it would be really nice to have a place to vacation and have family reunions and friends come and stay with us. But, I think it would just be nice to be re-employed again and that is my prayer. This contest has been fun and I know we will not win as we are never so lucky. I want the winner to know how blessed they are and ask them, "What do you plan on doing next?". Congratulations to you!!!!!!

Congratulations lucky one! You are so fortunate. I hope you are as thrilled to be in Hilton Head as I was for my very first visit 2 years ago. We have two good friends who purchased homes in Hilton Head years ago, and I always liked to hear how much they loved it there and felt how lucky they were. After many years of wanting to go there to see Hilton Head, and their homes, two years ago my husband and I finally drove down to South Carolina from New York State and stopped by to visit both of these friends for the day. Everything they said about Hilton Head was true and more so. We loved it! It looks like a paradise, with It's green grass and abundant flowers and natural settings, and so full of nature. We could have spent a week there, instead of a day or even forever for that matter, it's so serene. When I saw HGTV was giving away a home in Hilton Head of all places, I was very excited and decided to enter the contest, and try my luck, and maybe my dream could come true and I could also be one of the lucy people living in beautiful Hilton Head, and an eco friendly home made it even better,it's typically Hilton Head. You are so lucky! You will love Hilton Head! enjoy! enjoy! many wonderful years there. A question I'd like to ask you is, Do you have a home as lovely as this one? Will you live in this house in this area? If you are not sure, I can tell you you'll love it! Most people do.
Posted by Dee – May 8, 2008 11:19 PM
I would say congrats! If, like me,you can not afford the taxes, and will need to sell this wonderful dream home to pay the taxes, will you use your net gain after taxes to build your own green dream home somewhere else?

If you do not plan to live here, would you consider selling at a reasonable price?
Posted by Juanita Cowart – May 9, 2008 7:21 AM
Well, here we are. the last day. To my blogging friends, to HGTV, to the 'Green Home', thank you so much, I have enjoyed being here everyday, and the blogging with good people. Of course we all want to win, that's why we are here, and 'WE' know that this is a contest, that it is a random drawing, that one of us may be chosen, or we might not. I have entered on line and by mail - mega mail, and I read the rules, I know it is a 'RANDOM' drawing. I would like to say to the entrants who are giving their life stories here, it is a random drawing. There isn't a soul out there that couldn't give a sad story as to why they should win this home, me included. But this is a contest, like buying a lottery ticket. Please, if you don't win, don't take it personally, and don't get upset. There is a reason for everything, God may have something better for you down the road. But you have to look forward, not back. So keep a positive attitude. Keep trying and don't give up. As far as the Dream Home winner, I have to come to her defense. Not everyone has the personality of jumping up and down and screaming. She may be a very shy person in front of strangers. Please understand that because she didn't 'act' excited, doesn't mean she wasn't. I bet when the cameras and all were gone, she jumped up and down!!! Let us all think positive, good thoughts, about the new dream home winner and the new 'Green Home' winner, whoever that may be. Good luck all, I'll be back before this day is over.

I just entered for the last time, i believe i was able to enter every day, wouldn't that make 49 entries? i think so, so i've already answered one of the questions that so many want to ask the winner(me) just kidding, but my hopes are that i will relocate to south carolina, another answered question ha, and i couldn't just say i like one particular room the best, cause, i LOVE them all, the verandas north and south are so darn nice, the steps leading up to the front door (nice), the open floor plan from the kitchen to the dining room (nice), and i reckon from viewing the garage the winner also will be getting a golf cart,(nice) yes, i will take up the art of golfing, i might even become the next tiger woods, and yes, if given this home, i would give back, in many ways, it's called "pay it forward" one of my favorite movies, anyone care to check out my myspace page it is www.myspace.com/lisa71446, it is open for public views, thats one way we could keep in touch, i have a friend on there from last years dream home blog, for all of you, aim high, and reach for those stars, you just might grab a hold of one, Love and Good Health to you all, Lisa.. I would like to wish everyone "GOOD LUCK" on winning the Green House. For future reference if I may be so bold as to say this. Please don't use this forum to vent one's life's tragadies. It is to correspond to other's who enter the sweepstakes. To be able to dream is fine but not to get under everyones skin and make those of us who are happy with life feel bad about being just that happy. We all have our up's and down's.
Again, good luck.

The main question that would be on my mind, but couldn't bring myself to ask, is, "Do you need it?"
I personally think that if that person doesn't need it, but just wanted it just to have it, shouldn't have entered. They just won something from someone who could have trully benefited from it, like someone who needs a house to live in and is tired of living in someone else's house.
I'm going off subject. I don't quite know what other question I'd want to ask. I know that person would either move in it, give it to a someone else, or sell it to make a profit. Besides, what's not to like about the Green Home?
Posted by James – May 9, 2008 10:27 AM
I too just entered for the last time. I have had fun getting up each morning and entering the contest and going to bed each night thinking about a change. A reality show about living in the GREEN HOUSE would be fun but as the winner this is a start of a new life for you and your family. We see so much being done to make people GREEN aware. What have you learned from this experience and what would you like to teach all of us?
May the winner be blessed!
jennifer
ps: a funny moment: My 4 year old told me that a boys favorite color is blue and girls is pink. Then he ask me my favorite color. Which is GREEN. He said well then boys like blue, girls like pink and moms like GREEN.
Such a simple world when we are 4. So too all the moms remember we can shape the way our children see the world in every simple moment. Make GREEN important and fun in your homes!

MY QUESTION:
Did you enter this home to become green?
Posted by Tyler – May 9, 2008 3:12 PM
"What feature or part of the house inspires you or moves you the most".
For me everytime I look through the photos I am inspired by the fact that through it all(Construction etcetera) nothing was destroyed it was carefully thought out, old things were given new life and I also love that local artist's have their work featured in the home.

Did you ever believe something like this could happen to YOU? Everyone wishes for dreams like this and for the lucky few, some do come true. You represent that dream that anyone can win. The luck of the draw, roll of the dice, pick of a card...it was you that won. Can we all live vicariously through you while we dream for the next one? CONGRATULATIONS!!
