While we're waiting for June 8 to roll around -- when we'll finally hear who won the 2008 HGTV Green Home and the Get More Green Giveaway -- let's have some fun. Who's been to the Lowcountry? Have you shared your pictures and memories with us yet?
Here are some of our pictures from the staff's trip to the HGTV Green Home in January. Even though it was cold the week we were there, it was beautiful. We had a great time playing tourist in Bluffton, Hilton Head and Savannah, all a short drive from Tradition Hilton Head, where the home is located.
Bluffton is a charming little town that's experiencing a renaissance. Their main street is coming back to life with galleries, shops and homes and we were delighted by its Church of the Cross, one of the oldest churches in the state.

Church of the Cross, Bluffton, S.C.
Here are some pictures of our other adventures:

Love this sign! This is a shop on River Street in Savannah

The Harbor Town lighthouse in Hilton Head

Beautiful, historic River Street in Savannah

A cold day at the beach is better than no day at the beach

Live oaks in Savannah, across the street from our former decorating editor's restaurant, b. matthews eatery (be sure to try the Fried Green Tomato sandwich)

Savannah's Waving Girl
We'd love to hear about your trip to the Lowcountry, both in the comments and at Your Trip to the Carolina Coast.

Oh my gosh, I feel this in my soul. I cannot explain it. It cannot be put in words. It is a feeling. The Church of the Cross, River Street, the beach and gulls, the oak trees. I belong in the south. I have only been to the low country of South Carolina twice, when my son was in the Marines. As I said before, it rained for 2 days straight, heavy rain, so the commencements were inside. He graduated from boot camp at Parris Island on my dads birthday, that was one proud grandpa, and momma. My dad was in WWII along with 2 of his brothers. One was wounded 3x in Germany, one was a dive bomber with the Marine Air Corp, a very elite group in WWII, he was hit by Japanese on his way to his target, plane on fire, continued on, dropped his bomb, then ditched his plane in the Pacific. They rescued him 2 days later, but he did die. 21 yrs old. Got a little off track there didn't I??? I don't have any pictures of the low country because my pictures were taken inside of the Marine ceremonies. I wish I could make some memories there, then I could send you some pictures. I love picture taking, and these pictures are so neat. Thank you for sharing these with us. It is absolutely beautiful, after all it is the south. I have Savannah on my 'bucket list'. I so want to see it. Take care all, and good luck. p.s. We went to a new church last year, one that we had heard so much about. I noticed right when we pulled in to park, no Cross anywhere, we went inside, no Cross anywhere. 1st and last time. I have a problem with that. This church was more like a broadway show, oh, it was packed. But give me the small guy who is in it because it's right. I am the same way with stores, restaurants, banks, etc. The American Dream, I will do my best to do my part. I would really like to open my own business in Tradition, it has been a thought. Yes, I am retired, but I don't want to just sit around. I would like to help the local economy. Thanks again HGTV for these new pictures.

Love the photos! I have not been to the Lowcountry unfortunately--but it is truly beautiful! I have frequently taken "virtual tours" of this area by looking at the great shots sent to HGTV by the viewers. One of my favorite books is "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil"--as much for the descriptions of amazing Savannah as for the story. I would love to live in this area of the country, so much amazing history and natural beauty.

The pictures bring a few memories to mind but traditional hilton head is breath-taking and a wonderful place to raise a family. Everyone knows each other there and everyone knows how to have a good time. The lifestyle is laid back and all the homes are beautiful. Even the roads are nice. The places to eat there are all delicious and perfect for when family comes into town. I am a student who is graduating on Saturday from The Catholic University of America. I have studied the effects of global warming and what is happening to our world. Hence, although its Mid-May in DC and it should be hot it was really cold the past two days in the low 50s...it does not make sense. It's not just recycling that we need to stay on top of, it's more than that. We have to follow a more 'green' lifestyle in general. I did not understand global warming until I saw with my own eyes what it was doing to our world and the worst is yet to come. I am jsut coming out of college and I go to Hilton Head frequently in the summer to admire it's beauty, and I fell in love with the island when I first laid my eyes on it. I recently got engaged and my future husband and I want a 'green' home to start a family in. We can pay rent but we wouldn't have dreamt of owning such a perfect home for our future together just yet. It would be a relief to get out of the city hustle and bustle and expensive/polluted/fast-paced people. I am going to culinary school in January in South Carolina a few miles from Hilton Head and its exactly where I want to begin my first restaraunt. Having a house for my future family would be a dream that I never thought would be realized. I have been entering my name in every single day and I hope I get the chance to create lifetime memories in that gorgeous home. Also if my friends and family see me in a green home and see how well it works, they might be prone to altering their homes for the environment as well. We need to take care of this planet, it's an essential resource for that we must no longer neglect. Action, action, action. Thank you for making my dream closer to reality and thanks for helping our big old planet out.

These pictures did not convey the sort of cold weather you were experiencing. Instead it felt warm and inviting.

There is nothing like being in Carolina in the morning. I look forward all year to waking up in Carolina one week a year when I rent a home on the coast to spend one glorious week with my family. Working all year up north in the Washington area makes that one week worth more than all the gold in Fort Knox. To appreciate the beauty of the ole south and the waterways of the shore line. I have enjoyed being apart of the HGTV green home project and I am sure the winner will love a vacation home as the Green Home for years to come with family and friends.

I hope you all have a wonderful wednesday,
I've been up all darn night, i dozed off once and was dreaming that i was in texas, looking for walmart, couldn't find it, so i woke up, now i got to go pick up my boyfriend and carry him to work, he can't drive cause he liked to bend his elbow to much, and got 4 dui's, 2 of which he was pulled off the road passed out, i told him he better be glad all that happened before we met, i have zero tolerance for drinking or driving drunk, now back in my younger days, i use to tie one on, but just can't stand the taste of any of it, i'm not quite sure why i chose to share this with you all, but any how, couldn't sleep cause my back was killing me, years of working in the mess hall here at ft.polk took it's toll on my poor back, had to do that plus care for my brother, after awhile all that heavy lifting destroys ones back, i know mines gone, no health coverage, and to have a mri it cost 1,600.00 cash, thats ridiculous, i'll just deal with it as i have for 8 years now, ok, enough about my problems, ms. kathy walters is one lucky ducky to take these pics and get to see the green house (my green house) just kidding, well, got to go take him to work, i'll be back, Lisa...

Fabulous pics! I can already see my family making a whole bunch of memories in these beautiful places.
Best of all, we can all pile into the Yukon together. There's even room for one more grandchild, so we can make Green Home (and Hybrid Yukon) memories for many years to come. It doesn't get much better than that.
Sure hope I win, but I'm praying for God's blessings on the winner, whoever (s)he may be,that they will be able to pay the taxes and keep it all.

Well, my 'bucket list' has been rearranged. Savannah has been moved to #1. I just toured some of the sites, and I so want to walk her streets and FEEL the history. I love history anyway, always have. The story of Florence Martus is very touching, (Waving Girl). But my first stop would have to be 'b. matthews eatery'. Could we have a table outside if one is available?? We want to breathe in our surroundings. That menu is awesome. So many good items to choose from. Wow! Ok, gotta go - dr's appt. More later ya'll. Take care. Love it.

Well,
today I looked at the dream house again and I want to thank HGTV for the opportunity to enter
and dream about this home. I would love to win this home and start a new life. I would love to quit teaching right now and build a new life in S.C. and a new business right in S.C. baking. I love the food of the south and want so much to leave Las Vegas as it is so big and unkind. I love the "Smiling Faces and beautiful places", of South Carolina. Good bye for now.

I'm back,
can't seem to stay away, i see where deb has been doing some research, i'm gonna check it out also, hope your doctor's appt went ok deb, I absolutely cannot wait untill the giveaway, it's about all i think about, if i should not be that random pick (BOO HOO) then that sears shopping spree sounds cool, i would buy my brother the biggest tv they have, he really wants a plasma, all he can do from his bed is watch tv and he uses his knuckles to operate his computer, but i also heard that plasma's do not last long, that it's better to get a high definition tv, i don't know, and of course i've always wanted to redo all the floors in my double wide with hardwood floors, i don't want to sound selfish, (sorry), maybe i'll win tonight's lottery with my fortune cookie numbers, then i'll help my blogging buddies out, now that sounds better, good day to you all, i'll be back, that's for sure, Lisa...

Hi everyone...It's Elizabeth from Virginia again, who is vacationing on Hilton Head Island (HHI) this week. We have been blessed to have vacationed here for 15 years. HHI is a family vacation we look forward to all year and it never disappoints! Most years we are joined by 2 other families (currently living in LA & CA.) Sea Pines is our favorite plantation because the ammenities are great and the bike paths are extensive. We plan for the families to meet for lunch at The Salty Dog on that first Saturday of the vacation week. We marvel at how the kids have grown and changed, while we adults are "just the same as last year!" A typical day begins with a walk or jog on the beach for the early risers. By 8 a.m., the tennis players are on the court for some friendly competition. Next a bike ride to the nature preserve, horse stables or Harbortown is in order. When the 12 of us ride, we are a bit of a sight all in a row! Afternoons are spent on the beach, in the water, playing horseshoes or tossing a football or just relaxing. We share cooking duty at dinner, so all of the mom's get a break. (Guys man the grill!) If it rains, it's a great excuse to hit one of the outlet malls nearby. Sometimes during the week we make a trip into Savannah or Beaufort. I never tire of touring these beautiful southern cities. The week goes way too fast! We always make plans to do it all again next year before we leave.

The mossy oaks, beach, palm trees, history, and charm of the south! Great pictures, kwalters! I haven't been to SC in years, but I do have this new fangled digital camera (my husband still points out all the features to me)... I think on our next trip I could take some very nice pictures and share them with everyone! Oh, to everyone that wants to use my husband's idea, he said he would be honored! Our daughters say they will do the same for us some day! Good luck to all!

I can see my family and grandchildren really enjoying and spending family times together in a beautiful home and special location.

Love for the Hilton Head and Bluffton Low Country became instantly embedded in my heart and soul the first time I visited. It is part of who I am and my family. For over twenty years we have been visiting this area and have had a desire to locate to this area. Every chance we get, we head down to this beautiful home away from home. If you have never visited this area before, you must see this unique and picturesque area of our beautiful country. It will truly change who you are. HGTV could not have chosen a more perfect location for their green home. Thank you HGTV for sharing this home and location with us. With some luck, maybe my family's dream will become reality due to HGTV. Whomever wins this beautiful low country green home should feel truly blessed to have such a wonderful home in one of the most unique locations in the USA. Thanks again HGTV. Paula.

Even tho I have never been to the east coast or seen the ocean, I love everything about it. Especially, the Carolina's, Maine, all of those areas. And, lighthouses! I, too, love lighthouses, but, never seen one. Someday, I am going to travel up and down the coast and take in every last sight there is. That is my dream vacation. But, first, alas, must come up with the money for a trip like that. It's pretty far from Tucson, to far to hike, lol. I even love sea gulls. I always thought they were ugly birds, but, one day on the way to walmart in Ypsi, there was a sea gull hurt in the outside lane of traffic. My daughter pulled over, and as we were going to help it another car drove over it, but, did not kill it. I went up to it and it let me fold in it's wings and pick it up. It never bit me, and let me look it over. It had a broken leg and it's wing was hurt. Someone else had pulled over and told us where there was an animial rescue in Howell, which was about forty miles away from us. But, we went back to my place and got a towel to wrap it in, drove to Howell. This bird was so beautiful and let me hold it all the way there with never a bite. But, when my daughter tried to rub it's head it would try to bite her. It stayed calm all the way there, except when a semi went by, then it got upset a little. When we called the rescue center the next day, they told us that it had died, probably from internal injuries. That was so sad, but, I got a first hand look at this little big bird, and it was beautiful and I think it was so good with me, because it knew that I was trying to help it. I was reminded up this when I saw the picture of the gulls on the beach. I have never thought of them the same again. Oh well, enough of the sad story, and everyone have a GREAT DAY~~~

Leaving Las Vegas sounds ideal to me. Not a great place to raise your children. My family needs a fresh start somewhere more family friendly and eco-friendly. A community where you can just drive your golf cart to do your errands is perfect. We have two young boys and that house is so perfect for us.My husband and my 6 yr.old son plays golf, and South Carolina is a dreamy place to be. Things happen for a reason, and whoever wins this Green Home,is meant to be,and very blessed.Goodluck everyone!

Hey all, I'm back again!! Just looking and dreaming. Lisa, you are the best. Hubby's back is getting bad too, so I can relate. The weather here doesn't help. When it gets really cold and/or damp the arthritis REALLY kicks in. That's why so many move 'SOUTH'!!!!. Oh, I would in a heartbeat. Louisianna sounds good, I cannot tell you how sweet of you that is, you can feel my heart can't you?? I really want to be near the ocean, at least driving distance. I do have good friends there. One in Bossier City, her daughter in Lake Charles, her son a Memphis Police Officer. Others in Waveland, MS. They got hit real bad in Katrina. Waveland was about wiped off the map. You know when I think about it, I have been so blessed. I have been through alot, and have come out on top. I have always lived my life that right is right. Stand up for what you believe, but I am a very low profile person. I love life, my family, my friends. And I have met so many wonderful people that I still keep in contact with. Dang girl, wish we could talk. See, I have made another friend. And I am a loyal friend. I am honest, hard working, faithful, and loyal. I obey and abide by the law. I would have loved to have been in law enforcement, but an early accident (knee surgery) kept me from that. Ok, I'll shut up!!! Take care all, good luck to everyone, love the pictures. Love it all.

I'm a southern girl without a doubt but married to a San Francisco guy who has fallen in love with the south. Thirty-five years later,we're a few years short of retirement with two grown sons and grandchildren in our future. We have been to Savannah several times on business and to Beaufort, SC just to enjoy. My heart and soul are happy here. My husband's grandfather lived in Savannah many, many years ago. We're "green" at heart and hope to set an example for future generations in Tradition Hilton Head. What a fabulous concept. A toast to a greener future in a beautiful, peaceful environment.

I was just looking over the rules and I didn't know that five potential winners are all going to try to win the green home.
I think I like the idea of someone just surprising me at home or something like that. I would just be so super disappointed and to have to be seen my millions of people like that would be terrifying to me.
Please consider this for next year, the feelings of those who flew all that way, just so you could build up the suspense. I am a very apathetic person and I always think about the feelings of others. I just think that I would be too frightened to even fly out there let alone be on television, I cry when I am in public speaking situations and I am what my children call a hermit.
I wish they would just surprise me at home. I know, I would do anything to have my own home, even fly out and be on television, but I could never forget the humiliation if I didn't win.
Anyone else have the same problem as me?
Believe me I would be so thankful if my name were chosen, I would feel very blessed and do my best to fly and be on TV, simply because a chance like this will only happen once and I will take that one chance come he** or high-water.
Next year, I think you should surprise the winner where they live.

Hey Lisa, Not good. Is there a family history or is it his choice? Dang girl thats alot. When you sleep place a pillow between your knees when you lay on your side this will take some of the pressure off the lower back. Good luck with him. Thats some baby sitting job, not my cup of tea, and they never never never change. Those pictures are beautiful, wish the best for whomever wins.

Just checking in to see if there's any new updates, and glance at these pictures again. Lisa, there is so much history here, yes, do check it out. It's awesome!! Good night all, Sweet dreams about probably one of the most beautiful areas of this magnificent country that we live in. As I said before, anywhere along the south east coast is breathtaking. from the Gulf of Mexico to Virginia Beach. I have worked for the airlines for going on 23years, and I have never had a desire to leave this country. There is too much to see and do here. I just watched a special on PBS about the Adirondacks. Never been there, but it was about the local produce, and what I found amazing was the power plants in the midwest - pollution from them - were actually harming the Loons there - they found traces of mercury in the birds so high that it could be harmful to reproduction. It is imperative that we sincerely do all we can to help this environment. It is very serious. Good night everyone.

Hello, kwalters and fellow bloggers! DaddysDarlin: You might be surprised at what you can do if you set your mind to it. Reminds me of how a whole series of "divine appointments" lead me to a little church of about 75 in WNC to help out in their "Faith Evangelism" classes taught by their pastor. He announced his leaving the church to go back to seminary in the middle of the classes, and the students pressed me (a long time trainer - I call "cheerleader" - but the absolute worst teacher in the world!)to complete the teaching of the course. To make a long story short, seven students (yes, almost 10% of the whole church) completed that course. At their graduation ceremony the pews were full, including representatives from other churches considering offering the program. I (the terrified public speaker) gave my testimony about the miracles God had wrought in my life through being available to the call. Later, someone in the choir mentioned what a nice speech, but what was that I was doing with my legs? "That was uncontrollable shaking" I replied! So the moral is: you can do anything you really need to do, so just hang on to the podium and go on!

Hello HGTV and DEB...fabulous house and incredible location!!! Deb, I read with interest your blog on churches without crosses. Let me suggest a different perspective on why a church may choose not to exhibit a cross. First of all, the cross represents the crucifiction of Jesus Christ, a death which was horrifying, torturous, and He was innocent, but He allowed it for our benefit. IF there should be a symbol that truly represent HIS VICTORY, overcoming death to live again, it would be the empty tomb. (But that is kind of a morbid "decoration"). My question would be, did you enjoy the service, was the music good, uplifting and inspiring. Was the message you heard soemthing you learned from, did it help to grow your faith. There is a place for both big churches and small churches, as much as there are many different denominations, but ultimately, the one purpose is to help teach people that there is hope, there is a God who loves them, no matter what their past, that life can get better. I read so many stories on these blogs of people struggling, of losing their homes to foreclosures, of sick relatives, and it is all heartbreaking, but there is hope in God.

A few years ago we lost everything we owned during a move due to theft. Everything! I wont go into too much detail because it tears me up still. This sweepstakes would be a dream come true for my family. My husband and I have 4 children who deserve so much more than what we can offer. We both have full-time jobs that we love and we work hard for what we do have but we pray daily to the lord that we will win the dream home! Ask and it shall be given.

Everyday I look outside and dream I lived somewhere warm that I could take my beautiful babies outside. After serving nine years in the US Navy my husband will be searching for a civilian job so he can stay close to home for our children. His contract will be up in October and we would love to make this our new home. Oh my!! Did I say new home. After nine years of grundgy military housing I can hardly contain myself!!! This would be a dream come true!!!! Good Luck everybody!!!

Good morning/afternoon to all,
Just read all the blogs, thanks mary for the tip, the pillow helped somewhat, no it's not in his family, it's just him with that bending of the elbow, and no he'll never never change, hasn't for almost 3yrs now, as far as a church not having a cross i quess that's on that particular church, yes, i believe that it was a horrible death and a price he paid for all of our sins so that we all might have life, i also believe that, that is why throughout our lives when we see the cross we never forget or take for granted that GOD has done for us all, that he gave his only son, THE CROSS has always been a symbol to me in my life, which represents JESUS and the sacrifice that he made for us all, so my feelings are with DEB, I believe we should have it every where, especially at a place of worship, after all one goes to church to worship the very one that gave his life on that cross, ok, now, don't get me started, i enjoy the blog, don't need my blood pressure going haywire, have a great day FELLOW bloggers !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lisa...

Hi everyone, I'm back again. I was just reading an excerpt of Jimmy Buffets new book, which reminded me of another of his books (and a song), Changes in Latitudes. Now that is a statement!!!! Good luck all!!

I must apologise,
I acted out on a earlier post after reading a blog, that hit some kind of nerve with me, and i'm sorry, God is good, a loving and forgiving God, that's why i know he'll forgive me for venting in haste, i haven't had such a great morning, i know that's no excuse, but my darn back hurts, so forgive me everyone, ok, especially you kim, hope the day gets better for us all, Lisa..Live Love Laugh...

It's been a busy week for me and I finally got to look at the pictures. I've never been to the Low Country but the photos are awesome and really give you a feel for the ole south. And all the bloggers comments about the charm and laid back attitude....WOW, sounds wonderful. And of course you have the fabulous GREEN HOME, the community, the golf the beach so close, I'm on a dreamin roll now. Thank you HGTV for this contest and all your interesting programs and encouraging us to live green. Good Luck everyone, not too much longer to wait. Pleasant (southern) dreams.

Deb: I'd like to comment on your take on the church you visited that had no cross. To me the cross is the essential part of the Christian Church. The empty cross reminds us that Jesus died on that cross for our sins, but, three days later he rose from the dead, and thus the cross is empty. Jesus Christ is no longer on the cross but is seated at the right hand of God, and at the appointed time He will return to earth. Without the cross a church is not a church, because it is taking Christ out of the church, it is simply a building. But, another thing is that even if a church has a cross, inside and outside, the building itself is still just a building. The true church is the believers inside the building. When Jesus said that He would return for this church, He was not talking about a building, but, about all the people who served Him and lived for Him. Anyway, this is what I believe. My life revolves around the person who hung on that cross, and rose from the dead. I believe that we are truly in the last days, and I truly believe that Christ will return during my life time. I can hardly wait! But, if it doesn't happen during my lifetime, then I will be with him when I die. Sometimes, I feel so homesick for home, Heaven, that it actually hurts. What a glorious day that will be. See you at the House.

Kim, I liked your reply to what deb said.In my faith we don't use the cross as part of our worship, however, we very much love Jesus Christ. I know people look at it differently though. At one time I belonged to another faith that did use the cross in their worship and I veiwed it as something beutiful because of what Jesus did for me ,so I understand that veiw. Now I am part of another faith that does not use the cross in their worship. One reason is because of just what you said and another is because we believe that that is idolatry.-Exodus 20:4,5; Jerimiah 10:3-5

HI! I love this beautiful cottage in Hilton Head. I love the Lowcountry, I am an adopted S.C. child as I have been living in and loving this beautiful state for many years as my husband is a devoted South Carolinian. Every corner of this state is beautiful and full of history and enchanting stories backing to the 1600s. I am in love with South Carolina and would love to spend years in that green cottage from HGTV in charming Hilton Head.

I keep clicking on the blog, and nothing, hopefully kwalters will release the posts today, it would be nice to pull that one i wrote yesterday in haste, i'm still feeling terrible about it, i've thought about it quite a bit yesterday, and i'm ashamed of my self, bird lover, that was such a sweet thing you did for that bird, alot of people wouldn't have done a thing, at least you did try to help it, Deb, you never did answer about what part of texas it is that ur husbands mom is buried, Katydid, i so wish i could win the Lottery, not for just myself, i feel better when i help others, I cannot stand to see anyone in need, especially when they go as far as holding up a sign that says "will work for food" that happened last year at christmas time, this guy was standing a distance from walmart parking lot, holding up a sign that said that, there was some mean people yelling at him to sell his bike if he needed some money, i yelled back at them to shut up, then i went to 3 different drive thrus and got that guy a variety of food, he was so happy, alot of people think that when one does that (hold up a sign) that it's for wine money, either way, it takes alot to hold up a sign, alot of desperation, so instead of money, you give them what they are asking for (food) then there is no chance of buying wine/beer with it, right?? i can't wait to see who wins the green home, i had to get back on that subject, after all that is what the blog is about, although i do enjoy reading everyones personal posts, i hope kwalters and HGTV don't mind if we also chat about our experiences, lives, feelings, etc. etc, and of course the subject, THE GREEN HOME, SEARS, KOHLER, any how, i'll go for now, but i'll be back, please kathy walters release our posts, we are anxious here, please, Lisa...

Well, I have been on the blog several times since yesterday, as I know we all have, and no updates. I know HGTV is very busy getting ready to announce the winner. I am just hoping (like in the past) that I have not offended more than one person. I have reread my blog and I thought that I kept it personal (on my part), and believe that I answered the questions asked of me. That is why I will not engage. However, if in some way, I have upset anyone else, I apologize to them as well. I was simply referring to how 'I' felt, it was in no way meant to offend anyone. It was the picture of this Church of the Cross that I loved and reminded me of an experience 'I' had, that's all. I feel as though perhaps I should just not say anything further because I certainly don't want to make anyone uncomfortable or uneasy, especially HGTV. Sorry if I hurt anyone. Take care and good luck to everyone.

Glad to see the blogs are back. Thank you every one for your comments. That's what makes America so great, we can all believe what we choose. Lisa, my hubbys mom is buried in Sanger, TX. It's about an hour west of Fort Worth. But I did tell him about what Charlenes husband does with the balloon and rose, and he loved it. By the way Charlene, he said tell you and your husband thank you - it's a great idea. And Lisa, I too have wondered the same thing, but it's almost over now. Take care everyone, and good luck to all.

Deb, you in no way offended me, in fact I may have offended a lot more with my preaching. I, too, believe that a church without a cross, is not getting across the message of the cross. My church has more than one and I love it. You, go, girl, lol.
Posted by bird lover – May 16, 2008 3:28 PM
To Deb, Lisa, and Bird Lover...first, Lisa, no offense here, I am extremely thick skinned and it takes a LOT to offend me, no apologies necessary. We all have our opinions, second...bird lover, you hit the nail on the head, it is not about the cross, or the building, you are right, the "church" is the people. It is all about Jesus dying to save us so we can have eternal life, it is about our faith. Last, Deb, my intention was not to offend you in any way either, but to say, like bird lover, that the decorations or the building are not what is really important. It is what is in our hearts, it is about: was your faith strengthened or grown, did the worship leave you feeling closer to God, or did the music glorify Him? If the answers are no, then your should seek out a church where your spiritual needs are met, but don't let the decor or lack of a symbol, be the make it or break it choice. I don't always like or agree with the buddha statues that decorate the local chinese restaurant, but the food is good. Quite a bit off the topic of this great green house...I would love to see the winner be one who can actually keep the house and see HGTV do a show on learning to live green, I know I could sure learn a lot, and it would be fun to watch...so HGTV...WE volunteer, make us the winners and we will happily do a show about learning, living, and loving a green lifestyle.

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE, HAPPY SATURDAY TO YOU ALL. THIS WILL BE THE LAST ON THIS TOPIC FOR ME. I ASK THAT THIS PLEASE BE READ CAREFULLY. Kim has asked several questions of me so I will answer them for kim. No, to all of your questions. 1)The music was rock and roll (not Christian) 2)People were eating and drinking in the service (yes, they have a concession stand), 3)The service was on a big tv screen,(to read), 4)People wore short, hats, etc. (hence the statement regarding it being like a broadway show). It does not matter to me what you wear, as long as you are there, but I do believe there should be some form of respect. I believe that whatever way you can get the word, get it. I believe that EVERYONE has a right to believe what they choose. History shows that America was founded with this in mind. So one could live the religion of their choice. I have a Church that I have gone to for over 24 years, as a matter of fact, I just made a stained glass window for the church!! I would suggest that my statement be read again - it said "I" have a problem with that. I was brought up Christian, I have uncles who are ministers, pastors, Christian recording artists, and this country was founded on Christian beliefs, and oh by the way did I mention that my husband is also an ordained minister? I apologize to HGTV, as far as I am concerned this should have never gotten to this point, I simply stated in my first blog here that I loved the picture of the Church of the Cross and "I" had an experience. I will not discuss this any further and suggest that others not engage either. Thanks to all and I want to wish everyone good luck and good day.

deb, Lisa B and bird lover: Nothing you ever post could ever offend me, because your hearts are so big. Kim: I loved your post. Reminded me of the time my first cousin and her husband, who had been missionaries in Hong Kong.... had seven children in the East, and sat in our modest living room. I looked around and there sat Budda on an oriental chest, art on the walls with a language I couldn't understand. We just liked that oriental decor. (HGTV, remember that show where the Budda was behind a metalic screen)? Well, suddenly I just wanted to run and put my Bible on the table and sing "Jesus Loves Me" They were so gracious, They are now in their 90's, living in California, and have a Granddaughter who won the swim suit competition in the Miss America (Hawaii) contest a couple of years ago.
Sorry I've rambled, my point is Kim, I can pray to my Lord, any where, any time, in a church, a temple or at my kitchen table. Good Luck to all you wonderful lovers of the GREEN HOME.

deb, bird lover,Lisa B.,and Katydid, I have really enjoyed blogging with you guys and I will miss it very much when it's over! I have not blogged in a couple of days because my feelings did get hurt. I am sensitive which isn't a good thing in this world we live in! I just love Jesus so much and it hurts when others don't think you do because you don't worship the way they do. I too believe we are living in the last days and I know that if any of you came to my place of worship you would know without a doubt that we do very much love Jesus and believe that he is sitting at the right hand of his father so I'm gonna get over it now! I hope you all have a good night!

hey everyone,
Pay attention this is an important day may 19th!!!
We've been down that way twice we have friends who winter in Summerville, they took all around Charleston, the market is wonderful, we went to aplantation that had an open air sandwich/soup restaurant with chickens running around. It was too early in the spring and things weren't blooming yet. We then drove our RVs to Savannah and took a tour but it was late in the day and we had to leave. We went back 2 years later and spent a whole day there and that isn't even enuf to enjoy all that beautifully designed city. the line at Paula Dean's was ridiculous we went to a scottish pub and the food was excellent. We parked our RVs in a mall a stones throw from hilton head that night. Love it!! Love it!!

I have really enjoyed reading the blog and finally decided to contribute. The suspense is really getting to me, I entered every day and can't wait to see who wins. My family would be so thrilled to move to such a beautiful place. I have had fun researching the area around Hilton Head, looking for hospitals where I could look for work, looking at other real estate too. My boys just want to know if they have a good little league there, but I haven't had much luck finding anything about that online. I have read lots of books about the low country, Savannah and the islands along the coast over the years, but have never been to the east coast except brief trips to Florida. The photos posted here really speak to me, feels like home.

I had the priviledge of living in South Carolina most of my life. I grew up in the upstate area, and went to college in the Lowcountry at College of Charleston. I love the Lowcountry area and would love to make it my permanent home, Green Home winner or not!

I just love and miss the S.C. Lowcountry. I lived on HHI for 10 years during the summers and after college. There is no place like it in the world. Bluffton is especially dear to me. It's quaint and lovely and welcoming. This is going to be one very, very, lucky person who wins this beautiful home. Cheers!

Dana, my apologies if it was me who offended you, never my intention. You are right, too, everyone chooses to worship how they see fit and should not be judged or criticized. While a church that worships by playing rock might be offensive to many, the young people probably love it, and if that is the way to reach them with the gospel, there is a place for that. Us "old folks" would probably choose a different form of music. Sorry if you felt judged or felt your faith was questioned, none of us need that, and only God knows what is in our hearts. HG...sorry for getting off the topic of the house again, love the house, love the whole "green living" concept, it is so important in this day to help preserve our environment.

Kim, let me assure you that it was not you who hurt my feelings! Thank you so much for your kind words! I understood your comments. You, like myself, were just trying to get people to see things from a different perpestive than how they usually see things and I appreciate that about you. I too have a passion for the scriptures and will miss blogging with you! I wish you good health, happiness and success.

A couple years ago we had a girls weekend in HHI. A couple of us were training for a marathon and one of our scheduled LONG runs was that weekend. We took off early, early in the morning while the temps were cool. It was the freakiest thing.....no lights! As in no light pollution either. Couldn't see anything on the blacktop paths so it was like running blindfolded. We made it and it will be a training run I will never forget!
