HGTV Dream Home

Clue #9: Decorating With Yellow

Posted by fcole – March 21, 2008 2:27 PM

It's Good Friday, so I think I'll throw out a pretty good clue today. Check out some of the gorgeous spaces in this article about using yellow to brighten up any room in your home. There are five rooms, and the description in one includes a location that's not too far from the mark. I don't want to get into hot water by revealing too much.

If you haven't entered yet, just a reminder that the HGTV Green Home sweepstakes kicked off today. The grand prize is a home designed and built with careful attention to be good for the environment, both inside and out. As usual, you can enter once a day until the sweepstakes ends on May 9.

Thanks again for all your guesses and comments, and have a wonderful Easter weekend!

And, will DH09 have yellow as a predominant color in at least 1 room?

SUNNYSIDE/TAHOE

Thanks fcole. Was thinking you forgot about us. Most of us felt strong about it being in the SF Bay Area. Thanks for confirming. After reading the article, and seeing Portola Valley mentioned..I believe I mentioned Los Altos Hills in a previous blog and that does look like where Jack is standing. I really hope the title "Vivid in the Valley" refers to Napa Valley though. Got my fingers crossed.
Keep up with more clues soon, and tell us if the city has been mentioned on the blog already.
Cheers!!!

Location is San Franciso, California

Posted by Brenda Price – March 21, 2008 3:19 PM

The Portola Valley is less than an hour away from Pacific Avenue in Santa Cruz! Did I get it right?
FCOLE: When will the location be revealed?

Hi, is the new home in Portola Valley, California?

Posted by Antoniette – March 21, 2008 3:27 PM

Hsd to post again. I thought about your clues..."brighten up" and could it be Sunnyvale down in the Silicon valley? Then I thought about "hot water"...right up the road is Calistoga in the northern Napa region, where you can reveal everything and jump into the hot springs.
Which one is it?

Posted by Becky from Napa Valley – March 21, 2008 3:29 PM

I think the 2009 Dream Home will be in sunny California!

Portola Valley, CA is close to San Fran, San Jose, and Santa Rosa. I think the 2009 Dream Home is going to be in the Santa Rosa mountains. Beautiful!!

1)santa cruz, monterey, carmel area: both get snow in the mountains/hills & are on a bay. 2)if not, then sonoma/north sf bay? mt tamalpais is in view & gets snow.3)longshot:near laughlin, bullhead city & az/nv borders & colorado river = bay, palms, casino, mountain time???

hi all! glad to see a new clue Fcole. It says in the clue that the place mentioned is close to where the house is going to be, not exactly where it's going to be. They aren't going to let us know exactly where, until the new owners of the house in florida are there, and they do their special, probably sometime in april. I think it's going to be in sky londa. It's near there. It's pretty much in the middle of the pennisula. That's my guess for now! have a great day everyone! hurray! california. still too far for me, but if there's going to be a tour sometime next year, I definately will try to get down there for the tour. lol!

I must admit that, although the guessing part is fun, that the '09 Dream Home location is anything but exciting to me. According to websites, Portola Valley is one of the most expensive places in the world to live, even though it is on one of the most dangerous faults in the world. If it is San Francisco--it's not a place I would ever want to visit. As I mentioned before, San Francisco was the site of the 1916 WORLD's Fair, where Thomas Edison did a light display called "CITY LUMINOUS" (City of Lights.) They certainly had their share of GRIEF and CRYing after the great earthquake. It does match most, if not all of the clues we have received thus far. Again, being from the East Coast makes it more difficult, I believe, than for someone from the West Coast to confirm the clues.

Posted by Julie – March 21, 2008 9:51 PM

I left my heart in "SAN FRANSCIO"

Posted by Blondesue – March 21, 2008 9:53 PM

I'm still thinking it is in Sonoma County, CA somewhere near the boundaries of Napa Valley. Several clues pointed to points of interest in Sonoma County.

Posted by Lydia P – March 21, 2008 10:38 PM

When is the Dream Home's location soposed to be announced? I haven't read anything about that yet. Is is soon? Can you give us that clue FCOLE?

Shara - NO to NO! We all already know it's wonderful CA! Sounds Bay Area to me - how about it? I still think it's Sta. Cruz. Are there other Boardwalks around the Bay Area? This one is famous. I still think this is it.

It is not anything I thought it would be.

How is geothermal energy created?

For thousands of years, direct uses of geothermal energy have included bathing, cooking, and heating. Today, geothermal applications have expanded to also include heating greenhouses; maintaining perfect temperatures for farms raising fish, shrimp, and alligators; for heating roads and sidewalks; and recreational uses at resorts and spas.
The first district heating plant was created in Boise, Idaho in 1892 and is still using its two original wells (Univ. of Utah 2001). Geothermal energy is also used to generate electricity. Geothermal electric generation plants are built directly over or near geysers. The largest geothermal field with an electric generation plant is “The Geysers” near San Francisco, California. There is also one located in Imperial County, California. There are three types of geothermal power plants: dry steam, flash, and binary.

Is there anything we can do ?

CORAL REEFS are in danger as in close to ext. How about Mill Valley where B.J. Hunnicutt was from on M*A*S*H

Posted by Becca – March 22, 2008 3:22 AM

Portola Valley is the locale for "Vivid in the Valley" guesthouse. The clue said that this location is "not too far from the mark." The question is: how far is too far? If you live in Texas, not far is 70 mi; in California, it would be five miles. So, new site might be next door to Portola Valley which would be either Los Altos Hills or Woodside. Or, if hot water is a clue and I'm from Texas, I would guess Carmel Valley which is close to Tassajara Hot Springs. Guess we need another clue.

Posted by Valerie – March 22, 2008 4:51 AM

I think that it is Sunnyvale, CA. Hope to find out soon.

Posted by Latina – March 22, 2008 5:04 AM

They said, "California is the place you otta be, so they loaded up the truck and movie to the bay." 'ROFL'
Dream home 2009 is going to be a "DREAM HOME"
But will it be a "Green Dream Home?"
That would make more sense with the price of everything going up! Just because it will be valued at 2 plus million. It should not cost you that much to live there....

And with the power problems that has been plaguing this state, it would make sense to have an Alternative power supply, such as a photoelectric (solar) back up power source.. Please have 3 real bedrooms, a master suite, a girls room teenage, and a boys room teenage...

Then you can add the guest room..

I can't wait to see the floor plan to see if its going to be a hit or a miss!
Thank You HGTV for another chance to dream and drool in hope and anticipation praying, that I'm the one you pick to win the home.

And if I'm the winner then you won't have to pay the airfare to get me to the house just pick me up in my new GMC Hybrid :)

I'm still voting for Idaho. I think the clue was Color Council and there is a town called Council in Idaho. Also, the scenery out the window looks a lot like Idaho.

Posted by sherry rose – March 22, 2008 9:45 AM

All along I believed it to be southern California. At first, somewhere between
San Fransisco and San Diego, or Los Angeles. Now I believe like others, perhaps Portola Valley due to the clues, BUT....it could also be San Luis Obisipo. Whereever it is, I know it will be beautiful, and a true blessing to whoever wins it.

Posted by deb – March 22, 2008 9:57 AM

Yes, clue #9 does mention Portola Valley, so I'm going with it right now. Did you know, that Portola Valley is the wealthiest town in the U.S.? From previous clues, I think it is near or on Sand Hill Road in Portola Valley. Most of my blogs have not been printed. I hope this one goes through.

Posted by Vickie in Tenn. – March 22, 2008 11:06 AM

Yellow tranmits to sunny & I can't think of a sunnier valley in California than the beautiful Sonoma Valley...in Sonoma you can feel the sun on your face, and marvel at the emerald hillsides, blossoming fruit trees, and fields of "yellow" mustard. Nothing more beautiful than the buds on the grapevines. I grew up in Sebastopol, California, and it would be hard for me to miss the view out the window on this Good Friday clue...it is without a doubt a view of the beautiful hills surrounding Sonoma, California. It would be a dream come true for me to win this dream house as my children & all my grandchildren live in Sebastopol and Santa Rosa area. When I retired, it was way too expensive for me to buy a home in that area, so my husband and I live in Oregon now. When I close my eyes, I can almost taste the air in the hills of Sonoma...something you don't forget as a child. Anyway, my guess is that the 2009 Dream Home will be built somewhere in Sonoma, California...please!!!!

Thank you HGTV,

I know the Green Home sweepstakes started, but does anyone know when DH09 entering begins??

Posted by Trinnimar – March 22, 2008 11:20 AM

It is either in the area of Santa Cruz or Laguna Beach (Three Arch Bay). They each are recipients of The Golden Ticket award, have boardwalks, and then the list goes on.....including the fact that they each have Portola Valley (or Hills) in their vicinity. There are many other clues that fit as well, however I was positive the location was in the Phoenix area, so what do I know? LOL

Posted by Robin – March 22, 2008 12:07 PM

I keep dwelling on what winning the 2009 HGTV Dream Home will be like....Each day traveling in Northern California will be filled with new adventures. You could take a walk down Golden Gate Bridge, surf the waves in Santa Cruz by day, and soar on the wooden coaster at the Beach Boardwalk at night. What a wonderful chance to experience sunny California. In San Francisco you'll visit Pier 39, Haight-Asbury, Bay Cruise, Alcatraz, Cable Cars, China Town and a theater. Venture down the coast to Santa Cruz surfing the waves, enjoying the beach and taking in the turn of the century wooden roller coaster on Beach Boardwalk. In Sonoma, where I believe the "Dream Home" will be built, you'll experience a mud bath in Calistoga and hike in the park where Jack London lived. Ride horses on the beach, see the tide pools and maybe try your skills at a ropes course. Evenings will be filled with many local fun activities such as movies, street fairs, bowling, ice skating and much more! This small town of Sonoma is a historically significant city in Sonoma Valley, Sonoma County, California. It is centered around its historic town plaza, a remnant of the town's Spanish colonial past. Sonoma today is a center of the wine industry for the famed Sonoma Valley!! Do I sound excited, or what???? This home is what I have dreamed of all my life. Thank you HGTV!!!

SAN FRAN and PORTOLA VALLEY mentioned...
....by multiple BAYS...CITY OF LIGHTS, etc.....(yay if that's it...close to home!!)

...but there's another PORTOLA in N. California and that one is near the really HOT waters bubbling out of Mt. Lassen.

Does anyone know if there's a hot-springs near Portola Valley?

FCOLE: THANKS FOR THE CLUE. I've been chomping at the bit!!!!!!!!!

PS. If this comes through twice it's because for 2 weeks I've been waiting days for my posts to show without success....so i am sending this a second time.

Good grief...comments from left field, right field, and the farout field already. Anyway, IF the IMMEDIATE area surrounding Portola Valley is the site of the DH09, I know without a doubt that driving to and from my new dream home along those ribbons of mountain boulevards, like a meandering Line in the Sky, I would be the happiest soul on Earth. FCOLE: FROM DH09, WOULD I BE ENJOYING A BAYVIEW, A STUNNING OCEANVIEW, OR PERHAPS, WITH THE ROLLING HILLS AS A BACKDROP, THE SPARKLE OF CITY LIGHTS ON A BREEZY SUMMER NIGHT?

Okay my guess is still in the Monterey Bay area, maybe closer to Half Moon Bay or Redwood Shores. All within the Portola Valley, I am a native of Sunny So Cali, and never desire to leave this great state. All the naysayers about earthquakes, fires, floods and gangs; you get that in any state, it just depends upon the exact location. I live in one of the safest cities in America, home of the Ronald Regan library.

Could you be a friend and help us out here? So many good guesses from the bloggers. The only thing I got from the Yellow clue.....Does the DH09 have a Pool House? That would mean it has a pool. Yipee! On a mountain overlooking a bay with a pool works for me. A sprawling ranch with lots of bedrooms and few stairs....Heaven. Pleasant dreams everyone.

for the people not understanding the clues. The 8th clue said the dream home is in california. So, it's not on the east coast, it's not in idaho, it's in california, the pacific time zone. Hope that helped clear it up for some people. CALIFORNIA WAS CLUE NUMBER 8. The 31st state. If you don't believe me, google it. Have a great day everyone. Just trying to help eleviate some of the confusion. Got to wait till 2010 for the next dream home, to see if it's in any of the states you're dreaming about now. :D

I would also love to win the diy blog cabin. not both but if i could even come close to winning either of the houses with all thier fancy pants technology and appliances i would be forever happy. i mean it i would have a smile plastered on my face forever

Posted by Annelise – March 23, 2008 2:18 AM

Somewhere in sunny California. That would be so nice. Especially after living life in Michigan. The older I get, the less I like cold. Hey wait, I have NEVER liked cold. I still believe it to be in Southern California, but I have heard that San Luis Obispo is absolutely gorgeous. I don't know as much about the areas as others do, but what I have seen and know it appears to be wonderful. Happy Easter and good luck to all. GOD BLESS....

Portola Valley sounds like the place - local web page suggests horse county and trails - riding theme - nice

still confused by "casino" on Monopoly board

I for one wish they would put more emphasis on the home and its amenities than they do on the "views". the home in florida was just plain ridiculous as far as the average american being able to take possession and actually live there and keep it. The people in charge of this whole "dream home" concept seem to have their heads so far in the sky that they have lost sight of a doable dream and one that requires a dream job and a dream bank account to be able to hold on to the house. the house in florida probably cost no more than 600 thousand to build if that much because the lot it sat on cost over 1.5 million to buy. i would rather see a more realistic "dream home" in the future. these arent dreams but fantasies, far-fetched fantasies. i am sure someone, not jack, could go out and find a piece of land for 300 thousand and build a dream home worth 1.7 million that really does have it all. even if my wife and I had an income of 100k a year combined, the taxes on something like these homes lately would still be unaffordable. at least the "green" home looks a little more affordable to the average joe or jane.

Posted by greg – March 23, 2008 5:22 PM

just for reference, in Portola Valley, the average income is 165k, in california, 65k,
im sure i would have a lot in common with my neighbors, my average right now is 40k

Boy, you bloggers are really sharp. PACIFIC TIME ZONE. Thanks! It's been a long time since I toured California, but San Fransico is still my favorite city, barely topping London (England, not Ontario). Don't know why, but SF charmed the heck out of me. We went from Muir Woods, down the coast to the Mexican border. Beautiful! Didn't get up in the mountains, though. So many wonderful guesses from all of you to consider. Except for people still guessing another state. Ugh! Well, I'll wait for the next clue from FC and maybe something in my brain will click. Pleasant Dreams and thanks again to the HGTV staff.

Lake Tahoe, CA without a doubt!

Posted by Marion – March 23, 2008 6:39 PM

Hi everyone! Great thoughts on this blog. I live in Beaumont CA. Riverside County. I use to live in San Diego and it is a very large county. Southern CA is huge and incorporates many large county's even LA.
A lot of area's mentioned are in the Central Coast region, which is just beautiful. We lived there as well.
The clues keep bringing me back to Southern CA

Remember the song "It never rains in Southern CA". Yellow is for the SUN, Boardwalks are at every Beach, Zebra's can be found by the San Diego Zoo and the Wild Animal Park, Mountains and Palms are everywhere.
That still covers a lot of territory. Could be Escondido CA which is the northern part of San Diego county. At this point I think is very probable.
Other thoughts that fit for San Diego County is the Bay area.
Trust me , where ever it is in CA I know it will be beautiful, cuz CA is a BEAUTIFUL STATE. Good luck to every one, I've got my bags packed!!

Posted by Jo Ann Brainard – March 23, 2008 7:30 PM

I hope that Portola Valley is right or anywhere near the bay area. There are so many rich people there that selling the house will be no problem. I remember hearing on the news there a few years ago that 20,000 people had an annual income of 1 million dollars in the bay area. I was blown away by that. I moved back east from the bay area just this summer, so my timing on seeing this DH isn't good. Would love to be close enough just once to see one of these homes, but would certainly be more thrilled to see it on winners weekend because that would mean I won. Odds are against it though, but nice to think about it. I really never thought they would ever build in California with the high cost of property. This will by far be the highest value prize by a long shot. FCOLE, do you know how many square feet they are planning for the house?

Posted by Sandy – March 23, 2008 7:37 PM

I was looking all over the Portola Valley area, but nothing really looked like the place Jack was standing in the clue. So, my "wild" guess is going to be New Almaden, however, it would be nice if the location was the Lake Tahoe area.

Posted by Kim – March 23, 2008 7:37 PM

Beautiful it will be where ever it is. California, the golden state, Pacific Ocean, mountains. Yellow is so popular now, and I love it. The rooms in all the clues are gorgeous. Good luck to all.

From all the clues, I am guessing that the next dream home will be built in the San Francisco Bay Area. More specifically, I am guessing it will be in the South Bay somewhere. If you're building in California, be sure to build up to code, guys! This area sure is beautiful, but it's also earthquake country...

I'd like to put in another plug for building the next dream home after this one somewhere in Hawaii. Moving to Hawaii is my dream, and I bet a lot of other people share that one.

Posted by Carrie Leilani – March 24, 2008 4:11 AM

Debby guessed Desert Hot Springs (March 21st 4:33pm above) as the location of the Dream Home 2009, and commented 'what a beautiful place!' All I can say to that is Debby's not been to Desert Hot Springs.

In the Palm Springs region DHS has by far the highest crime rate! (One in every 50 residents had a car stolen in 2006!!!) Ten police chiefs in ten yeats, and as of 2006 stats, one in every 300 residents is a REGISTERED sex offender! Ten times the area average.

PLUS, there are ZERO homes in the $2 Mil price range, you have to go 20+ miles to Palm Springs to find those luxury homes. The average value of 500+ units built in DHS in 2006? $134k
And it truly would be a crime to build a really nice home in 'Desperate Hot Springs' - so I'm sure it AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!

I vote for Portola Valley, CA or Santa Cruz, or maybe Calistoga. Woo Hoo! Can hardly wait for DH 2009!

As a NorCal native for 29 of 30 years in life, my original feeling was that this house would be near Santa Cruz (the mission), and half moon bay.
Truth is, anywhere by the coast in NorCal is gorgeous & I've dreamed of owning a home there since before I even knew what the word "mortgage" meant! We used to drive 3 1/2 hrs to the beach, Bodega Bay, Jenner, Santa Cruz, Half Moon Bay, Big Sur, etc....stay for a few hours then head back to the extreme valley of Modesto- a dream home for sure to be 20 minutes or less from the beautiful ocean. I long for the ocean again, where we live now we'd have to take a plane to see any water period. Good Luck everyone!!!!!!!! DHo9 Rocks!

It has to be somewhere on the coast between San Francisco (City of Lights) and Santa Cruz (monopoly clue - Boardwalk). I think it will have an ocean view. It does snow in the Santa Cruz mountains. This is going to be expensive!!! Will the house be smaller or will the total prize monies be larger??? hmm...

HGTV Dream Home is a several month commercial enterprise for high end products all incorporated into one structure that is then used as bait to build a loyal, and hopeful viewing audience who dutifully keep tuning in, in the hope of receiving the big end prize. It is nothing more than a brilliant advertisement ploy for HGTV, and the manufacturers of these products. The average wage earner could not afford a carpenter, mason, or electrician to come into their homes, and perform one tenth of the work shown on this show on any given day. That is not to say that the potential winner could not benefit, also, as a player in this enterprise. However, a lot more could be done to ensure that all those who enter the sweepstakes are made fully aware from the beginning, that unless they are already financially well off, they will never be able to keep this home, and will be forced to sell it for far less than the "Grand Prize Giveaway" value. However, this will still yield a nice sum for the winner to invest in a "possible dream". The HGTV "Nightmare" happens when the average Joe has no idea that the HGTV Dream Home is an "impossible dream". This is the cruelty of this game, along with the ensuing legal, and tax issues which can be overwhelming. HGTV surely is aware not many in their viewing audience will be able to comfortably occupy homes of the caliber they are building. However, they need us to entice the sponsors to participate in this grand infommercial. If this was not so, you would see ten small, manageable properties built, and given away as ten affordable dream prizes. How will the high end product advertisers, sponsors, incorporate their wares into this endeavor? These products and services are not designed for those living paycheck to paycheck. They are using this "sweepstakes vehicle" to showcase their goods. HGTV needs these people also. This is not a charity. They could incorporate just one high end feature in each home, and still keep it manageable for the average wage earner. Obviously, there is a reluctance on their part, and their commercial sponsors to do this; and it has to be of a financial nature. The viewing audience, product sponsors, advertisers, HGTV and you "the winner" are all partners in this big venture. Just be aware of where your place lies, and you could be a winner. However, not quite the winner HGTV would have you believe. You may get something for your participation that will be far more than you started out with, and the anticipation and hope are part of the fun, so keep playing! Just be informed, not naive. There is nothing more distressing than reading these blogs containing the tales of the sick and homeless hoping to win the "DREAM HOME" so all their troubles will go away, they can live in a nice home located in a wonderful place, ending all their misery, and finally making their lives worth living. A DREAM HOME is a place you can afford to LIVE in, not merely exist, comfortably surrounded by your family and friends. So keep it real, be informed, inform others, and good luck in the future giveaways. I will keep playing. I just know what I am really playing for.

Posted by Pat – March 25, 2008 5:18 PM

I have a question. How did HGTV know who the winner's family and friends were so they could plan the surprize?

Posted by Pat – March 25, 2008 6:07 PM

I think the dream home 2009 will be on the west coast. Somewhere near Napa Valley,California.

If I did win the 09 DH, don't think I would want to live in California. To many people there already.

Posted by Diane – March 26, 2008 5:27 AM

I know the DH is in Northern California in Marin County. That last clue showed a picture of it.

Just need you to verify it fcole.

Posted by lovelykitty – March 26, 2008 5:47 AM

It is... San Diego, California

Posted by Juri Fransas – March 26, 2008 9:10 AM

Are we going to Santa Cruz County, near Boulder Creek? Boulder Creek is the gateway to Big Basin Redwwods Park. You will find Henry Cowell State Park, Silver Falls, Golden Cascade Falls and Berry Creek Falls. I looked over all the clue's and American Idol Judge, Simon Cowell (Henry Cowell Park). I then looked at the Monopoly board with the play money with the backs just showing and the dice in the middle of the letter O with the number 3, that lead me to go back 3 years to Dream Home Winners 2005, The Cruz Family. The rest kinda fell in place, I believe the 2009 home is near Bouder Creek or one of the surrounding cities.

Hey, has anyone noticed the window in the HELLO, YELLOW room? It has a view of trees, hills, and a snow-capped mountain in the background. Could it be a hint and mean something?

Posted by Bonnie – March 26, 2008 9:39 AM

My guess is Vallejo, CA. Its next to a lake and beautiful.

Posted by Jennifer M – March 26, 2008 9:59 AM

I believe it is Sunnyvale, CA

Can't wait to see who wins. Love all the decorators. I go to visit friends at Hilton Head every year. Is it going to be there? I will be entering every day. Bette

Point Reyes, California?

Posted by msmaxsings – March 26, 2008 2:05 PM

I think it will be in San Francisco, California. Portola Valley sounds also like it could be there also. But anywhere in California would be fantastic. I live in Miami but was born in California and if I could I would live there.

Posted by Denise – March 26, 2008 2:27 PM

California would be great. And a KING SIZE bed in the master this time. Why would you have anything else?

Yellow signifies the wild mustard that is now in full bloom throughout the Napa Valley

Posted by marilyn – March 26, 2008 3:06 PM

There are two pictures which mention New York.

Remember folks, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and there are taxes and insurances to be paid on these properties, along with whatever else. That said, let us all be thankful to HGTV for the opportunity. And again, if you don't have dreams. Even just looking at these houses takes ones breath away. Outstanding job HGTV.

San Francisco, California.

Posted by Dottie – March 26, 2008 4:44 PM

Is it in the Ozarks in Missouri!

Posted by Mary – March 26, 2008 4:47 PM

Santa Cruz CA is still my guess. On google earth it shows the same type of terrain as in the video. I hope it is by the ocean. Hey, aren't we due for another clue??

Posted by beth – March 26, 2008 4:49 PM

I was thinking the same thing Marilyn. We do a really long mustard festival that spans over a month long and each area of the valley does a celebration. Went to Calistoga's about 4 weeks ago and the one in downtown Napa about 2 weeks ago. We do love our wine and mustard, and the valley is just beautiful right now. I sure hope it's here in the valley. There is a new development going to start here called Hidden Hills in the Browns Valley area. This is an area in Napa, and the track style homes are going to range around a million...but they are offering custom home sites. Here's the site for Hidden Hills. http://www.obrienhomes.net/neighborhoods/hiddenhills/

Sunny California, not sure of exact city.

Posted by shari dixon – March 26, 2008 8:45 PM

Sounds like it's somewhere in the San Francisco Bay Area, near "The Mark," (I believe that's a famous building in San Fran.) Of course, that's one huge bay.

Posted by noni – March 26, 2008 9:26 PM

A reference to venetian plaster in one of the articles...doesn't Venice, CA have a boardwalk?

Posted by sherry – March 26, 2008 9:31 PM

Is it in San Jose, CA?

Posted by Jaime – March 26, 2008 10:24 PM

2009 DREAM HOME WILL BE IN MONTEREY,CALIFORNIA

Posted by ed b – March 26, 2008 10:49 PM

No, I have changed my mind. Santa Cruz is my final answer.

Posted by Jaime – March 26, 2008 10:50 PM

I wish we all could win a dream home in
California. Then we'd all win! But that's a fairy tale, isn't it? I believe for a few of
us, fairy tales really do come true in one way
or another. Good luck, everybody!!!!!!

Right on Pat!!! I am also not naive and believe that in today’s economy HGTV would do much better in building homes that the average/below average Joe/Jane would be able to afford to keep their "American Dream Home." HGTV is building "impossible to afford dream homes" for the average/below average Joe/Jane's in this country. What about all the people who really need a home, a modest home, wouldn't that also be a "dream" come true for them? God knows there is still plenty of land available in this country to build "modest" homes and I am sure HGTV would see many tears shed from the winner mostly because these people never thought in a million years they would ever own their very own "affordable dream home." Yes, the winners of these homes wouldn't have an ocean view, lake view, or any of the frills that go with a luxury home ... but I'm guessing if you asked them they would just be so grateful to own a home.

Just deb again HGTV, hoping for my chance to win a home in California. That would be a nice place to retire to. Away from cold Michigan, and my family could come visit. THANKS AGAIN HGTV FOR THE DREAMS.

Posted by deb – March 27, 2008 9:23 AM

Is this the only place to enter this contest?

Posted by msmaxsings – March 27, 2008 11:06 AM

Thank's Pat for your lonnnnnnnnnnnng informative post. But IMHO I beleive we all can handle the consequences of winning the 2009 Dream Homme. And are not really interested in Peter Pan's wires.

FCOLE: Have been waiting for the next clue but have come up with some questions...I believe it is located probably in the Irving District of Fremont which is in the Bay Area.....Am I close???? Just give me a little hint???

Posted by Charlene – March 27, 2008 12:31 PM

I sure hope it is more towards Sanoma, bodega Bay , Petaluma , sebastopol. We can get more for our buck for everything including privacy, and it's not that far from san Fran. It's a dream home , were suppose to have our cake and eat it too. I found a place that has SOME property, with a 3 bd. guest house, plus so much more for 2.3 mill. I want something like that, use the guest house as a vac. rental. Even If you had to rent out the main house and use the guest house for your own vac. house. That would be nice, on a boat on the ocean, with your own private resort. Now thats a dream home.

Posted by annie – March 27, 2008 12:54 PM

My son and I have always guessed Santa Cruz but I looked at Becky's link to Napa and it was such a gorgeous place! I have the French Laundry cookbook and hope to one day visit the restaurant. I've checked home prices there before since I think it has to be the perfect place to live and figured out pretty quickly that it was out of my reach. It would be doubly exciting if Napa was the location.

As far as building several small homes, I think this is a noble idea but I think the Dream Home should be huge and unbelievably beautiful. I mean, if you're going to dream, dream big. The chances of winning are very small anyway. The best part is in the dreaming. If you do win you can get your moment in the sun and can use the proceeds from the sale of the house to make your own personal dream.

fcole! California for 2009 Dream Home! High five Scripps!!! I'll say again, "La forza del destino "The force of destiny"
Moondoggie came out west and in wine country!!! Be still my heart... hold up, let me do my happy dance!
Can it get any better! hum, what will 2009 design be... High Tech? Sea view? Victorian? Green? Horse Estate etc etc.

Or... just maybe for the piece de resistance an 'Italian Villa' with a tiny vineyard? Jacks design team will no doubt construct nothing less than a slice of heaven right here on earth...

Jack, if your reading our comments, a wise Italian once said, "What is in the soil is in the grape, and what is in the grape is in the wine" ...as should be with this next design!

Composer Puccini, song 'Opera Gianni Schicci' Bocelli' let the music and a wonderful area wine inspire you...

This is one 'Dream Home' location I will have the opportunity to see in person... I can hardly wait, to be moved home by summers end. What's my 'fcole' score, over the top!
I also love the design & décor in the "Green Home" ...Good luck everybody! Charlottenoel

If you read each separate article about the shades and hues of yellow for each picture, you will notice that Portola Valley is mentioned once and New York is mentioned twice. If you look up Cities and towns of California, you will find there is a Newark, California. Now you can go to mapquest and plot that Portla Valley and Newark, California are across from each other and span south of the San Fransico Bay. To the south is Sunny vale. I think that the DH09 will be somewhere in this triangle of California.
Check it out...http://www.mapquest.com/mq/3-YEUxZbJZ_KIiOdEMmC22 Keep up the good work! This is fun

Posted by Pat M – March 27, 2008 8:53 PM

we think the location is Portola Valley of Sunnyvale
