Cool Guy Father's Day Card

I always find it a challenge to create a card for my husband. He just doesn’t seem to get as giddy about flowers, ribbon and glitter as I do — so for his Father’s Day card, I spared him those details and decided to focus on some of his hobbies. He loves to ride his motorcycle, loves to travel and loves a warm beach with palm trees swaying in the breeze. So I combined a few of these elements along with some masculine symbols such as stars and a road sign to create a card just for him.

To recreate Melissa's Cool Guy Father's Day Card, follow the steps below:

Necessary Supplies:
grey cardstock
orange patterned paper
blue patterned paper
palm tree die-cut (or design stamped or drawn onto card stock)
road sign die-cut (or design stamped or drawn onto card stock)
flourish die-cut (or design stamped or drawn onto card stock)
star die-cuts (or design stamped or drawn onto card stock)
chipboard motorcycle
1 blue button
1 green button
2 sugar-coated brads
rub-on or sticker
hemp or twine
pinking shears
sandpaper
sewing machine (optional)

Steps:
1. Cut grey cardstock 8-1/2" x 4-3/4” and fold in half.

2. Cut orange patterned paper slightly smaller than card front, ink edges and adhere to center of card.

3. Cut blue paper slightly smaller than orange paper, trim edges using pinking shears, sand to distress and attach to center of card.

4. Cut a 1-1/4" strip of patterned paper to fit across card diagonally, ink edges and adhere just below center. Stitch around edges if desired.

5. Attach palm tree die-cut using dimensional adhesive. Tip: If you can't find a palm tree or any of the other die cuts, simply stamp or draw that element onto card stock and cut out.

6. Attach blue flourish and road sign to upper area of palm tree die-cut and apply rub-on.

7. Wrap hemp around card twice, thread buttons through hemp and tie in a knot to secure. Thread hemp through chipboard motorcycle and tie to hemp to create a cluster of elements on right side of card.

8. Attach brads through star die-cuts and adhere among the cluster of elements.

I like to give my Dad gifts that will tap into his emotions (even if he doesn't want me to see them). I gave my Dad a Cake and a Prayer for his birthday and his eyes welled up with tears. The cool thing about the gift was that the website had pre-written gift messages. I was surprised at the quality of the gift and the price. It included the gift card, cake (which was so good we all wanted more) and a framed scripture I selected for my Dad. It had his name on it and was signed from me. After a gift like that, I wondered what I would give him for Father's Day, but I just found out, I can order the cake only with another gift card. Check it out at www.cakeandaprayer.com. I think there's a discount code floating around the internet for a discount on Father's Day gifts.

This is a very cute card! My Dad loves to camp, so I'm going to substitute a little RV for the motorcycle. Thanks for the tutorial!
