"We're very excited about the HGTV Green Preview Center. It gives people the opportunity to learn about the home's unique green elements, from the flooring, to the paint to the landscaping." The center also showcases the community's green attributes such as water recycling and high-efficiency irrigation systems.

This house is going to be mine it is wonderful and just the right size and in the most wonderful area. With the power of positive thinking, entering every morning, and a little p.s. in my morning prayers to our Lord and Savior that it be his will that I win this to share with my family and allow me the luxury of warmth and beauty each February and March when it so miserable here in the U.P. of Michigan. My children and grandchildren could take their families there for their vacations too. I have 5 grown children and 8 grandchildren and they all love golf, they would be so excited. Marta

Today i begin my ritual of entering for another HGTV Home. I can only hope that this one does not get as ugly as the last one did. Contests are suppose to be fun. I do read all the rules, however the rules on this aren't crystal clear. It says there will be more than one random name picked. Also it says the validity of the winner will be determined by their email address. This pretty much tells me that the post cards we send in aren't considered. The last contest I sent in 2000 post cards was this a waste of my money and time. I had hoped sweat equity would have played a role. The reason I question the post card is it doesn't ask for an email, but date of birth and phone. This troubles me especially with so much identity theft. Please HGTV can you clarify the rules?

Have fun everyone and give it your all

I've registered to win. With all the excitement over this house, my entry will probably end up being 1 out of 1,000,000!

I started to enter today...Good Luck everyone!!

Once again as with every HGTV home The kids have picked out their rooms. This way there is no arguing at the last minute when we win the home. Just one problem with so many open windows I guess my husband will have to keep his pants on instead of walking around in his boxers. It looks like everyone in the community is very friendly, so we hope to have alot of fun in this house.

I am so happy that they are building a more energy efficient home! It is such a good idea and hopefully will inspire others to "green-ize" their own home! I can't wait to see who wins...

Posted by Joanna – March 21, 2008 11:13 AM

I just toured the Green Home 2008 and I was surprised not to see some solar panels for generating electricity and for making hot water. Did I miss this or did they not take advantage of the ample sun light in the Hilton Head area?

Posted by Leonard Belanger – March 21, 2008 11:21 AM

I love the idea of this house. And you all did a beautiful job designing it, constructing it, and furnishing it. I am definitely entering this contest as often as I can. And- how cool- it starts on my birthday! (That's today- I'm not saying how old I am...)

But- I was looking at the before and after aerial photos of the Tradition Hilton Head site. It used to be that this entire area was filled with lush green trees. They were beautiful. Now all those trees are gone. In terms of being green and protecting the world's ecosystem, my understanding is that one of the most important things we can do to help our planet is to preserve our trees and forests. In fact, increasing the number of trees that are healthy and alive on our planet is about the best way we can counteract the effects of global warming. So, does Tradition Hilton Head intend to replace all the trees it cut down in order to build its green community?

Is it just me or did the last winner seem somewhat annoyed on TV? Wonder what kind of reaction we'll see this time? Good luck to everyone!

Dear HGTV: Right when I felt the most depressed about not winning the Islamorada home in Florida, I find myself entering this drawing for a beautiful home in SC. My home state is Georgia, so this would be a dream come true as well. I'm so excited about the chance to win a green home! I am also involved in the DreamHome for 2009...I will just keep trying...I've never won anything in my whole life, so I figure if I keep trying, it may happen! Good luck to everyone!!

I made my entry today as well. Every time I make an entry I have to completely fill out the entry all over. My computer won't allow me to just re-enter my e-mail address. Would this have a negative affect on my entry or is that okay? Does anyone have the answer? Good Luck everyone.

The first of many entries to follow. This is a great house and a great location. I love to play golf . . . I am crossing my fingers. Good luck to all!

I would love to have the opportunity for my family and I to live here. We'll see what life has in store for us. If we don't win, then we don't win...but wouldn't it be a kicker to actually win something? Ahhhh....dreams. I suppose that is the real reason for the name of "Dream Home" and not "Reality Home". Good luck everyone, and HAVE FUN!

Posted by Alysa – March 21, 2008 12:59 PM

I have entered also. I love Hilton Head and I have to move from my home. My granddaughter was unfortunately molested by my next door neighbor's brother. Her therapist says that she does not ever need to come there again. What a blessing it would be to win this home. I'm disabled and because of my illness, I lost my credit. Anyway, I'm not looking for pitty, just to be with my family, a home where my daughter and grandchildren can visit, in a place I love.

I'm looking forward to the tour on TV this weekend. I love to see all the different products they use in these homes. I might not win anything but I know I'll pick up a ton of ideas for my own home.

I hope everyone remembers that all the dreaming and hoping is the best part of the contest, something you can take advantage of every day. Whoever wins we should be happy for them and appreciative of the opportunity to participate in such a terrific contest.

Good luck everybody!

Is there a master bedroom and bath? Otherwise, it's beautiful. My favorite place in the US is the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Thank you HGTV for such a great concept of a green home. It has motivated me to look up ideas of how our family can be greener. I've decided to start small with energy efficient light bulbs, found the county location to take our aluminum cans and plastic bottles (also found out they provide free mulch!), and buying organic poultry and beef as a start in the kitchen. Keep giving us great ideas to green it up!

Excited about going to see the Green Home. TraditionHH said that their center will have inter-active displays about sustainable design so it will be a learning experience.

There are solar panels -- on the roof.

There is a master bedroom & bath -- 1st floor.

I am so excited about winning a green home! My family and I have been doing all we can to go green and I hope this home will be an inspiration for others to change for the better to help our earth. I was also excited to see there was a garden area because we grow all of our own veggies which I can and freeze for use throughout the year.I may even get some new inspiration for my herbal soap and body product line from the area! Thanks HGTV for this great opportunity. Keep providing us with all the green information.

Love the house, but not comfortable with the feng shui of the design. Coming into the kitchen first after the foyer is strange. Can the next house have someone with feng shui knowledge have input into the design?

Since the Dream Home Dream was born on Hgtv. My grandaughter Autumn and I dreamed that ours it would be..Year after year we bonded together watching the Dream Home special in good or bad weather..We entered, laughed and dreamed year after year...Knowing our Dream Home ...Dream Come true was getting near...Now years have passed and away we have moved...Entering faithfully with nothing to prove...Autumn's interest has wained with the years..A tradition we shared through growing pains and tears...But alas another grandaughter has caught our bug. Now Grammy and Megan share Dreams from above...The Dream Home is gone but the Green Home is here...Thank goodness for another chance looking back in the mirror...So Megan and I we now have fun trying to win another home warmed by the sun...Hope we win soon and hope we win quick for I may run out of grandchildren to share in our pick....LadyLuck8

Another great contest, This is fun to enter and the chances of winning are 1 in how many million?? but please people don't start with the SOB STORIES, we all have it rough these days, HGTV is not going to read these blogs and pick out the worst sob story, just enter and have fun, it is a RANDOM DRAWING, not whoever has the worst story of thier life on the blog, if it is meant for your name/number to be drawn then it will be, not because you have this bad thing happening or that bad thing happening, we all pretty much have it hard in this world today, so please stop with your SOB STORIES, it's real annoying, and not very dignified for you do put it down for everyone to read, Lisa B...........

Hi! My name is Megan. I'm ten and my grandma, Janina, just showed me the green house! It was the best. Before I saw it, thats exactly what my dream house was in my dreams.I was totally shocked when she showed me it because it was a house on the water and I absolutly love water, and I love South Carolina and California! Its like a dream come true! The cubby and bunk room are just as cute as could be but I would up some Miley Cyrus,Hannah Montana, and the Jonas brothers posters up! I would be outside all the time, well until I was tired and had to go in and eat or go to sleep or whatever. It seems so relaxing of course.Another thing we would do there is write poetry, draw and put on plays and sing and dance because my family is a artistic, theatere type.I'm also into photography and that home has the best sunset ever and it would be the perfect place for me.I'm such a great singer and dancer I would feel like an actress and popstar.Did I mention I act? Well I'm into singing, dancing, and acting also!I just think the house would match my personality totally because like I said I'm that type and I love water like I said a lot.LOL!Anyways I have lots of cousins that would love to stay there. My grandma would love to live there too and she says she has a lot of crafts planned if we win.Well hope you enjoyed reading this!Bye for now! I just noticed the car HGTV is giving away along with their "green" home. A GMC Yukon. Seriously? That car gets 22 mpg highway! Poor choice, my friends. This kind of thing is why were aren't making a bit of difference with "light green" attitudes.

Where is the TV in the living room - am I just totally missing it? Also, I wish it had a fireplace, but still excited to have my first entry.

My first date with my husband was to Hilton Head Beach 40 years ago - and we've been married 38 years! Would love to retire there! This home looks perfect!

Posted by debbie – March 21, 2008 6:21 PM

I am certain HGTV had good intentions with the thought of a greener vehicle. It is regrettable that our American Auto manufacturers can not see past their own greed. I have a 20 year old car that gets close to 40 mpg on the hwy. And in 85 I had another that got over 44 mpg (Made in America). You can not tell me that with the vast improvements in our tecnology these manufacturers couldn't see past a little greed to produce something a bit more economical for us all, and better for our environment. I wouldn't blame HGTV for trying to buy American. I would instead curse the oil companies and our own auto people for collaborating against us all to further line their own pockets at our expense.
The home is nicely done. And in a good location near the water. Yes, it is a pretty average looking home. Still it is very nicley done with some exceptional highlights and extras. I would like to win it to keep it ! But I would definitely sell the vehicle to someone who could afford to fill it. Use the money to help pay the taxes and try to finance the rest . Then, I will keep my 20 year old 40mpg midsized car and laugh all the way to the bank.
Thank You HGTV for offering yet another beuatiful home for us to try to win. And a car to help cut some of the taxes.

Posted by Roberto – March 21, 2008 6:33 PM

Sarah please dont waste your money time and energy by posting postcards, look at the odds the contest receives 41 million entries. So each entry gives you a 1 in 41 million chance, 2000 entries does not mean you improve your odds by 2000, its just that you have 2000 (1 in 41 million ) chances. You have greater chance of being struck by lighting than winning this contest. You spent $820 on this contest, that's sad if you had invested the money in 30 years you would made 21,469.76 (8% interest add 100 per year, stocks over long periods make 8% per year) . Look at the huge amount of time you wasted. Seriously its not worth it. enter it once, if you are really lucky u will win or else oh well it was not meant for you anyway. I do that ...

Whoaaa...--I'm 13 and I just wanted to check out this house cuz it's in a reasonable location unlike the one in Florida! I was really disappointed when I took the tour...I was hoping for something a lot larger...and no walk in closet in the master! lol...small kitchen, small bedrooms, ...I am so shocked! I checked out the two bedrooms upstairs and there's barely any room for a desk, dresser, or shelving unit! seriously...they should've used more of the land...and the living room...no TV! lol...jkjk...But i would actually question the use of green materials in this house...and also, the use of colors is horrible! white, white, yellow...BORING! i also would've liked to see an entertainment room or game room with a pool table, bar, and something a little more fun...or maybe a breakfast nook...a deck from the upstairs...a birdhouse or birdbath...something more interesting! oohh...a library would be awesome! i did like the screened in deck, though...nice place to work on homework or read...and my favorite part is probably the golf cart! lol...my mom works at the golf course in my city...i absolutely love golf and basketball...they should've added like a hot tub or a sporty backyard! i still want to win...it would make a nice vacation home...hehe...nbd, tho...well...Happy Easter everybody! and good luckk...AND STAY GREEEN!!! WOOO!

I was REALLY bummed when HGTV didn't come knockin' at my door for the Islamorada home, UNTIL I saw this one!

Living in Buffalo, NY (with the parents...LOL; NOT! They won't even let me put in a therapeutic hot tub, at my expense! The meanies!) with Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia, for which I'm on disability, is just NOT helping!

I'm gonna PRAY some more, plus enter the sweeps EVERYDAY this time! (My two kitties and I would really enjoy the warmth of the sun in South Carolina)...

I have a question about the furnishings in the house. When I go to look at the site where it lists all of the items in the house, almost every item has no price on it, it just says 'price varies'. Why can't each furnishing have the price that hgtv/green home paid for it. That would help with deciding whether I could afford it or not, understanding that the price may be different according to where you live. It is very fustrating not knowing what the prices are. Thanks

What a beautiful home and that you've gone the extra mile of making it a green home is even better. I'd love to win it since I'm to retire soon and for quite a long time have rented a room from family or church friends. Although it's been a blessing to rent from very kind people, to have my own place would be really nice so I must claim favor with hope. Anyway whomever wins definitely will receive a gem in this home too. What a blessing you are HGTV and designers. Thank you for all you do.

What a dream come true. My husband and I love to golf!!! We have three children and one of them loves golf too. Maybe he likes riding in the golf cart more than golfing but it's a wonderful dream home. I thought the idea of having a putting range in the garage was great. The fire pit area is wonderful for entertaining on any kind of evening. Put some shrimp on the grill and the party is on especially after a long day of golf. The home being green is so appealing. The concept of it being done on the east coast rather than the west coast first is awesome. Best of luck to everyone.

Does anyone know the sq. footage of the house and property?

Posted by Donovan – March 22, 2008 1:17 AM

I, just like many of you have entered the Green Home giveaway. South Carolina is a beautiful place with weather similar to the Mississippi weather I experience at home. I love what HGTV has done with this home. I saw on the HGTV Green Home where the kitchen stove was heated through an electro-magnetic field of some sort. That is so awesome! I agree with one of the person's blog entries in regard to eco-friendly surroundings. Deforestation is a big problem in the United States. Did you guys replace the trees that were cut down to build the home? I hope so. As mentioned, trees absorb carbon-dioxide and release oxygen. I studied about sustainable environments in Evironmental Science in college. I think the entire world needs to come together in an effort to save our environment. If not, then think of it this way...your kid's kids will not have all the beautiful surroundings you and I see today. I think for every tree cut, there needs to be two planted in its place.

I do love the HGTV Green Home! It is beautiful, spacious, and eco-friendly that would not break the bank with utilities. Love the solar panels on the roof top. I have been thinking about developing wind turbines to produce power. Have you guys thought about wind turbines? I think solar power is the best as some areas in the world are not windy. I think wind used in conjunction with solar could power an entire household.

I also like what GMC is doing with the SUV making it more fuel efficient. I read on one of the blogs where someone was dissatisfied with the 22 miles per gallon highway miles the Hybrid gets. I am unsure if this person knows what one that is not hybrid gets. My guess would be around 12-15 miles per gallon. However, I do think we can do even better with vehicles than what we do. My car gets almost 37 miles to a gallon of gasoline on the highway and 32 in the city.

Love the idea of envrionmentally friendly vehicles and housing. This is what is needed to control global warming.

Love all you guys shows.

Chris

I did read something about identification based on e-mail address so I would just ad it to the card. I am going to read it again to dbl chk.I am sending my friends to tour the house for United way (ithink tht's what it said) since I am too far away it will make me feel closer to our new home.

Hey this just may be a home you could win and afford to keep! Lets see the tax bill would be about what we pay in mortgage each year. I didnt enter last time. that florida home was more of a vacation home not practical for living in. I would be afraid to win a 2 million dollar you couldnt sell in this market

Little Note:If you are entering and you win, please act like you really wanted to win it,at least surprized and not annoyed looking.Big disappointment from the last winner.....Re-Draw!

This home is beautiful, to say the least! I want this home as my retirement home... it has everything I love and location... wonderful!! This one's mine everyone. After 3 years of entering this one has my name on it and my grandchildren will love it! HGTV PICK ME!

Posted by Denise Cook – March 22, 2008 9:19 AM

I agree with Lisa- stop the whining!! The sob stories are just too much. They will NOT pick you because your life is a mess. Everyone has troubles- this is not the place to air them. Enter, chat about the house, dream big- but leave the whining at home where it belongs.

Posted by peeking – March 22, 2008 9:23 AM

Does anyone know what the overall square footage is of the house? I do plan on watching the tv special and can only assume it will be mentioned. Just curious. House looks beautiful- I entered the Dream Home contest but would much rather win this one (and try to keep it)

Posted by B.Stein – March 22, 2008 10:08 AM

I am sooo excited to have entered in the dream home giveaway. My husband and I are just about ready for retirement and this is truely a dream house, I have a floor plan similar to this dream house, but not sure where to set up? We are in Maine right now, but so sick of cold and snowy weather we are well overdue to go south. It would be a dream come true, where the children and grandchildren could come visit in the beautiful warm climate. My heart just sinks when I see this beautiful green home.
I surely could get use to southern cooking. My husband served
25 years in the military and we are ready to go back to the warmth of the south.

The solar panels on the roof can be seen in the waters edge photos (not video tour). The following URL shows it especially beautifully :-) http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/green_home_2008/article/0,3183,HGTV_30916_5803144,00.html

This is a very classy home. Everyone of us would love to live there. I love the layout, colors and furnishings. Maybe more closets, but there is an ample garage. I will be entering every day. Good luck to us all.

Posted by Terry Edds – March 22, 2008 10:57 AM

Agree with Athena. But the truck (really, it's not a car) does not even get 22 mpg. It is rated at 20 and according to the magazines does not even reach that target. Kiplinger's review of the hybrid Yukon states that it tops out at only 17 mpg. Hardly green.

I'll take the house but GMC can keep the truck.

Love the idea of a 'Green Home'. How do you enter the house from the garage? Am I missing something? It looks like you have to enter from the living room. Am entering the contest on my son's birthday and it ends on my stepson's birthday!! Best of luck to everyone. This part of SC is beautiful.

What a beautiful tour! I know God's will is what is best for me. I pray to win, but if it's not His will for me, I know God's will for this home is for someone else. I accept this and still thank Him for what I do have. I enter with high hopes and thankfullness each time. Whoever the winner is, just feel blessed that you were chosen!

Yes Dan, I agree, I cound not see much reaction from the last "giveaway". I truely hope I'm drawn, I'll sing, praise, shout, (smile at least),jump & everyone will positively know I've won !!!!

"HAPPY EASTER" to everyone !!!!

Yes Dan, I was upset at the winner's last reaction myself. I realize everyone has different responses, but please HGTV give this Green Home away to someone in need- ( LIKE ME !!! :) )

Are alligators dangerous?

Yes,we have alligators in Hilton Head. They can run as fast as a horse and they have lots of big teeth. We have struck a deal with our alligators, though: if we leave them alone, they will leave us alone. It is against the law to feed alligators - we are better off if they are afraid of us than if they think of us as a source of food. Females protecting a nest are extremely dangerous if approached. Alligators live in the lagoons so you must never swim in a lagoon or let children (even supervised) play on the banks of a lagoon. Alligators consider dogs a delicacy. Alligators move around - a lagoon that has none today could have one tomorrow."Frequently Asked Questions about Hilton Head"

Each year we have taken our grandchildren with us. They love it and it gives us an opportunity to visit with family from Beaufort, SC. Ages 5 to 87 enjoy the island. Last Sunday,I was already in my PJs and awaiting the Islamorada announcement when my husband said laughing,"Are you going to look like that when HGTV knocks on the door?" So I jumped up and got dressed and put some lipstick on...just in case! When I saw the snow on the ground as the lady (boy was she excited) headed to the winner's front door, I went and go my jammies back on! That winner gal wasn't screaming or anything! Man, if you want entertainment, pick me! I'll jump up and down and whoop it up! I love the beach and I've stayed at the Chica Lodge down there in Islamorada. Who doesn't stop at the outdoor sportsman shop and check out the marina! So, this GREEN home is even closer to Raleigh, NC! Can I build a dock & tie up my jet ski? What's that water - a creek? Is there a community marina? I saw a few homes way off - only could zoom but so far. When is HGTV coming to the outer banks of NC! Shhhh, it's our little secret hideaway. You'd also love the Pamilco Sound area folks! Fishing and beaching, ahhhh!

Can members of the same family enter? In some sweepstakes, only 1 entry per household is eligible, and I was wondering if this was the same way.

Posted by Barb – March 22, 2008 8:57 PM

Question: just wondering about the process of elimination. How will the finalists be eliminated after several names are drawn? What is the actual process of elimination down to the Grand Prize Winner? Thanks and Good Luck To All.

The Green house is a great idea, its nice that you raise the awareness for caring about the environment. Seriously you should ban the mail-in entries (snail-mail entries) for this contest. There would be huge co2 emissions involved in the transport of the mail from all over the country plus the paper. Its cheaper to do it over the web anyway. Sarah, 2000 entries ? C'mon save yourself the money and the time

WAY TO GO!!!! Keep up the good work.

I hope we win this home.. It would be a wonderful start to our new family. I recently married a widower with 3 children and would love to bring the kids to a new home. It would be a perfect start for all of us.

Posted by Betsy – March 22, 2008 11:34 PM

What is up with you bloggers!?!

The dream home winners have no obligation to respond in a certain way or with a level of excitement that you deem appropriate or necessary. Why would you ask future winners to paste on a smile and jump up and down!?! Just be happy for the winner and accept their honest reaction.... how you think they should react is really irrelevant. And for gosh sakes, quit ragging on Stephanie Dee.

For all of those sharing way too much personal information about the details of your life, don't expect winning a dream home to turn things around. Your placing your hope in the wrong place.

What's with all the stories of how deserving you are to be the next winner? Not one of us deserve it folks, from the least to the greatest, none of us. The dream home is a wonderful but undeserved gift.

All the best to the winner of the 2008 HGTV Green Home....

Posted by ljjasper – March 23, 2008 12:18 AM

The drawing is rigged... you guys are all wasting your time... a winner is already chosen... this is just a formality because they have to do the drawing for posterity purposes...

Posted by Anonymous – March 23, 2008 12:40 AM

Just in case I don't win...will these plans be available for purchase? Does anyone know how many square feet it is? I can't seem to find that info anywhere! Good luck all!

Posted by J. Hepper – March 23, 2008 4:06 AM

dear HGTV: I have to ask out of curiosity. Hypothetically speaking :) if someone where to win the HGTV Dream Home can they run again for the Green Home? Or lets say someone was a previous winner of a HGTV Dream Home can they run again for any future Dream homes OR do they have to wait a couple of years? OR is their name, contact and email address blacklisted?

***Yes i know the likelihood of someone winning both is very unlikely but I CURIOUS. :) let me dream of the possibilities OK.***

I am most likely gonna move from the state I was born and raised in MICHIGAN. The state is in a recession, and it is too costly to live here anymore. The winters are cold, no good jobs here and the utilities are going through the roof, I believe we have one the highest gas, costs & utilities here. We have lost 1 percent of the population recently with every one moving to more affordable places to live. Save me from the wrath of Michigan economical distruction. I would love to have this Green Home, and to live in a warm state such as South Carolina. Pick me HGTV (my favorite channel) a lady who has had a hard way to go, and needs to leave her home state behind soon. "Will the last one out of MICHIGAN please turn off the lights!" Good Luck to all and God help us all.

I am so excited to enter for the Dream Home.

I had lived in so many places and as I get older I'm ready to stay in one place.

I love the Green colors that is all through this House, Green is my favorite color.

I do hope my entries are not disqualified because I have a Rural Route address, the Box number is my Mailbox number (it is not a PO Box) at the end of my long driveway here in the Rural area.

Best wishes for all who enter.

Living in Va, we have traveled to NC & SC often over the years, and were so excited to learn the Green Home was in Hilton Head. We love, love, love this beautiful house! My husband and I both recently retired and I can't think of a better place to enjoy retirement! Good luck everyone - but watch out as I'll be entering every day and I plan on winning this one (lol) and I'll jump, scream, and maybe even faint if I do! Have fun!

Wow, wow, wow, and more wow. This is the perfect home green home inside and out. The person who wins this beauty will be able to afford to live in it, unlike the million dollar dream homes. The design inside and out is perfect for my taste. I hope we win, what a dream home to retire in. "I'm always's hopefull to win" but if not, I wish who ever wins is deserving of it and really appreciates this house. I wish them many blessings to go along with it. Great job designers and builders, you get high honors for this one.

Posted by Brenda – March 23, 2008 11:26 AM

well, I see many people have written and are anxious to see who wins this home. Good Luck to all !!!!
As for me, I would be happy to have any home. My hubby got injured in Army and we lost everything so we've been living here and there. Being homeless is an awful place for adults who had a great life and career. Having nothing to show for serving our country is depressing. Well, the fact that we have 2 kids having to deal with this loss along with us makes it even harder. Unfortunately, the only family that could take all 4 of us in to help us until we can start over, lives is in Puerto Rico. So obviously, we grabbed that life line. Come June 2008, we must move on. Where will we go? Hopefully to the US. Once again we will be starting over.Looking for a home, a job, a car, school for the kids etc. Living in PR hasnt been a vacation for us. We have dealt with the struggles of everyday living.(just like you and the next person.)
We cannot join all of you in dreaming of living in this GREEN HOME because the rules do not apply to Puerto Rico residents and staying here while we can, gives the kids some stablity, atleast til June. Its a catch 22 LOL. But like you we too dream of owning a place to call HOME where life no longer will seem GREENER on the other side. Anyway, Good Luck to all of you who dream and thanks HGTV for all the programs that help to keep the stress down. :0)Tammi

I love this home even better than the one in the Keys. I could definately see myself being very happy in this home with my son and dogs. It is charming and I love the fact that it is "Green" I love HGTV. I watch it 24/7. One can always dream.

My husband is preparing his Ping putter for use in the back yard! In the 360 deg. tour, we noticed solar panels on the roof. We can't wait to see the show premiering tonight, and see how much information Carter has on how much power is generated, and how effecient it is... Best of luck to all, this home is a KEEPER!

Posted by Charlene – March 23, 2008 2:08 PM

Would it be possible to do some sort of follow-up item on why the Dream Home's winner was so emotionless? Something on the Website that all would see?
Did she not want to win? And, did her husband, and some of those friends, who did seem happy, know that she had won? Or were they just alerted that there was a possibility?
Please, if possible, tell us something about the Iowa gal and why she seemed so sad. Thanx.

move over kixdonna,I'm a commin in!!!! The house is actually in Hardeville. But that is still nice and right at Hilton Head. As I said in my previous blog, I love the area. The pleasure of pulling in your own crab pots and a big pot of low country boil...lets just say it's as good as the sunsets off Palmetto Bay. And it's not too far to Savanna by water. It's a shame that HGTV didn't offer a boat. But I would love to retire there and trade the SUV for a boat. love to all, Laura

Dear HGTV,
You guys have done a wonderful job on the green house here in South Carolina. It is amazing what it can do to help our environment! Hooray you are giving regular people a chance to live in it!
I've watched HGTV for years entered in many contests and done a lot of praying!
My husband and I were born and raised here in the upstate. We have raised our children here.
WE worked through many rough times. But over the last 8 years -I lost my job of 20 years, became disabled,we lost our house, went bankrupt. To top it all off I was in a bad car accident in Nov. that broke my left hip and my pelvic in 5 places. That will take me at least a year and a half to come back from. I can really see myself sitting on the veranda overlooking the water while my body is on the mend and my husband would be overjoyed to know retirement is no longer a worry. Please consider us seriously!! I'll still be entering and praying.
Sincerely,Mona

I would love to make everyone green with envy by winning this house. Anyway good luck to everyone, this is a very nice house to have a chance to win.

Posted by Mo – March 23, 2008 8:51 PM

I guess I am not that green. I would have to de green some of the materials to suit my life style. I don't take my shoes off, so I guess I would ruin the whole Leed Certifcation. Just not my life style. Also I wish they would change designers. I don't like the color pallet of the last few homes. They are very pretty, just not me. I love the energy savings, just not sold on Linen for furniture.

Also I wish they would put in a King Size bed in the homes, nobody sleeps on a double bed any more.

But thanks for the ideas. Love the concept with some expceptions.

Posted by irchr – March 23, 2008 9:37 PM

House is nice and the green aspect of the house is great however the decorating is not a look I care for. I would of expected bamboo floors in a green home. Everything seems to come from a flea market and it shows. Green does not mean cheap old flea market stuff. I would take the home and dump the furniture. They need a real designer on the show. Curtains on the lower cabinets is very cheap and tacky. I will take the house but dump everything they put in it!

Posted by CAH – March 23, 2008 9:41 PM

Once again, with no cash prize, everyone is ignoring the tax consequences of winning this home. There is likely to be a $250,000 income tax bill in addition to all the closing costs, ongoing upkeep, property taxes, etc. Only one winner in the history of HGTVs contests has been able to keep the house. That's sad. I don't understand why they don't add a cash prize to cover the taxes.

Posted by Jim M – March 23, 2008 9:42 PM

how big is the lot size? is it a zero lot like other tradition communtities, or do you actually have some space...what about across the pond, will homes be built their and ruin the view, or is it a protected nature preserve

Dear HGTV
i think its great what your doing to the green house in hilton head south car. the reason id like to win , the green house is because i raise five children on my own i am coming close to retire and have no income to retire and i fell that this house would be affordable to me n help me in many ways.and i would also have lots of room for all my children and grandchildren to come and visit. with it being enviormentally friendly it would be a great place for all the kids and make everything affordable. its also with in great dostance for my kids to be able to come. This house has everything i can only dream of .

I think the green house is a crock!!! Come on, get real, re-used furniture and saying , hey this is green !!! Oh well.Guess they no chance I'll win, because I don't believe in all this climate change crap.

Just watched the Green House special. Although I have viewed the home several times and watched a whole lot of videos; the show was great! They hit it... HGTV Green is "Main Strem". Beautiful, functional and best of all great for the envirnment (and great on the pocketbook).
Thanks for educating us more on ways that we can protect our earth.

I enjoy almost every single day , from 4-6 hours, watching HGTV. I'm a retired registered nurse who enjoy doing all my house chores while my TV is on in HGTV.
My question for somebody who cares to answer:
WHY PUERTO RICO RESIDENTS ARE EXCLUDED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GREEN HOUSE CONTEST???????

I WANT TO PARTICIPATE TOO, AS A VIEWER OF THE CHANNEL AS EVERYONE ELSE.....

I only enter for the homes in locations I would desire to spend time with my family and friends.
Sounds like people think entering a blog helps.
Really/ probably not. Don't think I have ever won anything big. I am blessed just the same.

God, this is a green home dream.Carter did you say you have a nice surprise for the lucky winner? Lucky them! The clubs will do just fine tee! tee!

Dear HGTV.....PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't use your designer "Linda" on any more of your homes ! Her use of color is horrible (who wants so much lime green in their home and especially on permanent fixtures like the countertops). And please tell her that just because there is a flat level space, it doesn't need to be filled with things/junk. Maybe she should watch some of the other HGTV design shows that stress "DE-CLUTTER". Real people don't live this way.

As a chemically sensitive person who can't even walk into most American homes because I get so sick from the toxic chemicals in building products, furniture, cleaning products, and other chemicals used in modern life, I'm very impressed by the details that have gone into the Green Home. I watch the Dream Home special every year, and salivate over the homes yet know I couldn't live in most of them due to my illness -- until the Green Home! I hope the person who lives this home really needs it -- if not me, then someone else who can breathe a little safer in this gorgeous house.

Tonight I tuned in to see the new HGTV Green Home. As Carter began the tour I could tell immediately that Jack Thomasson had designed the house and that Linda Woodrum had decorated it and sure enough, they did! Jack's homes always have SMALL rooms that look closed-off and cramped--despite the windows--and look like they belong to a weekend cabin & look like there is hardly any room for furniture. And stainless steel appliances? U-G-L-Y ! Linda's style is classically hers--gaudy, very cluttered, drab. Recycling furniture doesn't mean it should look like it was freshly dragged out of the dump. And, as usual, Linda crams TOO much in each room-- how in the world are people supposed to sit without hitting their knees on the coffee table? What kind of homes do Linda and Jack live in? Certainly NOT family homes with large living areas where everyone congregates and watches TV and plays games. HGTV, you've used these two people too much-- PLEASE get a different decorator(so-called) and architect. The concept of the green home is great but as usual, these two just don't have it going on!

This house is wonderful for me and my family. Just the right size and comfortable. I'm all for energy efficient and save, save, save. But most important safe for the enviroment. I see some of the wonderful decor and all the great latest electical gadgets they added but my concern which I haven't heard is the foundation of the house. Is it a manufacture house or concrete? Knowing Florida is a huricane landmark... how safe is it? Oh and Green is my favorit color. Also, is it safe for a handicap child with Autisim? My dream is to have a wonderful home like the Green Home and live mortgage free. We live in florida and haven't been to Disney World yet, can't affort it. This is a house that should be made all over but affordable for low income families. This should be the future houses for everyone. Wonderful house HGTV! Bravo!

Posted by Artista – March 24, 2008 1:58 AM

This home is just perfect for me my children and my grandchildern as we all like to fish and watch beautiful sunrises and sunsets. We could have a wonderful time and many precious moments to remember in such a beautiful and peaceful place. And this home could give us all of that. I can't say this home is MINE because i don't know if it will be or not but it sure would make all my dreams come true if it is. Maybe if the Lord see fit to do so.

Posted by Ouida – March 24, 2008 5:18 AM

Seriously, stop it with the sob stories and giving your life details to improve your chance of winning because it is not going to work. Do you think you are the only people entering who are having tough times. HGTV is not going to pick you because you have a lot of grandchildren or your husband was in the military or whatver else. If you are meant to be chosen, you will be, end of story.

With that being said, the home is great! It is so beautiful and I would love if I was the winner and I would definitely at least act like I didn't already know you picked me and scream and cry and go crazy because that is what I really would be doing when I first found out it was me! And I don't care what ya'll say...I LOVE the Yukon!!
Good Luck to everyone!!

I remember 35 or so years ago I worked for the Sierra Club going around Southern California trying to educate people about the green house effects on our earth. How people were destroying the earth with pollutants etc. I had door's slammed in my face, I was called an idot, people let their dog's chase me off their property. It took a long time but finally I see people are taking it serious. I would love this home, nothing more said.

I love everything about this house - the architectural style, the decor, and the location. It has a warm, inviting ambience and the usage of windows is fabulous. What a great promotion to demonstrate "green" homes.

Enable 3rd party cookies to re-enter sweeps easier. You may attrack malware by doing this, so I don't. Using the long form is safer.

The home is in Hardeeville, SC, 15 miles from Savannah and HH. The community/shops, etc are 'planned', ie, in the future.

Downsides: there will be mega contruction for many moons. two story, not one story. No direct access into home from garage. No microwave. Electric cooktop, not gas cooktop... bummer! Outside areas are beautiful, but so not practical in South Carolina bc of heat, humidity, no see'ums, mo skeetoes, deer flies, yada.

I demand to know why you must be 21 years or older to enter this sweepstakes, I am a legal 18 year old voting, tax paying citzen of the United States and I deserve an entry into the HGTV Green Home Sweepstakes.

Oh my gosh, I am so excited about this house! I LOVE the idea of a green home, I watched the show last night and just love it. The fact that the rain water is collected for future use is awesome, solar panels on the roof, natural cotton and linens, low toxin paint, anti-bacterial counters??!! It's a mom's dream home for sure!!! And the South Carolina Hilton Head area is just beautiful, I've visited with friends over the years and the bike paths are great, the beaches are wonderful, there's just so much to do (but of course, lying on a sandy beach is my preference!). Thank you HGTV for building this GREEN HOME, what a wonderful idea and a beatiful house!
I'm curious, how many times did other people enter for the Dream Home? I entered everyday and filled out 100 postcards. Someone else posted that they send in 2000 postcards!! Wow! Do the postcards even get into the drawing?? Should I bother this time? Certainly I'll continue to enter online everday. :-)

This is another beautiful HGTV home. Good luck to all who enter. I hope everyone continues to dream. There is always next year for the dream home, but now I am focusing on the GREEN home. I love the cubby for the kids. It is too cute. The design is really functional and fits a family life style. I also love all of the outside living spaces. We live more outside than we do inside and this is just perfect for that type of life style. I unfortunately missed the show, but hopfully I will get to see it during one of its viewings later on. It is really exciting to see all of the ways we as individuals can be green one step at a time. Great job!!! Love it and will enter every chance I get. Thanks.

Hey bloggers:

I agree be thankful if you win anything.
If they added a cash award it would raise your taxes even more, like most said if you win you won't be able to afford the taxes, but you will get something out of it.

My big concern is that all the home give aways dont seem to care about the disabled, be it HGTV DIY, I am sure out of the 40 million that enter many are disabled and would be able to get in the house to see it. IAM NOT POSTING MY WOES OF BEING DISABLED JUST STATING A FACT.

This house is beautiful and very ECO friendly, but agree the color dheme in the last few houses is not my cup of tea.

Ilove to read the blogs and blog myself, but feel only the blogers read it, not anyone from the cable channel.

HGTV!!!! I'm in loveeeeeee!!! I just finish watching the special on the Green Home and I think that Linda and Jack did a sensational job. I love evrything about the house. I love the fact that there's so much natural light, I love the Solar Panels and the fact that we can make money by having it them. I love the open air kitchen, I love the pantry you can walk in get whatever you want to start your meal or your Margaritas, But what really sold it for me was the Master Bathroom see my dream has always being to own a Bathtub just like that one, I can just picture myself taking long baths, And the outside, Can we talk Golf, with my very own little Golf cart. HGTV you can pat yourself's in the back. This by far is one of your best Homes.

Wow, that Green Home is beautiful! And the location is amazing! I love the fire pit area... could definitely kill a lot of time out there by the fire pit, sippin' sweet tea and enjoying the sights and sounds of the area. I'd like to know more about that water way.
The prize drawing makes me nervous this time around though. It's hard enough when your name isn't picked as the winner, but to be a "finalist" with like 5 others and then have to "picked" again. Eeek! Oh the pressure! LOL But, I can understand them wanting a little more drama and realism this time around.
Good work HGTV, the home is amazing. Thank you!

This home is me!!! I have a small, renovated 200 yo barn that I filled with nothing but consignment and tag sale finds! Last night as they were unveiling and taking us through this magnificent home, I was thrilled to see that decorators are now utilizing the precious finds that others discard. I'm a firm believer in recycling and caring for Mother Earth...
THANK YOU HGTV!!!

I wish everyone who enters the best of luck. This is a great opportunity. Because I lost my mother in 2006 to a liver disease that I was told was caused by toxins and chemicals that were inhaled over a long period of time, she was a housekeeper for over 25 years and believed in getting down on her hands and knees to clean with rags and sponges, never mops. I am most thankful to God that every situation has a light and a purpose. After the devistating loss, I became more concious of the environment, chemicals, toxins and organic products. I am sure that everyone who enters has a reason. I am sure that this a plan. I am surprised to see people entering with such negativity. To those of you who enter but still have negative words and thoughts, do yourself a favor, stop entering. Positive attracts positive and negative attracts negative. You are wasting your time if you enter than doubt or have something negative to say, it cancels your chances out, so it is just like you never entered! Just know that God is in control, not HGTV, God has already chosen the person not based on need or what you like but your relationship with him. Blessings to all!

Love

yahoo search Hardeeville, SC. Pop was around 1700 in 2000. There's a link for demographics.
Shopping, restaurants, grocery stores, drs, and dentists are nil.
HGTV once had a 'what happened to former dream homes'. Each had been sold by winners. I don't know about the last dream home, but most prior dream homes also included $200,000 for taxes, etc.
Prop. taxes in Hardeeville are probably 3 dollars a year. We're talking ruralville.
I'm grateful for what I have and where I am. I don't want to win.
I do hope those lamps in the master have a switch on the cord, the 'fronds' would kill! ooo'd and ah'ed over the glass base lamps with stripped tin shades. way kewl.
Yes there's a master closet. It's a step or two outside the m/br. It's off the master in a short hall from the living/dining. The floor plans are on line at hgtv.

Morning Everyone!!!! Was last nights tour of the green home just spectatular? I have to hand it to Linda, Jack and everyone with HGTV for the making of this green home. What I really liked was how Linda, Jack, and Carter gave us many suggestions of going green around our own houses with little effort and realizing how much we were already doing that we didn't even realize was considered green. I just hope that the winner of this home really appreciates all of the hard work, effort and education that Linda and Jack put into this home and most importantly this is our future.

Linda Woodrum's work on the Dream Homes is extraordinary! She's a wonderful designer with a flair for casual elegance. Here color sense, the use of fabric, the mixture of contemporary and antique pieces is just perfect. We wait with excitement to see what Linda will do with each new HGTV Dream (and now Green) Home! HGTV is fortunate to have her on their team. Thanks for inspiring us Linda!
