HGTV Dream Home

Clue #3: Fun and Games in the Dining Area

Posted by fcole – February 26, 2008 4:14 PM

We've added an image to the slide show of the dining area in HGTV's Dream Home in the Florida Keys. Look for the Dream Home Scavenger Hunt Icon icon and you'll know you've come to the right spot.

And to recap the clues so far, remember that the next home is going to a state where we've never built an HGTV Dream Home. Go to the Dream Homes Past section of Dream Home Central for locations of all the previous homes. And we also slipped a clue into entry foyer slide show last week. Just look for the Dream Home Scavenger Hunt Icon icon on the picture.

It's now only 19 days until we announce the grand prize winner of this year's HGTV Dream Home in the Florida Keys. Be sure to watch the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway 2008 on Sunday, March 16, at 9pm ET/6pm PT when we announce the winner of the home in the Florida Keys on live television! We're also giving away a special prize during the show to one lucky home viewer: a Florida Keys getaway for two, including airfare to Miami, a rental car and three nights at the Cheeca Lodge and Spa in Islamorada. Plus, the winner receives $5,000 worth of Lumber Liquidators flooring and a Doggy Dream Home from Iams.

Be sure to check back this Friday for another clue to the location of HGTV Dream Home 2009!

This is fun! Hawaii? Idaho? Nevada?

Posted by RB – February 26, 2008 4:41 PM

Silver City, Nevada or Virginia City, NV

Scrabble -- again!

Posted by adele – February 26, 2008 4:50 PM

I think I nailed it. The second clue is a Replogle Globe, which is manufactured and produced in Chicago, Illinois. The third clue of the scrabble board words confirms my thought with the second clue. It's the windy city of Chicago, Illinois.-Judy Z

Posted by Judy Z – February 26, 2008 4:52 PM

Its definitely Globe, AZ. Scrabble shows Casino, which it has and Silver which is still a major part of their economy. GO ARIZONA!!!!

Posted by James – February 26, 2008 4:53 PM

I think Las Vigas!

Posted by Sally PBG,FL – February 26, 2008 4:54 PM

I BELIEVE THE NEW LOCATION WILL BE IN HAWAII.

Posted by ACHIA S. BAINS – February 26, 2008 4:54 PM

Las Vegas, NV

Posted by Molly Lemire – February 26, 2008 5:12 PM

Wow! A plethora of clues on a scrabble board. Sunflower, beef , bbq, wheat, and arch all point to Kansas or Missouri. Then there is Mountain and Zone - hmmm, maybe Arizona or New Mexico? Silver, windy, casino and Ada all could be Michigan's west coast... I don't think this is going to help me narrow this down...

Posted by Amy – February 26, 2008 5:12 PM

Wow. Sunflower Mesa in Arizona (silver)? Or Mt. Sunflower in Kansas (beef)?

Posted by Gregory Parsons – February 26, 2008 5:12 PM

Not a very good place to send a home viewer for a Florida getaway. I mean, that person just found out that they didn't win the Dream Home in Islamorada and then that's where you send them! You should have given the getaway location a little more thought. But of course that's just one persons opinion.

Going to Kansas - the sunflower state

Posted by Donna – February 26, 2008 5:21 PM

maybe San Francisco California it has been known to be the windy city, and California is a golden state refering to the golden ticket in clue 2

Posted by Janice – February 26, 2008 5:28 PM

Im going with Sun Valley Idaho!!

Posted by Ann STL Mo – February 26, 2008 5:34 PM

It seems we are all on the same page. I originally thought California and still do, but Kansas and Arizona were my next two choices after reading the scrabble board.
But still I'm stumped!

Posted by Anthony LoGerfo – February 26, 2008 5:45 PM

I believe the next clue was "Mountain Zone" on the scrabble board. I think it's Montana.

Posted by Lori – February 26, 2008 5:47 PM

On the left side of the board are 2 words hinting at the time zone - mountain!

Posted by Beverly – February 26, 2008 5:57 PM

Definitly chicago, (i think)

Posted by Alec Haase – February 26, 2008 6:03 PM

montana

Posted by Bryan Miller – February 26, 2008 6:04 PM

Sounds like Arizona to me!

Posted by Kim – February 26, 2008 6:05 PM

I wonder how many of those words on the Scrabble Board are real clues. Should we put mountain and sea together? Or windy and beef, or silver and casino, or music and prayer, or sunflower and wheat, or ????. None of those words seem to support my guess of CA, but NM might still be in the running. Hawaii is out, but Alaska takes its place. I'm still not sure about the "globe" but will wait for someone much smarter than me to make the correct guess. Can't wait for Friday and another clue (which will probably make no sense to me). Still adore HGTV and all you Dreamers. Keep the faith and love.

Posted by Katydid – February 26, 2008 6:21 PM

I think it is Nevada!!!

Posted by Bob – February 26, 2008 6:22 PM

I THINK THE LOCATION IS RIODOSO, NEW MEXICO

Posted by CARMEN ROSALEZ – February 26, 2008 6:27 PM

Salt Lake City, UT area; lots of sunflower, wheat, beef, mountain, arches, salt(sea)

Posted by Bella – February 26, 2008 6:28 PM

Okay, this is tricky, but I'm going to say Between Utah, Nevada, and Arizona. Utah because of the prayer, arches, sunflowers, Wheat.
Nevada because of the casino, windy, palm (s) (hotel), mountains and so on.
Arizona because of Cane (McCain?) palm, mountain, silver, beef, sunflower?. Ha Ha I'm probly way off. This is fun though.

Posted by Darbi – February 26, 2008 6:32 PM

I BELIEVE LOCATION IS RIODOSO, NEW MEXICO

Posted by CARMEN – February 26, 2008 6:32 PM

I THINK IT MIGHT BE FANCY GAP VA THE LAND IS SO CLEAN AND QUITE AND PEACEFUL..

Posted by corby tew – February 26, 2008 6:35 PM

It will be in Hawaii..read the scrabble clue...cane, coral, sugar etc..

Posted by sonya – February 26, 2008 6:46 PM

i think it's Nebraska. in the swcond clue, Nebraska's name was shaded darker than all the others. in this clue, the 2 last letters(which are on the RIGHT side of the board) in CANE, is NE. which is the abbreviation for Nebraska.

Posted by Mandy – February 26, 2008 6:48 PM

How about Sedona, Arizona

Posted by Sue Elliott – February 26, 2008 6:48 PM

I think the next dream house will be built in Wallas County,Kansas. It's the Sunflower State. They grow alot of wheat there, and raise alot of cattle(beef). Wallas is one of four counties in the mountain zone. Kansas City is famous for their barbecue restaurants. We know it's windy there, remember Wizard of Oz. They have casino's too. I haven't tied all the words on that scrabble board to Kansas but I bet you could if you tried hard enough.

Posted by Marian – February 26, 2008 6:49 PM

hays kansas

Posted by bayport bob – February 26, 2008 7:00 PM

I think windy, sunflower, beef, Kansas would be my guess!!!

Posted by Dana – February 26, 2008 7:01 PM

Nevada

Posted by Anonymous – February 26, 2008 7:07 PM

Oh dear, a lot of words on the Scrabble board bring thoughts of Oklahoma, and please oh please do not build a home in Oklahoma HGTV! It may be a great state to some, but to have a dream home in would be a waste!

Posted by ANDY – February 26, 2008 7:13 PM

I also thought of the obvious- Texas-beef,ocean Kansas-wheat, sunflowers, Nevada-silver, mountains, etc., but I think I'm going with Palm Springs, CA.

Posted by Blaise Nicholsky – February 26, 2008 7:15 PM

i think it will be flagstaff arizona or sedona arizona!!! if it is --- just give it to me now!! love those cities!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by erin – February 26, 2008 7:18 PM

Mountain Zone & Arch?? How about Moab, Utah!

Posted by Anne – February 26, 2008 7:18 PM

I'm pulling for chicago, but anywhere would be great.

Posted by Quin – February 26, 2008 7:23 PM

St. Louis, MO

Posted by Ronald Mitchell – February 26, 2008 7:33 PM

Nevada it is.

it is not riodoso, nm. that is in the central time zone (and a very unknown part of the country that is still cheap so keep it down!!!)

Question is where in nevada.

I would be ecstatic if it was idaho, but i am pretty sure it is nevada.

Posted by m stewart – February 26, 2008 7:40 PM

Could also be St george, utah with the arch clue (bryce canyon & arches nat'l parks). close enough to vegas to gamble, and it is windy, the mormons spend quite a bit of time in church praying, plenty of cattle ranches, sunflowers etc.

Posted by m stewart – February 26, 2008 7:44 PM

Well this clue changed my original answer of CA. I'm guessing its Las Vegas with the words: Casino, Silver, Windy? Thats probably to easy of a guess though. I really don't know now. Who wants to live in Vegas anyway? I still think its CA! FINAL ANSWER!

Posted by Jess Hinkle – February 26, 2008 7:51 PM

Okay, what about this African proverb -- might it be relevant?
"The end of an ox is beef, and the end of a lie is grief."

Posted by R – February 26, 2008 7:54 PM

Ok, I still think its Globe, AZ. Casino, Silver, Beef! Now... Prayer??? Well that might mean I don't have one in guessing where the 2009 dream home might be!! It's still fun!!

Can't wait til next clue!!

Keep blogging and keep guessing!
Patty from Virginia

Posted by Patty – February 26, 2008 7:58 PM

Posted by Sharon – February 26, 2008 8:13 PM

It's Kansas, the sunflower state...Kansas is an Indian word meaning south wind and the two biggest crops are wheat and beef.

Posted by alrac – February 26, 2008 8:18 PM

I think Alaska will be the dream home of 2009

Posted by mary hammond – February 26, 2008 8:25 PM

With the clue of wheat the state has to be that of Oklahoma.

Posted by Cheryl McDowell – February 26, 2008 8:31 PM

Posted by Karen – February 26, 2008 8:41 PM

I think the clues are mountain and western United States. I'm thinking somewhere near the Sehara Mountains or something?????

Posted by Ebay – February 26, 2008 8:44 PM

I still beleive it's in Pennsylvania, near Hershey. With all the clues on the scrabble board, bloggers will be all over the mountain time zone states. Remember, there is probably only one clue on the board that means anything. Fcole did this last year with the scrabble board and it drove most of the bloggers CRAZY. Good luck to all od you.

Although I've changed my mind several times already maybe, because I was fortunate effort to marry a soldier (very proud) & moved around this country a few times. By the way, I love this country & love our Military.

So, my new guess would be my 'home' state:
Missouri. Show me the 'show me state'. I agree with several others, the Ozarks Mountains of MO...wait a beautiful location for HGTV's next DH.

Thx...love,
Tammy K.

P.S. I really enjoy this process.

Posted by Tammy K – February 26, 2008 8:52 PM

Kansas perhaps?? Wiki it...clues tend to lean towards this state.

Posted by Peggy F. – February 26, 2008 8:59 PM

States in Mountain, Zone - WY, ID, MT, AZ, NM, CO, UT. CO had a prior dream home, so we can eliminate it. Then there's Palm, Windy, Music, Wool, Beef, Wheat, Sea, Cane, Dear, BBQ, Knot, prayer. I think Mountain Zone is the clue and I still think it's going to be AZ.

Posted by Louee – February 26, 2008 9:04 PM

OMG - it has got got be Sedona Arizona - one of the most spectacular places ever !!!

Posted by Cathy – February 26, 2008 9:09 PM

I stronly believe that the next dream house will be in NEWORLEANS.
Sincerely
Tony

Posted by Tony Singh – February 26, 2008 9:16 PM

Mountain zone - either Montana or Arizona. I will say Arizona and it will be a solar powered home. It will be very 'green' and have bamboo or tile floors. The yard will have a Xeriscape design and the toilets will flush with rain water off the roof. In any case, I hope it is a practical home that could be converted into a bed and breakfast so that any middle class person could keep it.

Posted by taliesin_north – February 26, 2008 9:26 PM

well, there is a Good Grief, Idaho and an Ada county in Idaho. Idaho is in the mountain time zone and has a lot of sheep (wool). probably cattle too. Do they have sunflowers? wheat? silver? Casino's? Don't think there is a sea to dive in though. Oh well these clues certainly are obscure, lol. and the globe?? all that tells us (as far as i can tell) is that it's in north america (maybe).

Posted by karen – February 26, 2008 9:29 PM

Utah perhaps?

Posted by Cindy – February 26, 2008 9:29 PM

The words on the scrabble board still suggest Globe, Arizona. It's in the mountain time zone. Sunflower is a mining town nearby. Beef BBQ-- YUM. Silver jewelry was a pretty hot commodity the last time I visited. Wool and wheat are also produced in Arizona. There is a casino about 5 miles away from Globe. There are many music venues in the Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa area.

Posted by Ali – February 26, 2008 9:30 PM

South Padre Island, TX

Posted by Marion Kittredge – February 26, 2008 9:33 PM

Northern California, possibly the Santa Cruz County area?

Posted by KSH – February 26, 2008 9:35 PM

I think it's Montana! Big wheat growers, lots of beef, in the mountain time zone, it's pretty windy, the "treasure state" could signify silver and the casino; lots of clues...lol. That's what I want to see, a nice big Montana Lodge on a great ranch close to Yellowstone! We'll find out soon enough!

Posted by Sarah – February 26, 2008 9:42 PM

Utah?

Posted by GK – February 26, 2008 9:45 PM

No doubts here... Arizona is the location of the 2009 Dream Home giveaway! And, I'll venture a wild guess to say that Alaska will be the home of the 2010 Dream Home giveaway.

Posted by Karen – February 26, 2008 10:14 PM

A clue that I'm getting from the scrabble board is Mountain Time Zone...the following states or areas are part of the Mountain Time Zone:

Arizona - always on MST - no daylight saving time except in the Navajo Nation;

New Mexico; Wyoming; Utah; Colorado; Montana;

Idaho (except northern panhandle);

Eastern Oregon/Malheur County;

The southwestern quadrant of North Dakota;

The western half of South Dakota;

The western third of Nebraska;

The two westernmost counties in Texas (Hudspeth, El Paso)and a portion of Culberson County;

Four counties in Kansas (Greeley, Hamilton, Sherman, and Wallace);

The Nevada towns of West Wendover and Jackpot;

The city of Kenton, Oklahoma;

Hope this helps to narrow things down....I'm going to say somewhere in New Mexico.

Posted by Becky – February 26, 2008 10:14 PM

Sorry, already been in Tyler, TX; New guess is: Grand Isle, Louisiana

Posted by Marion Kittredge – February 26, 2008 10:25 PM

Hawaii! Diver, dive, sunflower(a popular local song) music, mountain (Mauna Kea, observatories)
The Big Island is very windy! And one of the biggest cattle ranches (Parker Ranch)

Posted by t – February 26, 2008 10:26 PM

I think it's Hawaii, but after reading all the comments, I'm thoroughly confused! Can't wait for more clues!!!

Posted by Kim – February 26, 2008 10:26 PM

You are all wrong! It is definitely St. Louis, Mo!!!

Posted by BARBARA RETTIG – February 26, 2008 10:30 PM

I think it will be near Santa Cruz, California.

Posted by Sarah – February 26, 2008 10:33 PM

LOOKING AT SCRABBLE BOARD, THE WORDS /NO NOT/
RUN THROUGH SOME WORDS. THINK MAYBE THAT IS CLUES TO WHERE DREAM HOME WILL BE?

Posted by Judy Manley – February 26, 2008 10:34 PM

Well, the clues: palm, dive, mountain, windy, sea, cane (like sugar cane), and palm would lead me to believe Hawaii. Also, beef would be another clue to that, as Hawaii is pretty big on cattle... However, some of the other clues are throwing me off, like sunflower, wheat and casino. I don't know if some of the words are there are meant to trick us, or if we're just supposed to ignore some of them? LOL... Hmmm...

Posted by Jessica – February 26, 2008 10:36 PM

I'm guessing somewhere in the St. Louis area. This would cover the arch, casinos, etc. and it's in the correct zone, I think!

Posted by Pam Burnell – February 26, 2008 10:40 PM

sounds like kansas city, MO to me. casinos, music, sunflowers, wheat, and they have never built there before.

Posted by sharon – February 26, 2008 10:40 PM

Many clues. Brillant way
to drop wandering clues all over!
Problems tho, ~
Scrabble does not have 3 Bs.
BBQ is not a legal Scraboo word.
Not splitting hairs here! The words
are quite significant road signs
to the next HGTV Dream Home location.
Even with those ringers thrown in.
Besides ~ what FUN !
Globe, AZ still looking good.
Tho . ... . . . .

I think it's Arizona around Tucson

Posted by Russell – February 26, 2008 10:46 PM

From the clues I will say it is Reno, NV

Posted by Lenora Sasser – February 26, 2008 10:48 PM

It's Kansas. Dodge City is the windiest city in the country.

Posted by Belinda – February 26, 2008 10:49 PM

Arizona. Globe Arizona and Sunflower Arizona are only 1 hour 40 minutes apart. Arizona is in the Mountain Time Zone. Read the Scrabble board and remember the globe

Posted by Renea – February 26, 2008 10:53 PM

Where oh where are you going to build that next dream home HGTV? I am sitting here like a lunatic with a piece of paper in front of me full of states and gibbersish resembling clues,
and then those clues lead to other clues, and so forth and so forth. What's even more crazy is the fact that I can make total sense of this nonsense. Now, based on my "research", I have surrendered my early and hasty guess that it was, without a doubt, Maui. However, I don't recall Maui having any casino connections, nor are they known for their BBQ. (Whole pig in a firepit does not count.) I think it's a difficult and undecided toss between Kansas (Sunflower state, wheat) and Chicago(Windy state, wheat), and Nevada (Casinos, The Palms, Music, Knot (?)(getting hitched). But I'm still crossing my fingers on Maui! (Arches-rainbows, palm trees, cane- sugar cane fields, mountain-upcountry, prayer-buddhist temples, beef-kobe beef upcountry, windy-summit of volcano.) Wishful thinking doesn't hurt!

This is my back yard in Colorado. I am not sure if it is Denver or Colorado Springs where you will build, but that is Garden of the Gods in the middle picture

Posted by Pam – February 27, 2008 12:18 AM

Ok, I think it is either St. Louis or Chicago. Judy Z researched the globe in the #2 clue and the globe was designed in Chicago which is windy and also the arch fits with the first McDonald's in Des Plaines a suburb of Chicago. The crops and beef would be that of Illinois. Could be St. Louis with the arch and the rest crops, bbq, beef, windy, casinos, etc. There is a neat area called Lake St. Louis that looks like could have possibilities. If you read the clues on the left side it says KNOT mountain time zone so I think that rules out the west. Anyway, can't wait for Friday to see how off I am. Sure is fun to guess though!

Posted by vj – February 27, 2008 12:30 AM

I am still sticking with Globe, Arizona. It is located in the mountain zone. There are palm trees. Silver was found there. The newspaper there is called the "Arizona Silver Belt." Globe is also the mid-point between Apache Junction and Lordsburg (for the word "prayer" on the board). I think that it would be a beautiful place for a home. Looking forward to the next clues!!!

All of the scrabble board words revolve around the state of Utah. More specifically Bryce Canyon area: arch=Arches National Park; windy/sunflowers=canyons and deserts;casino=nearby LV,NV; Music=Morman Tabernacle Choir in Salt Lake City or Sundance Festival in Park City; ; Sea=Great Salt Lake maybe or Capitol Reef?; Mountain&zone= Time Zone; prayer, yogurt,ox,beef, etc=healthy, religious and agricultural Utah. Let's see if the next clue lines up.

Posted by Helen Caldwell – February 27, 2008 1:11 AM

Wow, what a wild series of clues on that Scrabble Board. I did a little research into the origin of Scrabble and some of the companies that have owned the rights to Scrabble over the years, this didn't help. I was pretty convinced after Clue #2, it was Arizona (with Nevada running a strong second) and while I'm not convinced yet that it's not either of those two states, I will have to say, the number of clues that point to Kansas on the Scrabble Board are pretty high. Mount Sunflower is indeed our highest point of elevation, we do have plenty of wind--Dodge City, Kansas has the highest average wind speed of any city in the US, sorry Chicago. While you can't actually see the mountains from Kansas they are to the west which would narrow the focus to our area, we also have many rock formations throughout our state. We are very well know as being the wheat state and beef is very high up on our ladder as well in terms of importance. Kansas was once a sea as many fossils from earlier times can attest, the most photograped fossil in the world (supposedly) is of a fish-inside-a-fish, found in what was once an ocean in western Kansas. We have sheep, so wool would be a possibility as well. There are many excellent BBQ places including Hog Wild in Wichita, they have provided BBQ on more than one occasion for episodes of Survivor, throughout the world. BBQ is King in Kansas City. Jazz is also King in Kansas City--so music fits in very well. Kansas isn't in the Bible Belt, but prayer is strong in Kansas. Recently the legislature passed gaming law changes in Kansas which will allow for casinos, so many silver dollars will be flying through the machines. There is a fan "zone" at the Kansas Speedway. Some of these things, including the arch, could easily point to Missouri as well--Branson would certainly come to mind. I guess if you think about it there is a prayer tower in Tulsa, so if you were going past the prayer tower and through the arch of Missouri, you could still be headed for Kansas. I can't come up with much for cane, dive, dear, no or yogurt, with either of these states, nor really with Arizona or Nevada either. At this point I will have to wait for more clues--but it's getting even more interesting as we move along. Sorry for the long post--it just got me wound up. Ken from Kansas

Posted by Ken – February 27, 2008 1:17 AM

I think you can still make a case for Hawaii, with "palm", "sea", and "cane" (as in sugar cane) on the scrabble board.......we'll see!!

Posted by Doug – February 27, 2008 2:08 AM

We are going to Kansas. Somewhere we've never been, in the Mountain Zone, with Beef, sunflowers, silver. wool, prayer. Yep, we are going to Kansas. Lead on....

Posted by Cheryl Hall – February 27, 2008 2:57 AM

All very good guesses. Still too early to narrow it down. Scrabble board also has mountain zone, arch. Windy (city) Chicago? Could also be Golden, CO. But my guess in St. Louis.

Kansas City. Look at the clues on the Scrabble board!

KANSAS, I believe the next HGTV dream home will be in KANSAS, especially after reviewing some of the clues, in particular the scrabble board (I LOVE SCRABBLE!!!) "sunflower (Kansas state flower), mountain (Kansas has some of the highest mountains in the U.S.A.), and wheat... etc...

Posted by Janelle – February 27, 2008 5:26 AM

I think Kansas, the Sunflower State, largest grower of wheat in the U.S., largest mountain is Sunflower Mountain, produces a large portion of the beef we eat (at our bbq), allows gambling and has casinos, and is known for its rolling plains that are windy (also for its tornados-very windy). That cover a pretty good portion of the scrabble clues.

Posted by Anne Kreamer – February 27, 2008 5:39 AM

The only thing throwing me off is the "mountain zone" since Arizona deals with mountain time zone, but for the most part I think it is Silver Lake, Kansas. (I love this! It's so fun!! Although a bit masochistic to continue coming to this site every day and drooling over my dream home, and yet I know this and continue visiting with a great big smile... I'm sure others feel the same. :p I can look at this home for hours, Does any1 else seem to find new things every time you go through the home "tour." Ah, sweet serenity... (sigh) truly sweet haven.

Posted by Janelle – February 27, 2008 5:44 AM

Reno, NV... Or the surrounding areas.

Posted by Ldhunter – February 27, 2008 6:09 AM

I think it will be Salt Lake City, or somewhere else in Utah. Hmmm?!!??!

Posted by Angela – February 27, 2008 6:49 AM

I'm new at this but here goes...I think New Mexico will be the next host beacuse: it has never hosted a home, the globe was centrally located on the southwestern United States, and most of the clues on the scrabble board could be related to somthing in New Mexico. For instance...the Mountain Time zone, the USS New Mexico, prayer flags, organic beef, wind farms, the Wool Festival in Taos, the palms of Las Cruces, wheat is a New Mexican crop and New Mexico even has a Bar B-Q Association!

Posted by Carin – February 27, 2008 6:51 AM

Am thinking Baja California.

Posted by Katie – February 27, 2008 7:30 AM

I think this latest clue is leading us to the Mountain Time zone. These are the states or partial states that fall into this zone:
Arizona
New Mexico
Utah
Colorado
Montana
Idaho
Eastern Oregon
North Dakota
South Dakota
Nebraska
Kansas
Nevada
Oklahoma

Posted by oceangirl – February 27, 2008 7:37 AM

I think the location is in Montana, because they have casinos, wheat, silver, wind, and beef. Not sure what prayer and music has to do with that state, though. My next guess would be Utah except I don't think they have casinos.

Posted by Cori Niehoff – February 27, 2008 7:55 AM

I think I may have it. Golden ticket, words from scrabble, the icon from the globe picture showing up on the cabin house from Colorado. I'm thinking Death Valley, California. It's both coastal and has mountains, it's in the golden state, sliver mines. Just a guess.

Posted by John Lee – February 27, 2008 8:12 AM

mountain, windy, casino,

Cn we say Reno?

Posted by stevie e – February 27, 2008 8:14 AM

I thinks it's Las Vegas, NV

Posted by Shania Boyce – February 27, 2008 8:14 AM

Utah is the next location. Somewhere near Salt Lake City, probably to the west, near the Great Salt Lake. Scrabble clues: MOUNTAIN ZONE; ARCHes national park; 3 CASINOs in UT; Dannon YOGURT is in a SLC, UT suburb; MUSIC from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir who enjoy PRAYER; SEA base in Grantsville, UT is an excellent place to DIVE in the GSL; Utah is also home to SILVER mines in CANE springs, sheep who produce WOOL, BEEF raising, WHEAT fields, & PALM trees. The clincher is the word tray on the left which reads "ITS LDS."

Posted by Jeff Edwards – February 27, 2008 8:29 AM

Las Vegas Baby!!!

Posted by amber – February 27, 2008 8:32 AM

I now think it is Moab, Utah. Words from scrabble changed my mind.

Posted by John Lee – February 27, 2008 8:34 AM

Me again. Last time until the next clue. It has to be Salt Lake City, Utah. That would make it coastal because of the lake, mountains, prayer, beef, etc.

Posted by John Lee – February 27, 2008 8:42 AM

some where in the mountains where sunflowers grow and some type of water!!!??

Posted by Anonymous – February 27, 2008 8:45 AM

Sounds like Nevada to me!

Posted by Evelyn P Bryant – February 27, 2008 8:51 AM

Clue # 3 "Torch" on the Statue of Liberty!
I still say, "The next dream home is...New York City!"

Posted by The Beez – February 27, 2008 9:26 AM

Posted by Lynda – February 27, 2008 9:30 AM

I Think Nev. for sure gold rush, casino, mtn.

Posted by Ed – February 27, 2008 9:31 AM

I think it is New Mexico. Maybe near Gallup. The clues include Zuni, Arch, Mountain, Silver, Wool, Casino, Sunflower, Prayer, Dive, BBQ, Windy, Music, Beef, Sea, Knot, Ox grief. All of these apply to New Mexico.
Lots of casinos and a game called dive poker. Zuni Indians and Zuni Mountain.
Silver, wool, windy all apply as well.
New Mexico has a native sunflower.
La Ventana Natural Arch.

Posted by Nancy – February 27, 2008 9:45 AM

I think it will be in West Virginia, because on the scrabble board it said mountain and West Virginia is the mountain state and it said casino and we have been having some problems with our casinos here, and it said windy it is always windy outside here plus no one would think it would be here.:)

Posted by Crystal – February 27, 2008 9:46 AM

The silver piece on the table- Could it be Tumbleweed. Pointing to the West Coast...

Posted by Jodi – February 27, 2008 9:52 AM

I think the next dream home will be in Reno, Nevada.

Posted by shanna kenney – February 27, 2008 9:55 AM

Amen, Katydid!

Posted by C – February 27, 2008 9:57 AM

I believe it is Salt Lake City or Provo, Utah. It is in the mountain zone, it is a place of prayer and, of course, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for music. I was thrown by the clue "sea" though. There are mountains for sheep (wool)and wildflowers...sunflowers. I'll keep thinking...and guessing.

Posted by Jan – February 27, 2008 9:57 AM

I think Nevada will be the spot.

Posted by Sharon – February 27, 2008 9:59 AM

st. louis?

Posted by Sharon – February 27, 2008 10:01 AM

How about Sadona, AZ?

Posted by Toni – February 27, 2008 10:11 AM

I think it is Hawaii as the scrabble board mentions Cane. Sugar Cane comes from Hawaii and all the shells and coral in the pictures. It is fun to dream..

Posted by Leslie Jo – February 27, 2008 10:11 AM

My guess is Missouri. Home of the Arch, our Gateway to the Midwest.

Posted by Rena – February 27, 2008 10:14 AM

Definitely NEVADA!

Posted by Rhonda – February 27, 2008 10:18 AM

Definitely New Mexico. Probably Albuquerque/Santa Fe area. NM has sunflowers, wheat, silver, beef, cane cactus, ancient sea beds, palm trees, etc. Has to be near a large city to get to/from.

Posted by marjie – February 27, 2008 10:31 AM

I think it might be in Rhode Island.

Posted by Patricia – February 27, 2008 10:35 AM

"We welcome you to Globe-Miami, Arizona, a small mining community just east of Phoenix and north of Tucson. Mining began over 100 years ago when silver was first mined in the area.

A huge ball of silver with many veins was dug up ? this ball resembled a globe, and that?s how Globe got it?s name. Globe was founded in 1876 and incorporated in 1907, and Miami in 1918. Globe is the seat of Gila County."

from:
http://www.lasr.net/pages/city.php?Globe&Arizona&City_ID=AZ0204005&VA=Y

And it's in the Mountain Time Zone- other states include Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska (some), New Mexico, Oregon (some), South Dakota (W), Texas (some), Utah, Wyoming

That's my guess

Posted by Liz – February 27, 2008 10:38 AM

I change my guess that I made yesterday from Alaska or the North Pole to HAWAII. :-)

Posted by Ann simpson – February 27, 2008 10:45 AM

There's only one place that comes close and that is Colorado..........

Posted by Wayne Hargadon – February 27, 2008 10:46 AM

Alaska is not in Mountain time zone - neither is Hawaii. I have it narrowed down to Silver City, New Mexico!!! YEAH....

Posted by Charlotte – February 27, 2008 11:01 AM

ITS GOT TO BE IN CHICAGO,BUT THEY SHOULD COME TO LOUISIANA

Posted by me – February 27, 2008 11:04 AM

I got it, folks. It's Kansas. Am I the first one?

Posted by Jon – February 27, 2008 11:07 AM

Kansas is the SUNFLOWER State....so I am thinking we are going to Kansas

Posted by nan – February 27, 2008 11:16 AM

I think its Nevada due to the clues of silver and mountains on the scrabble board. There are more mountains near Reno and Lake Tahoe area.

Posted by Gayle – February 27, 2008 11:16 AM

I agree with all those who say KANSAS!! Scrabble board points that way. Wierd, out-there choice, but I'm sure it will be equally as beautiful as all the others!

Posted by catt – February 27, 2008 11:19 AM

I think it is Arizona.

Posted by Vicki – February 27, 2008 11:36 AM

I think we could still be looking at the Black Hills area, maybe South Dakota or Montana.

Posted by Pret – February 27, 2008 11:41 AM

Oxnard,Cali or possibly Ventura. How's that?

Posted by Dayna – February 27, 2008 11:45 AM

My guess would be Kansas which is the Sunflower state. It is in the middle of the US, between the Atlantic & Pacific Oceans. Wheat, beef, and sheep are some of the states main commodities. Stretching the imagination the western part of the state with 4,000+ altitude could be considered "mountains" and part of the climate in the state is considered "subtropical". Tennessee, however does have mountains and first "domesticated" the sunflower.
Thanks HGTV for offering us this fun challenge for 2009 even before the 2008 winner is named.

Posted by Patti Ann – February 27, 2008 11:52 AM

It has to be KANSAS. Pawnee Rock, Wichita,
Kansas City or Topeka

Posted by Gloria – February 27, 2008 11:53 AM

I believe it is Kansas. State Flower: Sunflower.
Ranks 1st in # of commercial cattle. 90% of the land is devoted to agriculture principal crop is wheat with approx. 10 million bushels of wheat harvested each year. It was also the bed of a huge inland sea. Historically, significant fossils have been unearthed the most significant is "fish within a fish fossil. There is two time zones Mountain and Central. Four of the western counties observe Mtn time. The State Name was from the Sioux Indian which means "South Wind
People". I just have to figure out just where in Kansas the Dream Home is going to be built.

Posted by Charlene – February 27, 2008 11:55 AM

Los Cabos, Mexico

Posted by Karl Johnson – February 27, 2008 12:22 PM

Definitly Chicago

Posted by Adrian – February 27, 2008 12:26 PM

Arizona, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico or Utah. Do the other words, such as sunflower, windy, casino, wool, ox, have anything to do with the location? I know it cannot be Colorado, Wyoming, Oregon or Texas since you've been there already.

Posted by Christina Wall – February 27, 2008 12:39 PM

Central Kansas

Posted by Nohemy – February 27, 2008 12:39 PM

This is amazing! I just don't' know! I am at a loss right now...so many places seem to fit! Will just have to continue to watch for more clues!

Posted by Cari – February 27, 2008 12:40 PM

I figured it out! Clue two mentions the golden ticket. And in clue three, it's not about the words, it's about the letters. If you unscramble the letters that join two words, you can spell out San Francisco. No dream house has been built in California and San Francisco is home to the Golden Gate bridge.

Posted by Megan – February 27, 2008 12:54 PM

I think it is going to be some where near columbia, missouri

Posted by Jen M – February 27, 2008 1:03 PM

It's going to be in Nevada.

Posted by Mary Owens – February 27, 2008 1:03 PM

I thought it might have been missouri but now I think its Utah.

Posted by Jen M – February 27, 2008 1:12 PM

Seattle

Posted by Yoshimi – February 27, 2008 1:14 PM

It has to be GLOBE, Arizona. It is located in the Mountain Zone in the winter, and they mined for silver (which was another word on the scrabble board).

Posted by Janice – February 27, 2008 1:20 PM

It's going to be in California... I dont know where, but it will be in California. I hope its in Napa (on a vineyard):)

Posted by Lindsey – February 27, 2008 1:26 PM

Most clues sound like Kansas to me. It is the Sunflower state, windy, wheat, beef, music, etc.

Posted by Donna – February 27, 2008 1:30 PM

I change my mind...I had narrowed it down to Arizona ,Idaho ,Montana , or Utah. It's Utah.

Posted by Vicki – February 27, 2008 1:42 PM

New Orleans, LA

Posted by Mark Aylor – February 27, 2008 1:43 PM

I thought Hawaii w/ the foyer clues....now I am clueless w/ the Scrabble board. I love Scrabble too! Prayer,windy,sunflower....all I know is I'm going to love it as usual. With HGTV at the helm, it is going to be one grand home....for our retirement!

Posted by heidi reyburn – February 27, 2008 1:43 PM

You are going somewhere in the carribean that would be great!!!

Posted by movita – February 27, 2008 1:46 PM

O.K. now I'm going to have to go with St. Louis. I had thought about it after the second clue made me think of the Olympics since the five round shells looked like the Olympic symbol. I was leaning toward LA since it has hosted the summer games and there were lots of references to the beach in the previous pictures. But now with the scrabble board which references wheat and beef. Missouri is a huge farming state and livestock producer. The board also references the word arch which is obvious for St. Louis. The board also says music. Hello, Ozark Mountains and Branson. It also says sunflower. The sunflower state borders Missouri. So I think the St. Louis is a safe bet.

Posted by Christie – February 27, 2008 1:50 PM

Wow! after reading a comment by Nancy, I now am convinced it is New Mexico!!!

Posted by Janice – February 27, 2008 1:59 PM

sunflower is the state flower of kansas. part of kansas is mountain time zone.

Posted by jessica – February 27, 2008 2:03 PM

Not enought hours in a day to search for all these clues! I even went so far as to lay out our Scrabble board according to the one in Clue #3. That just goes to show how habit forming this "clue digging" can be!
For today,I have a few guesses;
Taos, NM
Las Crusces, NM
Corona, NM
Espanola, NM
Belen, NM
Abo, NM
Blue Hole, NM
Abiquiu, NM
Santa Rosa, NM.
That's just a few of the places I've been to today. Each has more than one of the possible clues associated with it. One thing about this, I find myself learning more (now that I'm in my fifties) about America, than I ever did in school! My teachers wood be so proud! Ha! Ha!

Posted by VW – February 27, 2008 2:25 PM

Auntie Em! Kansas is the Sunflower State. Mountain zone threw me off until I looked closer. There are three counties in Kansas in the Mountain zone.

Posted by cgjmom – February 27, 2008 2:26 PM

Laughlin,Nevada

on the colorado river where CA,NV,AZ meet. freshwater diving, casinos, palms, siver mines, farming along the river on local native american reservation

Something gives me a feel for the next sight as being in NEW ORLEANS. Look of gas lamp, french doors, fish,BAY! It's all there. See ya'll in the BIG EASY for the next Dream Home.

Posted by Vicki – February 27, 2008 2:43 PM

This is fun. I am going to have to change my original guess from Oakland, CA to Reno, NV (the biggest little city in the world). Can't wait for the next clue.

don't know if this will help, but on the subject of yogurt...Dannon's u.s. headquarters seem to be in White Plains,NY...Yoplait's are in Minneapolis...there is Stonyfield in New Hampshire...Willow Glen Frozen Yogurt in San Jose,CA and Wallaby Yogurt in CA also...Breyer's seems to be in Green Bay,WI but the parent Co. Kraft is in Chicago. There is a Breyers plant in Henderson,NV though...my head is spinning! Anyone wanna research Ada? LOL

does it say its lds or does it say its ada? on left word tray...comments anyone?

Posted by karen – February 27, 2008 2:57 PM

I think it is going to be in Lousiana. The clues on the scrabble board say Knot, Mountain, Time, so I took that to mean "NOT Mountain Time"...for those who are a little slower....the time zone is not mountain time. CASINO=Louisiana; GRIEF=Louisiana; MUSIC=Louisiana; CANE=Louisiana; SEA=Louisiana; PRAYER=Louisiana;

Posted by Alison – February 27, 2008 2:59 PM

I think it will be Alazka.....

Posted by liliana – February 27, 2008 3:07 PM

Oh, I'm so confussed now, the scrabble board has clues to a few differant places. Help

Posted by Vickie – February 27, 2008 3:09 PM

I think it will be either IL, near Lake Michigan, or Missouri or Kansas, or Nevada near Lake Mead or Tahoe. This, of course, takes into consideration a few of the scrabble board clues applied to each state, but not all to one of them. And some words not to any one of them! Now for our months of torture waiting to find out! Good clean fun!

Posted by Connie – February 27, 2008 3:11 PM

It is definitely Arizona or New Mexico, but I'm leaning in the neighborhood of Globe, AZ. Remember Laurel? I agree with her. LOL

Posted by Robin – February 27, 2008 3:23 PM

I'm hung up on yogurt what does it mean?

Posted by Joe – February 27, 2008 3:34 PM

I believe it is the Sedona Arizona area

Posted by Linda – February 27, 2008 3:42 PM

I think it'll be Hawaii.
Second opinion: an international dream home in Mexico.

Posted by Clara – February 27, 2008 3:46 PM

I'm guessing southwestern North Dakota. It is the largest producer of sunflower seeds and durum wheat in the U.S. It also has the largest number of religious people and the most churches of any state in the U.S.

Posted by Teresa – February 27, 2008 4:03 PM

I think Lake Tahoe

Posted by willa – February 27, 2008 4:12 PM

Has to be coastal. The slide show had many pictures of just coral!

Posted by Susan – February 27, 2008 4:24 PM

How could anyone suggest Globe, Az?? Yuck! What an incredible waste of a dream home that would be...

Posted by Tam – February 27, 2008 4:31 PM

I don't care where the next dream home will be, I'll take it......As long as the dream isn't a nightmare ..........

Posted by Lorna Cunningham – February 27, 2008 4:42 PM

Jeff Edwards almost had me agreeing with the Utah theory--- then I looked back at the scrabble board. The tray on the left spells "its ada" (rather than "LDS" latter day saints)! Here is one more clue to support the Arizona theory--- on the righthand tray is the word "grief". Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, the woman who wrote the premier book on the 5 stages of grief, died in SCOTTSDALE ARIZONA. I rest my case. (until the next clue, that is....)

Posted by Ali – February 27, 2008 4:45 PM

My guess is the state of Minnesota I believe that is where Scrabble was born

Posted by Matt – February 27, 2008 4:57 PM

My guess at first was California, but after some research I really really think California now and I will go as far to guess San Diego, California. Here is what I found:
*Three Arch Bay (less than an hour from San Diego)
*There are at least 123 casinos in California
*The California Yogurt Company (In San Diego)
*West Coast Believers Convention and Spirit West Coast Christian Music Festival (held in California)
*WWW.camzone.com has webcam coverage of San Diego Zoo, Sea World, county beaches and airports.
*The “California Sunflower” also the “San Diego Sunflower”
*About 11 percent of the entire world's wind-generated electricity is found in California.
*Palm City, San Diego, California
*Fishing knots “The San Diego Knot” aka “Reverse Clinch Knot”
*Cane’s Bar and Grill (voted one of the best live music venue’s in town) (in San Diego)
*Artist: Wheat/ Song: San Diego/ Album: Hope And Adams
*The U.S.D.A. on Sunday Feb 17th ordered the recall of 143 million pounds of beef from a Southern California slaughterhouse. This was the largest in US history.
*Silver Strand State Beach, San Diego, CA
*SEA WORD in San Diego CA
*Six Flags Magic Mountain is in California however in San Diego: Black Mountain Ranch Community, Carmel Mountain Ranch Community, Cowles Mountain, The San Diego Mountains and San Diego North Mountain Communities.
*San Diego has numerous options as far as entertainment when in comes to dive adventures and expeditions: scuba diving, boat diving, shark diving etc....
*The Dear & Departed performed @ SOMA in San Diego on Jan. 18th 2008.

Posted by Angie – February 27, 2008 5:02 PM

I'm sticking with Arizona. It does have mountains, silver, a monsoon season (windy), many famous musicians. Also corresponds with clue #2's reference to golden ticket. In the 1971 version of Willy Wonka, Mike Tevee was from AZ.

Posted by Caroline – February 27, 2008 5:03 PM

The globe tells it all. Look where the image is centered, and then look at the bottom right corner of the Scrabble board.

It is the Esperanza Resort at Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, by the sea!

Posted by Doug Johnson – February 27, 2008 5:09 PM

The answer is Missouri.

Arch-St Louis
Sunflower - Kansas (City) state flower
Wool - Missouri Natural Colored Wool Growers Association
Beef - Missouri
Music - Branson
Casino - Missouri has several
Prayer - International House of Prayer (Kansas City)
Sea - USS Missouri
Silver - Missiouri silver mines
Windy - Wind farms in Missouri
Mountains - Ozark mountains
BBQ - Kansas City (BBQ capital of the world)

Posted by Anonymous – February 27, 2008 5:25 PM

It is going to be in Kansas, no doubt!

Posted by Starla – February 27, 2008 5:31 PM

Ok...how quickly we forget that last year they used the scrabble board and how many people researched where Scrabble was made and the clues on the board had nothing to do with the next dream home. Remember how the board said "Kansas" last year? I'm not falling for this one again. I don't know if we can trust any of the words on the board, but I'm thinking (lol) the one clue that jumps out is Mountain & Zone, which would narrow it down to 9 states left in MST that haven't had a DH. And that doesn't include NV as someone wrote above. I'm still praying it could be HI though. And VJ...the 1st McDonalds was in California. I always enjoy all the guesses for next years DH and love playing along. Have fun everyone!!!

Posted by Becky from Napa Valley – February 27, 2008 5:37 PM

I believe the next Dream Home will be in Utah. Arches National Park, prayers, Mountain Time, the Dead Sea, Sunflower Hill..... What do you think?

Posted by Renee D – February 27, 2008 5:40 PM

It could be Louisiana, Mississippi, or even alabama (hurricane disasters ) if you look at all the words grief, prayer, dear, windy, sea, knot, casino, silver, music, bbq, beef, or possibly memphis tn (grief, prayer, dear, windy, music bbq, beef- tornado devestations last few months)
then you look at knot mountain zone, makes you think it's a play on the word not "knot" mountain time.
The words moutain, arch, sea, and wool made me think utah, az, montana~ but they are in the mt time zone. (it's ada, that's a computer language)- That I don't understand) palm, dive, California---sunflower, wheat, yogurt make me think of the plains Like kansas (it's partially mt time zone) or oklahoma... ox & cane I don't get unless cane is a play on hurricane...
fcole maybe a few more eliminations, please to get us moving toward the right track.

Posted by Carrie MIracle – February 27, 2008 5:47 PM

I think it is Branson, MO. They have gospel music, country music, gambling, a city, mountains, etc..

I, also believe it to be Missouri. The Ozarks are
beautiful in any season. A building site there
would breath taking.

Some of you are asking what ADA means. It is a city in Oklahoma not far from the Texas line. Evangelist Oral Roberts was born in Ada. Hope this helps.

Posted by Jan – February 27, 2008 6:22 PM

could it be Beach, North Dakota which is located in Golden Valley County?

Posted by Teresa – February 27, 2008 6:28 PM

Montana's motto is Oro y plata (Gold and Silver). Gibson's builds guitars in Bozeman, Montana. Mountain time zone, etc. Love to have the next DH in Montana. But Kansas, Arizona, Utah, Nevada are strong contenders!! Enjoy reading everyone's thoughts.

Posted by LuckyWun – February 27, 2008 6:33 PM

I think it's in Utah... TCBY's headquarters is in Cottonwood Heights, in Salt Lake County.

Posted by Julie – February 27, 2008 6:37 PM

My early guess would be near Table Rock Lake, Missouri. The city of Branson and the village of Silver Dollar are right off this lake. There are numerous planned communities. The Arch is clue.

Posted by George – February 27, 2008 6:37 PM

I think it's Boulder City, Nevada.

Posted by Leah – February 27, 2008 6:41 PM

Nevada has mountains, casinos. Ox-Bow Incident took place in Nevada, involved hangings ("knot"). Reno has arch. Ok, now back to Montana. Prehistoric sea monster at Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman.

Posted by LuckyWun – February 27, 2008 6:55 PM

Its gotta be Utah. But where ever it is... hopefully it a practical location for extended family to travel too, has the four seasons, especially SNOW, be a place you'd give up your current life to move too, and beable to find a job to pay for the expenses and upkeep of the "dream house" so it doesn't become a "nightmare."

Its Las Vegas! Las Vegas is known as the Silver State and it has plenty of casinos. Also, contrary to popular belief, Las Vegas is one of the windiest cities in the U.S. Even more so than Chicago, even though Chicago is known as the windy city. I think it's Las Vegas.

So many good guesses from so many bloggers, but right now I have to guess UTAH. Many of the clues fit. JOHN LEE: It's not easy to make me laugh out loud when I'm alone and reading the posts but you did it with "Death Valley".

This is fun, can't wait for Friday's clue.
Love to all Dreaners,

The words on the scrabble board are:
Zone, Mountain (highest point in Kanssas is Mt. Sunflower), Knot, Arch, BBQ, Beef (cattle is one of Kansas main agricultural industries), Sunflower (state flower of Kansas), Casino, Wool (used to make apparel is also a major industry in Kansas), Windy, Yogurt, Prayer, Dear, At, Silver (mining is yet another large industry in Kansas), Dive, Wheat (also grown in Kansas) , Palm, Music (state song is “Home on the Range”, Sea, and Cane

Just a guess though of course

I don't care where you build ..Just make it an all green home..No outside power coming in. Have it set up to charge the electric company for power in reverse..A complete self efficient home..What a great show place for America..
Just giter done!!!!!!!

WINDY HILL BEACH by Mytle Beach in SOUTH CAROLINA has a casino near by.All the coral ornaments, sandles and beach bag,sea erchints on the table, indicate by the ocean. The tree that is outside the window in the foyer looks to be a Palmetto tree that is the state tree of SC.SC is known for its Blue Ridge Mountains,Dairy products,Beef,Tobacco(leaf)Wheat,Forest products,Cotton not(wool)The state flower is the Carolina Jasmine. It looks very similar to the one in the planter except for the fact that i've only seen it in pictures.
