Yesterday in our weekly Green Home meeting, one of our PR reps asked if we'd seen the Green Home article in USA Weekend. I hadn't, so I tracked it down. (National press coverage? Love it!) While I was at it, I found some other recent news articles that I thought you might enjoy reading.
Miami Herald, "Dreaming in Green"
Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier, "HGTV's Green Home"
Even apartmenttherapy.com got in on the game in their blog entry, HGTV Green Home Giveaway Tour.

My wife and I just love watching HGTV and have become hooked on it. Kudo's on the national press coverage but you don't need it; your show is so popular. I'm so impressed with your "Green" home and have learned many great energy savings tip because of this give-away and from watching your shows. My dream has always been to live by water and enjoy the serenity. It is especially a dream of ours more than ever now as we tragically lost our daughter and our son one year apart from each other.
Keep on educating all of us on these fantastic energy tips and doing the great job you always do.

I didn't see the article but I just read it from this site. There is also an article on 'Going Green' in the April 08 edition of Readers Digest. There is so much that can be done with very little effort, and if we all do our part, we can make a BIG difference. Thanks again HGTV, for realizing the importance of this and for bringing it to so many. Good luck all.

The Everett Herald had an article in their weekend magazine insert (Everett is about a half hour north of Seattle). I was really excited to see a picture of the green home and was showing it to everyone to show them what I have been talking about all these weeks.

The spray insulation is something i wish we had done with our home (as well as solar power). It's great that large circulation newspapers are getting on board the "Green Train", giving added publicity and increasing awareness of the many smaller things that can be done to help conservation. Good luck to everyone!

Was reading this and thought I would put my 2 cents worth in, I just changed the light bulbs to florescent and I know I will save this way, I especially love the tankless water heater I don't have it yet but I know pretty soon Sears or someone will come up with one that is less exspensive so all can have one, Wow what a great idea to save water and electricty at the same time. Great Going HGTV. All of us really apreciate what you do for us out here in TV land and on the land as well you not talk about but you DO IT as well thanks.

I want to be a Southern Belle!!! The 'Green Home' the charm of one of the old southern plantations, which I absolutely LOVE. This home is close enough to my family here in MI and close enough to friends in FL. I so want to retire in the south, and 'Tradition Hilton Head' would be the perfect place to retire. My 2 grandsons could come visit, they have never seen the ocean. My grown sons could come visit, then they could go home, (ha)! My nephew and his family could come visit, with my great niece who has never seen the ocean. Then I could enjoy my life in retirement. I know, We ALL want this home, who wouldn't??? Good luck to everyone. We will know soon.

Location, location, location. Green Home, Green Home, Green Home. South, south, south!!! Let me tell you how I REALLY feel. Palm trees swaying in the wind, tropical balmy breezes, the warmth of the S.C. sun, not to mention the people, living in this 'Green Home' and community---PRICELESS!!!!! Good luck everyone. Miracles happen and dreams do come true. Thanks HGTV for being able to make someones dream come true.

The green home is the best house to ever be made. I love it, love it, love it! It is no suprise that it made the news. I believe this house started a real trend that will hopefully stick around and save this planet. I show my son the house on my computer everyday. We always go to "his room." he is 2 and always walk to the computer for me to let him see the house.

I've not seen anything on the green home, but last year when i was blogging about the location of the 08 dream home, i kept insisting that it was in mountain home arkansas, (because of the clues) and i would put certain things about mountain home on the blog, well, if you type mountainhomearkansas into the search box, it takes you to the home page and there are several of my blogs on there and links to HGTV blogs about the Dream Homes, still to this day, i checked it out yesterday, try it out folks, it's pretty cool, Lisa... I live in Kansas where as some of you may know we lost an entire town to a tornado last May . The towns name is Greensburg and I am excited that they are rebuilding the entire town green!Has HGTV considered maybe following their progress and sharing with everyone the tremendous undertaking this small town is undergoing to be green? They have received some national attention but I think they deserve more for planning to be America's first Green City. I think it would be fascinating to follow their progress and a real learning experience for us all.

I haven't done all that I would like to go green in our own home (would love to get a tankless water heater!), but have done a few small things and have actually seen savings (esp. in our water bill). I've been switching bulbs that have blown with energy saving ones. So far, half the house has energy saving bulbs now. I also have stopped rinsing the dishes before I put them in the dishwasher (I know some are like "oh gross!"). Yes, you have a smelly dishwasher before you run it, but it does save water! And since we here in the north and central part of GA are in a drought, every little bit helps. Oh, I also have tried to stop my very bad habit of letting the water run when I brush my teeth and I make sure that the laundry is a full load whenever I run it (the dishwasher too, make sure it's full). With all these little water saving tips (plus some that are probably TMI for a public blog! lol), we went from 7 thousand gallons last billing cycle to 4 thousand gallons this billing cycle. That not only saved water, but also reduced our bill by $11! And with the price of EVERYTHING going up, every little bit helps.
So, when my name is picked, and they ask me how I am going green in my own home, these are just a few of the answers I will give. :-)

It's really hard to pick out just one thing with this incredible home. I love the metal roof, the front porch, the solar, the pavers, the water recapturing system, the energy appliances, the screened porch, the claw foot tub, the dog pictures (the brown and white one looks like my baby), the master bedroom is breathtaking, the lamps in the master, the sitting area on the second floor, the shoe caddy, the landscaping is just gorgeous (although I think there's room to squeeze my palm trees in), all of the furnishings. Told ya, it's hard to pick out one thing. What a perfect retirement place. I mean PERFECT!! My husband and I are both big readers, and there are so many cozy places to snuggle up with a good book. Dreaming again, but like I said, I can feel this home. Not to mention the location, and everything this home and community stand for. The perfect American home town. Good luck everyone. I'm really going to miss you all.

Well I have but one thing to say, Deb you are a true southern belle already in my book, I'm really hoping one of us bloggers wins but I bet it was random pick from mail entries Of course maybe it will be one of us no one knows but I'm rooting for one of the bloggers to win. Thank you HGTV for this opportunity and I'm sure the most deserving pick is just right for this home, I hope they are as excited as the rest of the bloggers are. We can hardly contain ourselves.
Enjoyed all you so much thanks to everyone. Im getting off as storms are starting again here in AR boy I need a vacation in Hilton Head in the event anyone cares.

The Green Home is amazing and deserves every accolade it receives. I am wondering if HGTV plans to continue many of its "Green" practices in future dream homes? Even if the homes are not advertised as "green", I hope that green features will be proudly incorporated. It is something we all need to do, and HGTV has the ability to educate so many people. Thanks for the great ride with the Green Home--it is hard to imagine it is almost over.

Southern Lady, and I say that with the utmost respect, thank you. You are a sweetheart. God love you. I have to tell you a funny. My husband got an AARP thing in the mail on Tues,on Wed he got an offer to join Double Day 'LARGE PRINT' book club. He's like bumming and I'm laughing (actually we were both laughing). When I logged on this a.m. to check email, and do my HGTV 'Green Home', I noticed that he had ordered some books from the book club. He had surprised me with "The Lady and Sons" cookbook. He knows I LOVE Paula Deen. He did not know that the 'Green Home' was 20 mins from Savannah. Oh, another dream come true, to visit her restaurant. Thought that was cute, and very sweet of him. To all my friends here, Southern Lady, Dana, Lisa B, katydid, bird lover, good luck. And by all means, should I be blessed enough to win this home, you are more than welcome to drop by should you be in the neighborhood. I truely believe in sharing and caring. Love and good luck to all.
