Tray by Tray

At first glance I thought this was a black tray, but it is a lacquered, green color. The website says each tray is unique, and is between 70-and 80-years-old. The dimensions are 17" square x 2" high. Priced around $70.

Here is another image of the tray from the vendor's website. Either picture shows a beautiful tray that would look great in any home.

While you don't belong in an office, you are stuck in one. Show your guests that you would rather be mountain biking with this bicycle chain business card holder. It is made from recycled bike chains. The design tells all those who take your card that you're active, environmentally aware, and love thoughtful details. Handmade by artist Graham Bergh in Oregon. A real cut up.

Posted by etipton – October 23, 2007 11:12 AM

We do not have room in our office for a shredder, and I worry about the safety of shredders with children. This Shredder Hand is a convenient and compact way to get rid of confidential paper documents. You use it like regular scissors, it just cuts more completely and quickly. This is a great idea for people who live with limited space. Priced under $20.

Fire woman, you're to blame.

Posted by etipton – September 13, 2007 2:22 PM

If you have a house fire, one of the hardest things to do is replace all of your important documents. Many times you need to be able to prove who you are, and if everything you own was destroyed that is nearly impossible. A fire safe is an inexpensive way to protect passports, birth certificates, bonds and other valuables from water and fire damage. Most of these safes protect paper up to 1550°F during a fire for 30 minutes and helps keep them safe from water damage. Safes start around $40.

Pass room inspection.

Posted by etipton – August 20, 2007 10:33 AM

I am continuing the dorm list this week. For your desk area, enjoy a space-saving printer stand. You can stash paper, ink cartridges or other school supplies in the compartments. This keeps them out of the way to store more important stuff - like pizza boxes. Priced less than $80.

The extra touches.

Posted by etipton – August 16, 2007 12:50 PM

When I lived in the dorm, one of the first things we did after moving into the dorm was head out to the local hardware depot and get four cinder blocks to raise our beds. At the end of the year everyone threw them away because they were too hard and heavy to store. I suspect that the maintenance staff used them to add onto their homes every spring. Someone decided there had to be an easier way and created these bed risers. By raising your bed a few inches you get more valuable storage space. Be sure to check with your university, though: some schools no longer allow cinder blocks or bed risers for “safety reasons.” Priced less than $30 for the set.

Most dorm rooms only have two or three electrical outlets, and with all the new gadgets you need multiple surge-protected plugs. The Powersquid gives you the flexibility to plug in large items without losing valuable outlet space. Priced around $20.
