I think plants are a nice gift. One of my favorite plants is the beautiful, delicate Hydrangea. I have one my daughter gave me a few years ago growing in our front yard. This is the perfect time of year to plant a Hydrangea. Jackson & Perkins have this nice Hydrangea in Tea Canister set. The colorful canister can be used in the kitchen after the hydrangea is planted outdoors. Priced around $55.

My daughter and her friends love anything alive. If it is alive, they are very interested in it. We got a Chia Pet for Christmas, and while it was fun, this World Alive kit looks much better. It is designed to teach children about growing bugs and insects.

Each set includes a net habitat, an activity book with instructions, a feeding pipette, a magnifier, padded tip tweezers and order information about how to buy eggs, larvae or insects. It is all you need to rear a live insect generation. Let your children learn about the life cycle, insect biology, and caring for a living being. The societies are interactive, educational and non-violent. Once the insects are raised to maturity, you can release them into nature!
Select from lady bug, praying mantis, or butterfly. Priced around $30 per kit.

I have shown these little grass pets before, but they are so cute I cannot resist them. "Nyokki" means "grow" in Japanese, and that's exactly what this Snowman Holiday Nyokki Grass Pets does! Its adorable ceramic body and fabric legs are hand-made in Japan. Filled with growing media and rye grass seeds, these grass-head pets are easy to grow - seeds germinate and grass grows to full height in less than two weeks. You can style your Nyokki's hair or cut it and watch it grow again! Priced less than $10.

My friend Tracy has one of these, and she uses it all the time. Her wreaths always look better than the one pictured here, but the stand is cute, and provides a unique, table-top accent. This vintage- look wreath stand comes in embossed cast iron, with finial in a distressed, white finish. It is perfect for your holiday or seasonal wreath displays. Also holds framed art. The stand is 6.5" wide x 6.5" deep x 30.5" high. Select black or white cast iron finish. Priced around $25.

Use the illuminated container as a night light. Ages 8 and up. Power adapter plugs included. After you set-up the habitat, ant ordering information is included.Priced less than $30.

There are so many fun products out there to use for growing herbs in your home. The adorable Eggling looks so cute, and is a fun growing experience. They come as eggs, and you crack the egg, water it and wait. They grow into edible plants. They come in four varieties: basil, italian parsley, mint and thyme. They should grow two to four months.
