HGTV Dream Home

Clue #4: Lounging in the Florida Keys

Posted by fcole – February 29, 2008 9:27 AM

As you may have noticed, we like using the Scrabble board to give out hints to the location. I just replaced one of the images in the sitting room and day lounge slide show to sneak in a new Scrabble board. There are at least three words on the board that could apply to the state where we're heading with HGTV Dream Home 2009. Be sure to check back Tuesday for another clue to the next location.

Also, I've noticed a lot of fans out there wishing for an HGTV Dream Home in Puerto Rico. That sounds awesome, but we've got to keep it somewhere in the 50 United States. But even though we're not going to put an HGTV Dream Home in Puerto Rico, our friends over at sister site FineLiving.com are going to send someone on a luxury vacation to the Caribbean island. You can enter their A Taste of Fine Living Sweepstakes once a day until March 10 for a chance to win a trip for two to the Gran Melia resort in Puerto Rico, plus $10,000 spending cash.

I bet this next Dream Home is going to be in Vegas, baby!

It sounds like Missouri to me. I think next year's Dream Home will be at Lake of the Ozarks or near Branson. Among the clues are: silver (Silver Dollar City), arch (St. Louis), BBQ (Kansas City), cove (Lake of the Ozarks has many), music and dance (Branson is a great entertainment center). I hope I'm right. Missouri is a beautiful state and very laid back. Good luck to everyone on guessing the new location!!

Posted by Kathy – February 29, 2008 4:44 PM

Apple? Has to be in Washington State. It's about time too!

Posted by Christine – February 29, 2008 4:48 PM

Next Dream Home will be in Grafton Vermont.

Posted by Sandra Paglia – February 29, 2008 4:54 PM

Next Dream House is going to be in Vermont! I think.......

Posted by Sandra Paglia – February 29, 2008 4:56 PM

I hope the next Dream Home will be somewhere absolutly awesome and beautiful. I am totally stumped over the clues- there are too many to figure out! However, it has been a lot of fun trying, that's for sure. Right now, I'm just anxious to find out who the winner is. I hope it's me! Please God, let it be me! And if it's not me this year, please build the next dream home somewhere in the Northeast. That way, I can be close to my family and won't be a thousand miles away!

Posted by Chance M. – February 29, 2008 5:06 PM

I think the next HGTV Dream House is going to be in Pennsylvania at Presque Isle. That's my guess.

Posted by Susan – February 29, 2008 5:24 PM

Once again I change my mind. Is it Hawaii???? I hope so.

Posted by Vicki – February 29, 2008 5:27 PM

Sun, Rain, Apples and the picture of the Seattle Space Needle or whatever that is... I think it is in Washington State. I thought Globe Arizona all along, but now I think all that was just pointing west. So now I have changed my mind. Could that other pic be downtown Seattle? Hmmm. Expensive place, but beautiful!

Maybe one day, it will be in Virginia. We have it all. Sun, Beach, Mountians, Skiing (both kinds) and surfing. Oh, maybe next year.

Patty in Virginia

Posted by Patty – February 29, 2008 5:32 PM

Sun, Rain, Breeze, Sand, Cove, looks like Aloha might be in there!??? It's SO Hawaii! Yippeee, I am SO excited!!

Posted by Leslie – February 29, 2008 5:33 PM

Aloha! Hawaii, perhaps? A nice cove with a luxurious breeze and soft sand underfoot. You folks are the "cat's meow" at finding the ultimate dream home locales!

Posted by Carol Alexander – February 29, 2008 5:38 PM

So, fcole, could you tell us how many words from the previous Scrabble board clue might apply ??

Posted by Tealdreamer – February 29, 2008 5:39 PM

chicago!!

Posted by brittany – February 29, 2008 5:39 PM

Missouri was famous for apples, back in the 1800s... so I think Kathy is correct in her guess.

Posted by Anonymous – February 29, 2008 5:44 PM

I am guessing Washington (apple, mountain, sea, rain, sun) or New York (apple, lake Erie, mountain ((Whiteface)) windy. The Adirondacks would be a fabulous place for a dream home.

Posted by nan – February 29, 2008 5:50 PM

I think the 2009 dream home might tbe in Ohio. Here is why: Lake Erie, sand, Punt (football is huge here), Apples (known for one of the best apple states), breezy, dry, rain-Ohio experiences it all! Cry is one of the clues also and the Buckeye Battle Cry is known state-wide. Michigan could possibly be it as well, but being an Ohioan, Ohio is always chosen over Michigan :) It will be fun to find out!

Posted by ALi – February 29, 2008 5:51 PM

I hope the next home is built in Washington State in the Bellview area. We were stationed there when my husband was in the Marine Corps

If not ther than in western North Carolina in those gorgeous mountains.

I hope we win wherever it will be as I'm really,really,really,sick and tired of Pensacola,
Florida. We need a change!

Posted by Elinir Beeler – February 29, 2008 6:00 PM

Ok...it was looking like Arizona, Kansas, Utah or Nevada, but now I see some new places on the Scrabble board...Washington (apple & rain), Hawaii (aloha, sun & sand), and Louisiana (oui, fat & even their quarterback Drew BREEZE)from the clues I can see. Now there are just too many states on my list. You even threw in Erie on us. I wasn't up in that part of the country, until now. We need some more clues fcole...pretty please!!!

Posted by Becky from Napa Valley – February 29, 2008 6:02 PM

I THINK WITH THE CLUES SO FAR IT SOUNDS LIKE HAWAII BUT I HOPE IM WRONG AND ITS REALLY IN EITHER UTAH OR NEVADA. HAWAII IS NICE BUT WAY TOO COMMERCIALIZED AND FAR FROM FAMILY. UTAH AND NEVADA ON THE OTHER HAND ARE BOTH BEAUTIFUL AND CLOSER TO FAMILY AT LEAST YOU CAN DRIVE TO SEE PEOPLE. I DON'T LIKE PLANE RIDES SO I WOULD RATHER NOT HAVE TO GET ON ONE.

Posted by MICHELE – February 29, 2008 6:04 PM

I believe it is somewhere near St Louis Park Minnesota. Here's why.
Minnesota is famous for apples.
Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes.
St Louis Park is home to Latitude Maps and Travel Store, a globe supplier.
The tiles in clue 3 "OX", Babe, the big blue Ox of Paul Bunyon, who some believe is from MN, and the lakes are from his footprints.
The Arch, BBQ, and Beef would lead you to St Louis Missouri, but don't be fooled.

This is just what I think. I wonder if I'm close.

Posted by Daniel – February 29, 2008 6:06 PM

I'm still keeping OH and PA on my list.

Posted by Devin – February 29, 2008 6:07 PM

The dream house is in hawaii

Posted by marjorie – February 29, 2008 6:08 PM

Thanks for putting this hint in my favorite room in the DH08. Isn't it beautiful! Lifeboat? We old timers remember that movie, and you young ones can research it if you think that might be the clue. Apple, love, tomato, what is a love apple? Sun, rain, sand, apple.... that could be my home state, and almost every other state in the Union.
I was so sure of my guess of Utah, but now I must go back to the drawing board, er, the Scrabble board. Waiting for the next clue and hope it is not another Scrabble board. Easy for you, fcole, but hard for us with low vision. Love to all bloggers, dreamers and HGTV. THIS IS FUN!

Posted by Katydid – February 29, 2008 6:08 PM

How about Hawaii for next site?

Posted by Verna – February 29, 2008 6:12 PM

FINAL ANSWER LAKE TAHOE

Posted by anonymous – February 29, 2008 6:19 PM

It's fun trying to determine the 2009 site. I would like a home to be built in an area, where the land value would not so costly. My desire would be to see just how creative and over-the-top the HGTV home, within itself, could possibly be.

Posted by Rodney Ainsworth – February 29, 2008 6:19 PM

I THINK IT IS ON LAKE ERIE. THERE HASN'T BEEN A DH IN MICHIGAN. THE GLOBE SHOWED LOTS OF WATER. HGTV LOVES TO DO THE BEACH FRONT THING. ON THE SCRABBLE BOARD IT SAYS ERIE GOING DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BOARD. IT ALSO SAYS SAND, LIFEBOAT, LAKE, COVE, AND WISH.

HMMM.

Posted by LISA QUALLS – February 29, 2008 6:22 PM

Any where it has warm weather, sand, fish,and palm trees. Just right to retire.

Posted by Thomas Moone – February 29, 2008 6:22 PM

Sounds like the next beautifully, unique dream home will be in Washington state. Nice locations abound there.

Posted by Kathy – February 29, 2008 6:24 PM

I'm waiting for more clues. Kathy's guess so far looks good. I live very close to Lake of the Ozarks and it would be wonderful location. In the first scrabble board, I first read MUSIC AND PLAYER instead of PRAYER and thought of Scott Joplin, famous composer of RAG music. Clue #2 with the Globe, well Joplin Globe is a newspaper.
Toss the word ARCH, SILVER for Silver Dollar City, BBQ, WHEAT AND BEEF....

However, it can be in the state of Califonia or Hawaii. Notice the second scrabble board. If you place the letter 'L' at the top left corner you have ALOHA and 'L" at the bottom right corner you have the word "Falls". Hawaii has so much beautiful water falls.

Gets you thinking! Good luck!!

Posted by Christina F. – February 29, 2008 6:27 PM

Hey, I am almost 100% positive its the Big Apple
clue words Lake Erie, Apple. Let me know if you agree

Posted by Rose – February 29, 2008 6:30 PM

I just picked up the lastest issue of National Geographic, and what to my wondering eyes should appear: an article entitled "THE GOLDEN TICKET". It refers to the area just North of San Fran.,CA just beyond the Golden Gate Bridge. This article goes on to mention: Highpockety "Ox" (a restaurant), Boggs "Mountain", Calistoga "BBQ". This area has "sand", "sun", and ocean "breezes"
I can't go there, they would have to legalize ferrets first!

Posted by Dawn – February 29, 2008 6:31 PM

Lake Erie.

Posted by Paula – February 29, 2008 6:35 PM

UTAH, OF COURSE!! :)

Posted by Jan – February 29, 2008 7:01 PM

The dream house is beautiful and whomever wins it will be extremely fortunate. Whoever it is, I wish you good fortune and blessings.

Posted by Linda Roberts – February 29, 2008 7:05 PM

I still think 2009 dream will be in Tennessee

Posted by Anonymous – February 29, 2008 7:13 PM

okay....I had been thinking North Dakota because of the wheat, sunflowers, etc. With new clues I see the words lake, erie,apples, tomatoes. States bordering Lake Erie would be Pennyslvania, New York, Michigan, & Ohio.

Posted by Teresa – February 29, 2008 7:21 PM

I think it's Missouri, It does have just about every thing that is listed on the boards My family is from there and It is a great place. I know I would love it there.

Posted by Tammy – February 29, 2008 7:53 PM

I am just as anxious as the next to see WHO the
winner is going to be. Like everyone else I hope it is me. And, I would love it to be this year I
love the beach....So you see this would be ideal.
It would also be the perfect spot for my friends and family to vacation.

Posted by Samantha Horvath – February 29, 2008 7:58 PM

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At first I was thinking Branson, (missouri) Silver dollar city and the tourist area there. with all the clues from the first board: mountain, casino, silver, prayer, bbq beef, music, or Las vegas (grief & prayer) I wonder what person hasn't felt both prayer for a big win and grief when loosing all that silver ate up by the slots. Then at the same time those clues could link to Louisiana (hurricane devestion) or Nashville or memphis tn. (tornadoes)
Most all of the clues from the second board: Really made me think of where I love to go all the time, wish, cove, (Cades cove) love, (wedding chapels) dry, (drought) road (thunder road ride in dollywood), (scenic driving) dance, (music shows etc) fun, mini (golf)
Long story shortened.
I'm now thinking and going with ........ ( THE PIGOEN FORGE, SEVEIRVILLE TN) area. I know the area well, my favorite vacation spot. Dollywood used to be silver dollar city in the 80's and is linked to silver dollar city in Branson, Missouri and Stone "mountain" in Ga. You can get that info at www.dollywood.com then go to the link to the right about dollywood link for brief history. we also have the Smoky mountains and casinos in cherokee nearby. I may have sent two things in if so sorry. I felt like I probably lost the first blog. I rest my case until fcole proves me wrong on Tuesday....... yes, diy (sister station) has & is building blog cabin in tn but Hgtv has not built a dream home there........... so my guess is it's in for the possibility of 09 dream home coming....
Posted by Carrie Miracle – February 29, 2008 7:59 PM
I'm sure it's not Michigan....but what a beautiful state to build your dream home. Ever seen the GREAT lakes!! Beautiful in every season!!
Posted by pati – February 29, 2008 7:59 PM
Oh yes I forgot to mention all the festivals dollywood presents every year! Gospel, kids, nations, (world) crafts fair and an awesome christmas time.
San Juan Island in the beautiful state of Washington
Posted by William Nunn – February 29, 2008 8:42 PM
I agree with Cristine. THe clues are sun, rain, and apple and all thee are in WAshington State.
Posted by Candace – February 29, 2008 8:43 PM
I think and hope it's in Austin Texas. Green living is what Austin is all about and the colors and other clues fit in with our Hill country farms and vineyards, lakes and more.
I think the next HGTV home is going to be built at Lake Erie. It has sun, rain, lifeboats, fun, breeze, it has it all. I think I am right. Waiting to find out who wins this years home. I sure hope it is me. I am tired of this cold Nebraska weather.(HGTV Rocks)
Posted by Lorraine Stratman – February 29, 2008 9:31 PM
I still believe it will be on one of the Hawaii Islands.
Posted by r.s – February 29, 2008 9:32 PM
I hope it is in Missouri, I have lived here all my life I am almost 42 , and I love it here! and there right , we are laid back people? LOL
well if I don't win the home in Florida. then I guess you could make the other home here in Missouri, you can't go wrong there... it's a beautiful State.
Posted by donna – February 29, 2008 9:44 PM
Let's see, Rain, Falls, Apple, Cove, Music and Dance.... has to be Seattle
Posted by Juliet – February 29, 2008 9:47 PM
Maybe will be in Las Vegas??????
Posted by liliana – February 29, 2008 9:47 PM
Beautiful Lake Tahoe, CA
Posted by Marion Kittredge – February 29, 2008 9:47 PM
The clues on the Scrabble boards are suggesting the state is KANSAS.
Posted by Cindy K – February 29, 2008 9:49 PM
I think everyone is over looking the obvious. The next Dream Home will be somewhere around Lake Erie.
Posted by Mark S. – February 29, 2008 9:53 PM
In the new clues, I see Lake, Erie, Falls. Hmm, but I also see Aloha, Dance. Now, I don't know which clues apply.
Posted by Jan – February 29, 2008 10:30 PM
My first instinct was Hawaii - after looking at these scrabble clues, I'm more certain. Breeze, cove, aloha, falls, sun. By the way, I read someone's blog that said the golden ticket clue was gone. I just looked and I read it just as I had before. I guess I don't understand.
Posted by Lori – February 29, 2008 10:36 PM
good work on this home. The next design star needs to be on landscaping and about using flowers and other things used in gardens. It seems we have enough home design shows and home buying shows, So lets get more gardening homes.
Posted by Jack Raney – February 29, 2008 11:01 PM
Well its either here or there the clues make you think and then change your mind its killing me slowly but you can`t stop thinking. Well I hope its not here its snowing and so cold.Can`t wait for trout season.
Posted by Mary – February 29, 2008 11:18 PM
I agree with Floyd the Barber, Vegas. In fact I think it will be a luxury townhome in the Palms development. Scrabble boards show the words Casino, Palm, Rain and Falls. Casino and Palm are more obvious, They have waterfalls at the pool/spa and Rain is a club at the Palms. In addition, the globe picture can relate to the location of the Moon relative to the earth and "Moon" is also a hotspot at Palms. Of course the scrabble boards also contain other combinations of words like sand, breezy and sea.
What about Silver City, New Mexico?
Posted by Shirlene – February 29, 2008 11:35 PM
I think it might be somewhere around Lake Erie. It is somewhat Windy and Breezy. Though it certainly can be somewhere in Atlantic City (Casino, Sand, Sea, Breeze) Where ever it is I am sure it will be fantastic and I hope I can win it.
Posted by Renee – February 29, 2008 11:52 PM
I think it's Missouri, too! The Arch is in St. Louis, live music in Branson as well as Silver Dollar City... I could be wrong, but what a great place that would be! Go HGTV!
Posted by Nicky R. – March 1, 2008 12:00 AM
The 2009 Dream Home appears to be either at Lake Las Vegas or near Lake Tahoe NV, from the clues given up to now. Hope the winner likes those hot, dry summer days!
Posted by KathyG – March 1, 2008 12:17 AM
Somewhere in the state of Washington. Like Seattle.
I THINK IDAHO. TAMMY
Posted by TAMMY – March 1, 2008 12:44 AM
Once again Scrabble words...but that's ok. On the pictures we got one more time the lighted candle chandalier, the room color was yellow and white and the trundle bed had a blue sheet. Noticed all the photos were taking during daylight? On the game board; sun, breeze, sand, rain. The next place is tropical. There was attention to the the texture on the picture frames, pillow and drapery...but I couldn't figure it out. I still think is Hawaii until the next clue shows me something else.
Posted by Nikaury – March 1, 2008 12:44 AM
Lake Erie Coastal Ohio, this is my guess..
Posted by Tony – March 1, 2008 1:53 AM
Well the board says aloha and vet. Must be Hawaii, somewhere around Pearl Harbor. That's my guess.
Posted by lsblount – March 1, 2008 2:13 AM
I had originally posted it would be in Kansas based on the words on the first scrabble board. With the new clues my guess has changed to Catawba Island on the shores of Lake (Erie) in Ohio.(Sand Road)is on the island. The county it's in, Ottawa, has a (wind) generating plant. The county has an (apple)festival in October. Ohio has the Pro Football Hall of Fame(punt) and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame(music). Needle Point is an (arch) on another island in the same county. You can(dive)there. The have a blessing of the boats each spring(prayer) (Tomato)juice is even the state drink. The area is a major tourist destination in the summer(sun and fun)No dream home has been built in the Midwest, so maybe. Oh and another thing (Ohio) Art, the people who make etch-a-sketch used to make metal globes, so maybe that is the globe clue. Can't wait to see who wins this year's house! Here is a link to where I think next year's house will be.
http://wikitravel.org/en/Catawba_Island
Posted by Marian Simmons – March 1, 2008 3:09 AM
ok, after today's clue my guess is either washington state (apples, lakes, windy, wheat, rain, beaches, mountains, beef, wool, the sea, etc......OR......Ohio state (lake, erie, OHA, tomatoes, beef, mountains, lifeboat, breeze, sand, coves, etc)
Posted by Anonymous – March 1, 2008 3:58 AM
OK......Ohio it is!!!! Ohio is the YOGURT capitol of the world!!! It's on LAKE ERIE. Where it's WINDY, SANDY, BREEZY, etc. Where the OHA is! Where football is big and they PUNT! There's BEEF, RAIN, WHEAT, MOUNTAINS, etc.
Posted by Sharon Ulissi – March 1, 2008 7:17 AM
Hawaii, the scrabble board says Aloha.
Posted by Julie – March 1, 2008 7:28 AM
Posted by Amanda – March 1, 2008 8:29 AM
Will they be letting the winner know that they won before March 16?
Posted by Tyler – March 1, 2008 8:29 AM
I am thinking on the shores of Lake Michigan? Perhaps upstate New York? Near Lake Erie? I am soooo excited to find out who is going to win!! What a beautiful home (in Florida) & a beaufiful location!!
Posted by Wendi – March 1, 2008 8:42 AM
Maybe it is Lifeboat Station At Marblehead, Ohio near Lake Erie.
Posted by B. Huggins – March 1, 2008 8:44 AM
Hawaii is not in the Mountain ZONE, but it does have mountains. One clue is ZEBRA. Hawaii has a ZEBRA plant. Another clue is ERIE. The USS Lake ERIE is stationed at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. The scrabble board says CASINO, though, and there are no casinos in Hawaii. That's the one word that throws me. The word GRIEF features prominently, and the bombing of Pearl Harbor certainly caused GRIEF. Honolulu has ALOHA stadium where football players PUNT. Kilauea has SILVER FALLS. Keep up the search.
Posted by Julie – March 1, 2008 8:58 AM
so many clues! they can match so many places. the first scrabble board had mountain zone which had me convinced it would be a state in mountain zone so i was thinking Arizona. There is a sunflower mine there. Mine and sunflower were words on both scrabble boards. Plus there is the word dry on new board. However, the globe seemed to be positioned for hawaii and NOW there is Aloha on the board and lifeboat which you might need when taking a boat to the islands. i also was confused by the word Arch which is pretty obviously a match for St Louis Missouri. Although it could be for california the home state for mcdonalds. plus california was the beginning of gold rush and they mentioned golden ticket. IM SO CONFUSED! i guess ill reexamine all the words and see if i can find 3 words on new board that match one of the states.
Posted by laurie – March 1, 2008 9:03 AM
I think it is Chicago Illinois or Some where is CA. both would be awesome.
Posted by Morgan W – March 1, 2008 9:13 AM
I'm in agreement with the next dream home being in Washington State. The clues, apple and rain, lead me to believe this location. However, Virginia would be a fine historic place to build one. Please come to our state sometime.
How about Puget Sounds, WA Apple Cove Point? "Sounds good to me!"
Posted by Susan – March 1, 2008 10:15 AM
Arizona or New Mexico. Mountain Time Zone...
OK. So on the scrabble board there needs to be at least 3 words to describe the location so here goes:
LAKE, ERIE, FALLS - Niagara Falls in New York - ZEBRA (mussels),LIFEBOAT and WISH may also go with this...
SAND, DRY, SUN - near the desert. I'll say New Mexico (my first guess was Sante Fe based on the other clues).
I thought maybe Idaho Falls, Idaho or Hawaii but I could only come up with two words that apply to each.
Posted by Amy – March 1, 2008 10:32 AM
Breeze, rain, sun, sand can be any state... then there's tomato or apple. Could be Washington, could be Alabama....we need more clues! Lol. Either way, I'm sure it's going to be gorgeous!!
Posted by MJ – March 1, 2008 10:32 AM
Lake Tahoe. I Can't wait to win that house!
Posted by Nancy H – March 1, 2008 10:40 AM
has anyone noticed that 2 L's are missing well they are there but covered up in the word FALLS and in the word Aloha? I just thought it was strange
Posted by Angel – March 1, 2008 10:54 AM
Could it be New York?
Posted by Milagros Lafosse – March 1, 2008 10:55 AM
I believe the next house is in hawaii. Why not!
Posted by diana – March 1, 2008 10:56 AM
I hope you yall will try one of the fine beaches on the North Carolina coast, they are absolutely beautiful.
Posted by howard hale – March 1, 2008 11:03 AM
Hmm, wonder if the address will include "Dry Sand Rd."?
Posted by Pat – March 1, 2008 11:06 AM
I think it will be in the Buffalo NY area. The clues that lead me to believe this are: Lake, Erie, Apple (New York), Falls (Niagara). Buffalo NY makes sense. There is great waterfront propery here.
Posted by john – March 1, 2008 11:12 AM
Right now, I'm just anxious to find out who the winner is. I hope it's me! Please God, let it be me! This is my dream if I win this for my family my mother and father are coming with me!!! and my puppy Peluche too.
We are praying and hoping we win because we want to leave this small apartment and go live to Florida were we always wanted to live!
Thats all!
Looks like the 2009 Dream House will be built somewhere in Montana. Big sky country and outstanding natural beauty.
***ALOHA!!***
Posted by Kris P. – March 1, 2008 11:25 AM
your #4 clue looks like you have chosen Lake Erie at the site for the 2009 Dream Home.
Posted by Pat – March 1, 2008 11:36 AM
Hello everyone. The HGTV dream home is gonna be in Las Vegas Nevada. In case you haven't noticed look at the three pics on the HGTV Dream Home home page they are pics of Nevada. Then there was the globe on the western side of the us then the buffalo and know apples that can all be found in Nevada. So there. It is gaonna be in Nevada.
Posted by Lizania – March 1, 2008 11:41 AM
It has to be Hawaii, on the Scrabble board, the word Aloha is the only word to use a blank!!!
Posted by Kathy – March 1, 2008 11:50 AM
I think I have it narrowed down to either California, Washington, or Wisconsin.
Posted by marie – March 1, 2008 12:02 PM
You've done it again. I can take aloha, sun, and sand and come up with Hawaii, or erie and lake, or any of the other words and .........
I need more clues! Right now I'm confused.
Posted by Uta – March 1, 2008 12:06 PM
... maybe Sun Valley, Idaho.
Posted by Bart – March 1, 2008 12:14 PM
I wonder what sun and dance are there for. Could it be that obvious?
Posted by Robin – March 1, 2008 12:40 PM
Erie? Falls? Apple? Got to be somewhere in NY (big apple) close to Lake Erie (Buffalo) and Niagara Falls!
Posted by JJP – March 1, 2008 12:46 PM
I think I know where the 2009 Dream Home will be according to the four clues. I believe that it will be in Silver Springs, Nevada.
Posted by Denise S. – March 1, 2008 12:49 PM
Hawaii anyone??
Posted by Bill H – March 1, 2008 12:49 PM
I think it sounds like the next Dream Home will be in Vermont or at least the New England area.
Posted by Tina Bouvier – March 1, 2008 12:54 PM
I really hope it is washington. Washington apples?.. rain...there is an ocean, cove, rain, lakes, etc. Could be Washington. I would love to live in Washington.
krista
Posted by krista fricks – March 1, 2008 1:03 PM
I think it's definitely in Hawaii Because some of the clues on the scramble board are: ALOHA,falls,cove,wisk,sand,cay,sun,and puntand the pro bowl is in Hawaii. And in the foyer is the famous hawaiin fish.
Posted by Sydney Scott – March 1, 2008 1:07 PM
I still think Tablerock Lake in Missouri.
Posted by Gretchen Klein – March 1, 2008 1:08 PM
I believe the next dream home will be in the Balantine area of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Posted by linda standish – March 1, 2008 1:17 PM
I think it's either Las Vegas: dry, fun and wish OR it's Hawaii or Southern California: breeze, sun and sand. My gut says Vegas though. Land there is MUCH less expensive than the other two, and it would definately be FUN!
Posted by Cheryl S. – March 1, 2008 1:22 PM
I thought I had it figured out, that it was in Nevada. But the new clues have me totally confused. I'm going to have to wait for clue 5 ROBECinFl
Posted by robert crawford – March 1, 2008 1:32 PM
After following all four clues: the 2009 HGTV Dream Home might be located in Globe, Arizona.
Posted by Jill Rogers – March 1, 2008 1:50 PM
I think that the 2009 Dream Home is in Hawaii. I am basing this on the fact that the USS Lake Erie has its homeport in Pearl Harbor and this is also a place with cry, vet, grief, lifeboat. Cane could be sugar cane. And the islands are the tops of volcanic eruptions from under the sea. I was able to match the most clues with this location!!
Posted by Jennifer Daniels – March 1, 2008 1:51 PM
Based on the clues, I'm thinking it must be in or near Park City, Utah. The Scrabble boards used terms such as Mountain Zone, breezy, sun, prayer, silver, and arch. Prayer could refer to Brigham Young; silver refers to the abandoned silver mines in the area; arch refers to the Arches Nat'l Park. There are plenty of 'dry' 'lake' beds in Utah, too. I'm thinking the home will be in a ski resort area, perhaps something like The Canyons development - check out Les Chateaux DuVal or Juniper Landing. Am I close?? It's fun to guess!
Posted by Jennifer A. in WI – March 1, 2008 2:06 PM
I hope the next Dream Home is in the middle of great big city.
Posted by cathy stapton – March 1, 2008 2:06 PM
The Nevada side of Lake Tahoe.
Posted by Deborah Goetz – March 1, 2008 2:09 PM
I'll bet the next dream home will be in missouri. I could see me in a new home in missouri- gambling, fishing and going shopping. I'm just a country girl but I bet ya!!!!!
Posted by alberta – March 1, 2008 2:13 PM
3 relevant words out of 25, that's useless. Probably about the same proportion on the first scrabble board. Might as well have no clue at all. That's why there are so many new comments today; nobody has any more idea than they did after the 2nd clue.
Posted by John – March 1, 2008 2:19 PM
There are trees outside in the photos which indicate either the west coast or Hawaii, Orange County, San Diego, Vegas. The other thing I noticed is the scrabble board had "rain" and "apple," which could indicate Washington. Keep the clues coming.
Posted by Kim – March 1, 2008 2:20 PM
The next HGTV Dream Home is located in Las Vegas.
Posted by Karen – March 1, 2008 2:38 PM
I think that the next Dream Home will be in Arizona somewhere,maybe Scottsdale.Not for sure, but I do think Arizona! I hope I win the Dream Home this year.I have been trying since 2001.Let's hope this is the year for me.It's not too far from B'ham.AL.
Posted by Jeannie – March 1, 2008 2:50 PM
ok, after today's clue my guess is either washington state (apples, lakes, windy, wheat, rain, beaches, mountains, beef, wool, the sea, etc......OR......Ohio state (lake, erie, OHA, tomatoes, beef, mountains, lifeboat, breeze, sand, coves, etc)
Posted by Anonymous – March 1, 2008 2:52 PM
Ok..the cluse from both scrabble boards point to a lake front home. Each of the remaining states where a dreamhome was not built could be it. The last scrabble board had only three words that idenified it and I assume this one does also. So since all states have beautiful lakes..it's like we were given no cluse at all...lol
Posted by james – March 1, 2008 3:03 PM
Manhattan, Kansas
Posted by Cheryl Batchelor – March 1, 2008 3:05 PM
Washington State...lots of apples and rain.
Posted by Linda – March 1, 2008 3:06 PM
it is without a doubt HAWAII!!
on the scrabble boards, it had words like:
sand
palm
sea
ALOHA
cane (sugar cane)
rain (it rains almost everyday in hawaii)
wind, (when your on the beach and in the mountains)
mountain.
i dont think there are any palm trees in missouri.
or any sand or sea in vegas.
HAWAII is where it is and i pray everyday that i can win it for my family, we so desperatley have been wanting to move there, and therefore we can give our house now, to my parents.
GOOD LUCK.
Posted by katie – March 1, 2008 3:10 PM
Looks like Hawaii to me...Aloha, Rain, Sand, Breeze....hmmmmmmmm
Posted by Stephanie – March 1, 2008 3:13 PM
I think the next Dream home will be in Hawaii.Yes there have been numerous homes on the water but all have been on the mainland so this would in fact be a first.
Posted by Kim – March 1, 2008 3:23 PM
PLEASE LET US KNOW HOW YOU'LL LET THE WINNER KNOW. ARE YOU GOING TO THEIR HOME UNANNOUNCED OR INVITE THEM TO JOIN YOU IN THE SHOW THAT ITS GOING TO BE AIRED ON THE 16TH .
HOPE ITS ME I'LL PREY EVERYDAY UNTIL THEN. IF NOT PLEASE BUILD A HOME IN THE WINE COUNTRY SOMEWHERE IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA OR SANTA BARBARA WOW... WOULDN'T THAT BE AWSOME
Posted by SHIREEN – March 1, 2008 3:34 PM
I've narrowed it down to 6 choices:
Washington
California
Utah
New Mexico
Arizona....or....
OHIO
I know Ohio doesn't seem to fit the western, mountain zone, thinking trend but those two words were listed separate, so it's an assumption that they go together.
What leads me to believe Ohio are the clues LAKE, ERIE, and YOGURT. Lots of other clues fit as well, but Ohio is the Yogurt capitol of the world. (But then..... Seattle Washington is known for it's Frozen Yogurt, is windy, has apples, rain, mts., etc)
Are you as obsessed as I am?
Either way, if it does happen to be in California or Washington, I will trade the 2009 winner this years home in Florida, which I'll be picking up shortly after March 16th!!!!!
Posted by Jennifer – March 1, 2008 3:45 PM
Rain - Apple - Cove
Must be Washington!
Awesome!
Posted by Tina – March 1, 2008 4:05 PM
My guess is southwest New York state.
Posted by Cheryl – March 1, 2008 4:08 PM
Ok..the cluse from both scrabble boards point to a lake front home. Each of the remaining states where a dreamhome was not built could be it. Posted by james – March 1, 2008 4:10 PM
Although I do not believe it will be Globe, AZ...I do think Lake Roosevelt or Apache Lake in AZ are strong possibilities. I still think Nevada and Utah are also in the running.
Posted by Kelly – March 1, 2008 4:45 PM
I think it's Lake Erie, Ottowa County, OHIO.
Posted by Kai – March 1, 2008 4:51 PM
I have narrowed it down to these states: MT, ID, UT and NM. Right now I am really leaning towards UT though. However, I have no idea where in UT. Hopefully next years home location won't matter to me because I will win this year's home. I really want this one by the beach.
Posted by Yolanda – March 1, 2008 4:55 PM
I'm thinking Washington state or Michigan.
Posted by Cindy C. – March 1, 2008 4:58 PM
I have changed my mind. After some research into Montana's agriculture I am positive it is going to be there although some of clues still seem to be a little off.
Posted by Yolanda – March 1, 2008 5:01 PM
I think the HGTV Dream Home is going to Hawaii. On the last scrabble board it says aloha with the L piece turned around, and it also mentioned a lifeboat. On another scrabble board it says HGTV, mountain range which would resemble the volcanos,sea,and sand.
Posted by Jeri – March 1, 2008 5:16 PM
Las Vegas in the new Palms Place Tower!
Posted by J.R. – March 1, 2008 5:23 PM
This is too fun! I'm going with Lake Havasu (city), AZ.
Vegas is a hop away, there's a state park called Cattail Cove. There's a lake, sand, it's dry, palms, in the mountain zone, it's windy.
It might not fit all the clues - but are all the clues really good clues?? Can't wait to see where it is!
Posted by Brenn – March 1, 2008 5:28 PM
I think that HGTV Dream Home is going to Hawaii. First in alot of the slides in the slideshow contains tons of shells and corals. Also hanging on the walls are pictures of fish or parts of undersea creatures. A little bit of bamboo furniture as well. In the scrabble boards they mentioned these phrases... dive as in scuba divers, mountain zones as in volcanos, sea, casinos as in having fun or cruises, palm as in palm trees, coves as in underwater, Aloha which means hello in Hawaii,lifeboat as in lifeguards, dance as in hula dancing, and it mentioned HGTV.
Posted by Shelby – March 1, 2008 5:39 PM
Perhaps Hawaii?
Posted by Nora A – March 1, 2008 5:45 PM
It seems like it will be New York-- Lake Erie borders NY, HGTV has offices in NY, apples are NY's state fruit, and the sun, a globe, and a mountain are pictured on the State flag. I "Love" NY is the state song.
Posted by Doreen – March 1, 2008 5:52 PM
How about Lake Tahoe, NV?
Posted by Erik H – March 1, 2008 5:57 PM
Carson City Nevada or Silver City New Mexico, but I am really hoping for something in Washington state ...
Posted by Linda Cross – March 1, 2008 5:58 PM
Sounds like the Puget Sound area to me. Seattle is such a beautiful place to live. Lots of water, mountains, friendly people, some (tribal)casinos, very green, environmentally friendly, great views.....Hope I'm right.
Posted by Barbara H – March 1, 2008 6:04 PM
I am still thinking it is going to be Utah
1. Has Bridal veil falls
2. There is a COVE UTAH
3. Has Apple orchards
Posted by Lynda – March 1, 2008 6:15 PM
All clues point to Utah...a Zebra farm in central Utah; a candy factory called Peppermint Place; palms in southwest Utah; scuba diving; the 7th best BBQ in nation(Q4U Restaurant);Sundance Festival; Kennecott Copper mine; lifeboat-rafting on the Colorado river. Need I go on? My best spots are St. George (near Hurricane (breeze), Moab or near Park City-Deer Valley.
Posted by June LaVernway – March 1, 2008 6:16 PM
After another review of the Scrabble board in the Sitting Area, I am back on track for UTAH. But I don't think it's Orem, I have another area in mind, but need more clues. fcole says we are getting another hint on Tue. Hope it's not another Scrabble board. Really hard for these old eyes to see, but I do my best. Two words on the last SB....Yes, this is FUN, and I'm sure we will all LOVE the Dream Home 2009.
Although the winner of the DH08 has been chosen, we won't know who that lucky person is until March 16th. So meanwhile, pleasant dreams and thanks again HGTV. LOVE your programs, they are FUN.
Posted by Katydid – March 1, 2008 6:17 PM
all clues point to california if you think about it. every single one, not just most clues like the other states. every single word on first scrabble and three plus words on the second fits. plus look at the pics. on dream home central above where are we going in 2009?. california's next to nevada, next to washington, ands got music. nothing else fits! plus the 2nd clue where it says look for the golden ticket, CA is gold on the globe and is also the gloden state. how much clearer can u get? i almost positive i'm right this time, but keep the clues coming so i can confirm my answer.
Posted by emily – March 1, 2008 6:24 PM
Could it be Ohio Lake Erie Lakefront property? Lotta bang for the buck there I think. Or New York Lake Erie Lakefront?...........
I am definitely leaning toward Arizona.
It is in the mountain zone, has a ZEBRA tailed lizard, the Vultee ARCH, the SUNFLOWER MINE.
But that's just my guess so far. It is fun trying to figure it out. Happy searching everyone.
It is in HAWAII
heres why:
Clue 2- Hawaii is right near the middle of that globe
Clue 3- palm, sea, dive
Clue 4- rain, sand, aloha, sun
Posted by Kevin – March 1, 2008 7:55 PM
I was thinking North Dakota because of some of the words on the first scrabble board, but with the new clue I'm looking across the country at New York, maybe somewhere in the mountains. Boy, you can keep us thinking! LOL
At first I thought it was in Kansas (Mount Sunflower, Kansas; and sunflower is Kansas state flower) Now though it looks like Hawaii with the 2nd scrabble board words in use ( I see 7-9 possible words as clues for Hawaii)
Posted by Mickey – March 1, 2008 8:33 PM
I am stumped! Just when I think I'm leaning towards one state they through in these other clues. I'm from WA., of course I think it would be great to have the next Dream Home built here. If I'm not the lucky one selected to win the Florida home then maybe that means there are better things coming for me in the future. Like...a Dream Home in Washington State! My husband wouldn't have to find a new job and we could stay close to our family. With that said, i wish EVERYONE the best of luck and if the home cant go to me then I hope it will go to someone that really needs it. I would like to see a nice family live there.
Posted by Judi B. – March 1, 2008 8:42 PM
I am hoping that it will be in the warm desert in or near Palm Springs, California. What a beautiful place that has eveything to offer. Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra and the boys would be proud to see such a Dream Home.
I can't wait!
Ciao
Posted by Julie – March 1, 2008 8:43 PM
I think they are coming to Vermilion On The Lake, Vermilion, Ohio. Clues are "lake" & "erie" for LAKE ERIE where we are located, "fun" because we offer all year round FUN.
That's great. You will also find a lot of willing hard workers to complete the task sooner.
Posted by Darryl Wagner – March 1, 2008 8:44 PM
Washington State gets my vote!
Posted by Anne – March 1, 2008 8:53 PM
I am thinking that MAYBE, it might be Aruba or the Bahamas... After reading the scrabble board and picking up certain words, I've decided its a warm place, water, beach, palms, windy, etc. Whereever it is, I'm sure it will once again be beautiful.
dear hgtv I put the hgtv deram home 2009 in sarasota FL
Posted by wayne luther – March 1, 2008 11:25 PM
I believe think it could be one of the following. Utah because it has Great Salt Lake (Erie is a "great lake"), apples is one of their crops they grow, has alot of sand, aches, mountins.. Nebraska because apples is one of there crops. the Ox is on there State quaters. has the largest sand dunes in North America, OMA is a airport in Nebraska. sunflowers are one of there crops. East Nebraska is the wet side and the west side is dryer. Plus the west have of this State is in the mountain time zone. Ohio or Michigan could be in the running because Lake Erie touches both states. The rare zebra mussel lives only in Lake Erie. (in the states). My favoite is Arizona, they have a school named Erie Elemntry. they have a heavy but breif rainy season. The rest of the time they are very dry. Gets very hot during day and very cold at night time. It would be wild going river rafting the Colorado river in the Grand Canyon. And there are waterfalls in Grand Canyon.
The Dream Home will be in South Carolina in a beleive it was a Ryland Home community, I saw the billboards for it on my way from Charleston to Hilton Head Island.
Posted by myrna seibel – March 2, 2008 12:15 AM
I think the next dream home will be built in Hawaii. Breeze, sand, sun, rain, fun are just some of the clues, but I am also looking at the preview pics, has lots of seashells, beach looking decor, the yellow paint on the wall, the lush greenery outside the windows all point out somewhere tropical. I think it will be Hawaii.
Posted by Annette – March 2, 2008 12:15 AM
I saw billboards on my way from Charleston S.C.to Hilton Head Is. South Carolinia that said they were having the 2009 hgtv dream house here in South Carolina, I think it said a Ryland Home Commnity. I went by it to fast. But I know it's here in South Carolina near Beaufort S.C.
Ok, now I think it's going to be in Hawaii. More specifically Kauai near Silver Falls?
Posted by Jil – March 2, 2008 12:38 AM
Check this out all who have guessed Hawaii ....it can't be Hawaii for the simple fact that to own property in Hawaii you have to be atleast half Hawaiian!! Sorry for the bad news ...
Posted by melissa sones – March 2, 2008 1:07 AM
New Mexico of course
Posted by Lori – March 2, 2008 1:21 AM
Lots of fun guesses...clearly people really mulling it over. Please pay more attention to some of the details, or you'll be disappointed:
1) it has to be in the 50 United States (hence, NOT Arruba, etc.).
2) It is in a state that it has NEVER BEEN BEFORE (hence, NOT Austin, TX)
Being familiar with different states b/c of travel and places I've lived, it's easy to make certain guesses based on what I know. I think the clues are just mixed enough to throw you off. I also think the pictures of Vegas are too obvious for that to be the actual location.
I'm liking the guesses for HI, CA, WA, and MO the most. Personally I wouldn't want to live in MO (I have family there; it's not my kinda place), but it might be a good choice economically for the winner. CA and HI are quite expensive, but WA much more affordable and a good job market in Seattle. No income tax, and no sales tax across the border in OR. I think prop. values are holding well in WA, so if you had to sell, it would probably still be a good market. I think someone guessed MI - that would be a horrible choice right now. Major job losses in that state - people can't give homes away.
It will be interesting to see the next clues. Good luck and Congrats to the 2008 winner!
Hardeville, SC near Hilton Head Island. Located on a new golf course/development called Traditions. Big story around here.
After looking at the clues so far, it sure looks like the next Dream Home will be in Washington State.
Wind, Sun, Rain, Apples, Dive....
Not sure yet where in Washington it will be, But that would be one I would like to win!
PARK CITY, UTAH... That's my guess. I have found several items from the scrabble boards that go with this city & State. I hope I am right or do I...I don't ski!
How did I do fcole?
Posted by Diane Fender – March 2, 2008 2:38 AM
I think it's going to be in New Orleans
Michigan.....Palm(as in Shape), Breeze, Windy lake, sand, dive, lifeboat, falls, sun, rain. Sunflower, Wool, Beef, Wheat, Apples(#3), Silver(mined), Cane(sugar produced), Music(motown), Punt...duh..Michigan football. As for Love, wish and prayer...the state could use them all.
After seeing the clues on the scrabble board, I did some more investigation into the term "Golden Ticket". There is a prestigious art gallery on the island of Maui named "The Golden Ticket". Put that together with sand, breeze, rain........it has to be Hawaii!
Posted by Candace Price – March 2, 2008 7:03 AM
In Ohio, there is Put-in-Bay or Kelley's Island.
In Pa, there is Erie, right on the lake.
In New York, there is the Buffalo area close to Niagra Falls. Don't forget the possibility of being along the Erie Canal. Rochester, Syracuse. There are mountains and waterfalls in Western New York, in the vicinity of the Erie Canal. Will clue number 5 get us closer?
Posted by Joyce – March 2, 2008 7:26 AM
I say Hawaii. Scrabble boardS have a bunch of clues pointing in that direction. Sun, Windy, Rain, Sand, Love, Lifeboat. The earlier clue of the Golden Ticket could also be a reference to Willy Wonka...Oompa Loompa...Loompaland...which is supposedly a small island in the Pacific Ocean??? Hmmmm...hope it's HAWAII!
Posted by L – March 2, 2008 7:38 AM
I really think it has to be on Lake Erie, and that makes it either Ohio ("PUNT" from the football hall of fame in Canton, OH,) Pennsylvania (because there is an ERIE, PA,) or New York (it borders LAKE ERIE upstate) NYC is the big APPLE, DANCE is on Broadway, and so, my guess, so far is New York.
The Dream house 2009 will be in Beaufor t S.C. in the Traditions Neighboorhood. I saw a bill billboard on way to Hilton Head Island. I thought it was Ryland Home but my husband said Traditions. Myrna Seibel
I was thinking Montana but apples threw me off. Mountain zone , dry lake, wheat leads me to Utah where the Bonneville Salt Flats are, which is a dry lake. They produce wheat. I also thought Washington State but it is not in the mountain time zone. Keep the clues coming.
I was hoping the 2009 Dream House might be on the Georgia Coast. There are some awsome areas and I love the ocean, plus it would be closer to me..Should I win..LOL
Although I would love to see a Great Lakes home giveaway (because I live there), I believe the location will be Hawaii.
Aloha!
Yep, I'm guessing Lake Tahoe.
Please be hawaii, washington, or nevada....all three would bring me closer to my family if I won. Thank you for this wonderful contest HGTV, it always gives me hope that maybe, just maybe I will be able to move closer to my family.
From the clues given, my best guess is Green Mountain Falls, Colorado.
Posted by Lily Ernst – March 2, 2008 9:39 AM
The answer is GLOBE, Arizona, where there is a nearby CASINO. Where the ZEBRA plant thrives. It is in the MOUNTAIN ZONE. BUT......THE BIGGEST CLUE IS THAT GLOBE GOT ITS NAME BECAUSE OF A LARGE SILVER GLOBE-SPAPED NUGGET THAT WAS DISCOVERED THERE. Each year they have ALOHA Fest.
