We held the random drawing this morning and Jim Samples, president of HGTV, picked the potential winner* for the 2008 HGTV Green Home!
This was the first time I'd attended a drawing like this and I was surprised by how official it was. Third-party auditors attended, overseeing every aspect of the process. The way that on-air and snail mail entries are combined is truly ingenious and it gives everyone who entered an equal chance to win.
We had three times more entries than we expected, and out of that, only a small fraction of entries were mailed in. Way to go green and save paper, everyone!
The mail-in entries we did receive were really varied. I saw antique postcards, hand-painted postcards, envelopes lettered with messages and decorated with paint and stickers. There was even a low-tech entry made out of the cardboard backing from a note pad.
I won't know the name or location of the winner until you do, when we announce it in the HGTV Green Home Giveaway special on Sunday, June 8, at 8/7c. Be sure to tune in and see if you won -- and then check back on the website Monday morning to meet the winner and hear them answer your questions.
Don't forget! Tomorrow's the last day you can enter to win the Get More Green Sweepstakes.
And come back Friday to see Carter's answers to your questions (from way back in January -- you probably thought I'd forgotten about them!).
* There's still some verification that needs to take place, so it's not official quite yet. :)
Be the first to comment! Enter your comment in the form below.
congratulations winner. I am sending you my best wishes for a happy home filled with lots of love, family and friends to make memories that will carry on for generations. GOD BLESS YOU, YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR NEW HOME.

Oh my, someone has been truly blessed! I'm a little confused by kwalters statement, "be sure to tune in and see if you won". I was under the impression that the winner would be notified before the air time on June 8th. And the surprise would be taped and shown on that program, along perhaps, with the winner making a live appearance. I also thought there would be several finalists, and the winner chosen from them. Oh well, it's HGTV's party and they can run it any way they like. I am just greatful that they built such a fabulous GREEN HOME and let us dream and learn so much about going green.
But I worry that some hopefuls will get their hair done, put on lipstick and wait for the knock on their door. But there's still the SEARS and KOHLER prizes to hope for, so Good Luck to all and pleasant dreams.

Have the finalists all been notified? In other words, if anyone had not heard anything as of yet, does that mean that they are out of the running?
I believe I saw in the rules that finalists would know by May 19th
Thanks!

Thanks so much for the information. We have all been dying to know what has been going on, and how things will play out. It seems we were all under the assumption that their would be several finalists, and the actual winner would be chosen from the finalists on June 8th. Does the winner know? Is it a surprise like the Dream Home? Do tell--very curious.

I think another drawing is in order! One that follows the rules!! Rules said finalists with an s, meaning more than one!!! I wonder if all of us in agreement with this need to go public! You can't have a drawing that does not follow your own rules. Ratings are gonna dwindle over this one........
Posted by truckinangel35 – May 21, 2008 9:17 PM
Okay, so I'm sure this is what everyone wants to know. Has HGTV already contacted the winner? If not, will they do this before the show? I was confused. I thought there were a few semi-finalist drawn. Anyways, thanks for the update.

This would be a fabulous get-well "card" for my husband who just had heart surgery and nearly died twice last week! Prior to his surgery he lost his job and now we are going to lose our home. We sure could use a new home in Hilton Head! Will be tuned in at 8PM Sunday June 8! Thank you HGTV -- my favorite channel!

Oh God I was looking at the video of the green house again this morning may 22, and had been going thru the room again and dreaming I was really living there, then all of a sudden I saw on the left side of the page the words (we have a winner) God my heart leaped and here I am thinking Oh I hope it's me I hope I am the winner I want a house so bad I really could cry and now I am saying on june the 8th they are gonna call my name I hope I searched the site to see whom had won but I read that no one will know who won until the 8th of june now I am again sad gotta wait to see who won I just hope it is me,I know I am not the only one that feels this way, but I still hope it is me that won the house, it will be a place to call home my home, and it is so pretty and I love the color of green all shades of green, teal green is so pretty.Well everyone not to be greedy but--WISH ME LUCK-- on June the 8th I hope I won.

Congratulations HGTV winner(s). I've learned so much from this website and related sponsors. Going Green continues to be the best thing in my life and seeing how it changed all of us for a healthier environment, a healhier way of living & most of all a better future is the best prize ever that we all share! Thank you everyone. Thank you HGTV. I've enjoy reading all the comments, and seeing how others have gone green too. Wow!!! This journey has truly been amazing.

My heartfelt congratulations to the winner, and thanks HGTV. You inspire so many people.
Posted by Katie in FL – May 22, 2008 8:13 AM
In reading everyones comments, i find myself disgusted with a couple of them especially one in particular, already B-t--hing about the rules and wait untill the public hears, cry us a river, shall we have a pity party for you?? maybe your name was drawn, and hopefully after that stupid comment, they throw it back into the draw and re pick, (HGTV) this is thier giveaway they can and will do it as they see fit GOT IT????????? besides i'm sure it probably states on there some where RULES SUBJECT TO CHANGE, man, some people in this world just can't be pleased and want to ruin it for everyone else, sorry, but couldn't let this one go, NO CALL FOR IT, HGTV, doesn't have to give a D-MN thing away to any of us, get a grip on things, mainly yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you, for my friends, not the whiner's have a great LIFE, LISA BARNARD...
Posted by Lisa Barnad – May 22, 2008 8:19 AM
Now on a much softer note,
I hope someone that is good and nice wins this blessing, myself, after reading some of these comments, i don't even want it anymore, this world is full of such selfish people, that it is pathetic and i'm ashamed for them, because they can't see for themselves that they are blessed that they are winners no matter the outcome of these giveaways, my God it's only material stuff being given away, be grateful with what you got and make the most of it, and PlEASE folks don't complain about how a company GIVES something away, to you all, I hope you all have a ABUNDANCE OF GOD'S BLESSINGS, whether that might be materialistic, wisdom, inner joy and happiness and peace, Maybe instead of gripeing, say a prayer for our troops, use your negativity for something GOOD, i'll check back from time to time, but i can't and won't post again to such ignorance, not worth my blood pressure shooting through the roof, have good lives to you all, Lisa...

TRUCKINANGEL35--
I totally agree with you, the rules clearly said that there were going to be FINALISTS and that the winner was going to be picked live from those finalists. So why was only one name picked?? That doesn't make any sense. I used to work in HR, so I can't help but want to follow the rules!! :-)
That is disappointing if there aren't several names picked as was eluded to in the rules, it would have been nice to see finalists at the home and then the winner announced live. That way it truly is a surprise.
I'm curious too, as another blogger asked, how many entries were there?
Last day for my Sears/Kohler entry....maybe I'll win this one! We sure could use a new TV, refrigerator, oven....the list goes on and on. :-)
Posted by Michelle, Atlanta GA – May 22, 2008 9:55 AM

I've dreamed of winning for a long time. Thanks HGTV. Maybe some day my dream will come true.

Love to all because love is truly all we got.

Important to Read...
Drawing: The potential Grand Prize Winner and Second Prize Winner will be selected in a random drawing from among all eligible entries received during the entire Sweepstakes Period on or about May 23, 2008 by Ritway, Inc. an independent judging organization ("Sweepstakes Administrator") and will be announced during the HGTV Green Home Giveaway television special airing on HGTV on June 8, 2008. Winners will also be contacted by phone and/or email after the television special airs.

Kwalters, will you please take a few moments of your time to explain what you mean by watch on June 8 @ 8 to see if you have won? I ,like other veiwers were under the imppression based on the rules given that 5 finalists would be chosen and brought together for the drawing of the winner in a live televised show on June 8 @ 8. Did hgtv in fact change the rules?
Posted by Dana Dryburgh – May 22, 2008 11:44 AM
To Michelle, Atlanta, GA:
I just want to thank you for seeing it the way I saw it. Many dreamers disagreed with me, although it was right there in black and white. I did get stright A's in my English/Grammar classes, and when an (s) is put on a word it pluralizes it to mean "more than ONE". Thanks again! ( I only have a little over $1,000 invested in my entries and postage, if it was more money, I might consider consulting with my lawyer over this)
Posted by truckinangel35 – May 22, 2008 11:44 AM
will anyone answer whether or not the winners have been notified?
Posted by Anonymous – May 22, 2008 12:15 PM
well,
I'm totally surprised that if so many read the rules, they neglected to see (subject to change) right after the finalists part as it does after the dates part it states (subject to change), READ them again, line for line and you will see for yourself, i mean those of you that are whining , how do you even know that it was or wasn't your name picked?? you don't !!!, HGTV, i don't know why you guys even bother, folks are so greedy and selfish and yes just plain dumb, i entered every contest, the DIY one every day, but after today, reading a few of these greedy, non reading the actual rules poeople, they can have my chances of winning anything, because i no longer want to enter, as far as ratings dwindleing, i also wonder just how many of these entries actually watch your shows?? i watched one last night, about a couple that had thier home moved to new orleans, then another show about different kinds of homes, one being round completely round with a ginormous green house in the back of it, no i'm not a loyal devoted viewer, but yes i do watch from time to time, my brother started me on watching it, people be grateful for what you have, first you still can be the one that was picked, regardless of how the random pick was done, it is a GIVE AWAY, cost none of you a thing, maybe some time entering, a few stamps, But it is a GIVE AWAY, appreciate that, for those of you that continue to whine, would you like some cheese to go with it??? Lisa..
Posted by Lisa Barnard – May 22, 2008 12:27 PM
Hey guys - I'm swamped today, and wish I had more time to play, but I'll answer what I can. :)
-The winner hasn't yet been notified; we don't do that in the online department, so I'm not sure when it will happen. Rest assured, if you won, you'll know before the show airs on Sunday, June 8, at 8/7c. :)
-Don't get the HGTV Green Home Giveaway confused with the HGTV Get More Green Giveaway. We drew the potential winner for the house already, but the HGTV Get More Green winners won't be drawn until sometime after the giveaway closes today at 5/4c (and I don't know exactly when that drawing will happen). Go enter for your chance to win while you still can!
-I can't elaborate on the way the winner is chosen, not because I don't want to, but because our legal department has placed limits on what we can say about it. But it truly does give everyone an equal chance to win, no matter whether you mailed in your entry or emailed it.
Thanks guys! Tune in on Sunday, June 8, at 8/7c to find out who won, then come back to Green Home Central on Monday morning to hear the winner answer your questions!

I love when you get onto the site and come to blogs...it says "are you the winner?"
Of course, I, just like many of you have come by everyday and entered for my chance to win.
But, honestly? I believe we are ALL winners. It sounds like many have made drastic changes in their lives, and I know some people who may have not practiced this as much..or really understood this concept have become more aware of the importance in these issues.
I think we are all truly winners because we have become involved in the change and the hope for the future!!
Congratulations on the big winner!! and thanks again to all involved at HGTV!

I HAVE LOOKED AT THE GREEN HOUSE A THOUSAND TIMES AND EACH TIME I SEE SOMETHING I DIDN'T SEE BEFORE.
I TRIED TO ENTER EVERYDAY SOMETIMES IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE.
I REALLY HOPE I'M THE WINNER BUT IF I'M NOT
I REALLY WANT THE WINNER TO KNOW HOW LUCKY THEY ARE.
FIRST OF ALL THIS IS THE GREATEST PLACE IN THE WORLD TO LIVE.
THE SAND AND THE SALT AIR, THE WEATHER, IT'S ALL GREAT.

I would be so happy if I actually won the beautiful home, but winning the Sears and Kohler gift certificates would be just as great. So to everyone who entered, I want to wish them the best of luck, and I'll be watching Sunday, June 8 to see who the winner is. I just hope they are more excited then the last winner for the Florida home.
Posted by Mary McCoy – May 23, 2008 10:36 AM
Thanks to HGTV for the opportunity you have given us viewers to win such
A beautiful green home and for teaching us all about being “green” and more
Eco-friendly. I truly believe in conservation and I do my part, but can always do more.
I honestly hope that I win. I know that my husband is probably tired of me
Talking about the home because I talk about it everyday. I tell him how amazing and wonderful it would be for us to win. We would give the hybrid to our daughter in college that would help her with the gasoline prices all the while she is helping the environment.
Would like to wish everyone good luck, but am honestly praying that my family wins this one since everything about it is perfect – the location-the “green aspect”- the color-just everything. Will be waiting for the doorbell to ring!!! If not, maybe the prizes from Sears and Kohler. Again Good luck and God bless everyone.

I love this house, this would be a dream come true for anyone, I have had several dreams of being in this home, and everything about this home would fit my family like a glove, I can see my son running up those stairs and loving his new space and really having that feeling of comfort of being in our own home, we have never owned our own home, we have been renting for years, so to walk through that front door everyday and have the great feeling of our first home as home owners would certainly be a blessing,It's nice to dream and hope that we are the winner, I'll keep dreaming and wish all good luck, hope we are the new home owners of this beautiful Green Home, I would be so proud, thanks for the opportunity HGTV, thanks and god bless..........

Why wasn't a wind genorater installed at the Green House? With the economy the way it is, everyone could use the free energy.

LISA: You need to Calm Down. You are so judgmental of everyone. And, could you please stop pushing your religion within every other comment you make? Making references to God and what we should all appreciate! Who are YOU?? I'm a Christian myself, however, I do not push "the word" onto people. Everyone is entitled to their comments and opinions. So, Lisa - quite Judging! AND...Get A Life...All of You! I come on this site everyday to "Play the Game", because HELLO...that's all this is. The chances of you actually winning are about as close as playing a world lottery! I have only checked onto this blog once or twice. And, each time I have I find that you people seem to be obsessed with this. Do you people actually work for a living? Do you have "real" friends? Or just HGTV blogger friends? Do you have actual hobbies? Family? Get a Life!!!

Dear HGTV, I watch your show everyday. I never watch anything else, except the travel channel. I do hope and pray I have won the green home. I do not have my own home. I live with my daughter. I am sure she would like for me to win the home. I have two grandchildren who would love to live in Hilton Head. I will be in Myrtle Beach for a week.. Will I still get the home if I am at the beach with my grandchildren for a week? If I win, I will not have to go home. That would be so awesome. My grandchildren could stay all summer. Thanks for such a wonderful opportunity. Only in a country ,our wonderful USA, could a dream like that ever come true. You are wonderful. God bless you. Have a great summer. Sherrie

Dear Green Home: I haven't heard from you yet, does that mean that I have not won? Are you waiting to surprise the winner? You have my address and I will be home all memorial weekend so feel free to drop by anytime!!!
I have truly loved watching the green home come to life, now all it needs is for me to make it a home, and with seven kids and five grand-kids that wont take too long!
God Bless You All, God Bless You Winner, I sincerely hope that you truly needed this home and that it is a life changing opportunity for you. Thanks Green Home for all the fun and you can bet you will see me here next year!

Oh Boy Oh Boy Oh Boy, the winner hasn't been notified yet!!! I still have a chance at the blessing of a lifetime!!! I am saying my prayers and crossing my fingers, please let it be me!
I know there are many of us who have no hope of ever having our own homes, we just will never be able to afford to either because of health reasons or simply because we just don't make enough money.
I truly believe that God will bless those of us, maybe not today or tomorrow with the green home, but he will bless you in your life.
I wish I was the winner just like all of you, but I also hope that if I am not the winner is one who would never ever be able to buy their own home.
Thanks Green Home, I have had a ball and I will see you next year!

ANONAMOUS: Your infrequent (thank goodness) posts just reek of jealousy. Of what? Making new friends? Do you know what living green is all about? Do you pracice it? Do you even love the GREEN HOME? Do you ever watch HGTV's programs? Of course I know what the odds of winning this GREEN HOME are. Most of these bloggers are dreamers, but we also love "the game" as you put it. But when you criticize one of the most beloved of our friends, our claws come out. Please, either change your attitude or go away.
Posted by Katydid – May 23, 2008 5:47 PM
Has anyone been notified yet that they are the potential winner for the HGTV greenhome? Am I correct in saying someone posted that they know who the winner is, her name is Vanessa and she is in Philadelphia? Were you contacted?
Posted by Anonymous – May 23, 2008 8:30 PM
Angela and Dana, you guys are awesome, thank you. It would be so very thrilling to really be the winner, wouldn't it. And I would figure out a way to pay the IRS taxes if we did decide to move, but the hardest thing would be leaving two fabulous careers, all of our friends and our (small) extended family, and a church we love. But, we would look at it as God's blessing and maybe His directing our paths there. Especially considering the odds are like forty million to one. So, I'm not holding my breath, but good luck to you guys too!! Angela, one key to success in real estate...clients don't really care how much you know, they want to know how much you care. As in, are you in it for the long haul, you will help them make good choices, it is all about what is the best thing for them, not simply a commission in your pocket. To Anonymous... don't take offense, you have just as much right to express your thoughts as anyone else. The bloggers do seem to form attachments to each other, it is a very weird way to communicate, but interesting. I had never blogged until this house give away, and doubt I will after this, cuz I am too busy. Got hooked on hgtv while I was going through chemo and was too sick to do anything except lay around and watch tv. It does seem like many people spend a lot of time on these sites, but I have to say, this web site is a bit addictive, and an escape from reality, to dream about a different life. But, win or not, my life is incredible and blessed and it is not worth getting geeked over something like a blog when the reality is no one even knows who they are talking to, and the likelihood of actually winning and keeping this house are so minuscule. Best of luck to you, too, anonamous/anonymous

I was referring to one particular post, and yes deb, i should ignore it, but, i do not try to shove religion at anyone, the person(probably the same one that left the comment) about ratings dwindling, consulting a lawyer, that posted WHO ARE YOU??? I'm a good person, never thought or think that i'm above anyone, but to tell a company like hgtv how to GIVE something away is crazy, they don't have to give anything away, as far as calming down, i have, thank you very much, and being a CHRISTIAN as you say you are, you should also want to see the GOOD in everyone, i have posted on this blog from the get go, i have said many many times that we are all winners, you can either believe in the Lord or you don't, it's each of our's choice to do so, as far as winning that green home, i no longer want it or any of the other giveaways, i do not enter the DIY anymore, as far as being JUDGEMENTAL you can believe whatever you like but that i am not, i wanted that one post which was probably yourself to see how ridiculous she was being(she), thier are cyclone victims that have no homes, people in china that were buried under thier homes, school kids buried under thier schools, and then there is someone that is gonna whine about how a company GIVES something away, if you did not care for my post, well that's to bad, as kim stated we are all entitled to our say so, and you ask who I am??? someone you can't even compare to in heart, so you have yourself a good and blessed life fellow CHRISTIAN !, LISA BARNARD...Live, Love Laugh...p.s. thanks katydid, your a sweet heart without you and deb, i wouldn't have came back, but, you know what i will return and again like kim stated i'll give my opinions when i feel like doing so, everyone have a great memorial day weekend, i spent this holiday 5yrs ago going to my mother's funeral......

and for the posts,
that wonder if we all have a life, yes, i have a great life, i've cared for my paralyzed brother for 18yrs now, that's what i do every single day and have since sept 3rd 1990, so if i choose to take some time out for myself and come to this blog and post my comments with people i have become close friends with and it doesn't matter if they live next door, or at the top corners of the map, east, south, west, north i have found some nice good hearted friends, and it is possible to someday meet face to face, i'm surely not what one would call GEEKED over it, i've enjoyed blogging thank you kim, could really care less about winning, i have much better luck at bingo, and when i'm talking/blogging to my friends on here I DO KNOW who i'm talking to, thank you very much, FRIENDS, i'm glad we are all entitled to our opinions, have a pleasant day....

Katydid...Yes, in answer to your ?'s. I do practice Green everyday...way before it was the "cool" thing to do. And, my favorite channel is HGTV..I'm an interior designer. And, yes, it's fun to "dream". But, it seems as if the 5 ? of you talk about the same thing over and over and need a reality check...NO jealously here...believe me. You're too funny. And, don't worry...I have a very busy life, so I won't be keeping tabs on you very often.
Kim, you are the one refreshing person out of the five ? of you. Not just because of your "non-judgmental" response to this current blog, but other's I have read as well. And, I'm very happy to hear that you came through chemo and had the help of a channel like HGTV to make life not so boring in the process. Good luck to you too! That's all this takes ...luck.

Not one entrant for say "complained" about the Green Home. The way the Grand Prize winner was determined was misleading in the Contest Rules. I don't personally waste my time, effort, and money on Sweepstakes that only have One winner. The chances are slim to none. On the otherhand, if it says there will be finalists (with an S, meaning more than one), then I feel it is worth my time. Just to clarify any misunderstanding the die hard bloggers and MBers might have!

Kim, I'm so sorry to hear that you had cancer! Is it all gone now? How long ago was this? If you don't want to talk about it I understand. I wish you good health!
Posted by Dana Dryburgh – May 24, 2008 11:01 PM
Some of you people really need to find a hobby.
It is ONE drawing. Your odds are slim to none. In fact, your odds of winning a state lottery are even higher. There were over 50 million entries into this year's other HGTV drawing. Even if you entered 1,000 times online and through the mail, your odds are slim.
Get over it. Who cares if people are selfish? Who cares who won? You didn't, so let whomever it is enjoy their day.

i always wanted to win a house...not because it because i am lazzy and i dont want to work hard to pay of a mortgage.I am willing to work 2 or 3 jobs if i have to.But i worked 2 jobs while i was in school and paid my way through school and also worked very hard after graduating with a pretty good degree in the heath professional field. But then i made the stupid mistake of buying a house and after a few weeks of buying the house i realized the house had serious foundation problems and i fell in to a depression for the last 7 years.I suffer from manic depression and ocd all because someone cheated me out of a chance to live a happy life.I still live in the same house and everyday i am reminded of the stupid mistake i have made.It was hard to pay mortgage on a house ($1660/month) and u dont even like the house. My ocd prevents me from working too much and also have a real problem trusting people.I always enter the hgtv giveaway thinking that god would give me a break. But i dont think i should get it because of my situation because there are so many people out there with worse stories like the people in china and mynmar and so many others.but i just pray everyday that i may win so ican stop working because it is so painful for me to work with the OCD.

Hey all, just want to put my 2 cents in. I say don't give it the time of day, and let us get back to our postives. That person is trying to push buttons and it's working. Don't let them.
We will keep doing what we have been doing and having fun, as long as we can. Doesn't mean we don't have a life,as a matter of fact, it means we do, because we enjoy people, so again, ignore it. Yes Lisa, we have met some good people on this blog. They far outweigh the other. Yes, we just may meet in person someday, you never know, I have always been adventurous, I may stop by LA some day. Kim, Dana, Marie Miller, birdlover, and Southern Lady, and Katydid, Charlene, thanks to all of you, and to everyone else who has enjoyed this (as Lisa put it) 'GIVEAWAY'. We will know soon enough, and then we will find another blog to chat on. Take care all, and Happy Memorial Day. And Lisa, again, you are an awesome lady.

I don't care, wish they both would be NICE and LEAVE us FELLOW BLOGGERS alone, asking us if we have a life!! Thanks Marie,
for the heads up about(IT) being a presense on the Dream Home blog, i enjoyed it last year, but knowing that it is tainted, i'll find something else to do with my spare time, maybe i'll go find a life or something, seeing how i don't have one and all, hey, I did win the state lottery, maybe not all 6 numbers but i did win a piece of it, Just 2 more weeks everyone and we'll see who did win the Green Home, Deb and Katydid i hope and pray one of ya'll get it, or one of the other giveaways, you two deserve it, next weekend my brother and I will be selling 28acres that our father left us, It's quite a hefty sum, maybe we could get together and do lunch, my treat, I don't fly, so you guys ever been to Louisiana? deb i know you lived in La before, what about you Katydid? I'd say we'd check out New Orleans or maybe Baton Rouge, I've been to both places, right now Baton Rouge would be the best pick, by the 2nd of june the land will be sold, i'll keep in touch with you two about it, i mean anything is possible, i'll be the first one to prove that, lunch and a few nights in a nice hotel on me,and meeting one another face to face, take care friends, Lisa...

Dear anonamous and Dana...first anon. I wouldn't really say I am one of the "five" although I do read and comment on what is said, but they all seem to be "friends" with each other. I would love to be an interior designer. Maybe I can pick your brain. I actually have my "dream house" but have had to try and decorate it on a tight budget. Maybe you can recommend a color to tie what I am trying to work with. My color choices are autumn shades, my kitchen walls are a deep golden color a little bit on the brown side, and my den is a deep rich red, not bright red, not maroon, but a deep dark red and white. I would like to add a pale sagey-sorta green color in the living room, between these two rooms. The LR is rather large, at least thirty feet, maybe more, but I do not want to paint and then hate it or have it not look good. Any suggestions? Dana..I am doing great, I was 46 when diagnosed, and it was a year of hell going through everything but I am doing great, my faith helped get me through some rough times and being told I was terminal... a story in itself, but I am healed now, and doing great.
I think the people on this site and on these blogs find it so interesting because it is an escape from reality, it is the hope of a better life or even a different life. It is the dream of something better for their family. Everyone needs hope, and everyone dreams of owning their own home but for many, a home like this is out of their reach, and for so many it would truly be a dream come true. So any of the people have such tragic lives and it would be so wonderful if something could be done to build some very affordable houses that could actually be kept by the winners and bless some of these folks. Something like an HGTV version of Habitat for Humanity
Posted by kim – May 25, 2008 10:20 PM
Hi--This is my first post and have to wonder what most people here are thinking. The bottom line is this: Most people do not have the $$$ to pay the taxes for this giveaway (we're talking in the neighborhood of $225,000). And these taxes will be due within a year of winning. Every past winner on HGTV has had to sell their homes. But, it's still a WONDERFUL gift. You can sell the house (and car as well) and purchase a more modest one (and one you would own outright).
But, more importantly is the INSPIRATION each of us should be taking away from this. This is more about winning a house or a new car. It's about learning new ways to live in harmony with Mother Earth. I have been living primarily "green" for over 12 years and I am so happy to see more and more attention being directed toward this. A big THANK YOU goes out to HGTV for turning more people onto the "green scene" :-)
Lastly, it's only natural to want to win. We all do. So, be positive, hold onto your dreams, keep your eyes on the prize (whatever you choose it to be), but don't forget to count all you blessings, even the small ones. *Peace

This post is for Matthew,
I know things will get better for you, I'm sorry that you are having such a tough time right now, but if you keep your chin up and look to the Lord, you will be better for it, he may not help you out right away, but, eventually if you keep the faith, your troubles will ease up, one of my favorite sayings is to reach up, aim high for those stars and you just might grab a hold of one, as for the person that cheated you, and you have not been happy since, they will be dealt with, in time, you can't go around hurting folks and get away with it, i know you probably will never forget that person, but the first step to improving your life is to forgive that person, rest assured they will have to answer someday, keep the faith matthew and your life will get so much better, and please Be Happy, Lisa...

Did any of you watch the 10 most amazing kitchens? i just did, and WOW, they all are simply gorgeous, my favorite was #3, because of the space and the pizza oven, The Family Room Kitchen, i could fit half my house in that kitchen, and my kitchen is the size of most of the islands in the kitchen's two people can't get around in my kitchen ha, my mother never cared for it either, she use to say that it was the only part of her home that she didn't like, i just seen a commercial about the green home giveaway, yahooooo, have a great day to you all, Lisa...

First of all, I would like to say thank you to ALL VETERANS out thee in bloggerland. I for one am grateful for your sacrifices so that we may all live in the greatest country in the world. Happy Memorial day!!!
LISA...,FYI...sorry to disappoint you but I am not anonymous/anonamous. I would never tell anyone to get a life, especially considering that I myself a a bit obsessed with this website. Nor do I harbor any negative feelings towards anyone who has chosen to blog here. It is great that you feel you have made friends on this bog, and I respect that. My opinion is that I (personally) have no idea who it is that is on the other end of the computer...cyberspace does not come with identities. We could all be blogging from work, from our homes, even from prison. We may sign our "names" and everyone assumes it is a woman writing but that is not accurate either. Even on line male predators pretend to be teenage girls. While everyone here on these sites seems to be nice and loving the idea of winning a dream home, (who wouldn't be?) the fact remains that as far as I am concerned, I have no idea who is out there, but guaranteed, I'm not anonamous.

Hi Everyone, isn't it a lovely day. Here in Tucson it is anyway, it's only 9:10 am and it is already 67 degrees. Love it. I hope all of you have a great Memorial day. I will spend it packing, I'm moving next weekend, can hardly wait. You know, I've been reading all of the post here, and I say ignore the nasty ones, if no one replies to them, then they get no satisfaction out of hurting someone. That is the purpose of their blogs is to hurt people. Katydid, Dana, deb, Southern Lady and Lisa, I sincerely hope one of you wins this great home, but, I wish everyone good luck. Including me, but, if I don't then I know that God has something better for me down the road. I truly believe that He watches out for each of us who believe and trust in Him as our Lord and Saviour. And, if I should win this beautiful home, all of you are welcome to come for a visit. As far as that goes, if I don't win, and you are ever in Tucson, please feel free to stop by for a visit here. Let me know and I will give you my address. My email is barbrale2000@yahoo.com. So any time. Everyone have a great day, and see you at the House.

Hey LISA, first let me apologize if my thoughts and opinions and my blogging on this site are stealing your joy!!! I WILL honor your request that I not blog on this site again, because I do not ever want to cause offense to anyone, whether I have met them or not, but do not think for one second that I am also blogging as anyone else on this site. For all we know, you, too, could be blogging under several names. Second, I do know how very challenging it can be to be a caregiver, so I say to you...best of luck in winning this dream home... it so would be perfect for your brother because it should be easily adaptable for handicap accessibility. And, you deserve to have something great happen in your life, and in all honesty, We built our "dream home" three years ago, after making it through my cancer. So, to all you other bloggers (which seem more like a chat room than a blog) best of luck to you, and to Angela, again, here's to a great real estate career, best of luck, and you will own your home home one of these days.career.

One last comment, LISA...not only am I not anonamous/anonymous, there is also more than one kim on this HGTV blog. to DEB...I also want to say that I hope I did not offend you with my questions about the "cross". I do agree with everyone who said the cross is a beautiful symbol of Christianity, and what is represents. Also. to be able to make a stained glass window is very impressive, I wish I had the talent and ability to do such artsy things, I have a client who makes them and they are incredible. Best of luck and prayers for you to have a chance at winning also. OK, no more blogging for me.

I 've tried to change the subjest a couple of times, you know get it on a brighter note, as far as you go kim, you have every right to post your thoughts, but i have felt like you seem to analyze why the rest of us do, and you and anoymous which should atleast post who she/it really is seem to think we have nothing better to do with our lives, thats why we come to the blog, but, yet you guys are doing the same exact thing, so if you think that a blog is nothing more than a chat line, well in many ways that is what it is, what is wrong with any of us coming here to post, comment, most important GET ALONG?? i really don't see any difficulty in that, i made one comment to someone about ther whinning, and got nothing but ragged about it, mocked in several of the post, i will stand up for myself and that's a fact, my father served 28yrs in the United States Army and he did not raise any one of us(6) to bow our heads and put up with crap out of anyone, he raised his kids to be TOUGH, so, if i've offended anyone Sorry, my post was meant for one person and one person only, and, i started entering the DIY contest again, because, i deserve to win just like anyone else, if i win, i plan on sharing it with my friends here on the blog/chat line, Lisa...

ANONAMOUS: I'm really behind in reading this blog, but thanks for answering my questions. An Interior Designer...how lucky are you! My first love are floor plans (I collect them). We once had a small basementless 2 bedroom, l bath ranch. I designed plans for a remodel, had an architech draw up blueprints and hired a contractor. Ended up with 3 bedrooms, 1 and 1/2 bathrooms, new kitchen, dinette, and a huge family room w/firplace. The previous large utility room containing the furnace, laundry and storage ended up in the core of the house, and was the only room that didn't have a window. So I made a French door and when my Dandy had her litter, I could just close the bottom half of the door and let her have private time with the pups while keeping an eye on them. There were already two steps down to the breezeway and when the large family room was added two more steps were also included. The kitchen opened up to view the FR with a long counter with bar stools just below. This home was perfect for entertaining. When we hosted our holidays (Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, etc.) I would add leaves to our table (which extended into the living room) to seat 12 to 14 people. I was so happy to do this because our parents were too old to host anymore and I loved to see the old guys sitting on the bar stools, laughing, singing and telling jokes, while the women were hugging the grandkids (oldest son was two when the addition was built and the twins came 2 years later).
Sorry this had gotten so long.
Anona: I'm glad you think I'm funny. Remember Lisa B's, motto: Live, Laugh, Love. Being a comidiene on stage, my greatest purpose was to make the audience laugh, and boy, did I do that. When the LOWS in life hit you, and if they haven't yet, they will, remember the good times, and this was one of my best.

I would assume the winner has been notified by now. So, I am being realistice to say I am not a winner. Oh well...at least we can win a smaller prize. And God still loves me!

Kim, I wish you would keep blogging! I do not think you are anonymous/anonamous! I can see the difference in how you speak and how that person speaks! I'm glad to hear that your doing good now and I hope it remains that way!

Everyone, If we all are nice to one another and don't call anybody names then we can all get along! Isn't that what Jesus would do? Isn't that what it means to be a Christian?

HGTV, I'm still hoping I get a phone call,e-mail,letter, or see you in person!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck Everyone!
It is so nice to know they have not notified the winner yet! At least I do not think they have. So we are all still in the running. I know God ultimately will be the one making the decision and I know that the person who wins will be the one who is supposed to have this wonderful home. Of course, I hope it is me just like everyone else!
Good luck to every one of you and let's all keep our fingers crossed! What a wonderful opportunity for someone!

please stop talking about jesus, "isn't that what jesus would do?", christianity, god, and the winner being chosen by god to win...it's a freaking contest people. it's luck. it has nothing to do with god. it's a random drawing. anyways, it's not very "christian" to push your beliefs on everyone on this blog. i'm sure there are people from several denominations on this blog who don't talk about their religious preferences, so please stop talking about yours.

Hey Katydid, i enjoyed reading about your blueprints, do you still have this home? and what is a breezeway? i dunno, just curious as to what that is, yes dana, i agree that we should all get along, boy, i'll tell you i made one comment about something and all h-ll broke loose, surely didn't mean for some people to take offense, just the one i posted about, and if i had it all to do over again, i wouldn't change it, i said how i felt, like so many others, than it's time to move on, but i kept getting additude from whoever anoymous is, and as deb said i did allow it to push my buttons, when i should have overlooked it, the bigger and better person would do just that, i hope that we all can finally get past it, i surely will never bring any of it up again, i've just balled it all up and have thrown it over my shoulder, enough is enough, i'm done, from the past giveaways they(hgtv) usually have contacted someone by now, the winter park dream home winner's son knew 3 weeks ahead of time, i dunno, there is still hope i reckon, none of us know, i try to stay off the computer because if i'm on, then my phone will just ring off the hook, if i'm chosen, i've thought real hard about putting a few of ya'lls name in a hat, picking one and signing over the title to whoever i pick, my brother and i are fixing to come into some real good money and i really don't need the home, would like to check it out though, take a long well deserved vacation in it, but that's about it, i've always wanted to park my boots in arkansas, why? i'm not sure, take care everyone, Lisa...Live Love Laugh

Hey Sarah, when I say God Bless You All, I am not trying to push my beliefs on anyone. In fact, simply saying God Bless does in no way tell you what, how, or when I practice religion or even if I do.
Stop trying to make a federal case out of someone wishing others the best of luck and blessings.
Do not make this a religious issue, since the statement was simply meant to convey my best wishes to everyone.
Thanks HGTV for all the memories and for a wonderful time. Thanks to all the bloggers who have kept me entertained and yes still hopeful. Whats wrong with that?
I love that the majority of people who blog here are wonderful and kind people who wish nothing but the best for the rest of the bloggers.
I have had a great time here, and although I don't know everyone I feel that we are all very down to earth people who know the chances of winning aren't really great, but have the faith to keep trying.
I will be here trying again and again. Thanks everyone and God Bless You All.

HGTV
Thank you for making my life exciting during the duration of sweepstakes. Every am I submitted the entry before going to work and checked the house video.
There is still hope for everyone, I guess. Who ever won it you are blessed.
Take care and good luck.

Does anyone have any idea what area code HGTV would be calling from? I have gotten two phone calls from a 213 area code but no VM, I am sure it is not HGTV but it seems weird for that area code (think it is CA) to call me here in IL. I am probably reaching here, but you never know! I think HGTV headquarters is in TN, so this is probably not the HGTV calling? Anyone have an idea?

to dana dryburgh...how presumptious of you to assume that everyone on this blog is a christian? you people need to stop bringing religion in to this. it has nothing to do with the contest. please stop it.
Posted by tom – May 28, 2008 7:52 AM
lisa barnard...you are full of it! i don't believe you for a second that you would hand over the title to someone else if you won. get real. i'm so tired of some of the people on this blog acting like martyrs in a sad attempt to win...sucking up to hgtv won't get you the green home!

SARAH, My comment was to individuals who in past comments have professeed to be Christians. Hence the comment," isn't that what Jesus would do?" and " isn't that what it means to be a Christian?" My comment was in NO WAY in regards to this CONTEST. Yes ,I do know it is a CONTEST and I don't believe God or LUCK for that matter have anything to do with this CONTEST!I believe the people I was talking to know who they are and you clearly are not one of them. If you don't like my comment then simply go on to the next one! Oh, and by the way, your comment about luck is one of your beliefs that not everyone shares but you posted it anyway!

What is wrong with you people??? You are the biggest group of catty, condescending, over-zealous, hate-mongering people I have EVER encountered all in the name of the possibility of getting something free. Every battle is not meant to be fought, so if someone generally says “God Bless You” or “What would Jesus do”, is it really necessary to tear them a new one? You do know that it’s not all about you…right??? And in my opinion, yes I said IT… IN MY OPINION, as petty and lofty as some of you are acting, there is perhaps a need for you to believe in some Being higher than yourselves to add a morsel of humility to your lives. Last time I checked this blog is open to the public, therefore the cliques formed here should launch your own agnostic cyber hangout and allow the inalienable right of “freedom of speech” to prevail. If God is what you believe in you have that right, if you believe in leprechauns or the big bang theory or little green men you have that right too. However, if by chance a person says something to identify themselves as Christian that is not an open invitation to convert you – it just is what it is, likewise, if a person does not identify a belief does not necessarily mean they’re non-believers. Please people – We need to do better than this!

I am a little confused by the rules and the outcome. It seems to me that the rules indicate that three people will be notified and then asked to appear on a show where the grand prize winner will be chosen.
The announcement seems to say that a winner has been chosen. Anyone care to clarify?
Posted by Mikal – May 28, 2008 11:11 AM
This is the most entertaining blog.

Here we go again,
another idiot on the blog, don't think for one second, that i give a damn what you think JANE DAVIS and as far as sucking up to anyone, piss off brat, i'll give away my last dollar to a friend to a stranger, you know nothing about me and my heart, i do not wish to reside in south carolina, i hope and pray that hgtv calls me, just so i can show your stupid a$$ and whomever else is watching just how fast i'd sign it over, as i said i want to live in arkansas, sucking up to hgtv, ha ha ha funny very funny, what do they have to do with what i choose to do with it once i've won it?? NOTHING, i offered my home free and clear to a fellow blogger, some of you people are just to damn stupid, and for those of us that want to mention GOD we will, if you don't like it GET LOST, cause in fact, sad to say, if it bothers you to hear God's name being mentioned, your more than likely LOST anyhow, as posted here recently, my father left my brother and myself over 100 acres, 28 of which just sold, so with a lump sum of my own coming real soon, i don't have to SUCK UP TO ANYONE, HA HA HA HA so very dumb you are ms. jane davis, besides, idiot, i'm pretty sure it's already been given away, winner notified, you are a pitiful soul, yes you are, Lisa...Live Love Laugh...............
Posted by Lisa Barnard – May 28, 2008 2:23 PM
Dana
i can remember when this was a nice pleasant upbeat blog, but i reckon all the roaches have come out of the wood work, do like deb said and ignore the brats, i just had to bark at one of the bratty idiots for questioning whether i would give this home away, but, God and yes brats i'm mentioning(GOD) he knows my heart, if i want to say the Lords name after every other word i'll do so and be a much better person for it, if i want to give away anything that I OWN i will do so, as far as winning, i realy belive the winner has been notified, so i guess by being nice and offerring the home if i were the winner to say deb, katydid, yourself, birdlover, than i'm a suck up, please roaches go back into the wood work where you belong, you heartless beings have ruined this blog tainted it with hatred and ignorance, you may get away with it on this page, but your stupid words/thoughts/posts/actions will get you sooner than you think again GOD says vengence is mine, GOD GOD GOD GoD, don't like to hear his name TOO DAMN BAD BRATS !!!!!! your just gonna have to deal with it on THIS BLOG......
Posted by Lisa Barnard – May 28, 2008 2:41 PM
Good Job jane davis...you took the words right out of my mouth. Its almost sickening to read some if these posts. If you win you win GOD had nothing to do with it and personal tragedy has nothing to do with winning. You justy happened to be in the right place at the right time
Posted by Greg – May 28, 2008 2:42 PM
dana...if your blog was directed towards certain people, then you all should have your own chat room. this is a blog, not a back and forth chat room. if i don't like your comment, i am allowed to say something. you and your blog "groupies" jump all over other people. and saying that it's luck if you win is not a "belief" that i'm pushing on other people. this is a contest, like a lottery. there are odds. it's a game of chance. it is by pure luck if you get chosen...no higher being is responsible for your winning...and stop writing in all caps. it's annoying.
Posted by sarah – May 28, 2008 2:43 PM
I'm gonna say one more thing about GOD, i truly believe that everything in this life that we live has to do with GOD, It's not JUST LUCK, if the winner of this home or anything, wins, i believe that YES God had a hand in it, everything happens for a reason, without GOD none of us would be here, without God giving his only son, none of us would have life, If we choose to believe, we will not be ridiculed for it, you brats may put down your pitiful posts not liking it, that is your choice, and a stupid choice at that, no one has turned this blog into a religous blog, if we want to say God Bless to each other WE WILL, and none of you brats have to like it, just like us believers don't like your idiotic posts, DEB, i've been wondering why you don't post anymore, i understand now, it's best to distance ourselfs from malicious comments like the last several roaches/brats have left, one things for sure, in ragging on just the mention of God's name, none of these beings will ever be a winner of anything, sad, but i sense many LOST SOULS on here, glad they were not here from the beginning, that in itself is a BLESSING, lisa... GOD BLESS TO ALL THE BELIEVERS,
Posted by Lisa Barnard – May 28, 2008 3:06 PM
tom, I can assure you that I NEVER assume anyone is a Christian unless I hear them say so themselves!! My comment was not directed to literally everyone. It was to certain individuals who in pass comments stated they were Christians. I hope this clears up any misunderstanding. Is it o.k. to say " I hope everyone has a good day?"
Posted by Dana Dryburgh – May 28, 2008 4:17 PM
Lisa Barnard, PLEASE take a deep breath, count backwards from 100 and think positive thoughts! PLEASE do not waste your time commenting to jane davis!!!!! She doesn't know you and you won't change her mind so don't bother! O.k.? Have a good day!!
Posted by Dana Dryburgh – May 28, 2008 4:44 PM
ooops i must be in the wrong place... thought this blog was about the green home contest, clearly it a blog for people who want to bicker back and forth....now where is that darn green home blog.....?

Hold on Everybody, the nasties are here and trying their best to provoke us. Don't let them push your buttons.
LISA B. Reading my post I was embarrassed to realize it was all about me, and not about the GREEN HOME. To answer your question, a breezeway is a small space, usually enclosed, from the garage to the house, because it's on the same level as the garage, two steps are needed to get to the level of the house (without a basement). In MI we have very cold winters, and appreciate that protection. I am so happy to hear that you might have some money soon. Please invest it wisely for your old age. I don't believe any of my beloved blogger friends will win the GH, the odds are too great. I thank HGTV for this marvelous opportunity to dream green (the home is so perfect, I wouldn't change a thing), and learn how to live green.
Trying not to offend anyone, I will say may the "higher power" bless you, and if you don't believe that, good luck.

Well, if you didn't join (myunclestan.com) for the HGTV Green Home then, you better do so for the 09 HGTV Dream Home and the BLOG CABIN GIVEAWAY. There's hope for those of us who can't afford the taxes and we don't have to get a loan from a bank.

I wonder if the winner HAS been notified. Knowing before June 8 doesn't mean it has to be long before. I'm still hopeful and will continue looking for the affidavit in the mail!!! Good luck to everyone on both contests!!

lisa barnard...wow, not very christian of you to say such hateful things...you really should take the proceeds from the 100 acres that you received and seek therapy.
Posted by jane davis – May 29, 2008 10:32 AM
to katydid, dana, and lisa...who are you to judge me? actually, i happen to be a spiritual person with good morals. for you to imply that i'm not christian and to refer to me as a "roach/brat/idiot" for requesting that god not be mentioned throughout these blogs is just ludicrous. my problem is that there are good people that may not have the same beliefs as you, so out of respect for them, the word GOD or JESUS shouldn't even surface in a blog about a green home contest. it's just not right. it's people like you that turn people away from religion. one person disagrees with you and you all attack and say hateful things. i don't think jesus would have done that, do you?...and lisa, they have medication for that.

Hi everyone, When GOD wants to bless someone, you will get your blessings, thats how powerful our GOD is. He can make it happen when he is ready for you to be blessed. All you can do, is to enter and pray that it may be you. It's no reason to blame anybody for you not winning. Trust in GOD and I assure you, he will eventually come through for you. Be peaceful and patient.
Posted by Darlene – May 29, 2008 11:09 AM
Lisa, As far as giving the home away, even if you win and give the home to charity, YOU are responsible for the IRS taxes of $250,000 to $275,000. You can only deduct 20% of the value per year when you make a charitable contribution of this magnitude. So, not only can most people not afford to even keep the home, neither can they win it and give it away.
Posted by anon. – May 29, 2008 11:37 AM
sarah, you are commenting to me again. I guess that means we should have our own chat room according to your rules! You are most certainly allowed to post your opinions! The same as the rest of us are! If your going to accuse me of JUMPING ALL OVER OTHER PEOPLE then tell me on what dates and times I did this! Further more ,you do believe in luck and you posted that belief! I don't believe in luck but I didn't JUMP ALL OVER THE OTHER PEOPLE here that do!! There are people here that are JUMPING ALL OVER OTHER PEOPLE but I am not one of them !And just for the record I know this a CONTEST and I know what a CONTEST is!

of course whoever I choose to give the home to(which is already been given away) but, they would be resposible for any taxes as they would be if they had won, the vehicle i would keep for my self, but the home is already gone, come on people why must you keep on with this B.S. this use to be a good blog untill the latter of you came aboard, as far as therapy, just doing good things in life is therapy enough for me, but when a idiot, someone that knows nothing about me says that i'm a suck up and they don't believe for one second that i would GIVE something away, to me that person is a idiot, christian or not, your still stupid, the regular people on this blog from the beginning did not jump all over one another, it's just happened recently since the brats have discovered the blog, one of my best friends a single mom of 3, one year had no car, no christmas tree and no presents, i took her shopping, i bought her a christmas tree, lights, bulbs and presents to go under the tree, and last year when i purchased my new car, instead of trading my old one in on my new one, which the dealer was gonna give 6,000 off my new car, i chose to GIVE that car to my friend, free and clear, now i know most folks wouldn't do something like that, but, most folks are greed
