I really enjoy Kim Myles' tips, but when she talks on her videos she needs to concentrate on not shutting her eyes!

I have a family room with muted tones and want to add a punch of color. We have muted colored carpet. Over and over on HGTV it is communicated that rugs anchor a room. Would it be okay to put a rug with a punch of color on top of carpet? I don't recall seeing this done on HGTC. Our carpet is too new to replace so that's not an option.

Thank you in advance for your opinion!

Hello Kim,
Love your work, thinking out of the box is what I like about your work the most. I own a beauty salon and I am starting a remodel. The salon is only 40 sq feet including the bathroom!
It is 12 feet wide and has a 12 foot ceiling. Is there a painting technique I can use to make the salon look wider. I have a 54inch mirror on one side and I am going to use 2 craftsman tool boxes (black) for our 2 stations. I have a vinyl floor (ceramic tile look) earthtone 12in squares. Thanks in advance for your advice. Keep up the great work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the same problem, I'm a sigle woman & there are lots of things I don't know about my home & I can't afford to pay someone to do everything. What are some suggestions? Right now, I have a leak in my patio roof & even though I can get up there by myself, I have problems getting back down on the ladder as it isn't very steady.

Also for the guy who needs help with his place, put the info on your comments above in personnals of your newspaper, I bet you will get a LOT of help & probably some women who really know what they are doing.

My fiance and I will become first time home-buyers in two weeks. My dilema, I am stressed about what paint colors to chose. I am trying to concentrate on the colors in our countertop/breakfast bar to tie two rooms together. Is it neccesary to do so? HELP!! Thank you! p.s. Same counter top in both bathrooms (yikes).

Hi Kim
love your show
my question is how to choose a ceiling color ? is there a certain rule of thumb when choosing the wall color .

What walls do I use when painting the access walls in an open floor plan. Kitchen and great room flow into one another. I am using county blue in kitchen, and mocha brown in great room. All the walls are completely white now.
Thanks for your help.

I just got my first home. Very small rooms but to make a room feel big I know to do a light color but would a thick stripe around the room make the room look big too or just stay with the light color

I have a living and dining area that is 18 X 30 and I just got new furniture that is Plum. My walls are still the off white from when it was built. I also have cream carpet. I was wondering what color of hardwood floor would match plum and what color is best for the walls. I also have alot of aqua in the room.

Thanks

We have rounded corners throughout our first floor. I have decided to paint the dining room only but don't know where to stop since the rounded corner flows into the hallway! Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

I want to paint my powder room in a neutral shade. My oak cabinet and hardwood floor in the room is of medium colored oak. The cabinet top is black granite with chocolate brown and gray patches. Currently the room is a pale yellow and has in the past been painted red, brown, green and white. I just can't seem to find the right color. Can you suggest a color that would make this drab room more elegant?

thank you!

Hi Kim. Love your show and your manner and design are really inspiring. I am trying to re-do my floor rug that I really love...especially the color combination. I was wondering if I can re-paint( spray paint?) some portions of the rug and make my own design. Is it possible to re-paint a floor rug?
Thanks for your advice.

Kim, When I was in an apartment it was easy to paint and wall paper, but now that I am in my own home I can't seem to see color or wallpaper. The walls are light and the setting in black leather and sable pasleys. The tables are brown and I am in a situation well I can't seem to see color. I have that collective look going on wall are very limited and there's a 50x90 in. screen on the biggest wall in my living room I love it, the accent is silver and mirrors. Please tell me what I can do for color. 960737

I'm looking for the episode that demonstrated using a wax application on a door prior to staining the door. The wax pattern on the door was that of a bamboo, and I believe the door was adjoining the bedroom to the bathroom.
What episode was that?
How do I do the same thing in my home?

painting really is the cheapest (and easiest) way to change a room's look.

We get tons of clients at myhomeus.com looking for painting ideas and resources--particularly eco-friendly paints...

Kim, Please help me choose a color for my bedroom. I am 70 years old just retired and I cannot stand the white walls all over the room. I would like a relaxing bedroom and sort kind of modern. Adjacent to the bedroom is a small bathroom. I am prone to depression and I also like a color that can motivate to live.

Thanks so much.

What factors in a room determine whether to paint vertical or horizontal stripes on the walls? Thanks! P.S. Love your show and your designs!

Hi Kim,
I absolutely love your ideas and designs. I have a bathroom question. I am remodeling my small hall bath. I purchased a vanity furniture cabinet that has a cream sink. My toilet and tub/tub tile are white. I plan to replace the toilet also. Do I match the toilet to the cream vanity sink or keep the toilet white to match the tub/tub tile? Thank you very much for your help.
