What's that large body of water behind the Green Home? To get the answer, I spoke with Tradition Hilton Head's landscape designer Richard Loudin.

"The lake behind the Green Home is a freshwater, man-made lagoon. It is approximately 100 acres of water and will grow considerably as the development moves forward," says Loudin. "You can kayak, canoe and fish all you want. However, we do have alligators and I would not suggest swimming."

The community is designed to collect storm water from streets and store it in a network of retention ponds (the lagoon behind the Green Home is one of these ponds). This water is used to irrigate lawns throughout the community.

The irrigation system also helps conserve water by automatically restricting watering during wet weather. The system's high-efficiency heads direct the proper volume of water exactly where it’s needed.

"The re-use irrigation system is the first residential system in the state of South Carolina that uses reclaimed water from our local utility provider to irrigate residential yards," says Loudin. "We'll also use this system for irrigation of the golf course and common areas throughout the community. By using this water we conserve drinking water that is usually used for irrigation."

Living in Fl we know the irrigation system in this development will not only save water, but will also save the residence money. This is a BIG GREEN PLUS! We are impressed with the house and the view is outstanding. This is the life for me.

Will boats be allowed in the lake, and are there fish in it? I feed the fish in the creek behind our home... in the 'swimmin' hole, it's better than having to care for a fish tank!
Posted by Charlene – March 28, 2008 1:58 PM
Charlene, according to Richard Loudin, there are fish in the lagoons (see above). I'd recommend contacting Tradition Hilton Head for your question about boats. That would definitely be a decision made by the community, not by HGTV. Here's the number for their Sales Office: 843-208-5333

Kelly, thanks for all the questions you're answering.
What is the size of the lot that the Green Home sits on? I would guess 1/4 of an acre???
Posted by Salim Khalil – March 28, 2008 3:46 PM
I know that the house is green, but will they be using sustainable (and non-toxic) methods on the nearby golf course? In other words, no pesticides or chemical fertilizers that would leach into the water, etc.
Posted by Denise – March 28, 2008 4:29 PM
It is a beautiful site. Just wondering if Homeowners would be able to construct a dock from the property? Thanks HGTV for this awesome opportunity.

Took the tour again. I do everyday. It's beautiful. One thing I would hope they do on the lake would perhaps allow electric boat motors only if they allow boats and not gas powered so as not to pollute the water, the fish etc. I just love "everything" about this green home. As does everyone. The care, thought, and concern that went into every single aspect of this is tremendous. Everyone involved at HGTV is amazing. Every time I take the tour, I find something else I like so much. However, I do think my favorite is the rainwater collection system, along with the solor power, along with the refinished furnitures, the bed, the flooring, the....ok all of it. Have fun everyone, good luck to all and thanks HGTV.

This water system is fantastic. What a great idea. I took the tour again, do everyday. Love the landscaping. I do have some palm trees that need a lovely tropical climate. They don't grow well in Michigan outside, as a matter of fact, they dont grow at all outside, so yes, they are inside. I have grown them from seeds. My understanding is that's not an easy task, but I think I had a little help from above. As for boats on the lake, if they do allow them I would hope they would be electric motors only, so as not to pollute the waters with gas powered boats. What a wonderful community this will be when finished. I am ready to retire, and I am more than ready to get out of Michigan. Good luck everyone and thanks HGTV. You've thought of everything on this one. Everytime I watch I see something else I like.

This home is like heaven to me. Everything I would ask for in a home. I love the idea of being as green as you can. One question that I have is that if there are aligators, wouldn't that pose a threat to any children or animals? What would keep them from coming up into the yard?
Posted by Mary Sekely – March 28, 2008 8:40 PM
KELLEY ! VOLIA! I have my pole and I'm ready, the place is so placid, serene, and breath taking.I could fish all day,but at night those gators would be smacken on me.The pictures are intrigiuing.Your very efficient and proficient at what you do. Keep up the great job!!!

Lovely home, amazing porch! Love the outside looking onto the lake. Really love the kitchen!
We are ready to move south, this last Wisconsin winter really made me realize it is time. Our kids went to Myrtle Beach and said that would be a good place to retire but this looks to be an area that would suit us more. It would be interesting to see on the website the size of the rooms and any other fun facts that you could provide. Thanks HGTV, this is always fun!

Just took another tour of the house, and think the home is beautiful.I would only hope the area remains as natural and beautiful in the future. I was wondering if information on the size of the house (square footage) could be known?

The greenhome is so, nice and beautiful, there wasn't anything in or outside of the home I didn't love about this house.Dreaming of living the home put me to sleep each night. Aswell, as to knowing how much love is coming out of hearts of the people making it happen for everyone whom will win one of these beautiful homes. Praying I'll be one of them ; makes me happy to enter the web pages each day and look for new ideas for the clinets I work for in may crafting works.Thank you for this opportunity to dream again, and good lunk to all.HGTV.com is the best.I'm coming Nebraske with love!

I just looked through the pictures again. The stone work is breath-taking to say the least. As I said previously, every time I look at it, I see something I just love. The metal roof is wonderful, and logical. Oh my GOD this home is gorgeous. I hope whoever wins it will take care of it, live up to what it represents and continue to support taking care of our environment. Good job HGTV>

Kudos to HGTV! This home and the Tradition H.H. community are an answer to a prayer for someone like me who has been told she has COPD. I realy like the Master tub, kitchen sink,pantry,washer/dryer,all the windows,THE VIEWS, the Healthy home/furnishings/environment.
You all did your homework on this build and everyone who desires to be a good steward of God's Green Earth will be very proud to own this home. ME FOR EXAMPLE!!
Best wishes to all who enter!

Thank you Kelley!
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and the number to call for info. When I posted my questions yesterday, I didn't see any pictures up, and I also noticed (under the picture) that canoes, kayaks, etc. are allowed, which answered my other question. I wouldn't consider a motor boat in anything other than the ocean. As for the alligators, my husband was born in Miami, and has wrestled them before, so if they ever come ashore, they are his problem! LOL

This home has wonderful design features, use of space and...is eco-friendly! Love the fact that it is "green" taking into account the families needs vs. cost of living and respect towards the environment. (A little fencing to keep out the gators would be a nice touch for both the protection of the residents and the gators!) For a single parent, such as myself, this home would be an answer to prayer. Thanks for all you do in engineering these projects and the opportunity to make someone's life a lot nicer!

I love this home! I am an outside summer person! I can't beleive the reasons people give for entering to win ! Some things are either lie's or really personal from the world! Do they realize that if they should win that they are responsible for the tax & insurance. Could they even move or even efford to travel there. Get off the pitty party! A winner should be so excited that they almost wet their pants. HGTV should be tired of doing all the work for a free giveaway and having to drag out a simple "Thank You". I didn't win the Lake Lure Home which was a dream come true for our family but this Green Home is another absolutely georgeous creation. I know there are those who go over board to enter and I am giving you a run for you chances. Good work Linda. I love the interior but I really want to utilize the porch and outside fireside. dee

Hi, I'm Laura everyone, I used to come to this area alot in the 90's. I just fell in love with it. I am so glad to see a development going up in Hardeville like this. I grew up on the ocean and am landlocked in Tennessee. It's beautiful, but nothing like the ocean. To anyone who has not been to Hilton Head, it is an island and there are some beaches there that are so beautiful!!!! The water gets so warm that you think that you are in a hot tub. I miss the ocean so much. HGTVhas totally hit my nail on the head. This house is the best and the most economical of all of their homes. To think that it is all Green is an honor to our world and an example that if it can be done, it should be done. Like they said in the videos, people should demand it if they are going to have a home built. Heres to you HGTV!!! I love you all.

My husband and I are married for 41 years, we have two grown up kids and two grandkids (girls)who loves dogs.(they have two dogs)We would love to have this great beautiful home, so the entire family could be together.
I wolud love to have this home in my father's honor. Sometimes I feel his presence.

Somewhere it says that the house is 2000 sq. ft. There is a Master Closet, it's between the doorway from the hall to the bedroom and the bathroom. If you read the above it states that there are indeed alligators, it's a manmade lake, etc.. Do you guys actually read any of the things that they post before you comment??
I asked once before, in the blue prints of the second floor there looks to be a room next to the kid's room cubby. I didn't see any way to access that area. It has three windows, one facing the lake and two on either side. Is that like an attic space or crawl space of some sort? Could it be made into a bedroom, b/c if it could be it would have the best view in the house and it would answer a lot of the questions and space problems that have asked/stated. Regardless though, the house is beautiful and I am constantly amazed at the new ways to make your home green. If you were looking to find a Green General Contractor where would you look?
Good luck to all! Thank you HGTV for the oportunity to hope and dream for something that some of us may never be able to have any other way. Even if we don't win, it's an exciting reprieve from the normal hum drum of everyday living. You guys are awesome!!

I just watched to video again, and viewed some of the pictures. Every single time I watch it I fall in love with something else. The claw foot tub....Oh my gosh it's gorgeous. I have a garden tub in my home now that I do not use because as far as I am concerned it is a waste of water to fill a garden tub. I love the claw foot. I love Carters table. I love the picture of the horses..(not cows) in the master, and the green lamps, I would love be able to purchase those. Just breathtaking, all of it. HGTV...GOOD JOB!!!

Just fabulous! I have been looking around the Carolina's to move to, thinking about my future retirement. Lovely, well decorated home! Everyone needs to think about our resources to make it last for the generations to come. HGTV has brought "Green living" to the attention of the American people that you CAN live in luxury while re-using our resources. I am a lady golfer that lives in the Detroit area and loves the water. Beautiful appointed "Green" home, golf cart and a SUV this is so perfect for me. If I win, I will be so excited and so grateful!

Living "up north", and looking out my window at the snow (and hearing the wind), I'm loving every minute of taking the HGTV Green Home tour! What daydreams it brings. Kudos to HGTV for doing a green home this year! It's absolutely gorgeous, and beautifully decorated and landscaped. It's obvious a ton of thought and effort went into the design and construction of this beautiful home. Luck to all who enter, and thanks HGTV!

Where can I get the plans for this house? I would like to build a house just like this one.
Posted by Barbara – March 31, 2008 7:06 AM
I enter everyday like most others do. This is such of a wonderful home and terrific idea that I hope continues with the passing years. I did read above that the lake has alligators and my only concern would be maybe a fence for boundary issues with them and possibly keeping children and pets safe?
Posted by Michelle – March 31, 2008 7:54 AM
I just took the tour again, and I do have a question. Are the plants inside the house real plants? I hope they are. I have over 20 plants, 6 of which are palm trees grown from seed (at about 4 ft), bamboo, peace plant, my madagascar dragon trees are over 7 ft tall and not far from my ceiling. All of my plants are tropical plants, but they do NOT go outside here, and I love them. As far as the alligators, you just make sure they don't have bait, as in "little dogs" etc. Alligators will not bother people, it is when people feed them, they become not afraid, and if they are hungry??.....so 'DON'T FEED THE ALLIGATORS'!! Well, this tour brought another round of "I like thats"..1) the fold out laundry rack, much better than hangars 2) glass jars for storage in pantry...I use them now, just not as nice as those. 3) the low county picture is beautiful 4) and I love the fact that the living room, dining room, kitchen are all open. How much home does someone need?? Oops guess that depends on kids..well, when you get a lttle older you begin to realize that there are things more important than others. Quality not quantity for one. Let us all hope and pray that whoever wins this home, first and formost will honestly and adamantly live up to its standards, and then pehaps volunteer in the community to be an advocate for HGTV's good work here. Good luck to all.

Ok, another question or two. Is there room to put a pool in ground?(don't really know if one would want to), and can't remember the other question, but I'll think of it I'm sure and get back to ya...wishing a good, and healthy day to all.
Posted by deb – March 31, 2008 8:37 AM
What is behind the door in the cubbyroom? Is it another closet for the bunkroom?
Can it be used for storage or a hobby room?
Love the house and hope to retire to that area.

I concur with her on the weather and the rodents/snakes/alligators. I would definitely stay indoors during the summer and enjoy it the rest of the year. I would rather spend the summers up north in the Pennsylvania or Catskill Mountains, or even Maine. I can't take the heat. But it would be a lovely home to return to each Fall.

We visited the home on Saturday, March 29, and enjoyed the tour very much. We are currently building a "green" home of ICF construction in the mountains. It was good to see some of the ideas in the home. Where can I get information on the exterior light fixtures and the lantern style wall fixtures in the great room? Also, interested in the source for the drying rack in the laundry room. Your volunteers/tour guides were very friendly but they need to be given more details about the house to answer questions of the visitors. Thanks for a neat house to see.

Hi, I can take the weather and bugs, insects and most animals. In Louisiana we have all of them. Just love the house and lake, so peaceful. After Katrina we should all build Green. Good Luck to everyone.

I read that someone asked about electric motorboats, I'd wish for a quiet place, no noise pollution. That would be more in line with the green house theme. Row boats or kayaks would be better.

This home is goregous! I love the area. A friend of mine has a condo nearby. It's nice, but not quite like this. Just wondering, what is the total sq. footage of the home? And how many homes are in the development. I didn't see that info anywhere. Thanks!

It is a beautiful house and whomever wins would be so lucky to have such a green house. I would be exstatic to win such a house. I live in the Pa, Lake Erie area and would so enjoy the weather, even in the summer with 100% humidity. I have 2 Blue & Gold Macaws that would love it also, being on the veranda's in the beautiful sun filled afternoons. Good luck to all and thank you HGTV.

Posted by Denise – March 31, 2008 3:07 PM
what a great house. and dont worry about the snakes, you just have to look where you stepping and the alligators, well as long as you dont jump in the lagoon with them, you'll be alright.we live in florida and we have to deal with that everyday. how much are the taxes per year on this property? are there any yearly tax credits due to it being a "green house"?

To the comments about the Hot weather, the Humidity, alligators, rodents and insects.
I use to live in Maryland and Washington., DC where the weather is known to get very Hot and Humid.
The pollen so bad, I'd wash my car in the early morning before sun rise and by noon my car would be so yellow from pollen.
I had been living in Rural Pennsylvania for the last 7 years and I can't stand the cold, damp wet and snowey weather.
It's been four days now since spring was supposed to start and it's still cold and wet.
We usually only get about two months of nice warm weather and thats it.
I love to go down to the Hot Humid weather. I LIKE HEAT!!!! Let me know when I win this gorgeous home and I'm outa here!!

We just came from touring the "Green House" in what is clearly not Hilton Head. Closer to Beaufort, SC that Hilton Head.
As for the Lagoon....The builders of this community of current population of one family, admitted to putting dye in the blue lagoon to make it blue instead of brown. How green is that?
In addition, does anyone remember the land scams in Arizona in the 1960's with buyers being encouraged to buy lots and develope them later when they retired. Well, this community also allows people to purchase lots with no restrictions on developing them. Lesson not learned.
As for the "Green House", Arizona has long used recycled water to irrigate the golf courses. Not a new concept. In addition, many communities have been built using greenbelts and neighborhood markets since the the 1990's. Mississaga Ontario is a nice example.
So what's new?. Engineered floors that don't stand up to the tour traffic (the finish is eroding on the stairs and damamged in many places). Compact Fluorescent light bulbs are available to all and used in many homes. My own home is 11 years old with the insulation used in this house.
I am very dissappointed in HGTV for becoming the adverstisement for a community that is not any greener than many in the US. and is being exploited by the builders of this community to sell lots and homes.

Why would you put alligaters in the pond? Wont you be afraid that the alligaters will come on shore?? But I LOVE THE HOUSE!!!! I LOVE IT!! It's so eco friendly!! It's AWESOME!
Posted by Isable – March 31, 2008 6:15 PM
I noticed the comments from Mia about the heat in the summer and I also noticed the fans situated around the inside and outside of the house. Does this mean that the house does not have central air conditioning? I was also wondering about the closet in the bunk room as well. I don't really like the idea of tv in the kid's room, but I guess that can be changed. This house is absolutely gorgeous!!! I couldn't stop thinking about it all through today. This would be a blessing for a grandmother, single mom, and her little boy.
p.s. a fence for the alligators would be a bonus too!
Posted by Amanda – March 31, 2008 6:47 PM
HGTV it's lovely. You have built my home just the way I wanted it!! Thank you. I wouldn't change a thing, except add a welcome mat at the door and a few flowers! I can't wait for my personal tour!!! Can't wait!

Dee: I'm not sure if you want the alligators to eat me or if you want to cook me on the BBQ. But you make me laugh, and I love you for that. Let's get back to the Green Home. Isn't it wonderful? My favorite so far, the Living Room and the Screened Porch. Least favorite, the clutter on the counter on each side of the stove. Linda, what were you thinking? Why did you put a lamp at the corner of the counters when there are three pendant lights over the counter? I love the slide show pics, and am going to review the mysterious cubby. Haven't seen it yet. God Bless you all, and especially HGTV.

First of all I want to give HGTV KUDOS!!! on the green home. A very beautiful home. I have been suffing the green home site and watching quite a few videos and researching Tradition Hilton Head. The home, from what I recall is 2000 square feet. There is no need for a pool in the back since the communities club/spa is a few blocks away with 2 pools, one inside and one outside. As for the electric/motor boats being allowed on the pond, that would defeat the whole purpose of row boating and kayaking on the body of water provided; don't want to create wake - that would not be fun. I am sure that you can have motor/electric boats on the ocean which is not that far away... 20 min.? As for what is behind the door in the cubby, I saw on one of the green home videos on the site, the tankless water heater is located there and other mechanical things from what I saw; most likely the mechanicals for the solar panels since the panels are right above that part of the house.
I would like to know the ordinance of the community; especialy where it comes to fences, but I am sure one can be provided or it can be answered by the sales office, which Kelley kindly posted on this blog earlier... "the number for their Sales Office: 843-208-5333."
As for the lot size, I don't think one needs much especially since so many area's will be provided for outdoor recreation, national parks, playgrounds, pool and spa, golf course. Plus with that view of the pond who would want more, also who would want to start a lawn mower in the humidity to mow all that land and keep it up... plus all the energy and fuel wasted on mowing... not too green. This is suppose to be a simple, cleaner, greener life with what you just need. De-clutter your life and go back to the basics. Good Luck to us all and ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!! :) Once again thank you HGTV to showing us all a simplier, greener life is possible. :)

What can I say both my daughters and I took the tour with such excitement. It was hard for me to even keep them level headed that we have not won it yet! After, they left I sat there with tears in my eyes wishing for a house as wonderful as this one! Good luck to everyone! Whomever wins is very fortunate!

Posted by lisa – April 1, 2008 7:50 AM
Oh my gosh!!!! Unbelievable. I took the tour again Every single thing that could ever be thought of,has been. I absolutely love the fact that everything is withing walking distance. Not much into golf, (putt-putt maybe), but guess I could try, however, the fitness center, now thats me. Port St. Lucie, is gorgeous, it literally took my breath away. LITERALLY. What a place to retire to. This is like the most perfect place for retirement. My heart is in the south, I love the Atlantic Ocean, and I feel so at peace near the ocean and in the south. I have always felt just a little out of place here in Michigan, and when I get south of the Ohio river, I feel like I am home. Oh to dream. Good luck to all.

I think the house is lovely, I hope everyone has a real chance to win,if this is only for publicity, how disappointing for the people who go to the public library, because they do not have a computer, or internet service at their home. If it is for real, HGTV is more than my favorite network, they are angels.

Fell in love the first time the green home aired on tv. Knew a little about green, but this home has surely opened my eyes. The home is roomy but still cozy with everything anyone would need. My husband flipped over the golf cart and the fact that golfing is nearby. Thought the home in Lure, NC was the best until I saw the GREEN HOME. I'm packed and ready to go, just give me a call.

The house is beautiful, but with allegators and all, is it safe to have the Green Home so close to the water's edge? Will it be safe for children and pets?
Posted by Sandy – April 1, 2008 1:51 PM
I worked as a City Manager for 20 years. I wish more cities would write their ordinances to require "green Home" construction. I don't think most people realize how beneficial this is to the environment and to the lucky people who live in one of these homes.

GREAT JOB EVERYONE!!!

CAROLINA: What a wonderful informative post. Thank you. I have been wondering about A/C....is it at least available in the summer months? If not, I would have to hire a house sitter and spend the summer back home in Michigan visiting my family and friends, as I would expect them all visiting me in winter, and we have a very long winter. The GREEN HOME is amazing! Love the living room and the screened porch and the stools at the bar, but wonder about the chairs covered in fabric around the dining table? HGTV, wonder if you plan (fingers crossed) to make this GREEN HOME an annual event. If so, how far north could you go and still make it green? Thank you, HGTV, and Good Luck to all and pleasant dreams.

SHE'S one lucky gal. It's like winning the lottery. What a headache with the economy who's buying only the wealthy.God I hope were not headed for a recession.Anyway the company who built the home would rebuy them? It's really a dream for others a nightmare.Fare market value?????Lucky????

This gorgeoous home is so effiient friendly and 'easy living'. Love it. I remember going to Hilton Head in my 20's, while back, as 56 now, but would certainly love to make this my home. At first thought may be on beach, but this beautiful lake is fine. A lovely, sereve place. I will pray and hope, again...as so many others.I am happy for the couple that won the one in Keys - boy what a house, this is more my speed and "anything green" makes more "green in the ole pocket"!!! I believe in GREEN. Thank you for another BEAUTY. I do wonder, when everything is so efficient an approximate figure of property values, also a 1/4 lot? That would be even better, to me! Joyce
Posted by Joyce – April 1, 2008 11:08 PM
This home is beautiful as well and so serene. Efficient is always better as money is tight now, and sure in a recession. I thought it may be on the beach when first saw, but a nice lake is fine. Cozy, comfortable, efficient energy and the floorplan is great. Love it. Joyce

KATYDID - the a/c unit is a Carrier from Sears. with the sq footage of the home I am assuming it is atleast a 2 ton, but with the 2 story living area it maybe a 3 ton. I was not able to locate the size of the a/c unit yet. I love the kitchen and my most fav is the bright green countertop in the master bath. :)

Have you all read the fine print in the rules? What are the taxes and costs associated with winning this home? One person asked this question but I did not see an answer. Most of the winners have had to sell their properties because of the taxes. Please disclose this.
Posted by Gordon W – April 3, 2008 11:04 AM
CAROLINA: Once again you came through for me about the A/C question. Thanks so much. I loved the kitchen, but I hope when you toured there was less clutter on the counters on each side of the stove. I have only had time to see the slide show pics of a few rooms. So I will look now at the master bath (shocking) counter color. I love the color green, in nature, decorating, and especially the GREEN HOME. Will catch the 4/4 program that I missed. HGTV is just the greatest.

~ as "Sweet Baby James" sings IN MY MIND I'M GOING TO CAROLINA... Such a beautiful home, such graceful and green living. With everyone across our country experiencing such increases in the gas, groceries, just the overall cost of living... This a home that a person with a regular average income I think could actually afford to keep, especially with the reduced cost of utilities. Going forward in life, this is clearly the way to live, less is more and to be mindful of our resources. Of course, I've always been in love with gracious, relaxing Southern-style of living... Thank you HGTV for the opportunity and something to dream about. Mother Nature must proud! :-) BRIGHT BLESSINGS!

I would not sell because it is an investment for your family. We have 2 teens and we cannot stress enough the values of reuse and recycle. My son is interested in engineering and loves the green house. It would be a great experience for whomever moves in. For our family it would mean a new experience in a new house (ours is 100 years old!)for another family a possible new way of green living. Good luck to all!

The gator part worries me. I lived in Flordia those creatures come up on land and they eat small animals. With no fences by that water, you could let your small dog(if you have one)out or a small child out in that backyard and get attacked by a gator. Plus I saw a gator where we lived come inland and did some mightly damage with their big old tails. Are fences allowed on your property?

Living in California and having visited Hilton Head many times (for vacation and golf) my wife and I have always said that it would be a great place to retire to.
Recently built an "off grid" home here in California, so am very familiar with pumping our own water, providing our own electricty (via photovoltaic panels) and "Living Green". Congrats to HGTV for educating America on the benefits of "Green" and sustainable living!

I would like to see a map to know exactly where this community is. Also, I am with the rest of you, if the lake is man-made why the gators? Will there be a gator-buster number left if it will be needed ? ;-) If there is damage because of the tours, will they be repaired for the winner? Things like taxes etc should be easily available in any home contest.
Posted by kit – April 5, 2008 12:07 PM
I am not sure about the taxes here, but I know someone on Hilton Head island and their taxes are $6,000 per year. Their house may not be exactly the same size,so maybe that's not accurate.

My husband and I bought a Hybrid in 2007 it was the best thing we ever did. It is a shame that the goverment does not give enough incentives to encourage more people to use other sources of energy. How is it that new homes built today are not encouraged to put in solar power? The houses are getting larger and the energy bills higher.

If boats are allowed, such as row boats or the such. and a dock, I think they should have been included in the prize package. There were boathouses and boats included in previous HGTV homes. Why wasn't this the case?

This would be one awsome home to own.

It doesn't matter that the lake is natural or man-made. Gators will find it. My sister lived in north Florida and had a small pond appear on her property after a heavy rainy season(never was there before). Next thing she had gators living in it. Guess gators are always on the look for vacancy signs.

Thanks so much for building a "green" home. It is beautiful. I try and go to the site everyday and take the tour. I wish my monitor was bigger so that I could see more at once. The house is just goregous. I love the location. I live in Conway, (just outside of Myrtle Beach). I have enjoy and love the other houses before and even hope to win one of them, but I told my husband and daughter that this is the ONE for us. I love this GREEN home more than anything of the past ones. I think it is because it is perfect for my family. I am a conservationist. I work with soil & water conservation for the past 17 years. Love to recycle and do everything good for the environment and natural resources. I have family from North Carolina, Texas, Ohio that loves Hilton Head, they could come and visit often. I love ALL of the HGTV shows. I work but when I get home that is the channel I watch. Even my husband watches them with me, we are always guessing which house especially on house hunters. (I am almost always right on this one). I have gotten so many great ideas on remodeling and decorating from these shows. They are the best. I would love and actually can't wait to sit on the porch with my husband to enjoy the peaceful night and the beautiful sunsets. I truly love everything about this home and who better to win this home than a conservationist of 17 years. I do wish everyone else good luck, but God willing, my family and I will be the lucky homeowners.
Thanks to HGTV for another gorgeous home. You always out do yourself.

This landscaping is gorgeous. I love this place.

The whole home is beautiful and I wouldn't change a thing, but this lake area is gorgeous. That's probably where you would find me. I would probably have to bring some meat to throw at the gators if they bothered me.lol. Love the home. It is absolutely gorgeous.

STACY: I hope you were joking about feeding the gators! That's the worse thing you can do! It's like feeding a cat tuna that you want to go away!

Does anyone know what the approximate taxes would be on this $850,000 prize?
Thanks!

Let's hope whoever wins this home does get an education on the gators. Dana is absolutely right. Everyone, please understand, DO NOT FEED THE ALLIGATORS. That is what makes them NOT AFRAID of people, then they start LOOKING for food. But that was not my reason for getting on this blog today. I just wanted to tell everyone, if you haven't taken the 'lagoon 360* tour, or viewed the other photos', you have to. Oh my gosh, if I were to win this home I would want copies of those photos. They are breathtaking.

I really do encourage everyone to view the other photos of the home at the top of this page. If you can't feel in your soul the beauty of this home, then you need to start at the beginning and learn it all. These pictures literally take my breath away. Excellant photography. Of course, it has been an excellant subject to photograph. Good going everyone.

geez deb downer! wah wah!
this house rocks! deb you have a problem! this house is beautiful, not overly huge, and was built with care for our earth in mind. i think it's fantastic and would d.i.e. if i won it! and yes, south carolina is hot, but i'm in mississippi and its way worse here, but you get used to the heat and the winters are great.

Jane, not sure what 'deb' you are referring to, since there are two of us. Capital D and little d.,neither one of us complained about humidity. I went back through the blogs, you may want to do that yourself, as you have the wrong person. I have lived in Texas, Louisiana and visited my dad in Florida. I am well aware of humidity. Maybe you need to read the blogs again and get it right before you comment.

I am so pleased at all of the special features that went into this home. I was wondering where a greenhouse would be added to continue the landscape opportunities? The garage has an extra area that could be utilized...or maybe something separate from the house...Shalom

As I have said before, the grounds on this home are just as beautiful as the home itself. Just breathtaking. I think the size, layout, decorating, landscaping, everything about it is fabulous, but some of the best things are the ones you can't really see.

I can't wait to win this green house. How exciting it will be to finally have another house to make into our home. I look forward to learning about every nook and corner and keeping it green for many generations to come!

I encourage bloggers to view the Traditions Hilton Head website, if you haven't yet. It's interesting to view the pictures of the progress made, month to month, in building homes and a community. It would be nice to move into an area and become part of the initial population that shows a warm welcome to future Traditions HH home owners.

What a wonderful home. As an elementary school teacher I try and stress the importance of green. Our Mother's Day project is a green project. This home is perfect for my family. My husband and two of my three boys have allergies and asthma. The air system seems to be ideal. The location is wonderful, especially because they are avid golfers. I would be proud to maintain such a environmentally friendly home.

The house is lovely and it is wonderful to see that there are so many people who are now looking at ways to save the environment. My husband is passionate about alternative energy, and has recently become a dealer for windmills. We have one on our land. The electricity we are generating and saving is great!! It sounds like this is a 1/4 acre lot. Would this support a 42 ft tall windmill for alternative energy?
Thanks for the opportunity to win this beautiful home!!!! B,

This is one of my favorite pages to visit, at least when I'm looking at it. Then, I go to another page and view it, and it's my favorite. It's really hard to pick out one thing about this home, everything in it is just wonderful.

Had to look at it again. It just takes my breath away, it is so beautiful. Wishing good luck and good health to everyone

I love just looking at thia home again and again. It takes me back to some good memories about watching the fire works over Palmetto Bay on the 4th of July and crabs steaming in the pots.Boat trips to Savanna and Buck Island. And some fun times at Shuckers. The sunsets there are so beautiful. You all should get in contact with Traditions Hilton Head and get the package in the mail about the entire Village there. It is just the best planned community that I have ever seen and being around the Real Estate business as much as I have, I know. It is really totally self sustaining. Honestly, for the person who wins, there is almost no need to leave. I am in LOVE and I mean it,you guys. Write soon and God bless.

Well, I have visited every page. This one does something to the soul. I can 'feel' this place. That is the best way to put it. I would be so very honored to win this home, but I am sure there are thousands that feel the same way. Good luck to everyone. Dreams do come true.

I love the picture of the sunset! I hope my husband and I get to actually sit in those chairs and watch a sunset for real!

Hey deb: did you notice that your post for May 1 and May 2 were at exactly the same time: 7:54 am. I thought that was pretty neat, did you plan it that way, lol. Good Luck All.
Posted by bird lover – May 2, 2008 4:35 PM
bird lover, no, I did not plan that. Didn't notice until I read your blog. Too funny. My husband gets up for work at 05:30, so I am up with him, fixing his lunch, etc, and after he leaves I am at HGTV. I'm almost pushing him out the door so I can get in here and read these. I am hoping that southern lady sends a blog in soon. I read your blog that the tornados went through AR. Hopefully, not near her. Drop a line in here southern lady, let us all know you are ok. Take care, and good luck to all.

Hey All; I have a prayer request for those of you who believe in it's power. My three week old great-grandson is in the hospital in Ann Arbor, in Mott's Childrens Hospital. He stopped breathing at home, but, started again just before the paramedics got there. He has been admitted for 72 hour observation and to run tests. They believe he has acid reflux which caused a seizure, but, won't know until all the tests are run. Please keep him and his mommy and daddy in prayer. They are only twenty and are pretty scared. (And, altho, I'm a great grandmother, I'm only 62. Started young, lol.) Seriously, this is a pretty serious situation, but, God can do all things and Aydn has been put in His care. Thanks a bunch.
Posted by bird lover – May 2, 2008 11:36 PM
bird lover, I am so sorry to hear about your great- grandson! I hope he recovers fast! Keep us posted please!
Posted by Dana Dryburgh – May 3, 2008 11:59 AM
deb, Maybe Southern Lady hasn't blogged because her electricity was knocked out by the storms. Stay positive!
Posted by Dana Dryburgh – May 3, 2008 12:02 PM
LOVED the tour and the green! Your architects, contractors and designers inside and out have created a wonderful oasis! Too many wonderful things to absorb on internet visit. This is truly a harmonic beautiful space!
Posted by Kimberly – May 3, 2008 1:49 PM
bird lover, I believe!! Aydn, mommy, daddy, and great-grandma are in my prayers. You and I both know he could not be in a better place. U of M is awesome. We will keep the prayers going. You take care of yourself too.
Posted by deb – May 3, 2008 2:23 PM
Has anyone heard from Southern Lady? I know where she lives in Conway, Ar, had some pretty bad storms, hope and pray she is ok.
Posted by bird lover – May 3, 2008 10:17 PM
Dana, I said a prayer for southern lady also. I thought the same thing, that maybe it's just the electricity out. Take care all and good luck all.

I won't bring anything with me but some of my clothes and my little Jersey Girl. A 12 lb Jack Russell (she was the runt), with the best personality and so well behaved. Her name is Jersey because when she was born, she looked like a little jersey cow. She is not an outside dog. Strickly inside, except to do her thing (little poop, and yes I pick it up). She would love to live here, and she would love to fall asleep in the sun on the screened porch.
Posted by deb – May 6, 2008 2:46 PM
The only things I would bring would be all my birds, of course they are the most important things that I own(or should I say own me, lol). Some clothes and personal items, like family pictures and a few treasures. Nothing else would be worth packing. Oh to dream.
