Sunset From the Veranda -- What a View!

Posted by kwalters – January 25, 2008 3:40 PM

We just got back from a week-long visit to the Green Home, where we were dotting all the i's and crossing the t's, making sure it's ready for its big debut.

HGTV viewers have the best taste! The exterior paint you chose suits the house and the surroundings perfectly. We can't wait for you to see it.

Until we can unveil the photos of the house, we wanted to share a picture of the sunset, taken from the veranda. Even during a cold, blustery week in January, the Low Country is a beautiful sight.

Greetings KWalters, We need to get confirmation on the sentence you wrote under the stunning picture you posted. You wrote: "Don't forget! Enter to win the HGTV Green Home 2008 plus a GMC Yukon Hybrid, starting March 21, 2008!"

Since when was a GMC Yukon Hybrid included in the Green Home prize? The 2008 "Dream" Home has a GMC Yukon Hybrid.

Would you please confirm if the Green Home is also getting a GMC Yukon Hybrid?

(I read in an article that a said the Green Home was including a 2008 Prius. That has not been confirmed.)
Which bit of information is true? Thanks, velvet350

Thank you so much for the beautiful picture! What a stunning view! I can't wait until March when we can see more. Thanks for helping me dream...

I think the florida house is nice but no where near as nice as last years home in Colorado. The bath in the master bedroom bugs me because the tub and shower are inclosed together ,who wants to dry the whole room after showering ?also no computers no tv in master room.the designer just has usless trinkets throught the home I think it would be nice to live there but the decor is some what boring. also there isn't the cash prize this year ? I also don't like the format for looking at the home last year was so much more .

OH to be home again, I miss SC. so bad you just don't know. This house would be such a blessing to me and my family. I can't wait to see the pictures of the house. thanks hgtv.

Velvet's confusion probably arises from the information on Tradition Hilton Head's website: "What’s more, each Tradition Hilton Head home will come with its own Club Car™ golf cart, providing clean, quiet transportation for all those around-town errands and visits." You'll note room for it in the garage. But a golf cart cannot provide long range highway transportion, so that Yukon would come in mighty handy. Thanks, GMC and HGTV!

Now THATS a pretty picture. Can't wait to see the rest of the house

Posted by debra – January 26, 2008 9:48 AM

Anxiously waiting for pictures of the green home. Show more scenery around the home if we can't see the home.

Posted by Karen – January 26, 2008 10:59 AM

I'm thrilled that you are building and calling attention to a "green home". My husband and I would love to build our own within the next year in the Spokane, WA area. Right now it's around 0 (temperature wise), and it just doesn't make sense to us to continue using fossel fuels to the tune of $160.00 per month, year around! We're both living on modest incomes and we've about reached our limit concerning how far we can stretch our dollars. I know that we're not the only ones! That is why your program is SO important! I think our economy in the United States is at the brink or ABSOLUTELY needing a break from the decimating influence of foreign oil. Not to mention our poor atmosphere! Wouldn't it be fantastic if your show would begin a "revolution" in our country to start actually doing something about global warming???? Wouldn't we all be PROUD to be Americans again? Personally, I NEED a new reason to be proud of our country. (I find our do nothing (or at least marginal) attitude about the environment to be SO depressing) I'm just so excited that your show is going to DO SOMETHING to get people thinking, and perhaps acting, on making a stand for a cleaner America. It truly gives me hope and a feeling of optimism. (Besides, everyone I know has switched from watching re-run death and mayham shows to HGTV this winter, so your timing to reach as many people as possible couldn't be better!)

Very Sincerely,
Sarah J. Davis

Just beautiful!, you lucky kwalters sitting there enjoying that lovely site while dotting I's and a crossing T's. Seeing those palm trees & a sunset a coming in. Very nice indeed! Can't wait to see the color choice. I hope it was the darker green.

Beautiful! Can't wait to see the house!

Posted by Donna Nagy – January 27, 2008 1:06 PM

So I'm glad that this home is eco-friendly. Since it's located in the Keys, I'm sure it will soon be splashing around in the Ocean due to harsh weather. Great location choice!

Posted by Mrs. Griff – January 27, 2008 10:02 PM

Hi velvet350, you asked about the car. I can confirm that it's the GMC Yukon Hybrid for both Green Home and Dream Home.

Can't wait to the see the house. Iam originally from that area and know that it is beautiful location!

HGTV truly amazes me. I discovered this channel only a couple of months ago and have literally been glued ever since. Absolutely every show is so informative and fun to watch. It's even better knowing that HGTV is doing its part to educate us on how we can all be more green in everyday living. From all that I can gather on this green home, it is truly amazing. Looks like the palm trees in the above picture were planted there by the HGTV team as I did not see them in earlier photos of the lot. Beautiful touch! Thanks HGTV for doing such a great job at everything you do!! I can't wait for March 23rd to finally get a tour of the green home!!

Posted by Sheila – January 28, 2008 10:24 AM

I can't wait until the actual photos are posted. I love all the porches, I can picture myself enjoying the sunsets with my family already.

Posted by Carol – January 28, 2008 2:22 PM

I think of all the houses that HGTV has giving away the one in Florida, the decorating was not as i expected. Dont get me wrong is beatiful but they could have done better decorating.

Posted by maria – January 28, 2008 3:41 PM

Hi Kelley, Thank you for confirming the GMC Yukon Hybrid. This was the first time hearing about it. What a great addition to the Green Home prize. Your quick response is greatly appreciated. Thanks again,velvet350

Posted by velvet350 – January 28, 2008 4:09 PM

THE NEXT DREAM HOME SHOLD BE BUILT IN NEW YORK. AFTER ALL NY IS THE MELTING POT OF THE ENTIRE USA. HGTV SHOULD ALSO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION OF THE AVERAGE AMERICAN WHEN THEY BUILD THESE HOMES. NOT THE DONALD TRUMPS OF THE WORLD.

Posted by sophia – January 28, 2008 4:11 PM

(((Connie))) I was not confused about the golf cart, I have known about that for some time. When Kelley posted the information about the GMC Hybrid under that great sunset picture, that was the first time I had heard about the Green Home getting a GMC Yukon. I knew the Dream Home was getting one and I had come across an article about the Green Home getting a different hybrid, but that info. had not been confirmed by HGTV. That's where the confusion came in. So have I confused you now? :)

(((Mrs.Griff))) The Eco Friendly Home(The Green Home) is located in South Carolina.
The Dream Home is the one located in Florida.

Now no more Confusion. :)

Posted by velvet350 – January 28, 2008 4:23 PM

Man, I think I could really come to enjoy this view over the next 30 years or so (after I win the home, of course:-).

Posted by Quinton – January 28, 2008 4:33 PM

I am so excited that HGTV is building a "Green" home and in the South where "Green" is the air we breath. As I've grown older & wiser I have found that "Green" is more a part of who I am. I love HGTV and all the Home & Garden shows. Can't wait to see this new Dream Green Home...who knows maybe I will win!

Posted by CG – January 28, 2008 10:02 PM

I just love ALL the houses you have built across the United States. The eco-friendly one is sure to be a winner! You certainly couldn't have selected a more beautiful location. We all need to keep our environment as protected as possible. Thank you for doing your part. I'll be sure to enter for this one also.

Posted by Linda – January 29, 2008 9:16 AM

Thanks for the sunset picture. It makes nice desktop wallpaper.... Good to hear about the Yukon Hybrid part of the giveaway.

Thank you Kelly for responding to one of our long time HGTV Green Home Board posters.

I salute you, HGTV, and Velvet.

I can hardly wait to see pics of the green home. I have 3 questions. Why is a bathroom door facing the front entry? Where is the garage? Is this house built to withstand hurricanes?

Posted by Dani – January 29, 2008 2:58 PM

I LOVE the house AND the area!
I'll be playing and praying to win!!!!
(Not for me, but for my brother:-)

Posted by Nancy Duggan – January 29, 2008 3:59 PM

Just one word on the beautiful sunset there at the green home...WOW!!!

Posted by Ann Simpson – January 29, 2008 4:18 PM

Jeez - I can't believe there are people dissing hgtv for that fabulous house that they are giving away!!!!!
As for me, I'm saying my prayers and entering every time I think about it.
I'll take a chance on the weather and I'll load up the 2 kids, one dog, one cat (leave the horses and the in-laws at home) and see how good that hybrid gas mileage is.
Next post will be from me - sitting on that lovely verandah.

I had an opportunity to tour the HGTV 2005 Dream
Home at Lake Lure, NC. What a spectacular home
and what an amazing job HGTV continues to do in
chosing locations for each year's Dream Home.
Each year you seem to surpass the previous year
in location and even Dream Homes. Keep up the

I am interested in seeing this house also, I live where the cost of heating our house for 44 days was $1334.50 this last month and that did not include the electric bill. I saw on one posting an individual mention they have a monthly bill of $160 I wish we could be so lucky.

I am so excited over this green home. it is wonderful that you are showing that you are on board with helping out planet. I love that area of s.c. My father was stationed down there and we lived in charles heights for a few years I loved it. Most of my fathers family lives in s.c. I would love to be back near them. It would be so much fun. I have been wishing I had the money to make mine green. but its a 30 year old mobile home and i,ve fallin through the kitchen floor three times. i could use a new home. I am disabled and to wake up to that view would be wonderful .thank you for giving us a chance to change our lives.

velvet350 - Glad to get the confusion cleared up. ;)

Dani - Good questions. I'll ask the designer about #1 and #3. As for #2, you'll have to wait for the tour, which, to answer Kelly's question, goes up in mid-March. :)

And dreamn08 and Cheryl, I'm tickled that you used the photo as your desktop background!

Hi Kelley, I found an article awhile back that said that HOA Fees were going to be $400.00. When Tradition made the name change to Tradition HH the link to the article no longer works. Can you confirm this HOA fee for us please? Thank you, velvet350

Posted by velvet350 – January 30, 2008 3:55 PM

Kelley, thanks for posting such a great photo. I'm on board with dreamn08 and Cheryl, and it is now my computer background photo as well. It finally replaced the mountain view I had up from the Lake Lure Dream House 2006. I'm excited to hear that there is a hybrid vehicle included in the package as well. HGTV is the best!! I can't tell from the floor plans - does anyone know if the little square space from the garage where you enter the house by the dining room with your groceries, is inside or outside? - or do we have to wait for that reveal in March? The overview pictures lead me to think it is outside. (Not that it matters.) The homes HGTV builds are always so beautiful! Also, did they announce which paint color won the vote? I'm so excited. I can't wait for more details. Thanks for the clues and the fun Kelley! Any time you feel like dropping more hints is okay with us. ;-)

Sweet! This should be an educational event as well!

Posted by Becky – January 30, 2008 7:03 PM

I applaud HGTV for highlighting the advantages of green building and look forward to being the fortunate winner of this home;-). I hope HGTV puts its mouth where its money is by only doing business with those companies with a true commitment to environmentally responsible and sustainable business practices. Individually, I challenge every blogger on this site to pledge one thing they will do today to support reductions in their own carbon footprint. I start the challenge by pledging to replace two incandescent lightbulbs in my hallway with LED lightbulbs that are far friendlier to earth than mercury-tainted florescent bulbs. U R IT!

Wow, it is beautiful. Thanks for the little glimps into how life would be if we lived there. I love all the porches around the home. I haven't posted in a while, but I have been reading everyone elses posts. They are very entertaining. This is the best site. Wonderful people sharing their dreams. We do some to help with the environment, but we sure could do more. We know it is a better way of life and it is ultimately a cheaper way to live. Good luck to everyone. This will be a beautiful home. Can't wait to see it completed.

Hey this would be an awesome home for anyone....this would be a great prize to win...and I cannot wait until March 21 to enter this sweepstakes. It is going to be great when the project is officially done and the HGTV viewers can see. My mom watches HGTV everyday pretty much all day long. She is excited to see who wins the Dream Home...Im excited as well but now that I see this Green Home in SC Im more excited to see what family will get to live there and have that wonderful view. Thanks HGTV for giving everyone the chance to win something so nice....the best part about this, is that you guys just keep on making them and giving them away. THATS FANTASTIC.

Posted by Shannon Barrett – January 31, 2008 12:39 PM

I was just wondering the price tag on the Green Home? I know the Dream Home is valued @ $2.2 million. How is a person suppose to pay the taxes on something like that?

Posted by Barb – January 31, 2008 2:35 PM

Great job HGTV on spreading the word about "green" building. My family and I always practice the 3 R's (reuse, reduce & recycle). This home would be such a reward for our hardwork to help the environment. Thanks again for being green!!!! From some hopeful future winners in FL.....

I look so forward to the tour of the Green Home. The upstairs sitting room is a wonderful plus as with the Dream Home. It would make a great place for some quiet reading time. So far, from what I can tell by the floor plan, I like the kitchen area better than the Dream Home because of the bar. 10 people can be easily seated. Love the screened porch also. Nice for outside entertaining without the bugs! I think HGTV has done a great job with the floorplan and can't wait to see the inside. Curious to see the products used in this green design. We hope to build in another year and I've gotten some really great info and ideas from HGTV. Thanks!

Posted by ADAM bailey – February 3, 2008 1:07 AM

I have a question, knowing there are several thousand people entering for the 2008 Dream Home and many of them could be average income or even low income families, how is anyone of these people going to be able to pay the taxes, closing costs, etc. on a two million plus prize. Would that person have to forfeit the prize? Oh, by the way, the homes and locations are beautifully and tastefully decorated. I would count it a blessing to be awarded such a wonderful gift for my family and I. Thank you for the opportunity once again.

Posted by PamT – February 3, 2008 2:57 AM

I am always impressed by the beauty of the locations and the detail to design. My biggest question is "where is the storage areas, other than closets?" My family does alot of hobbies and we have alot of holiday decorations-where in the dream home is there space? Thank you to HGTV for all your wonderful programing and for providing a wonderful opportunity for some lucky family.

My husband and I just retired and this would be the most perfect place in the world for us. Haven't had our own home in over 8 years, been in rentals and this would be like a dream come true.

Posted by Coleen – February 3, 2008 11:28 AM

I'm onboard with Ev, most of my lightbulbs are changed. I'd love to hear more details on what makes the home "green" even before the tour. For example what kind of insulation, lighting, heating/hot water systems, flooring, countertops, any reclaimed materials being used? What type of landscaping - will it include a vegetable/herb garden area & fruit trees?
I really love the green home and that there are now 2 home giveaways, but hope that future dream homes also incorporate green ideas - better for the planet & the winners of the home. Dream green!

elainefaith - Check out the Easy Being Green - Online post for a link to the message boards.

As for having a "local" there, I wish I had time to post, but I do occasionally lurk.

Kat - Stay tuned to the blog!

Karen - There's storage in the HVAC room, under the stairs and in the garage. Plus, they did a good job of built-in storage in areas like the laundry room and pantry. And I can't say anything more or the men in black suits and sunglasses will haul me away! :D

Posted by kwalters – February 7, 2008 2:31 PM

Thanks for the Blog Karen. Both houses this year look great. I must expand on what some have said. It seems that the dream of winning one of these is not all that great. I believe no one who won a previous house lived in it more than a year. They had to take a lot less for the house than it was worth because they could not afford to live there. Another thing that has bothered me. The Tyler Tx. house had an elevator but a handicap person still could not get to the Honeymoon Suite and the tub. It broke my heart to see the handicap man win the Lake Lure NC. house. He had no way of seeing any part but the main floor. Please be more attuned to the plight of the handicap with future homes and come up with some financial way a winner can actually live in and enjoy their DREAM HOMES. Thanks.

What a beautiful site to behold! I think this home may even beat the 2008 Dream Home. That's not to say it's beautiful too but I absolutely love the idea of a green home! I will definitely be following along with the building process of this one. Thanks HGTV for making this home and all others available to those of us who may never have had the chance to own something like this in our lifetime. I look forward to sitting on that veranda and enjoying that view!

I really hope it has solar panels & is virtually non-dependent on the grid, or even gives back. That would make a true green impression for HGTV to set in a model of what a green home truly is.

john -- All Dream Home winners did not take a lot less than the house was worth. (In at least 2 cases, from what we've learned, they got more than the original value of the house.) From that, they then paid off income taxes, any expenses associated with winning, & had money to put into other things, such as their own dream.

Posted by adele – February 11, 2008 2:00 PM

Kat -- the roof appears to have some solar panels -- just doubt that they will be enough to fully support all electrical in the Green Home.

Hey kwalters, what a great job you must have! Beautiful view, access to a golf course, green for the environment, and free except for taxes and cost of purchase, what more could anyone ask for?! So, I have a suggestion for a future give-away. Have Linda W. decorate the winner's house, top to bottom. I always love seeing her style, and wish I knew someone who could do the same in my area. Of course, having her dream home budget would definitely be a boon. :)

I love HGTV and watch faithfully all the time. I love all the dreamhomes and even though every decor doesn't always fill everyones specific needs, the concepts are great! I only wish something could be done so that the winners could actually keep the homes and HGTV would maybe build a little less expensive one and make arrangements for the taxes and other costs to be paid like some of the game shows and talk show giveaways are doing. It would be fabulous to be able to keep the prize and enjoy it instead of having to worry about selling it to pay taxes and then move out. Thanks HGTV. Keep up the good work! You fill my Saturdays and Sundays.

I just found about the Green Home this week. I'm so excited. I ran across your picture from the veranda. It is lovely. Thank you for making these homes possible for ordinary people to win. I watch your channel regularly. In fact I rarely turn to another channel. Keep up the good work.

I've been entering the Dream Home competition but I'm even more excited about the Green Home this year. My son will be attending college in SC this coming fall - it would be pretty neat to move us all from NY to SC! I looked at the Tradition community information available online - sounds GREAT! I love the idea of the community development not just a housing development. Thanks for another great contest - can't wait till March!

Posted by Jeanne-Marie – February 16, 2008 6:27 PM

This isn't really about the green home giveaway, but since there is no easy way to contact HGTV for a technophobe like me. . .I have a suggestion for all the makeover type shows. Why aren't materials that could be recycled (cabinets, fixtures) being recycled through Habitat for Humanity or local charities? If it's because of time crunches, maybe volunteers from the charities could do the removal and save the cast from "demo time", aka waste time/materials. Also, how about a "contact us" button that works? One more suggestion: how about a home giveaway that isn't just a vacation/getaway home and/or isn't beyond the average giveaway entrant's budget in monthly assessment fees alone? I know I sound like a crabby old lady, but I'm not...just crabby.

Posted by Nana – February 16, 2008 9:27 PM

I am constantly amazed at the people on these boards who complain about the taxes they would have to pay on a house THEY WON for FREE. Can't people just be happy that HGTV is giving away 3 houses this year to 3 lucky winners who can do whatever they wish with their winnings.

Why look a gift horse in the mouth? I'm sometimes surprised that HGTV still builds these give-a-way homes with so much whining and complaining by the posters.

If you don't want to pay the taxes....don't ENTER the contest. That's pretty simple.

Grateful for the chance in Texas....

We vacation in Hilton Head often and really enjoy traveling in the vicinity and to Savannah and Charleston. The beaches are great for biking, and we love to kayak with the dolphins. Having a Green Home near there would certainly be a nice consolation if we don't win the Dream Home!

You people are a godsend to some lucky people.I don't know how you do this and then give it away, but I hope the lucky residents need and appreciate what they have. The green house has to be out of this world. Thank you for letting all of us in on part of the finishing touches. Keep up the good work, We love you

I agree with Debra! Stop complaining about the taxes on something that is free. If you can not pay the taxes don't enter, okay?
I for one would be and feel very blessed to win!

I have marked my calendar to enter for the Green Home 2008 give-away. We are so excited about this. My husband and I have vacationed in South Carolina several times and love it their. We have always wanted a home their for our retirement days. We are so blessed to be living in the USA and to be offered this opportunity to win such a wonderful gift.

This is my dream home. Forget the Florida one. I wouldn't be able to afford to live there anyway. I would have to sell it but this GREEN home I would live there in a heartbeat. I have been becoming more GREEN in my own life and couldn't think of a house that would be better for my family. I love the Hilton Head area. Can not wait to see the final product and learn more about it.

I too am amazed at the complaints: about taxes, about layout, about a tub/shower combination. If you've all got that much time, why not write to all the MANY game shows on TV and complain about the taxes people will have to pay on the winnings? At least with a home, you have something of value you can sell if you can't afford the upkeep. Der.
I love HGTV, and used to watch often til I had to cancel my satellite. I esp. liked Design on a Dime, which gave me great ideas, even though I can't sew like Summer, or do handywork as well as the two guys. I really love Extreme Homes, too. LIke someone else on here, I have been bothered by the throw-aways in some of the demos. I remember seeing one beautiful kitchen, clearly larger and more modern than most in a home less than 8 years old. The couple didn't like the square tiles on the countertops, and the beautiful southwestern look, so they tore it all up. I've often thought I'd like to open up a surplus store to sell all the stuff people throw out when remodeling. I'm the recycling queen, and was thrilled to see the recycle bins in the pics for the green home build! thanks for all you do, HGTV!

The sunset picture is beautiful---I would like to know if the palm trees were brought in or are they indigenous to the area? I would also like to know the hunidity levels in this area of South Carolina. Is this lake a natural lake, or a dammed lake? I am so anxious to follow the green home project---and hope sooner than later it would become each State's building codes.
Thank you, Sheri

Just finished yesterday entering to win the Florida's Dream home. Can't wait to see what they will do in SC! I'm living in Wisconsin, and it sure would be nice to be in a place with no snow. We've had 55 inches of the white stuff. Wish it was sand! Cross your fingers that someone who is deserving of a break in life wins these houses and enjoy them!

I beg your pardon, in my opinion, I don't think anyone is complaining about the taxes, etc. I had asked early on about that specific matter as a friend felt like she should not enter because they wouldn't be able to pay the taxes and closing costs. I suggested to her that HGTV would not deny anyone entering because their inability to pay those things. There was NO complaining on my part, just an honest question as I had noticed in some of the other giveaways there was money involved which would take care of these things, but this time I noticed there wouldn't be any money given. I have a lot of faith and had told my friend to enter regardless her potential for not being to afford the taxes. HGTV, thank you once again for such a wonderful experience. I also ended my last evening entering for the 48th time and I have faith enough to know if God blesses my family and I with this wonderful home, that he will also provide for the taxes and other expenses.

My husband and I can't wait to see the new 'Green Home!' While of course we'd love to win it (we have family very close to Hilton Head), we are also looking for ways to make our current home green. We live in a 1890s Victorian, and unfortunately, we're finding out that retrofitting older homes with green materials is quite expensive. Perhaps HGTV would someday produce a show on how to retrofit/renovate homes cost-effectively. Also, maybe we can all apply a little more pressure on our elected officials to provide tax incentives for undertaking green renovation projects. This would help underwrite these expenses and make it easier for all of us to help protect the environment. That said, we ALL have to do our part and I, for one, am EXTREMELY proud of our country (citizens and country) for many reasons. The U.S. is not perfect, but we're still very fortunate to live here. It will take each and every one of us to make changes, and we can't rely on the government to do it all. We need to let them know what we want and where we want our tax dollars to go. WE are responsible for our future! Go HGTV and thanks for helping to raise the environmental awareness around the country!

Love the Lowcountry House. We call it "Dogtrot" when you can open the front door and back door and let the breeze go through. From what I can tell from the floorplans, it seems you must go outside from the garage and walk through the livingroom to get inside. That could be a long walk to carry in groceries and possibly very wet. If this is the case, is there anyway to change the pantry/laundry just a little to put in a door directly to the garage? Just a thought, and perhaps I didn't see a door.
I can hardly wait to visit.

First...know that Tradition HH is not actually located on Hilton Head Island. To get to Hilton Head Island from the location of the "green hosue" you have to travel 278, which is a NIGHTMARE! I have a second home in nearby Beaufort and want all of you who don't know this area to understand that Hilton Head Island is 20 miles away and the traffic can be horrendus. If you are lucky enough to win this home, consider exploring the area north of the Broad River or venture into historic Bluffton to get a feel for what the lowcountry really is all about. New Bluffton is nothing about being "green" it's all about build, build, build, both residential and commercial. To me, they rape the land of valuable trees and other resources to build bigger and better WalMarts, Best Buys, Targets. Is that really "being green"?

Spectacular view!! Sure the home will be beautiful. Would love to win. It is great that HGTV is doing a "Green Home." This will draw much-needed awareness to "going green" and the mindset we should all develop to find a way to enjoy our everyday luxuries while doing whatever we can to protect our environmental resources. Thank you HGTV for doing this promotion.

Beautiful location. I lived in South Carolina for two years and love going back to visit the area often. I have actually stayed in the area of the Hilton Head community where the Green Home is being built. Love the wild life and the community. Good Choice HGTV Green Home Committee.

I love the idea of a green home and I love the location. I vacation in Hilton Head twice a year and would love to retire there, but alas most homes are out of my price range. Winning a home there (especially a "GREEN" one) would be wonderful.

I love all three homes that HGTV and DIY are building to give away. This green home is particularly interesting, anything to cut costs and help environment is great. Have you considered a small wind turbine(for electric)as well as solar panels? Love the looks of the homes as well as the locations. Thank you for the opportunity. I plan to enter as often as possible.

What a beautiful home, in a beautiful location. I love the layout and the fact that it's green. Also, love the Yukon Hybrid (my dream vehicle).I am also using the sunset view on my desk top. Can't wait to see the Green Home. Great job HGTV and everyone involved.

The 2008 HGTV Green Home looks great! Can not wait to enter to win it.

This is a beautiful home and a beautiful area. It would be nice to see it explained to those not familiar with the area that Tradition Hilton Head is actually 20 miles or so away from Hilton Head Island. Traiditon is actually located in Hardeeville, South Carolina and when their development was approved by the Hardeeville City Council it was called Tradition Hardeeville. Thanks

I have been entering your contest for the Green Dream House because it is so beautiful! I live in rural PA and the thoughts of living in SC are too much to imagine! Would I move? IN A MINUTE!!!! One sore spot with me and HGTV - I have looked repeatedly on line for curb appeal or designed to sell or other shows and you NEVER come anywhere near me! I have wanted on numerous times to apply to your shows but the closest you came to Williamsport, PA was 60 minutes from NYC or 60 minutes from PHILA. Hey Guys, there are a lot of rural folks out here that need help too! Love the shows and the house though!

My husband has become an HGTV widower. Only fair I say since football is not my thing. On occasion he has caught himself drawn in, and actually watched with me. This Green Home in S.C.is amazing. I love the cozy feel. The decorating is totally on spot. Actually, totally my taste. You can't buy the beauty of this sunset, but it would be a dream come true for this Northeast Ohio girl to win. I could get use to this Southern comfort.Bless HGTV and all involved, for this chance to dream.

Dear Kelly, am I right that the front faces the east and the back faces west? That's is great for the sunsets. But, you know how hot it gets there. And I don't care!! I'd gladly burn up there just to be back. I went to HH Island in the 90's and had the great blessing to meet the owners of Buck Isl. just off to the left of Palmetto Bay going by way of the water. My friends were the care takers of their island home. I had some wonderful trips there, and the most incredible summers. I miss it so badly. Like everyone else I want this house so much. I felt as if I was home there. The fire works over Palmetto Bay in front of the light house at Harbour Town...you just have to be there, the entire sky and Bay is lit up and filled with happy safe boaters. Love it. Ppease let me come back home!!!!!! Happy entering everyone!!!!!

I have a suggestion that would give a lot of people a chance to get the dream home of their choice.
My suggestion is this, instead of building a dream home and spending over two million dollars for it, why not run a contest where people can write in a discribe the home of their choice.
Buy their existing home if available and have them describe what they would like to see done to their home inside and out.
something like how they would like their kitchen, bedroom, child's room, or their outside, have a panel and choose the best person or people to get this make over.
This is something that I would love to enter in, in that way I may have a chance to get a dream home and you would not have to spend millions of dollars.

Spectacular view and spectacular home. I honestly would love to win this home. I have wanted to win the past homes, but this one in Hilton Head is actually PERFECT for my family. I love that it is a green home and I actually love the color green. I have been working with an agency for the past 17 years that preserve our natural resources. I love it. I love everything about the location, home. Love those beautiful and outstanding sunsets. This home has my family's name written all over it. I told my husband that all of the other houses were beautiful, but this house fits us perfectly, and who better to live in this house than a conservationist who knows all about soil and water conservation and preserving our natural resources. This house would be a dream come true. It would be a perfect HOME. I actually think about winning this "home" every night before going to bed. I can actually see my family in this house, and how much more life would be. HGTV is TERRIFIC. I love all of their shows-such good information and great ideas. My husband even watches the shows with me. He gets great ideas about landscaping. Well, I wish everyone good luck, but I am honestly hoping and praying that I win this home. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE PERFECT HOME FOR ME. My husband laugh at me when you were giving the 2008 home away, because I kept looking outside my home to see if HGTV were there about to surprise us-but no luck. I told my husband I was glad that we didn't in that home when I learned about the "green home", because this home is the perfect home for us and in the perfect location. Good luck to everyone. Still praying in South Carolina that my family will be sipping lemonade out by the fire pit. God bless everyone.
