Glove me tender.

Posted by etipton – June 6, 2008 1:58 PM

When Dad is at the grill, you would be smart to stay out of his way! The grill is so hot, and the flames dance around. It is very easy to get a burn. Do everyone a favor, and get Dad a red, silicone, BBQ glove. This handy grilling mitt will protect your hand and forearm from the intense heat of the grill. Unlike a mitt, the BBQ glove allows you to move your thumb and index finger freely, making it easier to grab and grasp tools, or pick up or push food around on the grill. The Silicone BBQ glove is priced around $15.

The Bzz on Pizza.

Posted by etipton – May 12, 2008 4:00 PM

If your tax rebate check is burning a hole in your wallet, I was poking around over at Williams-Sonoma, and came across this fancy, new pizza oven. It is the Beehive Pizza Oven. It brings the pleasures of cooking in a terra-cotta, wood-fire oven to your backyard or deck. While I won't have one in my backyard any time soon, it does look like a lot of fun. The Beehive Pizza Oven is priced around than $2,000.

Go team!

Posted by etipton – September 4, 2007 11:14 AM

I live in the South, where tailgating is a required part of the football game. Fans really put out a spread before and after the game. A 3:00 kickoff requires leaving your house by 8:00 in the morning to get set up for lunch. While looking for good tailgating equipment, I found this college team stainless BBQ branding iron. This one does not attach to the grill. You just heat it up in the flame and then brand the meat. This brand is especially neat because you can use it in the kitchen on the stove to brand things like tortillas. I have one that screws on to the grilling surface, and you have to put each piece of meat on the brand. I do not use it because it is so inconvenient. Priced around 35.

Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot

Tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo, the commemoration of the victory of the Mexican Army over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Despite popular opinion, it is not Mexico’s Independence Day. Like many holidays, it is now highly commercialized. In fact, Cinco de Mayo is now more widely celebrated in America than in Mexico.

Saturday every Mexican restaurant in America will be packed with revelers. If you are itching for fajitas, and do not want to wait to be seated, here is a great solution: The Fajita Set from Lodge. They make all the easy, pre-seasoned, ready-to-use cast iron skillets. This fajita set includes a griddle, a wooden underliner and a festive chili print pot holder. Yes, you too can bring sizzling, hot pans to your family and say "Be careful, the plate is extremely hot." Enjoy! The Fajita Set is priced around $20.
