Happy Friday, everybody! I've been busy this week working on a homepage for our new series, Red Hot and Green, which is hosted by handyman Carter Oosterhouse and designer Nicole Facciuto, from What's Your Sign? Design. It premieres Tuesday, July 2, at 11/10c, but we'll have the homepage up next week so you can get a preview. We've got a ton of fun stuff, like videos with HGTV Green Home house planner Jack Thomasson and a "Can You Pick the Green Product" quiz.
Till then, here's a sneak peek of two of the slideshows. The Red Hot and Green link on the last pages won't work till next week when the show page launches (did I say sneak peek?), but I know you'll have fun perusing all these beautiful rooms and storage tips. I bet you'll even recognize some of these pictures from our Green Home slideshows.
10 Beautiful Rooms (You Won't Believe They're Green!)
I love the rooms in the first one because they came from some of our favorite designers (like Carter, Vern and eco-guru Lori Dennis) and talented viewers like you, who uploaded photos to Rate My Space.
Here's a taste of what you'll see, a bachelor's lounge by Lori Dennis:

Have fun clicking through. See you next week!

The rooms are beautiful and it was fun seeing the many storage ideas again from the GREEN HOME. Really looking forward to the new Red Hot and Green show. Thanks HGTV for encouraging us to go greener and greener.

Happy Friday to you too!! I love the "What's Your Sign Design!!" My husband and I are both Libras, but do not always agree..it would be interesting to see what Astrologer Greg Tufaro and designer Nicole Facciuto would come up with for us? The ten rooms featured are absolutely gorgeous & loved viewing them...thank you very much!! Lori Dennis has a great flair for decorating & I love the bachelor's lounge even though I am female..just fantastic. I have not tried the "Rate Your Place" site yet, however I think I will take some photos to see how much trouble I can get into...I know I need help with my decorating!! Have a GREAT weekend. Love you HGTV, Marie Miller

That's teasing!

Love the green storage options from the green home. I have bought glass storage containers similar to the ones used at the dollar store to put my sugar, flour, tea bags. etc in. And the use of the old cabinets, shelves, and containers is right up my ally. To me it is all so classy. Thanks again HGTV.

Good Morning! Well, I sumitted photos of my living-room & dining-room to the "Rate Your Place", and I only received two and a half stars...oops! I guess I really do need help (Candice Olson could make my place mermaid heaven)!! So, if any of you would like to help me, I'm at "Mermaid" on the "Rate Your Place" site!! Help!!! Desperate in Brookings, Oregon...Marie Miller

This question is for you kwalters. Is HGTV going to give away a green home each year?
Posted by Kevin – May 31, 2008 10:25 AM
Marie Miller: If your Mermaid home is the one with the Plasma TV on the mantel, I do have a few suggestions for you. You have beautiful mahogany floors and furniture and interesting collectables, now if you could only put some of that rich color on those white walls. Keeping with the ocean theme, maybe a sand color or a blue from the seascape painting. Or a soft gold would be stunning. Would it be possible to put the TV to the right of the fireplace, maybe placing it on a low (recycled) chest that would make it more at eye level for seated viewing? Then you could place that seascape above the mantel, along with a few collectables. Live plants are healty for the indoor air and a Boston fern in front of the dining room window would be nice. However, I use artificial plants that are placed high up to give a cascading effect over the edge. Hope I've been a little helpful, I do enjoy your posts so much.

I noticed that Micro-fibre cloth towels were recommended instead of paper towels, but when I researched them they were made in China. Not too fond of the energy used in shipping them here. Also, they have to be laundered like cloth napkins, and that uses energy too. Are there any paper towels made of recycled paper? Don't remember who's tip this was...browsing through all the Red Hot and Green "go to's". Awesome, HGTV. Thank you. LOVE your programs.

Just one word...
WOW!

Dear Katydid:
Thank you so much for all your wonderful ideas & I really agree with you...originally we did have the "Hurry Home" seascape painting above the fireplace....and, then my hubby decided he wanted a large TV!!! Well, needless to say, we had to totally rearrange the living room!! The TV created many problems & we are still working on how to recreate a more desirable living space. I love the idea of color on the walls & do like the idea of the soft gold..you seem to have a nack for decorating!! You have an open invitation to my home to help me!! Oh yeah, I love your suggestion about the plants! Thanks again & I love your blogs!! Marie Miller

Dear HGTV: I really enjoyed the "Green Storage" ideas. Glass jars are great for storing just about anything...I use them for all my pastas & even display the tall skinny ones on my kitchen counter with spaghetti & lasagne in them. Using boxes for storage is wonderful...I purchases hat boxes & used them to store my shoes, belts, purses, etc. and place them on the shelf in my closet..I love how they look & it organizes that space! I love Katydid's comment about the Micro-fibre cloth towels..nice research & I think paper towels made of recycled paper is the way to go. Thank you to all the "green" bloggers. HGTV is the "boom!!!" I love what you are doing with the new series, Red Hot and Green, which is hosted by handyman Carter Oosterhouse and designer Nicole Facciuto!! WOW!! It is so nice learning how to go green in your home without sacrificing style! It will be fun to see how one home gets a stunning green makeover from the living room, kitchen, bedroom and backyard. It's also wonderful to see homes where the furniture and products are also environmentally friendly!! We can all learn from the other owners how they incorporated recycled materials and energy efficient strategies into their homes & absorb the quick green tips from Carter Oosterhouse, and designer Danny Seo, which are absolutely incredible...never knew so many ways to incorporate beautiful green design elements into my home.
Thank you HGTV...your programs transform the way we live!!!! Marie Miller

Dear HGTV: Question: How do you notify the winner of the "Green Home?" I'm curious as I will be out of town from June 5th to the 15th?? It is my understanding that you have already have the winner picked. How many days prior to June 8th do you notify the winner? I'm new at this, and really not sure how it all works. Curious in Brookings, Oregon. Marie Miller

Marie Miller: Glad I could be somewhat helpful. Most of any "wonderful ideas" I might have I have learned from HGTV. I have been watching them a long time. Miss some of their old programs, but the new ones (especially the green ones) are wonderful. Thanks for the invitation. I'm afraid Michigan to Oregon is a very long distance, but wouldn't it be fun. Well, we can keep in touch on the blogs. Can't wait till Sunday, until then everyone, pleasant dreams.

Oh, Happy Day! The Stanley Cup is back in Hockeytown. Mary and Penquin fans, your team is awesome! Your time will come, keep the faith. Was going to seque into Red Hot and Green, but can't seem to find it. Found it once, can anybody help me? Sounds like another great show "What's your Sign, Design?". And "Can you pick the Green Product Quiz" will be so much fun. HGTV, you are such a tease...but I love it. Pleasant dreams everyone.

Dear HGTV,
I love all the shows you have, and my TV is almost perminately tune to it. I thank you for having programming on Green home.
It would be even better if you could ingest the idea of "how to" living green in more programs. The more people are educated the more likely they will do the right thing.
Thanks for for the great programming!

Can anyone tell me where I can get the sames kitchen dishes in the cupboards of the green home? They look like they are white with a green stripe. Can anyone help me?

Anyone know that over 90% of furniture is made with materials know to cause global warming, respiratory problems, breast cancer, and even leukemia over extended periods of time? As if that weren’t bad enough, the furniture industry is devastating the world’s forests with their careless harvesting practices.
Eco friendly furniture offers a solution to these problems by using non-toxic glues, cushions made from natural materials (soy and latex), and hardwood frames from responsibly managed forests. Good Eco furniture also replaces chemically derived fabrics (polyester, nylon, and viscose) with natural fabrics (cotton, hemp, and linen). These simple changes are vital to preserving the planet, and the health of our families. The problem is that most companies who offer Eco friendly furniture are price gouging their customers. The average price for an Eco sofa is now over $4,300.
I am not interested in these schemes. My mission is to positively impact the world by making safe, Eco friendly furniture affordable to everyone. In fact, I am the first company to offer genuine Eco sofas for under $1,500. Don't you want to feel good knowing that your family and the planet are protected at a fair price.

You inspire us to see what green can be. Green choices seem to be everywhere in a home remodel even when you don't expect it. Thanks for the inspiration.
