Beach-Inspired Crafts

Posted by camille – May 22, 2008 1:57 PM

Summer is fast approaching, which always puts me in the mood for a beach trip. Ah...the sun, the sand, the surf — I LOVE the beach. Apparently, so do a lot of the crafters who've posted their projects to Share My Craft. Try a few of these projects yourself to get in a proper beachy spirit.

I love this Sea Glass Bracelet created by DeezieSunshine. She lives by the coast and finds these beautiful pieces of sea-polished glass on beach walks — lucky girl! She did a great job designing this playful bracelet, the beach glass and glass beads really capture the colors of the ocean.

DeezieSunshine also created this glowing Jingle Shell Votive. I've often found these jingle shells (also known as capiz shells) while beachcombing and wondered what I could do with them. Now that I see how beautifully they diffuse light, I'm picturing them covering pendant lamps or hardback lampshades.

These Sea Glass Luminaries created by MosaicMichelle would be a great project for using up sea glass or shells you've gathered on vacations. No worries if you can't gather together enough true sea glass for this project; the storebought tumbled-glass type works just fine.

Loved the idea of using shells and sea glass. We don't seem to have much glass on this coast. The shells I collected last year were etched with shapes resembling letters. I plan to do something with the shells spelling out our names.

Totally wonderful. The bracelet is absolutely gorgeous.Of course now that I am older the beaches aren't near me,but for those close to the ocean go for it.....

The above labeled jingle shells occur on the outside of oysters. The jingle shell is incorrectly labeled a capiz shell. This is wrong. Capiz shells are PLACUNA PLACENTA found in the shallow, coastal water of the Philippines. Have been a shell collector for many years and truly miss now due to health reasons. The objects above are absolutely beatiful. Keep looking for the unique and the unusual .
