Help! Fireplace in desperate need of a makeover. It's 10 ft. wide by 12 ft. tall with flagstone all over & 4 ft. wide mirror in middle. Feels too "rustic" & bare for my taste. Mantel is 8 ft. across created from dark wood molding. Any ideas to update to a more rustic-"elegant" look without removing stones?

Thanks!

I WOULD LOVE TO WATCH KIM MYLES' "MYLES OF STYLE". BUT THE FILMING METHOD IS ATTROCIOUS. I CAN'T WATCH MORE THAN A FEW MINUTES, BEFORE THE SHAKY CAMERA, & ANGLED FILMING MAKES ME PHYSICALLY ILL. IT IS SO DISHEARTENING TO WATCH A PROFESSSIONAL BEING FILMED IN SUCH AN AMATEUR MANNER. BUT WORSE - I WONDER HOW KIM'S RATINGS ARE. I KNOW SHE IS SHORT ALL THE VIEWERS IN MY HOUSE. IT MAKES ME VERY SAD TO MISS HER IDEAS, BECAUSE OF THE WAY IT'S BEING FILMED.

I have a split level house and am in the midst of remodeling my kitchen. I knocked down 2 walls to open the area up to the living and dining room hence an open floor plan. I'm adding an island in the kitchen. My question is, I have a bow window and want to know if I can put a sectional sofa in front of the bow window or do I should I use a regular sofa?

Frankly, I think Kim Myles is one of the poorest shows around and would vote for termination if given the opportunity. Her chipper voice and style are so hard to hear and watch. It feels like "oh how cute I am" phoniness. I looked all over for a place to write this and only found sites like these to send my opinion. I wish her all the luck in the world but not on your channels. I turn to a different channel while she is on. Make her go away.

I think Myles of Style is a great show, very good ideas and great designs, that's what HGTV is all about. Kim, keep the good work!

Hi, I just do not know what to do with my child's room. She is going to be 13 and I want to redo her room for the 3rd time but I am having a really hard time determining where to start this time and what to do. Even browsing magazines, HGTV...etc. is not helping me decide firmly on anything. I have watched a few episode's of Myles of Style and so has my girl and she lovesssssssss the colors, the different textures etc... that Kim uses. I wish we could load Kim into a paint can and safely ship her to our home to help us. Ok, not in a paint can but a comfy plane ride first class of course :) We would pay with a really excellent meal and our fun personalities. Any ideas! Our child's birthday is coming up and this would a huge surprise for her. She is an excellent student and donates hundreds and hundreds of hours to toys for tots Kim is her favorite designer so I thought why not ask for her help

I agree that this is the worst show on HGTV and also looked for a place to express my opinion. How soon does her contract expire? There are so many quality programs on HGTV and this program is so inferior. She is boring, out of touch with current trends, ordinary and not star quality.

Kim, I love to watch you and you are a cute gal with lots of good ideas. I have been trying to redecorate a bedroom-bath. I have painted the walls in the bedroom a fairly light aqua. Plan to put plum colored scarf and draperies. Should I put same over the bed and in the bath where it shows from the bedroom. I have a palm wallpaper to put in the bathroom and want to make it like a tropical retreat. My bdrm furn is pine, so dark, too. I don't know what to do with it & really do not want to spend more on furniture. Had it for twenty years but is still good. Green I am. Ha,.
Sure hope you can give me some ideas. My bedroom is about 10 X 12, bath is 8 X 10 with a large garden tub, large shower and maple cabinets with brass fixtures. I want to change the faucets to update with a bronze. Can I do this with the brass in the bath and shower? I also want to update the med cabinet. Any suggestions? Would plum linens be okay in the bath to match the curtain? The window is covered with glass blocks,approx.5X5, but too much sunlight reflection directly across from a very large mirror over the two sinks. All the tile is a pinkish tan, lots of it around shower, tub insert and wall, counter.
I would like to put bamboo flooring or tile in the bath, have very light tan carpet in bedroom.
taupe bedspread. Over the bed 3 hand carved sections 4 X 5, as a headboard, birds. from Thailand, that we are dismantling a stereo cabinet that is way too large in our living room. And the wood is Mahogany.Would you paint it as a headboard? Just got me in a dither. Can't afford to spend lots of money and make mistakes. I have a passion for decorating and colors, but have made plenty of mistakes.
Thank you so much if you can help me. Sorry for making this so long but hope it helps. Shirley

Kim loves to help people who don't have huge $$ resources, and I appreciate her great ingenuity and creativity. Keep her show on! She helps those of us who don't have a great amount of money to decorate and change a look into something that looks like a million dollars. I am glad there are many channels to change to for those who don't like Kim's program. I for one, love to watch her, and even record MYLES OF STYLE to watch later if I can't watch when it is scheduled! Keep up the good work, Kim.

I think she does a great job for those of us on a budget, she is brand new, give her a break, she is great. Have you ever seen HGTV's my parents house? those two designs are the WORSE! if ever a show should go, that would be it!

I love your show Kim, keep up the good work and we thank God for the wonderful opportunity you have been given to grow, and the others who work with you. People should be careful of negative comments, they can be self consuming fires.

I love David Bromstad. He is so inventive and his visions are so terrific. The fact that he can paint his own art pieces is just awesome.
I have watched Myles of Style. I have never like any of her rooms. I was very disappointed.
Hopefully your next designer will be much better.

Kim has a fabulous designer's eye. She's able to take a theme and translated it so that it's not too literal. Honestly, at first, I wasn't sure they made the right pick on Design Star. But what a delightful surprise. All the Best Kim!... By the way what is the typical budget (for Materials) per show?

I just painted a tv room 12x12 8' high a mustard color with all white ceiling and trimmings. After painting it,I feel it is a bit dark. The room connects to a hallway which is now painted light avocado which I though would make a good color transition but now doubt my decision. How can I make this color work better? What color of rug, drapes and accessories will complement the color of the walls? Furniture is light brown (tv set and futton). Please help

Dear Kim and Blog Participants:

PLEASE HELP!! I have a window treatment problem, and would really appreciate some help and suggestions:

I have three living room windows of equal size across one wall of my living room. Each window has plantation blinds and I have hung drapes across the entire area on one rod measuring 150 inches.

I want to make and hang a cornice across the rod, but can't get lumber as long as 150 in. I have two questions:

1. Should I make several cornices butted up next to each other? If so, rather than have a cornice box with both ends covered, I would have to leave one end piece off or it would not go over the drapery rod. Would this work, or is there a better way?

2. Should a cornice not only cover the curtain rod, but also the header for the plantation blinds?

I hope someone can answer my questions. Love HG and your show, Kim. I have it on right now as I type this!
