Answers to Some of Your Questions

Posted by camille – February 13, 2008 2:03 PM

Howdy crafters! Wow! I've received a lot of great questions lately, so I thought that rather than answering each one individually, I'd tackle them all at once.

First, I'm glad that so many of you liked the idea of knitting a square for charity. That post in particular generated a good many questions. Many of you asked how to get started with knitting or crocheting the blocks and others asked where to send them. Instructions for knitting the squares and the address to ship them to can be found on the Warm Up America home page. Of course, if you'd rather knit an entire afghan for a charitable organization in your community and donate it in person, then you can skip the process of sending it in to Warm Up America for them to distribute.

On to the question of HGTV and DIY programming changing air times and not airing new episodes of craft shows. Many of you asked if I had any pull and the answer is, sadly, no, I don't. You're all free to vent your frustration here in my blog and occasionally, folks from various depts. may check in to get a feel for what's on your minds.

Beyond venting to me and each other, you may want to contact our Viewer Services Dept. They act as a liason between our viewers and the HGTV and DIY decision makers. They will ensure that your comments or suggestions are heard by the correct people. You can either contact them via e-mail or phone. Live representatives are available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET at 865-694-7879.

Thanks for commenting, I really enjoy hearing what you guys have to say. Also, a few of you have shared links to some really great craft blogs and sites, please keep it up. There's so many great projects and ideas out there!

Thank you for the information on how to get our comments to HGTV and DIY. On HGTV.com their are only two shows listed under the crafts section and they are all reruns. Even the "new" shows on DIY are portions of old Martha or Today shows edited together to make a "new" show??

I am disappointed that there are not more or new craft shows. In the past I have enjoyed watching them. Some of us are no longer looking for new homes or ways to redecorate the one we have. I enjoy some of the re-runs, but as a long-time viewer, I have seen many of the shows now airing. Surely there must be new things to show us. Thanks.

Hello All, Does anyone know the name of the Chandelier that looks like its made out of a gazillion thin round shells material?. I see them on craft and design shows all the time, but no one says what they are made of. I need some of those shells for another project. What are they? and where can I get them? Thanks, Carole

Hi Carole:
The shell-like material for the light fixture is called "capiz" shells, from the Philippines, I think.

I agree with Norma & Jeanette. We either have Fons & Porter or America Sews Creatively or Simply Quilts. But we don't seem to be able to have more than one kind scheduled per week. There are more & more quilters who need & want more information & ideas.
Thanks, Mary
