I hope reading the title of this blog conjured images of a singing clock and candlestick and perhaps, the most elaborate animated dinner ever. (If it didn’t, you really need to watch Disney’s Beauty and the Beast again.)
Now, on to design. I’m a big fan of the guest room; it’s the one place where you get to create your own bed-and-breakfast or chic hotel atmosphere. Plus, don’t you love visiting someone who has truly decked out their guest bedroom. Here are a few of my favorite guest rooms on HGTV.com.

Check out our guide for welcoming guests and our 5 simple, stylish party ideas for food recipes and more.
Final tips for the ultimate guest room:
Keep an alarm clock in the room, in case they have to catch an early flight, but make sure it doesn’t tick or have really bright digital numbers (so annoying).
If you have the room, have nightstands and lamps on both sides of the bed, so guests have an easy place to read before going to bed.
Books and magazines are good to have for late-night reading. If you know their taste, pick up their favorite tabloid or design magazine.
Have extra toiletries in the guest bathroom or if sharing a hall bathroom, put them in a pretty basket on the dresser. You never know what someone may forget.
Now, all you have to do is invite someone to stay. Happy visiting!

I love making my guest feel comfortable! If you travel and collect shampoo, conditioner and lotions and potions from hotels, those are great little guest bathroom creature comforts. Also, make sure you have an extra toothbrush and toothpaste for your guests.

I really love the first one the best. Another tip for guest room is to have extra pillows and blankets in a nearby closet, just in case.

When my husband and I went to visit his sister and her family, she went all out to make us feel welcome in our "guest suite". It was a small bedroom but she had added a family photo of us (and our two boys) on the bedside table, along with a small photo album for us to enjoy from family get-togethers over the years. That was a tip I took from her, and now when we have guests coming in I make sure they are welcomed in the same manner...it made me feel welcome, and added that "at home" touch.

Love this room! I also did a B&W theme in my guest room. I splashed a little purple here and there. I love the comforter. The orange gives the room more pop!

I absolutely LOVE the brown and blue room! Hands down it is the best of the three listed here. The colors of the bedding are so warm and inviting yet romantic with a pop of excitement with the great art on the walls. This room is so well put together!! The only changes I would make is more comfortable chairs for two in the corner and perhaps beige on the walls.
I will be doing over the guest room in my home. I think this is the room I have in mind for the make over. I love the bedding!!!
I recently had guests over for a few days. I did think ahead with a basket with body wash, lotions, soaps, toothbrushes, pens, pencils, magazines. I knew she loved word search books and him sports so I also had them on the night stands. As well as a set of towels and wash cloths rolled up in a fun basket for them to use. They commented on how great it was to know what towels were for their personal use and how perfect it was to have everything they had forgotten already in the room.
I have a makeup area for ladies to get ready with fresh natural lighting,a hair dryer, nail care set, tissues, lotions, a small trash can near, too.
Everything worked out great to make their visit better. Because they had been in such a rush to leave after working all day they had left many personal items at home.
We had a great weekend and more time to spend having fun because we were not shopping for the little things they had forgotten at home.

Whenever I have overnight guests I like to make them feel like they are in a spa or B&B so, I always leave a single rose in a vase on the bedside table along with a basket full of toiletries such as disposable razors, small bars of soap, shower gel, hand lotion and a few mints! I like to buy the decorative paper napkins that are guest towels. They come in all colors and designs and add a nice touch.
Then, on the bedside table is a musical cd that is calming and relaxing like the sounds of the ocean. I usually have it playing on a low volume so, when our guests arrive. The bed is furnished with lots of pillows and a shawl placed at the bottom of the footboard for our guests to turn in for a very restful night.

These are gorgeous rooms!! I hope that some day my bedroom will actually look as nice as these do. Since we have been married (21 yrs)I have not decorated our master bedroom ever. We moved alot, as apartment duelers. We are now in our first home (7 yrs), and our m.bedroom is still the only room in our house that has white walls, besides the laundry room. Sad huh!! We don't even have a guest room. I guess the loft could be one some day

Paint is done in a beautiful Honey Sand color. Old carpet is up revealing amazing wood floors. Baseboard and door frame are white. Closet is empty too. Do we go with sofa sleeper (full size only fits in this room) and turn half the closet into storage/mini desk/guest hangables? Or do we go all out with a full size bed? Thinking sofa sleeper so we can have a small table and chair in there too to make it our "quiet room" when guests aren't using it. What do you all think?

Hi,
I'm a big fan of Vern Yip and Candice Olsen's design shows. I watch them all the time. I've lived in my home for 10 yrs and hadn't touched my house, so after watching all these shows I got inspired to hire a designer. Unfortunately, it wasn't a good experience. Every item I ordered has had problems with it, plus a small one room design took over 1 year to complete. First really bad thing, was designer never asked me about my budget. She came to my home, so I didn't think I needed to tell her $25000 for one room's furniture was beyond my means, but I did. My whole house was $109K. Next, the decorator lived off of my furniture deposit for 5 months, instead of ordering sofa, 2 chairs, ottoman, and entertainmnet center. I called several times during 5 months to get status of my furniture and she always said it was coming, but just needed a little more time. Finally, I gave her an ultimatum to produce my furniture or return my $5300 deposit. At that point, she ordered the sofa, but nothing else. Even then, it took another 8 weeks to get sofa. Finally, she said she hadn't ordered the other furniture. I know I'm crazy, but I had invested so much time and money into this project, I gave her the remaining money to order the rest of the furniture. I finally got furniture, but sofa arrived and it was suppose to have 2 reclining seats, it had one. She never said anything until I asked about it. She said drawing looked like it had 2, but it really didn't. Isn't that something she should know! Then my entertainment center had a crack in the wood and it had to be replaced by manufacturer. One of the chairs was suppose to be recliner, it wasn't and I didn't accept it. The other chair arrived and ottoman has few spots on fabric. This woman has taken ALL the fun/excitement out of my new stuff. I am just over it! Even a mirror that was ordered has a streak/line down the mirror and it also had some sort of adhesive stuck to mirror that wouldn't come off easily. Everything has been a struggle and a really poor experience. I should've known up front, it wasn't going to be good, because I paid her $300 at our first meeting and she said if I ordered from her, that cost would be subtracted from the order. Later, she said that she never said that. I'm 52 years old, single, NOT RICH, and was splurging with a decorator. I'm ignorant of what you should get in writing from decorator, but I've learned a hard lesson. I still love Vern and Candice, but I don't think I'll ever use another decorator ever again.

Your guest rooms are so inviting. I especially like the blue and chocolate one. It really shows how important lighting is in creating a welcoming and soothing environment. Picking a warm neutral for the walls is always a great way to go - homey but not intrusive. My mother in law always has a few current issues of magazines in the room when we visit. It's a nice touch.

A good guest room makes the guests feel welcome and special. At the same time it can be your own hideout when you feel like a bit of luxury in your own time.

I had once done a guest bedroom in full green which included potted plants and gave an amzaon feel. It was quite an elaborate room. Even the bathroom was tiled light green.

I had been watching HGTV shows for years and desperately want to have HGTV help me and my husband in decorating/remodeling our space. However, I have looked at the TV programs that you listed which could do this but I have yeat to find one that is willing to go to the southwest ( I live in Albuquerque, NM). Most of the areas that you recruit from are the east coast and Los Angeles? Why?

My husband built our corner fireplace 35 years ago. it is still beautiful, but I'd like to make it lighter. It has tones of brown/gray/beige in the stone and the grout is a dark brown. We have lightened up the hearth and the unit itself, but don't know if we can do anything to the dark grout.
I don't want to completely do something over it, but I do want it lighter. Any Idea's? Dianna

First bedroom elegant.Everything had its place and colours serene and restful.Second too many photos on two walls.I would have used the two large on each wall. Not crazy about grey but they go with rest of room.Third bedroom:hate dark olive walls and black and white bedding.Furniture very dark.I would have put mint paint, oak dresser and mint sheet set and blankets.
