    Hello Kim,
Congratulations and welcome to Los Angeles. You are awesome !!!!!!.
I love the color black, especially when it is paired with other colors, such as mauve, cranberry and pale green. Black really seems to make the other colors simply pop. I have a boring, traditional style home-office and would really like the floral/shabby chic look, but I cannot seem to find any items with black, mauve or cranberry. Do you have any suggestions? Are there any alternatives? Help.
    Loving black,

Hi, Kim! Congrats on your new upcoming show, I cannot wait to see it, in fact I will be TiVo'ing every episode.
I am redoing/repainting my family room, which would be better green walls or orange walls? If you know of a particular favorite color either orange or green, please advise.
Also, what other accent color to go with green and orange?

Kim, what is the best way to turn a 'country traditional' house decor into a French Country decor? My husband built me a 7ft. farm house table and I have several pieces of black wrought iron. Any suggestions/comments are welcome!

Kim, I am so happy for you in your new life with HGTV. I relate to you on every level. Design and decorating have always been "who I am". You have terrific taste and innovative ideas. If I'm lucky, maybe some day you can help me on my own home design or redecorating project. I can't wait to start watching your new show. Best of luck to you.

    Hi Kim,

    Congrats and best wishes!!!!

I'm trying to decorate my bathroom, the walls are Empire Gold and I'm trying to decorate in white, brown, orange and a little silver. I saw some towels on one of HGTV's emails that they sent me that had some white towels with large brown polka dots on them. I thought they were really cool and wanted to get some for my bath. However, I have hit a dead end with regard to finding any. Would you have any idea where I can find some or do you have an alternative to my delima?

Congratulations on your win. I watched you each week and you were indeed the best. Anyways, I recently bought a house and I need help in choosing paint colors for my walls and chairs for the living room. I bought an orange sofa, and I'm not sure what color chairs I should get and what color I should paint the walls.

My side tables are brown and I have brown accents prints. any suggestions?

Hi, Kim! First of all before I get started just let me add my congrats on your upcoming new show i'll be watching it can't wait. I do believe that you can pull it off 'cause you are without a doubt a great designer that's why you won "design star". I'm a fan of yours, and I know that you have the world on your side like you have in me...

    Hi Kim,
Best of Luck and Congratulations, I am looking forward to your new show!
We have 18 ft walls in our great room.
We put crown molding at 9 ft topped with a piece of wood creating a narrow shelf,
fauxed the bottom and left the top 9ft with the undercoat color (not fauxed)
I decorated the bottom 9ft with furniture, and artwork which makes top half looking rather bare to me.
Would you decorate the top half of the wall?

Congrats! So glad to have finally found something about your upcoming shows. I'm looking forward to seeing what you have to offer. I've never seem anyone use so little to create so much. You are truly an inspiration!!!

As an Upstate transplant to the Midwest, I'll be relocating soon to Arkansas; perhaps you can work your magic on my new space. I love your style.

CONGRATULATIONS… you will bring a flare that is your own!
My concerns are one that faces allot of people I'm sure. I have designer taste but a limited budget to obtain the desired look. I'm presently working on my living/dining room area. I have a vision but making it happen is the issue. I want a simple design with flashes of color and plenty of light. What items should be my first consideration in this process?

    Posted by Adahzell – February 20, 2008 12:22 PM

    Hi Kim,

I can't wait to see your new show! I would love to see how you decorate rooms on a low budget. I am hoping to get some good ideas for my home. I am not into designing at all, but your designs inspire me. I would love to know how to pick the right sofa coverings. I own a very old sectional and cannot afford a new sofa. So my question is how to choose a good sofa covering and a easy way to make new, old funiture.

Great to see you, Kim. I knew from the first contest episode that you'd be the winner (psychic, I guess.) My husband and I have just moved into THE house we've been waiting for 37 years for - our retirement digs. We've travelled the world so I am making selections from the 70 foot trailer that delivered our stuff for the 2,300 sq foot house (and a packed garage and 3 storage lockers). We have some rather exciting furniture we've picked up - big stuff. The most challenging is the bedroom: we have a very colorful antique Chinese Marriage Bed. (Unfortunately I cannot find one like ours on the web today....sometimes there is one. Maybe tomorrow!) I've got ornate draperies (3 separate narrow windows and a slider) in red with soft gold motif and fringe - perfect! The bed will have sheer soft gold draperies. Now to do the walls. I am thinking about red paint, and projecting Chinese motifs (I've got books of them) onto the walls for painting in soft gold. Or wall paper. Or a combination. The bathroom is an open archway (whose twisted idea is this? There is a WC the size of an airplane loo in the corner - for me and the catbox - with a door.) I bought gorgeous brocade for bathroom drapes for the archway - with same soft gold fringe - but it is not the red-red (I figured that enough is enough). It has more yellow in it - with soft gold motifs and fringe. This is such an exotic room that my Art School-educated daughter says it's beginning to look like a museum installation.) I've thought of painting such things as good-luck carp 'to hold' towel rings. I've got to have a dragon someplace. There are so many images - we are both born in a year of the sheep (or goat or lamb - whatever). Do you have any images of this 'horror'? Any ideas that pop into your mind? Is going for red walls too much do you think? ~ I am so excited about your program coming up. I've loved David - and now YOU . Wow! What a treat. I do wish you all the best of Success and a dose of Good Luck. You'll be WONDERFUL!! Sincerely, Marganne - and I started out life in Brooklyn.

    Hello Kim,

Congratulations! I was rooting for you to win because I really liked your design response to (almost) every challenge and I am looking forward to seeing your new show.

    Now for my question (help!):

I have a very small kitchen in which the 23-year-old wood cabinets do not have hardware - they are not damaged, just old. I have installed black appliances over the last 3 years and the walls I painted white(they were a medium green). I would like to paint the cabinets (black or white?) without making the room appear any smaller or darker.

Please give me your opinion about the painting. Do you think I should install some handles? Thank you for your assistance.

We are attempting to update our 20yr old home . The large eat in kitchen has honey colored OAK Cabinets in very good condition. I would like to paint them .My husband cringes everytime I mention it. IF we do keep the OAK as is, what would you suggest for the WALL color, FLOOR treatment and new COUNTER TOP treatment as well as new APPLIANCE color .I just dont have an idea how to use color with Oak cabinets. Thanks for our advice . Jan in Moncks Corner,SC

Kim! Kim! I can NOT tell you how happy I am that you won your show! The competition was fierce, so many excellent designers... and YOU DID IT!!

Kim, I'm an Artist, have worked at Thomasville and Macy's (and other furniture stores)...have been involved in designing for quite some time. No formal education.... just an eye! Nice to know dreams CAN come true! When you won, you were so very genuine and delighted.... ! So obvious! I just want to wish you all the best and I look forward to watching your show. I'm addicted to HGTV (my boyfriend is "starting" to get into it.....slowly! :) I'm 56, most likely too old to truly get involved and pursue greater heights.....SO, I continue to do what I do! Still love painting..Lanscapes, Seascapes, Murals and Portraits. Also starting a business doing pantings of homes. Okay, I'll release you from this.....AGAIN, BEST OF LUCK!!!

Ms. Myles of Style how do I chose a rug shape/size to a table shape/size. This has always been difficult for me and I'm never quiet satisfied unless I feel the floor space up just in case!! Now I have these new beautiful wood floors and I don't want to put a huge rug under my table if it's not necessary. Tell me what to do! tms

    Hi Kim,
I have a style I call Romantic Glam, I like beatiful bright florals on cream or red backgrounds for my bed linens and curtins with lace accent shears on the windows, brass and crystal fixtures, mirrors and light and cream colored furnishings. My walls are shades of cream with chair rails and modings around the doors and windows. I would like to keep the light feeling of my room and would like to try a tri-color palet on the walls to add to the uniqueness of the room without going to over the top. The colors; blush, candle light and pear. How would you in corporate these colors for the best effect.
    Love you,

what is the title of your show and when will it begin airing? I've been anxiously awaiting to see it! Or have I missed the boat and it's already on the air? More than likely, I may have missed the boat!

thanks and congratulations...I haven't told my wife about you yet as she is a beautician and does all the major and minor repairs around the house! Unfortunately I am sideline fighting lung cancer at the moment and I'm afraid I'm not much assistance! But she really goes at it!

Dilemma throughout half our 200+ year old house:
Our ceilings are only 7'4" high (which have been covered with acoustic tile by previous owner-yuck!). There is horsehair plaster underneath the tiles in bad shape. What kind of temporary cosmetic approach could I use to make my ceilings appear taller? The tops of the window moldings are only 2" from the ceiling.
Congratulations on your win and I'm looking forward to your new show!!

    Hi Kim,
I just loved your style on Design Star Season 2, and congratulations on your new upcoming show! My question is what is the best way to bring in the most light on walls in a North-facing living room with current furniture in dark woods that we can't change out, and not much light. (Its currently white which I formerly thought gives the feeling of the most light potential) My thought was to use a light yellow tinted color, but then I've seen other things where they potentially recommend a "metallic" paint for bringing in a light or reflective feeling. Can you use a yellow color with a relfective paint? Or would another color be better to bring more light in? Also, if I use it, how do you apply metallic paint? - Thanx so much, and congrats again!

HI Kim, I am so very happy for you as I am from the same hometown. New York is a very big apple and sometimes difficult to be noticed. I would to say that I now live in florida, and I would like to know what you would suggest for replacing my window and vertical blind treatments. Something that will keep out to much sun and yet allow the light for the sliding glass doors. When I moved here a few years back the verticals were the most popular, but now that has changed. What do you think? " Carol heres to you from Florida."

I just love this program, my husband says I'm addicted to HGTV but it just makes me feel so much closer to what I am and what my dreams are that I just can't stay away from this program.I have this art bronze Italian Sculpture that has become a sick Sculpture, it has a fongus because of the humitity.I'm so attached to this piece that I don't want to get rid of it, I've tried to clean it but it doesn't come out it's a very expensive piece and I don't want to damaged it. Is there an excisting liquid that I can use to repair it? if not can I paint without damaging it?. I took formal education as a florist desing, I also study Jewelry repair but what I like the most is to see the smiles in people faces when you do something that makes them feel happy that somebody really cares for them. I love desingning and decorating because you get to see the best of people when you do changes in there lives you bring out the best of them and help them have a better life. And I hate the, I guess you would call them moldings that cover where they join them together. Is there anything you can suggest to use to make it look more natural. Especially where i t is in the living room. I thought of trying to use like a beam that would frame the whole thing. The Top and down the sides. but I don't know I may make it look worst. I AM NOT A DECORATOR. And that is probably a understatement on that.........PLease help......This only the beginning of questions I could ask about "manufactuered homes". Cheryl

White floors? I am moving into a tiny New York condo with low ceilings, so its dark. I was going to lay veneer floors in pure white wood finish with white furnture, white walls and white everything except bursts of small color like cushions and rugs.
Do you think white floors are overkill?

Hi, Kim! I am so looking forward to what you will bring to HGTV. I am all for low-cost design and decorating because I do not have a lot of $$ only a lot of ideas about what I would like to see in my home. Question. I have an archway that used to be the exterior sliding door at the back of my home (back wall of dining room). I want to be able to close this area off without using another set of exterior doors. I thought about using a wooden door frame with stretched fabric and wooden trim to make it look like patio doors, but I want air and light to come through. Does that sound do-able? Where would I find the kind of doors I want -- old fashioned wooden framed ones? I have your show as a "recurring event" in my calendar. This is going to be so much fun! Good luck and enjoy yourself!

    Hi, Kim!

I really need your help. I've just retired after working 35 years and I have been trying for months to get all the "stuff" in my bedroom organized and "tossed" if I don't need it. I want to make more space and just give my bedroom a new look to match my "new life"! (I'm having a bit of trouble getting used to NOT WORKING anymore, and I feel a little bit overwhelmed at all the "stuff" I've "horded" over the years. It seems the more I throw out,the more I find. I want to paint my walls (I've lived with WHITE walls my entire life, and I am ready for a change). I can't spend much money, because when you retire(especially from the school system) you don't make as much money as you use to---I was not a teacher, but a clerk/secretary; so I really didn't make much to begin with. I would appreciate any help or tips you could give me on getting everything in order, and ALL inexpensive decorating tips!! I hate living in a pig pen!!

Thank you so much for any help you could give me (I use to think I was a great organizer and decorator, but now I'm not as sure of that as I used to be!)

    Thanks Kim,

    Dear Kim,
Congradulations on your new show! I just knew you would win! I'm so happy for you. You handled yourself with great class and style during the contest challeges with fellow designers. I went to school for design, and worked in the industry for almost 10 years here in Cincinnat resident/commercial, and it was very hard to get promotions, and for people to take your position seriously. As a women of color keep up the great work you do!

Hi Kim, I am so proud of you. I was sooo happy when you won. I admire your attitude and you have a great smile. Now down to business. I live in a rental home and all the walls are white. I love the color green but soft green like sage. I also like chocolate brown. I have a rectangular family room with a double patio door and 2 doorway openings, but no doors. I don't know what to do with this room to make it comfortable just for relaxing. I forgot to mention it is a sunken room. I have no small children so the room could be really nice. I think green and brown would blend well together but how. I love the outdoors and would really love to put the patio door light to good use. Rochester ny is pretty cold now but do you have any ideas? HELP! HELP! Right now the room has a green rug with wicker/ratten furniture.

I want to volunteer to have you over my house to help me out in any room you want! I have many design dilemas and a very small budget. Your wonderfull taste will be very welcome here!!!

Hi Kim: I have one question. We purchased a new house 5 years ago. Our bedroom is the last room to get decorated and painted. My husband saw this color (Tapestry by Ralph Lauren) in his bosses office. I have never let him pick the colors of paint before, but have decided that he needs to have some say this time. We compromised and are going to paint one wall that color. I was thinking that a goldish yellow color would go well with it and might calm it down a little because it is kind of a dark rusty color. Do you agree, or what color do you suggest. Also what color of furniture do you suggest. Thanks for your help!!!!!!

    Hi!
I have been redecorating my family room for a few years now. I am disappointed in some of the choices I made. I browned out the room quite abit. The walls are latte; carpeting a warm beige; sofa and loveseat are a nubby butterscotch; chair and ottoman a dark choclate brown; dark brown accessories and enameled woodwork. Accent color - cranberry and off-whites. The sofa and loveseat make the room dull. It washes into the wall. I would like an off-white sofa and loveseat. The feel of the room is a sophisticated but earthy and warm.
    Thanks much! Patty

Wall facing kitchen (in family room) is brick, top to bottom, with colors of brown, gold, orange, light orange, medium brown (wall includes fireplace with an insert). I;m trying to sell and want to clean up those two rooms with paint and window coverings. Floor in Fam.room is beige carpet, kitchen is ceramic tile .. gray/blue with some light gold. Can't afford to change floors. Older home..selling as is. Fam/Room has one large window and sliding glass doors to the patio. PLease help..I HAVE NO TALENT AT ALL. Hi Kim, I can't wait to see your show! I want to design a beach/coastal theme guest room. I have birds eye maple furniture which is very golden in tone, and an antique white iron bed. Which wall color would work best with the furniture? I'm considering either a light coastal blue or something in the beige family like the color of sand.

    What's up Kim!

You were my choice to win & I am sooo glad you did. You are definitely a star born to design. I, however, am not so lucky. I want to redo my bedroom. I am choosing an espresso color for the bed, dresser & night stand but I can NOT find an example of the style floating around in my head. I thought it was bohemian, but the bohemian styles I've seen don't seem to go with what I am trying to accomplish. I want to use a mixture of colors like golds, reds, dark orange and brown for the bed spread and pillows and for the accessories in the room. Is this more of an Indian style? I haven't got a clue! I am scared to move forward for fear it will turn out to be a huge mess. Help!!

    Hi Kim,

Congrats on the new show, can't wait to see it!! I am trying to redo my living room. We have black trim coffee/end tables with glass tops and under the glass tops are these beautiful ceramic tiles. My husband and I got the couch of our dreams but it only came in Dark Espresso color and with the black coffee tables, I am unsure. The tiles have beiges, sage and rust colors, that I think I can tie the brown and black with. Do you have an idea of what a "theme" could be, I was thinking "nature" ish feel, any ideas from you?

    Hi Kim,
Like everyone I am looking forward to March 16,I just know you are gonna be fantastic, after all I have a certain piece of "furniture" (think grey-blue chest of drawer)!
    I have a quick question, does the following combo seem insane to you;
*dark blue velvet camelback sofa with dark brown legs
*eastlake styled chaise in an ugly tweedy fabric
*two chairs (not sure the style) dark almost black with zebra stripes,
*White rug on ebonized wood floor
    *Creamy coloured walls
If you think it's doable, what do I do to make it all coalese. I want to reupholster the sofa in blue suede. The chaise is in terrible disrepair and needs to reupholstered but I don't know what colour fabric to use!! I'm so disgusted I try to stay away from my livingroom, and that's not giving myself much space as it's the largest room in my apartment. my friends and family tell me to throw away the chaise but I just love it. Help!!

    Congratulations on your new show!
My questions is about our family room. We have built in bookcases on the top half of half of our walls. We recently installed laminate wood floors, painted the walls a soft beige with white woodwork. Our furniture is an upholstered med blue sectional with desk furniture from This End Up (crate style). Should we paint our bookcases white, they are stained now. They used to match our rustic woodwork. Our woodwork is now more colonial all painted white.I love the storage and display opportunities they offer, just not sure what would help pull it all together. Thank you for any help you can offer.

Hi Kim, I'm excited and anxious for your new design show to start. Like you, I too have a decorating passion and every chance I get I'm tuned and glue to the HGTV channel. Although, I enjoy and like to decorate, I haven't been able to do much with my gargage/basement for the last 8 years. I like to make it a functional family, dinning, play area where the family can gather and the grandchildren can have fun. I would love and welcome any ideas that you have that would help me get started in the remodeling of our garage/basement. I would love to be part of your amazing design show. When do you plan to visit the Atlanta, GA area?

Hi Kim, I'm confident you can steer me in the right direction with my rather small (apx8x10)but open kitchen that I want to re-do. Back wall (2 stories high)has oak stained cabinets, stove & refrig. and from there the space opens up to the living and dining rooms. Kitchen & dining rooms have skylights, living room vaulted ceiling. Sink is on the side that looks out to the living room. Cabinets above the sink. I would like to get granite countertops & I have a 'bar' top which is apx 18"x6'. Fell in love with some glass tops - would the glass and granite be too busy? what should I put on the floor - tile?

Hi Kim! I have a condo with small rooms and I want to know what to do to make the rooms look cozy, but not crowded. My living room is 16'6"x12'6" with 1 small window near one of the corners. Would a small sectional be too much? My bedroom is 11'8"x10', but I have a king bed (no headboard, no bedroom set or real side table and I can't open my closet all the way). Will I be forced to by a smaller bed? Or, can I somehow make the room look larger?

I can't wait to see your new show! Maybe you will be the one to finally address the needs of regular folks..I live in a 1550 sq foot, 125 year old (cottage) house in the midwest. It was moved by a team of horses in 1909, according to a neighbor, and nothing is square. I also have 4 greyhounds (rescued racers) and limited budget. We don't do granite, and there is no master en suite anything, or faux this or that. One bathroom the size of a cat box, and I have a handicapped brother living with me. All my stuff is eclectic from the thrift shops. Would appreciate tips on how to pull it all together espcially living with indoor pets; color schemes to make the whole house cohesive--I love blues/creams/rust; and just some acknowledgement that bigger isn't always better. Thanks ps-I hope you have a long and sucessful career!

Kim -- I've been waiting and waiting for your show and it's > almost here.
My problem is the windows in my mid-60's house in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. The bedroom windows are 40" tall and 44" wide. They start at about 4 ft. off the floor and have NO trim around them. The sill is marble (which I understand was a bonus feature at the time). The previous owner had pleated valances and mini blinds in one room and short drapes in the other. Any ideas for window coverings? Help! No one ever shows windows this size in any decorating show or books.

Kim, as someone who admittedly had no formal education in "design", does this mean you also had no practical experience in design? I ask this because I want to know how you worked with the construction aspects of the rooms you had to work on during your competition. Did you and the other contestants have technical help from carpenters? Just wonderin'..thanks.

Hello Kim: I have a bedroom paint color dilemma. The color of the bedroom at this time is taupe. I would like to change the color of the bedroom to something that is a bit more exciting, but not so exciting that it is very bright and distracting. The color of my bedding is primarily red, and silvery gray. The other colors are golds and greens. Do you suggest I keep the taupe or can you give me another idea to make the room look fantastic!

    Hi,Kim
I have a couple of questions for you. Is it OK to mix different styles in a home? I am thinking of doing my living room in a Victorian style. The dining room is right across from it and the furniture does have a victorian feel to it. I have a camelback sofa and loveseat that I would love to make a new cover for but I need some other ideas to make this room come alive. Any help you could give me on window treatments and colors would be really appreciated. My home is new, traditional style, but I really think I could make this living room cozy and different.

    Good Morning Kim,
I've been waiting to ask this for a long time. Pros on hgtv continue to push stainless steel appliances - so I want to know, how do you keep stainless clean without scratching it? In Colorado, stainless has gone out of fashion because it scratches so easily and different stainless appliances clean with different products. Some don't seem to clean with any product. What's the pros best guess?

Anyway, I would like some advice on doing a bonus (room over the garage) in a "Jazz Club" type of theme. My husband is a drummer (I joke to my friends that we built the house around his large drumset), and he LOVES Jazz music.

    Dear Kim,
I have a huge family room with 7 windows 4 windows on the back wall close together measures 31x72 which really makes them 124x72. Two windows on the other side are 35x64 and one window 48x72 on another wall. I have no idea how to address the window treatment for this room. I wanted drapes for the back windows and swag out of the same fabric for the other windows. I love your design taste and would value any suggestions you might have.

    Hi Kim,

First congratulations - you totally rocked!!!!!

I just purchased new furnitire - did not have it delivered yet because I want to paint.

The furniture is burgundy. My walls are now white/eggshellish. I want to make everything burgundy/tan/gold/olive green and possibly brown.

Problems are many but here we go. I am thinking of painting the walls a neutral tanish. However, my husband does not think we should paint the wall that leads upstairs citing the need to paint the hallway the same color if we do. How can we address this problem and where can I find a fabulous pillow to match my quirky color desires?

Please email me because I fear I may miss your response in the blog.

many Blessings with your new show!!!

    Kim,
I have a log home yes the walls inside are log (natural pine). My furniture is ivory on white sofa and chair with a bergae chair upholstered in red velvet with gold backround. Light and airy curtains at the windows are very subtle white with a soft design that includes shades of pale pink, burgundy, lilac and some green the color is subtle. Without painting the log walls how can I bring color into this room. Carpets are oriental - predominately burgundy with blues, greens. 400792

    Hi Kim!
We can't afford to replace the carpet that came with our home, but the deep navy blue almost seems unworkable...it's everywhere! From the living room, up to each and every bedroom, I'm stuck with this heavy, heavy blue.

What colors can I use to vary the style while still holding back a color clash with this devilish navy blue carpet?

    Please help!!!

    Kim,

I'm a frustrated designer want-a-be. I've spent so much money decorating my apartment. I don't have any confidence in my design style and need someone who does to advise me. After watching you on Design Star, I think you are the go-to-designer. My living room is done in neutrals (brown, tan, gold, taupe, cream w/whitewashed furniture. My first question is: Do you think whitewashed furniture looks ok with this color scheme? and second question is: I'm undecided on an accent color-whether it should be red or pink. The walls are white which I plan on painting a medium tan. Help???? So many questions. One last question - Is there a design show or help for someone like me who can't afford a designer, but wants to be done with my home once and for all?????

Congrats Kim...Help! How do you decorate a long rectangular living room there are windows on all three sids and a large entrance door on the fourth wall. Room dimension is 28 x 12. Every thing we try seems to close off part of the room or make it wasted space. The room adjoins into a large foyer. Thanks for any help you can give

How does someone jazz up a rental house bedroom where you can't paint? I've heard that someone can use starch to put fabric on the wall. How do you do it, the easy way would be great for me.

Kim I love your style girl! This is Scott Gleaton from LaFayette Alabama (only 1 1/2 hours from Atlanta). Question: I have been told my style is Ethnic-Eclectic(Old-style British West Indies). My dilemma: I am looking into getting a new modular home with browns and beiges as the color scheme. The living room and master bedroom are my biggest problem areas with respect as to how I should design them. What is your take on this style and do you think I could get you to help me out *wink*. I will keep you posted as to when I actually make the purchase of my first home!!

    Hi Kim
Congratulations on your show. I have an 11 year old daughter and we painted her room a pale lavender and then bought her a pretty tie dye comforter set in lavender as well. The carpeting in her room is black and she has black mini blinds on her two 36" windows (both were left by the pervious owners of the house). What window treatment (cornice, scarf, valance)would you put up on her windows and more importantly, what color? Please help - she really wants her room to look pretty and completed.

    Dear Kim,

Congrats on your new show! Can't wait to see it! I love getting new ideas for decorating and have a decorating dilemma of my own (who doesn't?). I have a large finished basement with a brick area (woodstove included). The problem is with few windows it's kind of dark and I really hate white walls. Darks are definitely out of the question. I could also use some help decorating since I have 4 boys with lots of STUFF! I don't want it to look like toy central or too boyish. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I hope to hear from you with some ideas!

I have a country style kitchen, that's what they called it in the 70's. 10x20 with counter dividing kitchen from dining area (no formal dining room). I have redone the kitchen with white cabinets/appliances, brown fleck Corian countertops, sage walls and wine theme in towels, valance over sink, etc. What style table should I have in the 10x10 dining space? We are usually 3 around the table but holidays bring in about 10-12.

Hi. I loved the design series. Looking forward to your own little show.

I have a large window in my family room which is across from where my big screen TV has to be. There is a bad glare from the window on the TV. I need to have a window treatment that lets in the light but cuts down the glare. Also the window is quite oversized and so ready-made hardware doesn't usually work. I will also need to cover my french door to my patio. I don't have a very big budget.

Hi Kim! Congrats on your win - I was pulling for you. I need window treatments for our small bedroom. We replaced sliding windows with a 36" double, double hung window that is only about45 inches from the sill to the floor. There is no woodwork to frame the window and we do not need to worry about privacy. We have beautiful maple furniture in a colonial style. I have used a quilt and shams on the bed. Do you have a suggestion? Thanks!

Congratulations Kim! As a fellow Queens NYC resident, I was rooting you on from the beginning and I wish you much success!! My question is how to make update a basement apartment light and airy. I have a neutral palette, with chocolate brown furniture and aqua accents here and there. Wanted to see if you can provide tips on how to keep make it a simple and zen -- I am looking for a sleek yet beach type setting. Any suggestions? Looking forward to seeing your new show, you rock! Hi Kim,

Congrats on a much deserved win!

I am building a mediterranean style villa in the Carribean. We have an open concept first floor with three 8 ft. wide sliders on the back wall to maximize the views. These look over a 30 ft veranda, on to the pool and ocean view.
What do I do for curtains. We need something that can be closed to keep the sun out, yet we hate vertical blinds. We want a casual luxury look? We also have 3 french doors, not sure what to do with those either?
    Thank you,

    Hi Kim,
When we moved into our new house I painted the Master Bedroom Red. I made a Quilt out of my Oriental fabrics. It is the Lone Star pattern. I had it quilted with gold thread in the Asian sachiko pattern. My problem is that is all the further my room got. I don't know what kind of curtains to put up. I have 3 windows that make a bay window area on one side. one side has a double door to the bathroom, one side has french doors to the outside and the other side has the bedroom door and bed on it. The bedroom is very big. We have a king size bed and plenty more room

Hi Kim, I have had a problem picking out a couch for our livingroom in the cottage design. I have an early american sofa and chair and I put sheets on it but it looks not so good. I wish I could make slip covers but the ones they sell don't fit.
It is a problem. Maybe you have some ideas. I don't have much money. How can I make the sofa and chair look better? If you have any ideas, let me know. Thank you and good luck designing.

Kim I was so happy you won!!! Great job!!! I loved all your ideas! I'm going to remodel our fireplace wall, it's 20 ft long, w/a 2ft hearth the length of the wall. We're tearing our all the brick and hearth (except in front of the fire place) that covers the whole wall. I want to build cabinets and shelves. I'm worried about it being too dark with stain but don't really want to paint it white or cream. I want to pick something that will stay in style, not too trendy. Should I use rock around the fireplace to break it up? If I go rich wood will it look alright all the same? I'm going for simple and beautiful. Our TV will be on this wall also. I would love some advice from you. I'm trying to think outside the box but still be traditional. Our home was built in the early 80's and lacks style, we're going to hopefully get it to say "NICE".

    Hi Kim,

    RE: Seeking Affordable Window Treatment

I have a large picture window in my living room - two small windows (about 22" each) flanking the larger window(about 60"). I'm looking for something decorative, naturally but also something effective in shading the room in summer as the window has southern exposure. I've looked into vertical blinds which run at least $500. Is there anything more affordable or perhaps more suitable?

    Thanks.

Congrats Kim on your new show. I would like to convert a bedroom into a room for me when my husband is watching his TV shows. Welcome to HGTV! Best of luck to you. Now...I have a question: our bedroom furniture is a high-gloss birchwood - a slightly orange-ish color (from Harlem Furniture), modern/contemporary design, brushed steel knobs/handles - have tried a sandy light brown wall color and now a medium/light gray wall color with white curtains and bedding. Looks 'just OK' - can you suggest a better wall color that would make the room "pop" but yet be a calm, sharp, classy looking room ? Thanks!

I am so happy that your show is finally going to be on. I live in NY and have a cat. Because he loves to look I have to have a window treatment that allows him access at any time. But we also have privacy issues because our neighbors' windows are close by. How can we dress up the windows while leaving the vertical blinds? Scarfs, cornices, etc.?

The one room is where you enter the house and has two windows.. not much room to locate furniture also the entry rway is tiled and comes out about three feet into room the rest is carpeted pictures can be emailed if you need to see the room.

Our master bedroom is average size with a low ceiling. We would like to know how to make the ceiling appear taller. I plan to install ceiling to floor side panels on the windows to add height. We have a ceiling fan (which we need) with a light... which we are eliminating as we feel it is too low. What would you suggest?

My lathe and plaster house has wallcoverings in every room. If I prime the wallpaper, can I paint over them? What do I do about any places where it seems the wallpaper is sliding apart? I especially want to do the kitchen. Every room is the same way that they were when I bought my house 8 years ago and I want to start making them mine but since its an old house, old walls, and wallpaper, I'm afraid if I attempt to remove the wallpaper that everything will fall apart. My luck the only thing holding my walls together is the wallpaper. HA!

Hi Kim, As a fellow design lover I look forward to your show. My big question is with two chairs in my living room. Am getting to repaint, going with a goldy/yellow wall color. Drapes are same background with florals. Couch is traditional with small barn red/cream check. Two wing backs same color, larger checks. Two great style chairs need reupolstering. Definitely need these to be a solid with so much pattern already. Woodwork is oak, absolutely cannot paint that white, boohoo. Help me here with choosing a color for these chairs. They are now a faded green. No more green for them.
What would look best? Ivory, cream, gold? Help, help, help please. E

That wall has an entryway in the center from the kitchen with a pocket door. The opposite wall has an under the stairs closet and a door to the hallway. The wall opposite the fireplace is the only wall that is without windows, although it has the door to the hallway at the end. This room serves as our television viewing room. My question is: What do we do when the fireplace and television have to occupy the same room? Where do we put the recliners and sofas? Where do we put the television? Right now our television is in a huge entertainment center on the wall where the under the stairs closet is. One recliner is blocking the fireplace positioned to the television. It's just not the way to lay out furniture, but we are clueless. Help!
