HGTV Dream Home

One Last Clue and Then We Tell

Posted by fcole – April 11, 2008 2:37 PM

All right, here is the last clue to the location of HGTV Dream Home 2009. This one's pretty tough. Don't go crazy trying to read too much into that article or finding any subliminal clues in the image. You'll have to do a little research to figure it out, but there is a connection to the next location.

If after pondering that clue nothing's ringing a bell for you, don't worry. You won't have much longer to wait. We're going to announce the location next Wednesday in a new video starring house planner Jack Thomasson. So be sure to check back April 16 for the premiere of our latest film!

Pat Custer is from Santa Cruz, West Virginia. Santa Cruz!!!

Posted by Carol R – April 11, 2008 3:47 PM

Fcole,in my best Elvis voice... Thank you! Thank you VERY much!! (You're welcome!)

Posted by Charlottenoel, Pacific Northwest – April 11, 2008 3:51 PM

i think it is St. Helena. He stayed there while filiming Wild in the Country.

Posted by Katie – April 11, 2008 3:51 PM

I have been thinking it was Santa Cruz the whole time.

Posted by Karen – April 11, 2008 3:54 PM

Once again this article can lead you to many different guesses. Both Katie and Karen are right. One article led me to the Graceland Church in Santa Cruz and the other one to the Napa Valley!! I guess you see what you want to see and I see Napa in theDream Homes future! LOL.

I'm guessing Redwood City, CA

Posted by Candy – April 11, 2008 4:34 PM

I agree...clues lead to Santa Cruz, CA. I can't wait to tour the home! This one will be within driving distance. YEAH!!!

Posted by Ella – April 11, 2008 4:36 PM

I am gong to say Santa Cruz..... we'll see what happens! :P

Posted by Elizabeth – April 11, 2008 4:37 PM

I'm just going to throw some locations out as I read about them. Hayward is 35 miles from Portola Valley and a home to Graceland cellers wine makers

Posted by annie – April 11, 2008 5:06 PM

I think it is Phildelphia PA, why not?

Posted by Yvonne Rosson – April 11, 2008 5:12 PM

Yep, totally Santa Cruz. By the bay, middle of the Redwoods, and real dream weather. There could not be a better locale for the Dream Home. I will be entering daily for sure.

Posted by Casey – April 11, 2008 6:06 PM

Dear HGTV: This was a tough clue, however, I think I figured it out...What does Elvis have to do with the location of the next Dream Home...well, with my "super sleuthing" I came up with the following: "Graceland Cellars' motto "Rock 'n' Roll Never Tasted So Good!" This year is an anniversary year for Elvis. It’s the 30th anniversary of his life, the 25th Anniversary of the opening of Graceland Mansion to the public, and the 50th Anniversary of his purchase of his famed home Graceland. To commemorate this event they have launched a new Elvis varietal Stuck On You Shiraz and Elvis Always, a new numbered limited edition wines that follows the Elvis Presley Enterprises Annual theme. In edition an elegantly designed Etched Elvis in now available for ordering. These wines can be purchased in Sonoma, California, at the Broadway Market, the Sonoma Cheese Factory & Plaza Liquors. Now wine lovers (which you will find many in the Sonoma/Napa area), Elvis fans and Elvis enthusiasts have new ways to celebrate the Elvis legacy. I say "Let's toast to that!!" Cheers everyone. Love you HGTV!!

I should clarify that I am guessing that Pat Custer is from Santa Cruz, West Virginia. Couldn't find any proof of that, just that there is a Santa Cruz, West Virginia. Good enough for me - what do you say, FCOLE?

Posted by Carol R – April 11, 2008 7:26 PM

Found the link for Elvis Presley, Wine country, St Helena......... Am I right Fcole??????

“ The Ink House hotel in St. Helena offers Victorian elegance in the heart
of the famous wine growing region of Napa Valley, California. ”
The Ink House was the principal location for the 1961 Elvis Presley film 'Wild in the Country'

http://www.ila-chateau.com/inkhouse/

Posted by Hoof Hearted – April 11, 2008 7:31 PM

I BELIEVE THIS HOME WILL BE SOMEWHERE IN TENNESSEE.

Posted by MARIAF – April 11, 2008 8:14 PM

Could be Santa Cruz. But there is Graceland Cellars and they sell "Velvet Elvis" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and as stated by Katie..he did stay at the Ink House in St Helena. Anywhere close enough so I can finally go tour a DH next year.
Happy Friday everyone!!!

Posted by Becky from Napa Valley – April 11, 2008 8:45 PM

Fontana, California?
Good luck everyone!

Posted by msmaxsings1 – April 11, 2008 9:23 PM

If i am guessing could it be in the ozarks of arkansas that would be wonderful. posted by patricia D. Waynesboro GA,

Posted by patricia delaigle – April 11, 2008 9:26 PM

Well, there is a plaque in Santa Cruz commemorating a supposed "Elvis sighting". But I couldn't find any info on Pat Custer or document a city named Santa Cruz in West Virginia. Anyone have a link to verify that?

Posted by brenda – April 11, 2008 10:29 PM

I'll go for what seems to be the most likely connection (as mentioned by Katie) between the latest clue that links Elvis Presley to N CA: The 1961 movie "Wild in the Country" which was filmed in the Napa Valley in and around St. Helena and Calistoga. In fact, during filming, Elvis reportedly stayed in the "French Room" of a former Victorian-styled estate, now known as the Ink House B&B, in St. Helena for a full month.
So, from Portola Valley (San Mateo County) to Guerneville (Sonoma County) to St. Helena (Napa County), FCOLE has led us on quite a wild ride.
Where we stop, no one knows.
Well, if nothing else, we can check out the scenery on the Napa Valley Wine Train, take an incredible hot air balloon ride that showcases the beauty of the wine country, shop the upscale boutiques and discover classy antiques along Highway 29 storefronts in tony St. Helena, and spend a few days of luxurious relaxation at the hot springs and mud baths in the old west town of Calistoga. Don't forget the best wines, the most divine cheeses, and the heavenly haute cuisine.
Why do I sound like a blurb from the local tourist bureau?---because I am a product of the Napa Valley, and very proud of it. Winning the DH09 will get me back to my roots, with family nearby to boot.
OK, FCOLE, BRING ON THE VIDEO. I'M PAST READY.

Posted by DBCoop – April 11, 2008 11:09 PM

Again, I don't know as much as others about California, but I "AM" from W.V. (born there, raised in MI), so really, ANYPLACE in California sounds good to me.

Posted by deb – April 11, 2008 11:26 PM

Finally! I have been chomping at the bit to get another clue. I have managed to elimate some locations in California. I'm not telling, because I don't have to!! tee hee! There are so many possible left. I will review this next clue after I finish watching the current HGTV show. Thank goodness HGTV is there. It is informative, and entertaining at the same time.

Posted by cathy – April 11, 2008 11:38 PM

I don't get it, but I think "ringing a bell" might be part of the clue. I looked up Santa Cruz West Virginia and there's nothing that comes up, where are you getting that info? Looked up Elvis's last film from HGTV's last comment about "latest film" and that was shot in Pasadena, CA. I don't get it. The clue is probably so obvious I'm looking right past it, Help!

Posted by Ynotme – April 12, 2008 12:00 AM

Carol R wrote "Pat Custer is from Santa Cruz, West Virginia. Santa Cruz!!!" I've never heard of Santa Cruz West Virginia, where is it located?

Posted by sagg99 – April 12, 2008 12:18 AM

Clue #9 included a home from Portola Valley, and there is a Portola Drive in Santa Cruz. It could be nothing though, I was one of the people who saw an R and an H behind the door so I don't know anymore. Thank goodness we're getting the answer soon!

Posted by Deb (T) – April 12, 2008 12:45 AM

Santa Cruz, West Virginia? Not funny! HGTV Dream Home bloggers are not that gullible!!! That aside, I'm not sure how all the clues fit, but I guess Jack will be driving thru St. Helena's downtown area. Yes, Elvis was and is everywhere. Right?????????????????????????

Posted by Jill R. – April 12, 2008 4:47 AM

I bet money that it’s somewhere near Big Sure or Carmel.

Posted by Rod – April 12, 2008 7:39 AM

Dear HGTV: I believe that Custer loves to collect Elvis memorabilia & will not pass up the chance to purchase one of the new Elvis varietal wines, "Stuck On You Shiraz" or maybe "Elvis Always", a new numbered limited edition that follows the Elvis Presley Enterprises Annual theme. In edition, there is an elegantly designed Etched Elvis now available for ordering.
Now wine lovers (and collectors), Elvis fans and Elvis enthusiasts have new ways to celebrate the Elvis legacy, and there are three places that I know of where Custer can purchase the Elvis Wines in Sonoma, California (where I believe the next Dream Home will be built)...WOW!!! I think I've got this clue "All Shook Up!!!" Love you HGTV!!! Marie Miller

Posted by Marie Miller – April 12, 2008 9:00 AM

I watched something on tv a few months back. It was probably in January since Elvis' birthday is January 8th. It was about this woman who owned all the Elvis memorablia. I am not sure if it was Pat Custer, but it was the largest collection. THAT was amazing, what she owned. She sure loves Elvis. I do not recall where she was from, but as I said in an earlier blog, I do not know as much about California as other, but I sure am willing to learn. Where ever it is I know will be beautiful, and someone will be a very blessed person to win.

Posted by deb – April 12, 2008 9:37 AM

it's Half Moon Bay

Posted by Korry – April 12, 2008 11:30 AM

St. Helena would be lovely. I might even get over my disappointment about Santa Cruz, if that is the case.

Posted by Brenda – April 12, 2008 11:52 AM

I did a search for bell collectibles california and came up with a collectibles shop call Car+Mel! That's my guess (not far from Santa Cruz!)

Posted by Kristen – April 12, 2008 12:16 PM

There is a Pat Custer who lives in the northwest corner of California in a little town called Etna CA. I do believe we're there!

Posted by Sapphire – April 12, 2008 12:26 PM

The new HGTV Home is going to be built in Santa Cruz California.
I can't figure out what the initials RH means though........this has me stumped!

Posted by Vickie Mateer – April 12, 2008 12:26 PM

Santa Cruz, California is the location of the next HGTV dream home!

Posted by JB – April 12, 2008 12:49 PM

RH possibly stands for a winery in the area? Rutherford maybe???

Posted by Vickie – April 12, 2008 1:03 PM

The clue says you have to do some research. But I see two other things that may relate.

1. Elvis owned a home in Palm Springs, CA.
2. Wikipedia shows that Custer's middle name is Armstrong, which takes me back to Marie's guess of the Armstrong Estates.

So, what do you all think? I'm glad we finally have a timeframe for the big announcement :)

Posted by R. McCoy – April 12, 2008 1:25 PM

My guess is either Scotts Valley or San Lorenzo Valley.

Posted by Nikki – April 12, 2008 1:26 PM

Thanks for that last clue. There's a very interesting picture of "Elvis Armstrong Custer" on the internet. I think it's the Armstrong Estates.

Posted by Angie – April 12, 2008 1:34 PM

There is a city and area in San Fransisco called Redwood City or Redwood Peninsula...

Posted by Donna – April 12, 2008 2:11 PM

If you look back at previous clues, they have already said the home will be in California. My guess is Redwood City or Redwood Peninsula. Just off San Fransisco Bay.

Posted by Donna – April 12, 2008 2:14 PM

I think it is Fortuna or Eureka California

GRACELAND??????

Posted by joe – April 12, 2008 3:45 PM

North of Santa Cruz is a Redwood Rd and a Mystery Spot Rd. they both go up into the Hills. Could that be where the house is?
Also There is a Redwood Park and another Redwood rd or street there also. Both Places end on the side of a hill or in a valley. There is a golf course next to them....hmmm....

Posted by Ella – April 12, 2008 4:06 PM

I believe it's in Loleta or Eureka in Humbolt County-near the coast, bay and in the heart of the redwoods. My other guess would be Arcata.

Posted by darend – April 12, 2008 4:07 PM

No doubt about it, if anything is going to be DESIGNED TO SELL excitement, it'll be the DH09 nestled within a vineyard and redwood treed landscape SOMEWHERE in the Napa/Sonoma Counties. From the majestic redwoods to the ubiquitous wineries and the big city lights a short drive away, DH09 will have it all. If I win, the big question will be---DBCoop's awesome vacation home, or year-round dream estate? Cheers!

Posted by DBCoop – April 12, 2008 4:13 PM

Santa Cruz is a beautiful location. Way to go HGTV!

Definitely "wine country"--somewhere in the Napa Valley. Graceland Cellars has Elvis Signature wines--All Shook Up™ California Brut Champagne, 2004 Velvet Elvis Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, 2003 Etched Elvis California Cabernet Sauvignon, and a three-bottle Commemorative Party Pack. I have watched so much hgtv that no one really likes to watch television with me. I'm single and have raised my two sons and now they are grown and I'm in the same house. I've managed to pay the rent thru thick and storm. I guess this past year was the worst, I just knew that I would be able to move out of this house this year and finally begin to live just for me, but wouldn't you know that in November of 2007 I suffered a liver failure and I still haven't returned to work. Most of the people that I love have turned on be because while going back and forth to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville FA, I was diagnoised with being bipolar and I pretty much told everyone how I feel except my sister who took me back and forth. I even managed to get into an argument with her, but my question to you is if you all are ever gonna are even think about building a Dream Home any in South Georgia? It doesn't have to big and luxurious, just something a single women like myself could really call home.

Well, I'm not sure what to make of this last clue. I tried to make it fit into my previous guess of Sonoma and/or nearby region. When googling Pat Custer, I got an address of Cooper Road. So I plugged in Cooper Road in Sonoma and came up with BCC Builders who seem to have high ratings and are "green" friendly builders. Perhaps they will be building the 2009 Dream Home. They are actually based out of Sebastopol so perhaps this is the location. Sebastopol is still in the Sonoma County region. What do you think Marie Miller?

Posted by Lydia P – April 12, 2008 10:59 PM

It could be in Hayward, California where Elvis Presley wines are made--Graceland Cellars. It's in the area of the other clues. I had never heard of this wine before.

I am tired of the cold winters, have never been an outdoor winter person, summer, spring, fall-yes, winter---NO. I need warm. If it is under 60 to me it is cold, so yes, I could move to CA.

Wherever the next dream/green home is located it should utilize Greenblock ICF wall technology with its superior R-Value, strength against all natural events to include hurricanes, tornados and earthquakes. Along with being super engergy efficient it is also a quiet home that you do not hear traffic from the street or aircraft overhead. Greenblock ICF walls also greatly reduce allergens in the home and adds many points to LEED Certification. Take a look at www.greenblock.com

OMG! LMAF! Kohler's commercial is hilarious!!!! Jack if your listening... I hope the 2009 Dream Home gets one of Kohler's Overflowing Bathtubs! Now that is a bathtub!! Outstanding product Kohler!!! You also have a funny sense of humor... I like that allot!

Anyway, even though I can't back up my Santa, Cruz, WV statement, I am still keeping Santa Cruz, CA as my guess. Apologies to those who fell they have been led astray. Good one Vickie!! There is a winery called Rutherford Hill and it's right off the Silverado Trail. Silver was on the early Scrabble board and that would be a prime location for a the DH. Rutherford is the town just south of St Helena.
There's a lot of good sleuthing going on, but a few a of you are still way off the mark with those out of state guesses..lol. Thanks for the chuckles.
Why does it take sooo long for Friday to come and Sunday comes too quickly.
I'm really hoping for the valley....CHEERS!!!

I think the 2009 dream home will be in San Francisco!!!! Mary Hammond

Posted by mary hammond – April 13, 2008 9:11 PM

Well, this should be my last comment since we'll find out next week. But I've been way off so far, but here goes. FCOLE gave us one of his clues and said, "Since it's Good Friday.." I thought that was odd since I am Catholic and know that it is mostly only Catholics that observe Good Friday. Some people probably don't even know what Good Friday is. I just let it go, but then it kept bothering me. A lot of you have guessed Santa Cruz, and you know that it means Holy Cross, which goes right along with Good Friday. But then again, in the Redwood Clue, there was nothing to allude to Santa Cruz, so then I have to go back to Guerenville. So I can only narrow it down to either Guerneville or Santa Cruz. Since I've had no luck so far, I am guessing that I will be wrong yet again! It was fun, though!

Posted by Julie in RI – April 13, 2008 10:08 PM

From the clues you have given I am going for the Santa Cruz area. In between Monterey and Santa Cruz there is a wonderful are we have spent several family vacations in the area of Pajaro..west of Gilroy. It is a fabulous area for a dream home!!!!

Posted by Tammy Caldron – April 13, 2008 11:23 PM

I thought by the last clue in the game, most people would have arrived at the same location. Not so. The wild guesses, the goofs (some very creative and amusing), and those who have had such conviction about their guesses they successfully influenced others, have all made for a good scavenger hunt. I have enjoyed the process; especially since it was not that easy. So, I say thanks for the fun and echo the sentiments of one of the former bloggers by saying, "Wednesday cannot come soon enough." I feel bad for Pat Custer, Colonel Custer, the Armstrong Estates, Santa Cruz and Globe, Arizona. They've all been put thru the mill!
P.S. It's St. Helena in the Napa Valley. My friend saw someone who looked like Jack riding around town in a convertible a few weeks ago ;)

Posted by Jill R. – April 14, 2008 12:01 AM

Boulder Creek, Santa Cruz County, Big Basin Redwood State Park (or) Sky Londa, San Mateo County. The Summit Hwy. 35 from Los Gatos to San Francisco you can see the Bay or the Ocean from the ridgetop, where Jack filmed the location video. I know I am close, waiting for Wednesdays reveal. To Lydia P: I like your way of thinking & Sebastopol is difinately only a stone's throw from Sonoma...but, I still say the next Dream Home will be build in Sonoma, California, in the Armstrong Estates. ACP came up with some good ideas about this last clue..."The Ink House hotel in St. Helena offers Victorian elegance in the heart of the famous wine growing region of Napa Valley, California." The Ink House was the principal location for the 1961 Elvis Presley film 'Wild in the in the Country!' That's interesting, but I still think because the clue speaks of Custer love of collecting Elvis memorabilia that it will have to be the wine collection offered by Graceland Cellars...Sonoma, California, it's all about wine!! I liked your clue about Coooper Road...that is excellent...it just might be that BCC Builders could be building "our" next Dream Home!! Thank you HGTV!!! Marie Miller

There is one Elvis Presley in the CA phone book ... in San Francisco, CA

Posted by Jenette – April 14, 2008 10:32 AM

My guess for the HGTV Dream Home 2009 location is Sonoma Valley California.
We already know it's in California, near the Bay, in a "location not too far off the mark", The valley.
The last clue I believe refers to the Sonoma film festival in which Elvis and Annibel won two awards and were a movie was made which casted an Elvis impersonator who also performed at this festival. And too Elvis impersonators can be seen everywhere.

Posted by Diane – April 14, 2008 11:01 AM

To: R. McCoy I didn't realize that Custer's middle name is Armstrong...WOW! That really cements my feelings that Armstrong Estates is the place for the next Dream Home!!!! Good research R. McCoy!!!! Marie Miller

Posted by Marie Miller – April 14, 2008 11:21 AM

To D: Right on!!! I, too, believe the clue leads us to the Napa Valley...where you will find many signature wines & being that Custer collects Elvis memorabilia..she is diffinately going to buy the "Elvis Always", a new numbered limited edition, bottle of wine!!! Where will Custer purchase this new addition to her collection? No other place than Sonoma, California!! I wouldn't mind seeing a bottle of the same wine in my dream home in the wine cellar of the next HGTV Dream Home in the Armstrong Estates...my most favorite place on earth....Sonoma, California!! I have never been around for the revealing of a DH location. How far along is the building of the home when they do the reveal? Is it just a bare site, is it partially built or almost finished? I have been checking out the different locations that people are guessing and I think that they all look great. Anywhere in Northern California looks like an ideal location so now I'm excited to see the type of home they are planning on building.

JUST TO BACK UP A LITTLE HERE: The clues, in order, pointed first to the PORTOLA Valley area. Then the REDWOODS (state parks) clue. Add them together, you get PORTOLA REDWOODS State Park, located in the SANTA CRUZ mountains. Now, take the Elvis Presley clue (GRACELAND, of course), Google that (Graceland Santa Cruz: remember FCOLE said "rings a bell") and you come up with Graceland SANTA CRUZ (CA) Bible Church. So, where do you think FCOLE has been so craftily trying to lead us all this time?---SANTA CRUZ! This keeps us within the same area, with each clue bringing us ever closer to the actual DH09 location.
Admittedly, there is also a strong tie-in with the last clue about Elvis to the film 'Wild in the Country' which was mainly shot on location in St. Helena, CA, but I think it less likely that FCOLE meant for us to be darting around N CA from Portola Valley, to Guerneville, and finally ending up over in St. Helena. Besides, that loses the redwood connection, unless you count the Petrified Redwood Forest outside of St. Helena. Just more of a stretch to me.
That last clue has made a TRUE BELIEVER out of me---I'll bet my parachute the answer is SANTA CRUZ, CA. We finally nailed it, DIDN'T WE, FCOLE, and not a moment too soon. Those bells will be ringing come Wednesday the 16th.

Posted by DBCoop – April 14, 2008 12:36 PM

I will be honest and tell you all. I don't have a clue. Well, ok I have one clue, it's somewhere in California. I still think its somewhere between San Fransisco and San Diego, or else San Luis Obispo, or perhaps on the hills above the Hollywood sign since they are putting homes in there now. See, I told ya I don't have a clue. But I know someone will be very very lucky to win it. If it's me I hope it's near the beach.

How about Portola Drive in Santa Cruz?

Posted by lag – April 14, 2008 2:58 PM

RE: "RH" "Bell" & "Elvis", I think the 2009 HGTV Dream Home will be built in SONOMA:

Elvis = the KING: Mission San Francisco Solano was the northernmost and final mission in a chain of 21 California missions built along the "KING's Highway", El Camino Real, that runs close to California Highway 101.

Ringing a BELL: The "El Camino Real BELLs" have long been in place since the early part of the last century to mark the original route of "El Camino Real" from San Diego to Sonoma in California. Here is a photo link to the bell at Sonoma: http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WMZ84

The El Camino Real closely follows Highway 101 (PCH in the screen door clue...not RH?) in California. The El Camino Real was the first roadway in the State, built by the Spanish during the early mission days.

My taxes are done and filed and I can't wait for my reward on Wednesday, the 16th. That's when the dream really begins for me. Knowing the location, and seeing the floor plans and following the building of the home...and dreaming.
Thanks to all you great bloggers who have done the research to narrow it down to several wine county locations. I just hope the one who guessed closest and first would be rewarded with a bottle of wine with Elvis on the label. Got to close now, to watch my favorite HGTV shows. Pleasant dreams.

Here are my picks for the California 09 dream home location.
If it is as simple as Santa cruz, WELL SANTA CRUZ when I typed it in on google maps, a place called: mystery spot, popped up how funny!

And when you google Elvis California it popped up Spinout AKA California holiday movie and the race car parts of it was filmed in Los Angeles in the dodgers stadium.

There still is portola redwood forest I found it several days ago but today I found elvis dr. Santa Clara, San jose, california 95123 that linked up to it from google maps.

I found alot of interesting Elvis info in San Jose, silicone valley like a BLUE SUEDE SHOES BALLET SHOW. ran last year I think it said.

I even found a link to Elvis Presley Estates in Palm Springs. Just an address but NOW That's quite a bit SOUTH of Redwood city area but it does link up with elvis and california and there was another link to a 2007 article about a Reno Fontana , his family bought an old home in palm springs that once belonged to the Elvis Presley family and he wants to start up a graceland west if allowed by Priscilla...
Ok maybe I finally got it through a few guesses my last guess
Then there's Eureka, I found it.....! I hope! Can't wait till Wednesday. the 16 th make it early please! FCOLE! Can't wait to see where it really is! One of us had to get it right! Why don't you reward those who guessed it right at one point to be listed in the eureka club it means I found it! That would be a neat club name for those who found the location.
Here's hoping I got it right this year!
UNTIL wed. the 16th our dear FCOLE & JACK T VIDEO!

Posted by Carol R – April 14, 2008 7:59 PM

Why St. Helena, CA?
This is how I got there.
Clue 9 = Portola Valley = Dream Home built in a
valley. Don't want to get in any hot water.
geo-thermal CA area
Calista (hot springs)
Clue 10 = Redwood + tree + state park =Dream Home
will be built in a valley that is
close to redwood trees by a state park
= Bothe-Napa Valley State Park (dear)
Forget clue no "Shadow the dog"
Last clue = Elvis' Graceland wine which is grown
in Napa Valley and where Elvis has
a connection to a movie he made
there = St. Helena, Ca (5 miles from
Bothe-Napa Valley State Park)
Most of the Monopoly and Scrabble clues can also be accounted for, however; I do not believe possible clues such as boardwalk were actual clues. St. Helena has casinos, is close to the African Safari Zoo (zebras),has a number of tomato things going on, has cork (punt) for the wine bottles, has sun, music, Oxbow school/Ox Roast, Silverado, dance, sand, falls and more. Some of the clues simply pertained to CA.

I could be wrong because these clues can be twisted around to fit almost anywhere. So, what do you think? :)

Posted by Jill R. – April 14, 2008 8:03 PM

To DB Coop,
That church service "Graceland" does not exist anymore. And it was never the NAME of the church; just the name of particular Sunday night services offered.
The church's name is and was during the time of "Graceland" services the Santa Cruz Bible Church. Just a FYI tip to a good detective!

Posted by nina p – April 14, 2008 8:34 PM

Hi DB...you make some good points. However, there are redwoods in Napa at the Bothe-Napa Valley State Park; it's a beautiful 4 mile hike. Not far from that park is the Bell Canyon Park and I've hardly ever a seen a picture of Sterling Winery without the BELL tower in the shot. The Portola Valley clue could have been a in reference to Valley and nothing to do with Portola. The picture was titled "Vivid in the Valley."
Just some food for thought.
Santa Cruz is beautiful, but the valley is hard to beat. Let's face it..you get thirsty and there's a winery right up the road.
Cheers!!!

More than 30 original ELVIS PRESLEY movie scripts and song sheets were among the memorabilia items destroyed when Kashan Castle in Malibu, California was destroyed by fire on Sunday (21Oct07).

Owned by philanthropist and collector Lilly Lawrence, the famous landmark, also known as Malibu Castle and Hodge Castle, was one of the first buildings to succumb to the Malibu wildfires. Lawrence tells the New York Daily News, "Gone are 32 or 33 original movie scripts of Elvis. They were his personal scripts, with all his notes in the margins. "All the music for Heartbreak Hotel and American Trilogy, my favourite (are also gone). Untold things from Graceland. It's just devastating."

However, firefighters were able to save Presley's Nash Metropolitan car and his U.S. Army jacket before the flames swept in.

Lake Tahoe... home of Mama's Red Tomato a famous Restaurant and Lounge. Lake Tahoe is also not far from Death Valley. ( thus the word Grief on the scabble tile tray) There are many chapels (PRAYER)in Lake Tahoe for weddings and they are referred to as the SUNFLOWER Minsitry. Lake Tahoe also hosts ZEBRA muscles. Lake Tahoe is also in a Mountain Zone, but it is not Mountain time. This is just more supporting information that I have found. Thanks for reading..

Dear HGTV: After pondering fcole's clue "nothing's ringing a bell" for you, I started thinking about the Mission in Sonoma, California!! Maybe the clue is there to remind us that the Russian-designed bells ring in the Mission in Sonoma! Just a little history..."The site of Mission San Francisco Solano was selected and ceremoniously consecrated by Father Jose Altimira on July 4, 1823. It was named after Father San Francisco Solano, a 17th century missionary to Peru. This mission became the last and most northerly of the 21 California missions. The first building was a temporary wooden structure plastered inside and out with whitewashed mud. Several hundred Indian neophytes from Dolores followed the Franciscans to Sonoma, but the copious gifts from sister missions which usually arrived to start a new mission on its way failed to reach Sonoma. Help came from an unexpected source. The Russian fur traders proved to be friendly, sharing their supplies and donating Russian-designed bells." This may be a far reach...but the bells are ringing in Sonoma, California!!! Love you HGTV, Marie Miller

Can you sing "Under The BOARDWALK,Down By The Sea"
The location for DH09 couldn't get any cooler than laid-back, eclectic, coastal Santa Cruz, with its COLOR SPLASH of sparkling ocean blues and the lush greens of towering mountain redwoods. Now take that setting and add in all the well-known seaside amusements of its famous boardwalk, quaint and quirky shops, world-class surfing and progressive politics. What's left to say but cowabunga, dudes!(And, yes, there are some very fine vineyards too in them thar hills.) You might even find yourself passing some quality time on the Pasatiempo Golf Course (taking in the panoramic ocean views)or admiring the impressive homes while cruising through the upscale community of Scotts Valley. After you check out www.beachboardwalk.com, where you'll find FCOLE's infamous "GOLDEN TICKET", log on to www.beachcalifornia.com/scruz.html for all the low-down (and the high points) of Surf City, aka Santa Cruz.
You'll have almost as much fun hanging out at the boardwalk's "Giant Dipper" as we've had with FCOLE's roller coaster ride over the past several weeks of sleuthing DH09 clues.
OK, DH09 winner hopefuls, anybody for a SURFIN' SAFARI?

****I'm now fairly certain St. Helena/Napa Valley is the answer. I think the boardwalk and valley and redwood clues were just to draw us farther to the West Coast than the eastern Tahoe areas of CA. The Elvis clue is the one that was really meant to focus us in on THE location, and the connection is Elvis staying at the inn in St. Helena. I betcha! Santa Cruz, California seems like a great place to have a home built it's beautiful an all, however; this happens to be the one of the biggest attraction city in CA and has been since the 1770's. I would not think that the 2009 DH would be built here, due to the tourist, meaning the congestion of cars and people. Who Knows where the home will be built?. I did see a few home sites that were in the beginning phase as well as vacant partials located in and around portola Valley ie; around the home owned by the people with the yellow poolhouse. Just one question FCOLE. If the three and a half miles of city lights that are located in London Fog, Oakland the area which is also one of the biggest green community orginizations in CA and which is also near Portola Valley and San Francisco this making a tirangle, hints in Caters redwood door frame. What other city could this 2009 home be built within the close proxcimity of fun, lights and conservation? If Palm Springs is not the location I want to stay with my previous answer, Westside City in Portola Valley.

Definately Sonoma Valley. Grief=Good Grief as in Charlie Brown. Charles Schultz, the creator of Charlie Brown has an airport named after him in Santa Rosa. George Ranch in Sonoma is "Agua Caliente" or Hot water/ hot Springs. It's near the Sonoma Mission and a world class golf course. One real estate website had a picture of land for sale in George Ranch(sold last year) that looks very familiar. Hope it's in Armstrong Estates, but I'll take anywhere in Sonoma Valley!!!

1971 Cadillac Sedan de Ville

This black Sedan de Ville was purchased new by Elvis on 7th July, 1971 for his Aunt Delta Mae Biggs who lived at Graceland. It was also used on many occasions by Elvis and his entourage. On 22nd September, 1974, the car was given by Elvis as a gift to the parents of his girlfriend, Linda Thompson. The car was kept by the Thompsons until 8th July, 1981, when it was purchased by Wolfgang, a German investor, and taken on a tour through Europe.

On August 25th, 1992 the car was sold by auction in London for 50 thousand pounds to millionaire Jack Jackson of Tampa, Florida. However, Mr Jackson died in a plane crash shortly after. The car was then sent to Palm Springs, California for auction and a business woman from Las Vegas, Nevada purchased it and kept it in her garage.

Dear HGTV: Today is the moment we have all been waiting for...I am so excited to see Jack standing at the area in the Armstrong Estates where the Dream Home will be built, & to see some footage of the quaint town of Sonoma, California!! I believe Herb Caen says it best: “I imagine heaven to be a lot like spring in Sonoma!!" The vineyards and trees are leafy, the birds are singing, and the grass is lush and green. Picnic under an azure sky with local wine, breads, produce, and cheeses. Paradise! This would be heaven for me!! Thank you HGTV for the opportunity to DREAM!!!! Marie Miller

So where is that dream home already? I'm buckled into my office chair waiting "IMPATIENTLY AND mostly EXICITEDLY" on that video debut ride, with you and Jack.

I watched all of the clues as you presented them and the biggest clue for me was the very starting of the final clue. Before he brought in the street sign or the different wineries. The first part that you showed many vinyards and that was in the Napa/sonoma are. I drove thought there many times in the past 6 years and yes it is a very serene area. there are many beautiful historical areas to see and reflect on. As far as wineries some of the best comes out of this area. Each of them pride them selves in being the best on the market. The thing is that you can take care your time and pick and choose which onex that are your favorites.
